A good topic sentence will include both the goal (What do you want to do?) and how to reach it (What do you need to do?) You do not need to give specific details about the process in this sentence.

Write down a list of things you know how to do, which you think many people can’t do well.

Choose one thing you know how to do. Write a list of everything necessary in order to do that. (Don’t worry about the order.) Write a list similar to p. 83 about your topic.

	sugar, corn syrup, eggs, butter, vanilla, flour, chocolate chips, pecans
make crust (2)
mix eggs and butter and hot sugar (5)
add vanilla (6)
heat sugar and syrup (4)
add pecans and pour mix into crust (7)

Then edit your list. Choose the best order for the steps. (Choose an order even if it’s list-order.) Cross out (remove) steps that are repeated or not necessary.

After that, make an outline with the steps in the correct order (p. 85).
