  3. To receive performance points for the Winter Band concert you will miss on

  5. February 10, please complete ONE of these alternate assignments before

  9. 1. Attend another band concert (such as a Central HS, Red River HS, or a

  11. UND band concert.)
  12.  
  13.  Write a review of the concert.

  15.  Include a critical analysis of the performance addressing things we
  16.  
  17. talk about in class: Balance of the ensemble(being able to hear the
  18.  
  19. melody without certain voices sticking out), intonation(pitch), clear
  20.  
  21. articulation, steady rhythm, dynamics and beauty, emotion the music
  22.  
  23. is suggesting, etc.
  24.  
  25.  Include a brief description of the music performed.
  26.  
  27.  Include your opinion and enjoyment level of the concert.
  28.  
  29.  Attach your review to the program from the concert and turn it in to
  30.  
  31. me before the concert date of February 10.

  33. 2. Write a paper on a topic related to band. There are many topics for you
  34.  
  35. to choose from. You may visit with me if you need help with ideas. Some
  36.  
  37. possible choices might include a biography of John Phillip Sousa, the history of
  38.  
  39. your instrument, military bands, brass bands, big bands, etc.
  40.  
  41. 3. Write a paper on topics relating to the pieces that will be performed at
  42.  
  43. the concert. You may write about the pieces played by any of the bands.
  44.  
  45. You may write about one or more of the composers, or write about one or
  46.  
  47. more of the pieces. The pieces selected for performance won’t be known for
  48.  
  49. a few weeks. We will be sight reading new music for a few weeks to
  50.  
  51. determine what music will work best for the group.
  52.  
  53. All papers must be a minimum of one page typed, double-spaced using Level
  54.  
  55. Two Writing Skills: More formal writing in report form with complete
  56.  
  57. sentences, capital letters, punctuation, and no abbreviations.
