- [01:29:34] <camerongray> Well, gaming/high performance/overclocking
- [01:29:43] <camerongray> It was also last generation so not great for Ivy Bridge CPUs
- [01:29:44] <vonruptus> thought it was rules for banning
- [01:30:35] <guest_57> Not really its a laptop, all dusted and fans have been cleaned,
- [01:30:37] <guest_44> Well, I'm starting as a low end comp. but will be mid-oc level by feb.
- [01:30:43] <guest_57> I think it might be a ram problem
- [01:30:43] <camerongray> PSU is also very high quality
- [01:30:52] <guest_57> but i dont got a usb/cd on me to run memtest
- [01:30:59] <camerongray> Hmm, not sure if doing that makes sense as it works out expensive in the long run
- [01:31:09] <the_wanderer> guest_57: it could be the power unit in the monitor , that is causing your issue , as from what said the pc is still running the program .
- [01:31:18] <camerongray> Build it the way you want to keep it at first
- [01:31:29] <guest_44> Well. Getting paid 300$ a month for being a good son helps.
- [01:31:31] <guest_57> Hmm is their any way i can fix/replace that?
- [01:31:36] <camerongray> If you go cheap now, down the line you'll have to replace more and more to OC
- [01:32:21] <camerongray> Save up until you can afford something that you'd be happy with keeping
- [01:32:23] <guest_44> Plus anyway, I got nerd friends I have sold parts too anyway.
- [01:32:25] <Vyshia> guest_57 what type of laptop do you have?
- [01:32:27] <LM> guest_57: is this an online game ?
- [01:32:38] <the_wanderer> guest_57: the 1st thing to do , is change the monitor , try a friends one . then it could be the graphics card
- [01:32:56] <Vyshia> guest_57 and have you done/installed anything recently that might be causing the spikes?
- [01:33:14] --> guest_89 ([email protected]) has joined #computerhope
- [01:33:20] <the_wanderer> guest_57: but as the program still is running . more than likely a monitor issue .
- [01:33:31] <-> guest_89 is now known as Packet
- [01:33:33] <camerongray> For example, if you get an i3 or pentium now, that will use the 1155 socket, down the line when you want to overclock you would want a latest gen i5 or i7, that needs an 1150 socket which means a new motherboard
- [01:33:51] <lostcoast> Packet your not fooling anyone
- [01:33:53] <guest_57> @Vyshia alienware m17xr3,no havent changed anything... @The_wanderer i will test on another monitor when i get home, @LM its an online game but my internet is fine and i can distinguish the lag issues and fps issues
- [01:34:13] <Packet> lostcoast: What do you mean?
- [01:34:15] <Vyshia> guest_57, =) lots of cooks in the kitchen for you, I'll step out
- [01:34:35] <camerongray> guest_44: See above
- [01:34:37] <guest_57> Im getting a buffet xD
- [01:34:38] <the_wanderer> guest_57: thats really is the 1st thing to do .
- [01:35:08] <the_wanderer> as the pc is running .
- [01:35:14] <guest_57> okay is their anyway i can contact you? like tomorrow for instance
- [01:35:29] <Packet> lostcoast: What do you mean I'm not fooling anyone?
- [01:35:36] <camerongray> guest_44: What I'm saying is, build a PC that you would be happy with at the start, buying something low spec then planning when to upgrade is throwing money out the window
- [01:35:40] <the_wanderer> guest_57: just call in . someone will be here . to help
- [01:35:52] --> Quantos ([email protected]) has joined #computerhope
- [01:35:57] <lostcoast> :)
- [01:36:09] <Quantos> Hiya buddy
- [01:36:10] <camerongray> guest_44: I built a top end machine for myself last year, still using it now with no plans to upgrade
- [01:36:26] <guest_57> Quick question @the_wanderer if its my monitor why does my cpu usage spikes to zero then back to normal during the duration of the freeze?
- [01:36:36] <camerongray> If I had gone down the low end route I would have to pretty much replace everything to get what I have now
- [01:36:54] <Vyshia> guest_44 choosing parts that are more compatible with more choice of upgrades = smart thing to do
- [01:37:22] <Vyshia> buying something cheap and nasty means that when you want to upgrade later on, you will find that you won't be able to upgrade very far with the parts you've chosen
- [01:37:23] <guest_44> With a budget of 320 what can I do?
- [01:37:30] <camerongray> guest_44: Wait until you have more!
- [01:37:33] <Packet> Vyshia: Definitely the way to do it, that's exactly what I done with my PC.
