  1. [Me] I have a bit of a pickle. I may have found a job opportunity in [city] but they want me to interview in person. I don't know if my car can make it. Can you give me a ride or know someone who can?
  2.
  3. [Uncle] What does it pay? Would you make enough to get an apartment and all? You keep leaving and never get yourself established. Talk to me.
  4.
  5. [Me] I'm trying to get a job so I can get established to begin with. I can't stay in [current town] forever. And the lease is up next month where am I going to go?
  6.
  7. [Uncle] What does it pay? Well sorry but I have seen you go all over and that's not the answer either. I think you need a coming to Jesus to get help so you can make it on your own. You have to fix yourself and stay in [current low hours, min wage job] for a while. You are showing a track record of job hopping. [wtf?] You came to me couple of years ago and I should have done things different. If you're asking for help we need to start with you getting a job then learn a trade. Art school is not going to put food on the table. [Ah, the old 'creativity is useless' argument] You going to another town is not going to help if you change jobs like in [current town]. You will be in the same situation.

  9. [Note: I held a job for two years here before I had to quit for my own health. I was working in a smoking environment and it was beginning to affect my lungs. Clearly, I should have just kept going, lung cancer risk be damned. The second job at Walmart is the one I was dismissed from for essentially having depression and having "low productivity" as a result. Also, the only reason I came to him was because I was trying to get away from an abusive employer that was only paying me the equivalent of $4 an hour.]
  10.
  11. [Me] Who said I was going to art school? I don't know what it pays yet, I need transportation to get there, is all.
  12.
  13. [Uncle] That does not make sense.
  14.
  15. [me] I can't stay in a min wage job. [current town] has few options outside of restaurants that are also min wage. How doesn't it make sense? They offer salary at the interview.
  16.
  17. [Uncle] Without a trade no matter what you will be in the same boat. [I'm not disputing that... I want to learn medical transcriptioning for fuck's sake.] You can't keep a job, that's the problem. You need to fix you first. [Which I can't do in my current town, THAT'S THE PROBLEM.]
  18.
  19. [Me] I'm trying to get to where I can get a trade. [local community college] doesn't have anything but fire science and medical, you know that.
  20.
  21. [Uncle] Ok you still need to hold a job. How many states and jobs have you had. [A lot. Because I was trying to get to where I WOULDN'T HAVE TO RELY ON YOU.] You save up or work your way up. You could have done that at the casino. [which was the smoking environment that was putting my health at risk.]
  22.
  23. [Me] I need a full time job. The newspaper [current job] isn't going to do that for me. I'm still going to have nowhere to go when the lease is up. Does homelessness put me in a better situation?
  24.
  25. [Uncle] Why don't you go talk to [EXTREMELY RACIST, PRO-LGBT VIOLENCE UNCLE] and the casino and tell them "I messed up and need to come back" What are you going to do in [city]? You need money to have a place.
  26.
  27. [Me] I already tried to go back. It was the first place I talked to. I need a steady job before I can leave.
  28.
  29. [Uncle] My try or your try. [this is a common theme with him. If you don't get something that you wanted, clearly you weren't trying hard enough and has nothing whatsoever to do with the fact that our town is notoriously awful when it comes to nepotism. It's your fault for not getting the thing, no outside circumstances at all played a part.]
  30.
  31. [Me] Job first. Then apartment.
  32.
  33. [Uncle] Casino was a good job, you left it. [SO I WOULDN'T GET LUNG CANCER.] You make no sense. You need to change.
  34.
  35. [Me] I can't stay in [current town] either.
  36.
  37. [Uncle] You need to talk to [bigot uncle]. This is a big problem for you. I will help but not in the way you might want [Here it comes...] if you have nowhere to go, but no computer and the other crap to go with it. [Note that most places use online applications and want you to email your resume, not to mention a huge chunk of livelihood can come from online like Upwork etc.] You need to change your habits. I can't help you in another town. Not [city] that is dumb. Go talk to [bigot uncle] Maybe he has an alternative answer. You want help or not?
  38.
  39. [Me] [freaking out because this guy wants me to be cut off from everyone and everything so they can "fix me" holy shit] Give me time to think. Also. I just asked if you might know someone who could give me a ride to a job interview that's not minimum wage. All you had to say was "sorry I can't"
  40.
  41. [Uncle] Sorry we care and want you to succeed [how's that passive aggressiveness working out for you man]
  42.
  43. [Me] You want to ut me in a "we're using Jesus to fix you with no way to contact outside help" situation, you don't think that scares me? Seriously. I'm terrified of the way you see the world and the people in it.
  44.
  45. [Uncle] You definitely need some help. Your family is the only ones that care. You don't realize that. Remember who helped last time you were in trouble. Was not your outside world. I'm harder on my kids but they don't take off and leave. [THIS IS A LIE. Two of them moved out and one even lives out of state. One only moved back in because he had heart failure.] Obviously they love us. [cute...] I just want to help but not have you take off and make mistakes. I want to help but it's not the way you want it. [BECAUSE IT'S MANIPULATIVE AS FUCK] Let me know when you need help. The real kind of help. Problem is your generation does not know how to work and struggle to survive like our parents. [AGEISM] They didn't take off or change jobs. I would help but you have to show you can work hard.
