  26. Some Random Author's Notes - v2 (Chapter 12)
  27. -------------------------------------------
  28. Well fuck, it seems /r9k/Elsa is becoming more of a character study than anything else. All you wonderful anons are turning it from something that started as a funny "make Anna and Elsa fuck" thing into a little world where the characters have legitimate motivations, problems and experiences. I've even had a couple of PMs about how some of you are finding it helps you explore your own relationship with the world. The fact that someone out there is identifying with drivel that comes out of my brain is so humbling, and it's what keeps me writing this stuff even when the thread erupts into bitching about it.
  29.
  30. My interpretation of AU Anna seems to be drifting pretty steadily towards the characterisation of her I had in Frozen Fractals – i.e. a bubbly, kind girl with a giant heart that wants to only see the best in people. Not sure if that’s a good thing or a bad thing, but it seems to be the way my mind creates Anna, and it’s not really letting that go any time soon.
  31.
  32. Chapter 12 kind of delves a bit more into her personality as something other than just a generic party girl that plays lacrosse. We’ve already established that Anna loves her sister a whole lot, and really likes to spend time with her (see Chapter 1), but I think an important question to answer there is /why/? Obviously Elsa is her older sister, and there’s a natural tendency to idolise your older sibling (or so I’ve been told. Not sure if my sister idolises me, if her nicknames for me are anything to go by), but for Anna to draw her so intimately is something special. It kind of raises the idea that maybe she’s struggling with some confusing feelings of her own.
  33.
  34. Before you get all horrified at the idea of a happy ending for /r9k/Elsa, I’m not necessarily referring to romantic feelings as such. Think about it this way: if someone doesn’t like you, most of us generally want to find out why. We’re kind of selfish creatures by nature, and have difficulty seeing our own faults, so it becomes kind of like a challenge to determine what it is that makes said person adverse to us, and how we can /make/ them like us. Anna seems to be unsure as to whether her sister likes her or hates her sometimes, so when she finally gets a taste of protective-older-sister Elsa, and she realises the girl loves her far more deeply than she ever knew, it’s gonna be something that really sticks with her.
  35.
  36. So the whole thing with her aggressively taking on that dare from Chapter 11 could probably have an element of her desperately pushing her sister far enough to make her reveal that love again. Anna needs the validation that what she was seeing at the lacrosse final wasn’t a one-time thing.
  37.
  38. Or maybe it was just a drunken kiss. Whatever floats your boat.
  39.
  40. I know some of the original greentexts had Elsa as the drawfag, so I hope it doesn’t rustle too many jimmies that I gave the talent to Anna instead. I feel it fits her better – just because I made Elsa the STEM-kid – and serves as a way for her to express her emotions. I kind of want to bring it up again in a later chapter, but only if it’s really going to fit the story.
  41.
  42. Thanks to the anons who gave me their thoughts on Anna being a bit of a two-dimensional character so far. I know the story is Elsa-centric, but stories get old very quickly if your supporting cast can be replaced with cardboard cutouts. We’ve got a good bit of background going for Rapunzel, I think, and a little for Kristoff (I’ve been Kristoff-bashing a bit, I know, but its Elsa inevitable reaction to her sister’s new boyfriend – I’ll flesh him out a bit soon), but I’m just trying to keep any expounding on their characters purely from Elsa’s POV. It’s a challenge, but I’m really enjoying it so far.
  43.
  44. As always, thanks for reading and for all your comments. I hope I’m taking this AU in the direction you want to see it go, but if not, feel free to hit me up with your ideas.

  47. Some Random Author's Notes - v1 (Chapter 1)
  48. -------------------------------------------
  49. Hi Anons. Thanks for reading my interpretation of /r9k/Elsa. I’m a total pleb when it comes to that board, so forgive me if I haven’t got the characterisation spot on, or if I fuck up the language a bit, but hopefully these ramblings will give you a bit of an insight into how I view this AU version of Elsa.
  50.
  51. I see anonElsa as a real introvert, who’s actually incredibly intelligent, but has just become really cynical at the world, probably because of a not-so-great experience during her teenage years. Maybe she was a loner in high school because all the AP classes she took left zero time for a social life, or maybe she was the recipient of some kind of bullying.
  52.
  53. She found her forte in academics, and she was content with that until she started college, when suddenly the whole ‘quintessential college experience’ crap was being shoved down her throat, and she became frustrated at herself for not being able to involve herself in that. This led to her burying herself further and further into her own interests, until she became the shut-in we know and love.
  54.
  55. She strikes me as the kind of person who’s currently doing a degree in a STEM-related field. Architecture is a possibility, but as far as I know – and this is pure generalisation based on my own experience –architects are fairly outgoing people, whereas Scientists and Engineers tend to be much more reserved, often getting lost in their own heads thinking about things that interest them if they’re involved in a conversation where the topic doesn’t grab them. She probably doesn’t attend many classes, both for trying to avoid unnecessary interaction with people and because she probably started to grow frustrated with the pace of the class or the incompetence of the lecturers – she’s pretty intelligent, after all, and probably does the homework and reading three weeks in advance anyway.
  56.
  57. Obviously the core part of these stories is going to be the interaction between Elsa and Anna. I feel like a huge element of Elsa’s internal struggle when it comes to her sister stems more from the fact that she doesn’t understand exactly what she feels for Anna, rather than the more simple explanation of her being all “Incest bad. Must not succumb.” (That’s not to say there won’t be an element of incest later on, but she’s definitely going to have to try and identify it first.)
  58.
  59. Anna’s the best thing in her life, and seeing that she gives her love to her older sister so freely probably exacerbates Elsa’s feelings of unworthiness, especially if she has difficulty showing the same affection in return. Anna looks up to her like crazy, and Elsa probably can’t handle the pressure of being a role model for her little sister, who she already thinks is perfect anyway.
  60.
  61. All of that is enough to make someone crazy, but adding that undercurrent of physical attraction – which was probably borne from the pure (platonic) emotional attraction she had for her sister, Elsa’s mind kind of…overloads when she thinks of Anna. The whole act of pushing her away is literally just to give her some breathing room, but it just makes her feel guiltier, which makes her crazier, and it just becomes one big spiral of suffering.
  62.
  63. On a final note, I’m trying something a little new with narrative structure here. Whereas Frozen Fractals was a mix of only description and dialogue, I’ve had a go at adding Elsa’s internal thoughts here as well. It leaves me a little more flexibility to explore exactly what she’s thinking, because let’s face it, ninety percent of what goes through her mind she doesn’t say out loud, so there’s not really any other way to portray that internal dialogue. I’m not sure if it works, but I trust you guys will flame me quickly if it’s rubbish.
