- Special Att. (Rotom-Heat) @ Charti Berry
- Ability: Levitate
- EVs: 252 SAtk / 252 HP / 4 Spd
- Modest Nature
- - Overheat
- - Thunderbolt
- - Hidden Power [Ice]
- - Protect
- Although Rotom-Heat is often overshadowed by its brother Rotom-W, Rotom-H has an excellent offensive typing and base 105 special attack making it a threat in the current doubles metagame. Rotom-Heat particularly stands out as one of the best stops to the standard Char-Y + Venusaur lead. In this set, Overheat and Thunderbolt are the primary STAB moves that Rotom will be using most of the time. Hidden Power ice is to hit to score guarenteed 2HKOs Landorus-T and Garchomp, both of which love to come in on Rotom-H and fire off a Rock Slide. Not to mention, Electric + Ice is excellent coverage. Charti Berry is the item I chose for just this reason, although a Sitrus Berry can also be used if you'd rather that extra longevity, or if you dont fear Lando-T and Garchomp. Protect is standard in the 4th moveslot, and is essential in preserving Rotom-H, who will often be targeted by an opponent and damaged due to it's low speed. The EV spread is a standard special tank spread: max HP and Maximum Speical Attack, with 4 speed to outspeed other Rotoms. Shaymin-Sky forme makes an excellent partner for this set as it threatens ground, water, and slow rock types that can trouble Rotom-H. Likewise, Rotom-H can threaten Overheat on ice types that look to hit Skymin. Earthquake spammers like Garchomp and Landorus-T also make good partners for Rotom-H. Rotom-H can hit the ice types that look to hit the EQ spammers, and is not damaged by Earthquake due to its ability levitate.
- Scarf (Rotom-Heat) @ Choice Scarf
- Ability: Levitate
- Shiny: Yes
- EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 SDef
- Timid Nature
- - Overheat
- - Thunderbolt
- - Hidden Power [Ice]
- - Trick
- Rotom-H's excellent offensive typing and base 86 speed lends itself to being a strong Choice Scarf user. Overheat burns through Grass and Steel Types like Venusaur, Shaymin-Sky, Mega Mawile, Bisharp, and Jirachi, while Thunderbolt dishes serious damage to common water and flying types like Mega Charizard Y, Talonflame, Gyarados, and Politoed. Hidden Power Ice covers Garchomp and Landorus-T and non-Scarfed Salamence. Trick is vital in the 4th moveslot, allowing Rotom-H to cripple Walls like Duskclops and Cresselia. The straightforward EV spread lets Rotom-H hit as hard and as fast as possible. Because of the Choice Scarf, Rotom-H cannot use Protect, therefore it is crucial that at least one of your teammates carry Follow Me/Rage Powder. Togekiss, Jirachi, and Amoonguss all make good partners, particulalry Amoonguss which walls the common Rotom-Wash. Mega Charizard Y also makes a good partner, being able to bring sun and give a boost to Overheat, as well as covering grass types with a 1 turn Solarbeam.
- Support (Rotom-Heat) @ Sitrus Berry
- Ability: Levitate
- EVs: 252 SDef / 248 HP / 8 Spd
- Calm Nature
- - Overheat
- - Thunderbolt
- - Will-O-Wisp/Thunder Wave
- - Protect
- Although Rotom-H's typing lends to a more offensively oriented pokemon, a support set is also a viable option for Rotom-Heat. This set uses Overheat and Thunderbolt as the standard STAB attacks, with Will-O-Wisp or Thunder Wave for landing a status on the opponent, although Will-O-wisp is preffered with so many physical attackers prominent in doubles. The EV spread allows Rotom-Heat to speed creep other Rotoms, with the rest in HP and Special Defence with Will-O-Wisp being used to minimize physical damage on Rotom-Heat. Teammates include pokemon that can check or wall Rotom-Wash like Ammoonguss and Mega Venusaur. Mega Charizard Y also makes a good partner, being able to bring sun and give a boost to Overheat, as well as covering grass types with a 1 turn Solarbeam.
- Checks & Counters
- Gastrodon and Rotom Wash full on stop Rotom-Heat, taking little to no damage from its attacks and not fearing a burn, however Gastrodon must be wary of Trick. Heatran is another wall to Rotom-H, scarf Heatran in particular doesn't even fear being tricked from Rotom-Heat. Tyranitar, Garchomp, and Landorus-T are solid checks, but physical Tyranitar must be wary of burns and Garchomp and Landorus fear burns and HP Ice. Faster hard hitting pokemon lie Dragonite, Haxorus, Kyurem-B, Latios, Mega Kangaskhan, Terrakion, and Deoxys A all threaten Rotom-H with heavy damage or being OHKOd and Rotom-H cannot stay in on these threats. Rain also will hinder Rotom-H however Rotom-H can carry Thunder to play in the rain if required.
