  7.
  8. TORONTO - The Trinity-Spadina Federal Liberal Executive held an urgent meeting yesterday evening to discuss the actions of the Liberal Party of Canada regarding the upcoming nomination in the Toronto riding of Trinity-Spadina.
  9.
  10. The riding Executive voted to condemn both the process and the decision made by the Liberal Party to block its only known nominee in an imminent by-election, breaking its promise to hold open nominations. The Executive deemed the Party’s actions undemocratic and made without consultation with either the riding President or Executive.
  11.
  12. “There was absolutely no due or fair process” said Julia Metus, President of the Association.
  13. “No one picked up the phone to contact me, there was no opportunity to discuss their concerns, and there was zero local involvement. This is contrary to everything the Liberal Party – new or otherwise – is supposed to stand for.”
  14.
  15. The Executive believes that the underlying issue relates to its proposed candidate declining to sign a declaration to seek the nomination in Spadina-Fort York for the 2015 general election, an act that would conflict with the party’s open nomination policy. In response, the Party made unproven and malicious allegations against the candidate and her family to cover up its desire to control the nomination process.
  16.
  17. The Trinity-Spadina Federal Executive is requesting a meeting with Federal Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau to review this decision and return to fairness and due process.
