  1. Infographics are popular on the internet because they are easy to distribute, and easy to consume. All you have to do is post a JPG on your medium of choice, be it imageboard, message board or irc and you have a wealth of data ready to consume. However, a problem arises, because they are often times terrible at expessing data meaningfully, which on the surface, one would assume would be their primary purpose.

  3. A good example of this phenomena is this “Who is Occupy Wall St” graphic. Pie charts and stacked bar charts make it difficult to meaningfully compare the information. I took the liberty of redoing it in HTML/CSS, much easier to read, and only 8kb.
