I really tried

[22:59:21] Being she was still in the process of monitoring moving of her personal belongings from Nostvale, toward New Alteros; the young Avaline figured she could make time to say good bye, in person--- to her family. She'd be busy with being the resident doctor and enchantress of New Alteros's army--- as she had promised her older sister all them years ago. Being Veronica was likely only a few years away form Queenship and all.

Still, Dianthia approached Magnus, seeing the old Marshal was out and about on the balcony, and was quick to give him a hug. "Grandpa!" He was usually very busy with his work; being one of the military leaders of a state edging on war made it... very stressful for the man no doubt. And perhaps seeing his now-teenaged grandchild, starting to bloom into her own person would do his old soul some good.

"I came to uh... Properly say goodbye and stuff. Not sure if you saw my letter. But I'm still moving all my stuff to New Alteros's castle to live with my sister there and help her out." Hopefully Magnus wouldn't get mad at her for just...wanting to help out family. Family who had a lot less family to be around.

"I came in second place in the tournament! So close to winning. Barely lost the last round. But..." Perhaps he wouldn't want to hear about the baby of the family, getting to that age and power that she could fight for herself.

[23:05:20] "Dianthia..." Magnus had heard a lot of her over the past few months. Nothing good either, really. He'd been too busy to monitor himself so... He couldn't help but blame himself for it all. "It's good to see you and it's good to hear that you did well in the tournament. Perhaps I should have joined it, eh? Ran both of the armies at once? I already do most of the legwork around here anyway..."

He gave her a soft, tired smile before leaning on the battlements, looking down at the city below. "You know... I'd be careful if I were you, with all of this 'sister' stuff. You may think you get along fine with them but, I doubt they enjoy your shared connection. Veronica has never been fond of her father... And that's the closest link the pair of you share."

"Tone it back a little, don't assume that you're all fine and dandy as family or anything... You don't owe each other anything after all... But, I have something else I need to talk to you about... About all this trouble you've been causing around the city, yes? You've been... You've been putting the family under stress, both you and your mother."

"So I..." He turns to her fully, a stern look in his eyes. "I want you to apologise."

[23:14:43] "If you're talking about Clio, she doesn't deserve an apology. I was only doing my JOB. I was only protecting my HOME TOWN. But it's clear she doesn't want me here. So I decided to leave. And carve my own path in life." She was firm on that stance, and when Magnus brought up how Zakia--- both her and Veronica's father was not liked by her half-sibling, of course Dianthia had a reply to that.

With a one arm wrapped around her grandfather still, giving affection toward one of her father figures, the girl would speak. "Zakia was never there for me. He was never there for Veronica. But that doesn't mean our Grandpa Onkolithos and our Grandma Astoria don't love us. They do. They try to make up for how bad their son was to their grandkids. They try. And that's what matters. I am lucky at least. I got two awesome grandfathers to make up for one bad, deadbeat dad." She replied, trying to lean up against one of her favorite old men.

"My Mom's my Mom. She loves Nostvale but can be... pragmatic about her approach. And I love it too. But a good reason I decided to go to New Alteros--- is so that when I'm one of it's top Magi. When I'm it's most renown doctor. When I'm loved there... People like Clio will regret scorning me." She was already great, and would only get greater with age. The egotistical young-druidess would speak though again. This time with a blush and a side-glance.

"Plus my boyfriend is from New Alteros anyway..." She had always known her siblings to be full-grown adults besides Veronica. It'd be natural she wanted to grow up quicker and do adultish things like them... like dating.

[23:22:24] "I don't want you to apologise to Clio, I want you to apologise to me. Your actions and the responses your mother had to issue forth to defend you..." He sighed, breaking the hug and turning away, taking a moment to swallow. "They've... They've put... strain on things." He couldn't say it to her, not so directly, he could only hope she picked up on the seriousness in his voice.

"Things are... dangerous here for the family. And, unfortunately it seems to stem from you... I don't know what you did, what you've been doing or what you keep doing but you've managed to earn more than Clio's ire. And so now things seem to be in jeopardy and I am being left out of them for being too biased... Kept away from decisions that affect the people I love."

He turned back around to look at her. "I am not blaming you but... I need to know that you understand your actions have consequences that affect us all. THat the things you choose to do affect everyone, not just yourself, not just Charlie or Clio or Veronica or anyone like that. And I need to know that you aren't just running away from things to escape the problems you have caused."

"It's good that you are seeking something better from yourself, that you are looking for new walks of life within New Alteros. It is a good, safe place and it is indeed woefully understaffed there. But it still has its dangers... Soldiers dying on the streets... I don't want to lose anyone and I need to know that you'll be safe and that you'll be smart about things, okay?"

[23:32:38] When her grandpa asked her to apologize--- it struck a chord with her. Dianthia was a normally very prideful, very egotistical young girl whom--- would never apologize to anyone. Infact, apologizing to family took a lot of power out of her. BUt she heard the seriousness of her Grandfather's voice. And she was getting wiser with her age, starting to learn from her actions more.