- [01:37:40] <the_wanderer> guest_57: could be that the output to the monitor , is not being recieved , by the monitor , thus the return code , from the monitor, is not recieved by the pc .
- [01:38:01] <camerongray> Especially at the moment, the i3s and Pentiums now use different sockets to the new i5s and i7s so to upgrade from one to the other would mean a new board
- [01:38:06] <Packet> guest_44: Not much. I'd suggest saving more money until you can get a decent system.
- [01:38:17] <guest_44> School starts in 2 weeks and I need it. So any suggestions?
- [01:38:18] <camerongray> $320 won't get much at all
- [01:38:19] <guest_57> Okay thanks alot The_wanderer and others
- [01:38:45] <Vyshia> hey cameron, lets be awesome with a small budget
- [01:38:51] <Vyshia> *challenge accepted*
- [01:38:57] <the_wanderer> guest_57: come back with the same nick use /nic newname to change it , if required.
- [01:39:07] <guest_57> Okay
- [01:39:18] <camerongray> I've done stuff in that budget but that was for a basic home/office PC that is used for web browsing and office
- [01:39:21] <guest_57> thanks again and have a great night
- [01:39:25] <the_wanderer> thats was /nick , not /nic sirry .
- [01:39:37] <LM> guest_44: if you have a limited budget look at AMD say the FM3
- [01:39:39] <camerongray> That got a B75 Biostar board, Celeron CPU, 4gb RAM and 120gb SSD
- [01:39:52] <-- guest_57 ([email protected]) has quit (Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client)
- [01:40:15] <guest_44> Amd is not a company I would like to use thank you.
- [01:40:25] <the_wanderer> well biostar are really budget motherboards. but up to you .
- [01:40:48] <LM> guest_44: have you had bad experiences with AMD
- [01:40:48] <Vyshia> guest_44 any reason why not?
- [01:41:10] <Vyshia> guest_44 AMD are far far cheaper then intel, and work just as well for things that aren't gaming as they do for games. @.@
- [01:42:10] <Vyshia> guest_44 I'm not a fanatic over AMD, but I've generally had no issues with their CPUs
- [01:42:12] <the_wanderer> guest_44: in the case of AMD Video cards , i can understand that , but the cpu's are ok
- [01:42:35] <camerongray> Biostar boards are budget yeah, but for a basic machine they are fine, never gone above an i3 in one though
- [01:42:45] <camerongray> Better than the likes of MSI
- [01:42:59] <the_wanderer> thas is correct .
- [01:44:01] <-- the_wanderer ([email protected]) has quit (Quit:)
- [01:44:09] <Vyshia> I have an idea... what about getting a laptop? I mean, you don't need it for gaming, surely they have good/decently priced laptops
- [01:44:11] <baconbuttie> my 10 cents worth...I ran an AMD quad Phenom without any issues, but i do know there can be heat issues with AMD and the AMD GPUs do have issues with driver updates
- [01:44:16] <camerongray> Wait a second...
- [01:44:27] <camerongray> Was the_wanderer db100547?
- [01:44:28] <guest_44> OpenGl is better with intel from experience.
- [01:44:38] <camerongray> Did the same funny thing with spaces before punctuation :P
- [01:45:34] <camerongray> For programming and school you may be better with a laptop
- [01:48:53] --> db100547 ([email protected]) has joined #computerhope
- [01:49:01] <camerongray> Knew it!
- [01:49:11] <camerongray> db100547: I spotted you sneaking!

- [01:50:04] <camerongray> :P
- [01:50:15] <db100547> camerongray: snd in command . here is here in the UK . i was in Paris all day .

- [01:50:52] <camerongray> db100547: Hmm, I'm doubtful :P
- [01:50:55] <guest_49> ...
- [01:51:19] <Vyshia> camerongray, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834231075
- [01:51:21] <db100547> guest_49: howdy .
- [01:51:47] <camerongray> Some mystery person who comes on here from your IP, leaves mins before you come on, and does the same punctuation thing... :P
- [01:51:56] <Packet> camerongray: That's a very broad title, A title ne could deduce a lot of different answers.
- [01:51:57] <camerongray> Or you have a secret twin ;P
- [01:51:58] <db100547> camerongray: i don't care whether you doubtful or not . up to you

- [01:52:31] <db100547> we both use the same systems . and the punction used is required on those systems
- [01:52:36] <Vyshia> guest_49, welcome back. you missed guitarman before
- [01:52:45] <Vyshia> I told him what you wanted to ask and linked him to your channel
- [01:52:49] <guest_49> I just need to know if db is a mod :D
- [01:52:53] <Vyshia> He said thankyou for the praise. XD
