- Jimmy and Janet was high school sweethearts, goin' steady since freshman year, and at sixteen years old Janet had their first child, little Michael. At eighteen, just as Johnny released his first single, 'My Dog, My Truck, My Girlfriend,' Janet gave birth to their second child, Johnny Jr. They married right quick afterwards, and two years later Johnny Sr. debuted at the Ryman Auditorium after two chart-rocking albums. Janet found her calling, too, fixing up vehicles and all manner of grease monkey know-how, even getting a job supervising the construction of a new light rail headin' right through downtown Nashville. Soon after came their first daughter, Monica.
- 'Course, the good times can't last forever, and Johnny Sr. took the fame to his head, spiralling outta control with a cocaine and alcohol addiction, coming home nightly drunk and in a rage. He took it out on whatever was at hand, first his wife, and then little Michael, god bless, 'cause the boy'd stick up for his momma every time. Janet, poor girl, didn't ditch him 'cause she still loved him, and their second daughter, Jessica, was born into the chaos of an abusive household.
- Cassidy weren't born for a few years after, when Michael was seven, and to her, it all seemed normal. Michael made that hard choice, protecting his siblings insteada his ma, making sure they were all out and safe steada at home and targets for their pa, so she never saw the worst of it. But 'course even with makeup it's tough to hide bruises, so it weren't like she didn't know, even from a young age--specially since Michael'd talk about feeding his pa his own teeth once he was big 'nough.
- It all came to a head when she was nine, and her pa beat her ma until she weren't breathing. Michael, armed with a shotgun, did what he had to in the chaos of his father's fury, and all five of 'em was whisked off by child's protective services. Her momma survived, left brain damaged, and her daddy did too, after life-saving surgery. Johnny Sr. earned himself two life sentences in maximum security prison, without parole.
- With no momma or pa to care for the brood, they were split up among foster homes. Cassidy was a problem child from then on, getting into fights at school, failing classes, throwing tantrums--you name it, she did it. Michael ran away from his foster care, huntin' down his sibling and makin' sure they was all okay and being treated right. After a long talking to from Michael, Cass calmed herself down and started doin' good in school, earnin' an A in all her courses at the end of her first school year under foster care. As a surprise, her foster parents got her a puppy, which she named Michael, 'cause her big brother was her protector and her dog should be too.
- Things was okay after that; Cass did well in school, Michael earned himself a degree in nursing and settled in to take care of their mamma, Johnny Jr. changed his name to Maxwell, and Monica and Jessica both avoided getting pregnant all through high school; Monica took after her momma with the grease monkey know-how, and Jessica played the fiddle with her high school band.
- Cassidy did all the normal shit you'd expect of a teenager, flirtin' with boys, sneaking out to go drinking, all of it, and she started going steady with her first boyfriend at fifteen, a boy named Sue Donovan Parks. He was a tough critter, growing up named Sue, but he'd grown up all right and was the quarterback on the football team. Course, like most young love, it didn't last, 'cause Cass figured out she didn't really like him--he was too much like her dad--and Sue didn't take all so kindly to the break up. Not that she could prove it was Sue, but her dog Michael was run over a few nights later.
- When she was sixteen, her foster parents bought her an old, beat up Dodge truck, as a reward for doing so good in school.
- After a few short boyfriends she had a girlfriend for a month, but nothin' really lasted for her, so by senior year she settled in and focused on school, graduated with a perfect GPA, and signed up with the Earth Systems Alliance Navy so she could attend higher education. In boot camp, she proved her mettle, but her biggest talent was her mind, and she was assigned as a Hospital Corpsman.