"I want to leave--- because I don't -want- to rely on our family anymore. I want to leave, so what happens to me. If it's good, if it's bad. Is because -I- did it. I want to be remmebered not as Marshal Brakkacia's bratty grandchild, or not as Charlie Avaline's baby ... but as Dianthia Avaline. A scientist, a doctor, and a damn great Magi." her reliance on her family si what caused her ego, no doubt. It's what caused her to well... always run to them if anything bad happened.

"I maybe I act out sometimes 'cause... you're so busy. And Grandpa Onko is too. And my dad's not around so... I don't... I dunno and..." Oh god. Here came the teenage moodswings and water-works. "I love you Grandpa. I don't know what people are saying about me. I don't know if people hate me... or already want me dead but... I don't want to see you or Mom sad ever. If I did something stupid and upset you guys I wouldn't ever be able to forgive myself." And so her voice broke into a sob. Genuinely crying as she tried to hug her grandfather.

"I'm... I'm so---... I'm sorry for upsetting you. Making you worry, Grandpa." She was so sincere in that regard. She knew Magnus was strong and able to hold back his emotions well, and whenever he had that grim sensation come from his expression and words, she knew something was bad. "You can tell Clio I'm sorry too but I'm leaving 'cause... I wanna be my own person. And I need a change of scenery. I wanna find out who DIANTHIA really is. And there's a lot more woods out there. ANd you know I love the woods."

"Nothin' bad is going to happen to me if I leave, or if I come back to visit my family and stuff here, right? I promise... I'll be better."

[23:41:10] Magnus gently accepted her, letting his hand rest on her back, gently massaging out the sobs, letting them come as they did. "Dianthia... It is good to know that you understand. That you aren't just a bratty child. But you have to remember this. You have to remember when you were wrong so you can know when you are right."

"Ego is a dangerous thing. To be too full of oneself leads to... complications. You can see Hauk's daughter for that... or you can see Hauk himself in some cases., It leads to brash decisions, emotional outbursts and, well, going against everything you stand for, even accidentally. I've seen too many good people go bad because they thought they were in the right."

"And I don't mean in a fascist way. Just in little ways too. I've seen friendships shatter and families fall apart because they would never listen to one another. And I know that you are not like that. But you can never become that, okay? You're going to be distant in New Alteros, you're going to be on your own in a big place and you'll be wanting to make a name for yourself."

"But do not branch off too far, do not try to be too different from your family. Or you might find yourself changing too much away from the people you love." He hugged her deeply, patting her head softly. "But you are still my little girl and I am sure you will be just fine."

[23:48:51] Hearing her grandfather's kind words was enough for the youngest Avaline to let off some sniffles. Yes, she was going to be far. Yes. She was going to be away from family and yes--- she might stray somewhat from what her family was. But the roots were ingrained. She had no reason to uplift them, with her love for the family she had. "Of course, Grandpa. And if you I don't know if you ever will--- because you're busy a lot. BUt uh... If you ever get the free time, you can come see me, okay?

And of course I won't forget my roots, I learned nature magic because of you. I still remember when you made me the 'chair-pony' when we were making that cake. And I remember when Ella shown me her bubbles. I wonder if her Garuda will be okay to move. She did leave Adaline to me..." She had to take care of that bird. When Ella disappeared, she made sure that Dianthia would be the one to raise the large, smart, mountable avian. "I'm gonna be a great nature magi like you one day. A great scientist like you and mom. I promise. I'll even come back to talk to you sometimes when we're both not busy.

Queen Valeria might give me Lionhold to turn into a school and a druid's camp, too... Luthar will be there with me... that's my boyfriend. And so will Sarah! I got some good friend's grandpa." Ones she probably needed to apologize to as well. For likely being the bratty, unruly child she was.

But now that she was growing into a young lady, now that she had responsibilities--- it was time for her to change. Time for her to begin growing up, and taking full responsbility for herself and her actions.

[23:57:23] "And again I am sure you will do great things once you are out there. Be careful and be safe. And if you do need help, never be afraid to ask. I had a much rougher start in life than you ever did and that just means that I know how to have you avoid all the pitfalls I fell into. After all, grandpa has his secrets..." He smiled down at her before breaking the hug with a high spirited grunt of effort.

"Now then, maybe one day you can show me this boyfriend of yours and we can see how he stacks up... And I've been hearing a lot about Sarah too, about how you kept kidnapping her... It was probably a misunderstanding but still... You shouldn't just pull people from their families no matter how terrible they are. At least not within the cities."

"Out in the wilds you could probably get away with it... But you be careful out there once again, okay? Try not to make too many enemies. But don't let people walk all over you either. Good manners are always the best course. Good manners, a good first impression and then drive the conversations yourself. You'd be surprised at what people will tell you."

He gave her a wry little smile. "After all, using that I've managed to talk down two rebel groups in the past... And I managed to walk right into a third, leaving with my life and having them beg me for my help... I'm very good at talking to people. It's a good skill to have. But it stems from a good opinion, so make sure you work on that first, okay?"

[00:01:39] Magnus Brakkacia: Yes but at least all of the enemies wear their allegiances on their sleeves.
[00:02:30] Dianthia Avaline: BUt I will do my best to protect the people I care for. In the end, Valmasia should stand united against threats to all people, strong and tightly-locked, like a forest.
