  1. New simple snapchat vulnerability. Users can secretely save photos without a pc.
  2.
  3. This new vulnerability was uncovered by NotMalicious on 1/18/2013 and allows a user to save local copies of snapchat photos without notifying the sender.
  4.
  5. To carry out this exploit, the user needs to:
  6. 1. Receive a snapchat from someone else.
  7. 2. Wait until the snapchat message states "Press and hold to view".
  8. 3. Turn device into airplane mode, ensuring no network connectivity (Including WiFi).
  9. 4. Reopen the snapchat application
  10. 5. View the message and take a screenshot.
  11. 6. Log out of the snapchat application. Do not just exit it. Go to snapchat settings and log out.
  12. 7. Turn device network capabilities back on.
  13. 8. Log into snapchat and see that the photo has not been viewed and is still unopened, but you have a local copy now.
  14.
  15. This exploit takes advantage of the fact that snapchat can not send the open signal to the sender when there is no network connectivity. Logging out of snapchat is needed to clear the user cache.
  16.
  17. This vulnerability is shown here for educational purposes and I hope that the snapchat team fixes this issue. It could be resolved by ensuring network connectivity is available when the application is open.
