  1. (15:56:15) <Urist> loftar, do expect server popultion rise after update/
  2. (15:56:45) <loftar> I sure hope so, Urist. I think the changes improve the game a lot.
  3. (15:57:14) <loftar> Not only in the current state of the game, either, but they also make it more meaningful to add new stuff in the future.
  4. (15:57:42) <loftar> I think one of the primary reasons why it was starting to feel meaningless to add new stuff to Salem was because the previous systems made new content kind of meaningless.
  5. (15:57:50) <loftar> Especially the gobbling system, which is now fixed.
  6. (16:00:47) <Urist> does it mean update is coming very soon?
  7. (16:01:04) <loftar> They aren't necessarily connected, but I sure hope we'll be able to release the update soon enough. :)
  8. (16:01:17) <loftar> I'm still aiming for the end of the month, but we'll see.
  9. (16:01:22) <loftar> There are a few loose ends.
  10. -
  11. (16:13:48) <loftar> We don't *plan* to make a new Haven world before Hafen, for sure.
  12. -
  13. (16:19:16) <loftar> I think there was generally a better sense of community among players in the times of W1/2/3.
  14. -
  15. (16:31:13) <cmekss1> loftar, i've been wondering with your new game
  16. (16:31:24) <cmekss1> are you going to make mining more engaging
  17. (16:32:30) <loftar> No, it implies that usernames live in their own namespace, where I consider lowercase to be the convention. :)
  18. (16:32:53) <loftar> cmekss1, it's not like we're even close to re-implementing mining yet. :)
  19. (16:33:10) <loftar> We generally don't plan details that far ahead, because they always change along the way anyway.
  20. -
  21. (16:50:58) <loftar> I can support very big maps, for sure.
  22. (16:51:04) <Deus> how big?
  23. (16:51:08) <Deus> reasonably
  24. (16:51:12) <Deus> and how many players
  25. (16:51:12) <urist> loftar, I also remember your decision to make world map smaller because you wanted to rise level of interation between players
  26. (16:51:13) <loftar> Orders of magnitude larger than the current world.
  27. (16:51:16) <Deus> and obkjects
  28. (16:51:23) <urist> is it going to stay same?
  29. (16:51:26) <loftar> It's more a question of how large one actually wants the world to be.
  30. (16:51:41) <Deus> that is dependant
  31. (16:51:45) <urist> or you are going to rething this concept
  32. (16:51:46) <Deus> on the players
  33. (16:51:49) <Judge_Dredd> make it circle around?
  34. (16:51:51) <urist> rethink*
  35. (16:51:56) <Judge_Dredd> so there is no edge?
  36. (16:51:56) <Deus> if you had 100X the palyers it woudl be too small
  37. (16:52:03) <loftar> I am rethinking it, urist.
  38. (16:52:12) <Deus> almost none and it woudl be too small
  39. (16:52:21) <Blood_Raven> and add elephants to hold world :3
  40. (16:52:22) <loftar> But that's already in the IRC logs posted on the forums. ^^

  42. (17:11:31) <loftar> I wouldn't mind dragons and I know Jorb wants them, but it would be completely meaningless to add them as "just another creature".
  43. (17:11:40) <loftar> I'd hate to see people "grinding dragons".
  44. (17:11:40) <Deus> yes
  45. (17:11:44) <Deus> theyd have to be special
  46. (17:11:45) <loftar> Then I'd rather not have them.
  47. (17:11:56) <Judge_Dredd> ah fair point
  48. (17:11:57) <Deus> id liek them if they were significant
  49. (17:12:03) <Deus> and meanignful
  50. (17:12:07) <Deus> not just a creature
  51. (17:12:11) <Deus> liek yous aid
  52. (17:12:51) <loftar> To some extent, though, that can be said for creatures in general. :)
  53. -
  54. (17:13:08) <loftar> Rabbits may be one thing, but I don't particularly enjoy the ability to "grind bears" either. :)
  55. -
  56. (17:14:49) <loftar> Well, I think the main problem lies in the combat system and the AI, really.
  57. (17:15:11) <Deus> ther is always soemthign ebtter
  58. (17:15:25) <Deus> always somethign to work on and for
  59. (17:15:30) <loftar> The combat system should never, I think, be so predetermined that there's never any chance of getting beaten by a bear even if you just let the character stand there.
  60. -
  61. (17:15:58) <Deus> yeah but id also hate to have haven be an action game
  62. (17:16:10) <Deus> like everythign else
  63. (17:16:14) <Deus> its always been special
  64. (17:16:40) <loftar> Sure, but it doesn't have to be that just to have a better combat system than it currently does. :)
