  1. The new Frost rotation sees the abolishment of 2h and DW Frost.
  2. Frost now uses 2h weapons exclusively, while Unholy is now the DW spec.
  3. Runic Corruption and Blood Tap now "stances", with Blood/Frost/Unholy Presence having become unique to each spec. These stances cannot be changed during combat. Blood Tap is still macroable.
  4.
  5. Frost:
  6.
  7. -Killing Machine is no longer caused by melee attacks. Instead, it now has a x% stacking chance to occur when the Death Knight uses Howling Blast.
  8. -Rime is now a guaranteed proc off of KM-Obliterates, rather than a 45% chance to proc off any Obliterate. Howling Blasts from Rime procs deal 50% more damage than normal Howling Blasts.
  9. -In addition to increasing its critical strike chance by 100%, Killing Machine now also causes Frost Strike to his 2 additional targets for 100% of the damage it deals to the main target.
  10. -Blood Plague and Plague Strike have been removed from the Frost DK arsenal.
  11.
  12.
  13. Frost Rotation:
  14.
  15. -2 x Howling Blast still outdamage 1 x Obliterate unless Killing Machine has procced. Thus, Frost DKs still use Howling Blast as part of their single-target rotation.
  16. -When Killing Machine procs, hitting Obliterate is the optimal move for single-target attacks; particularly because of Rime.
  17. -KM Frost Strike is a DPS loss over KM Obliterate on single-target, but becomes optimal to use when faced with 3+ targets. With 1-2 targets, KM-OB is still a greater increase.
  18.
  19. Frost Goals:
  20.
  21. -Blood Plague and Plague Strike are vestigial abilities and passives that no longer serve an interesting purpose for Frost.
  22. -The new Killing Machine demands attention, and potential stalling to align for correct procs. An optimal single-target rotation will still see an Unholy rune used to Obliterate.
  23. -KM-Frost Strike's new functionality synergies well with AoE. Thus, Howling Blast spam is still optimal in AoE, and the Rime procs from KM-OB don't force Obliterate usage when you want to hit multiple targets.
  24.
  25. Unholy:
  26.
  27. -Reaping has been changed. It now causes Blood/Frost Runes to become permanently converted to Death Runes.
  28. -Necrotic Plague is no longer a Level 100 Talent. It now replaces both Blood Plague and Frost Fever for Unholy DKs.
  29. -Plague Strike and Icy Touch have been removed from Unholy's arsenal.
  30. -Outbreak no longer has a cooldown for Unholy DKs.
  31. -Morbidity is a new passive for both Unholy and Blood DKs- it reduces the cooldown of Death and Decay by 15 seconds.
  32.
  33. Unholy Rotation:
  34.
  35. -Festerblight is essentially mandatory for Unholy DKs with these changes. An appropriate ratio of Festering Strikes : Scourge Strikes determines the relative skill of players- maintaining a 15-stack of Necrotic Plague is important, but so is getting in as many Scourge Strikes as possible.
  36. -Pestilence and DnD remain Unholy's main AoE moves. These changes allow seamless switching between Scourge Striking or Pestilencing with Death Runes as appropriate.
  37. -Death and Decay not only remains in Unholy's ST rotation, but also becomes used much more frequently thanks to Morbidity.
  38.
  39. Unholy Goals:
  40.
  41. -Diseases can and should still be a major focus of Unholy gameplay. Making Festerblight a baseline playstyle for the spec also justifies the shift to permanent Frost/Blood Runes- otherwise, there'd be no reason to use Festering Strike.
  42. -The permanent Death Rune change removes excessive resource juggling for Unholy DKs. The spec can now seamlessly transition in and out of AoE rotations while still having to press different buttons. Remember that the Unholy DK AoE rotation is still split into: Disease damage, Pestilence damage, Necrosis damage, Ghoul damage and DnD.
  43. -The Gargoyle and Ghoul still remain prominent features of Unholy's damage; and the rotation itself doesn't change as much as Frost's has.
