Aedrith's Aether - Chapter 19

The Lord of the Crimson Fang Plain took its last breath as the bullet penetrates its brain.
The high pitched wail stopped with the gunfire as a signal.
The Crimson Fang Plain has lost it's Lord.

Watching the huge crimson kobold falls into the ground, Yuki kept aiming.
Only after a short moment Yuki lets down the Mosin.
Inside his pocket there are three magazines left.

Yuki had received four magazine worth of the ammunition.
However there is only one magazine, thus after emptying the magazine Yuki has to fill it by hand.
For that reason Yuki avoided the usage of the rifle at all cost.

Another reason would be the widespread of firearm.
The Mosin Nagant with the exception of the Hearthmetal is made from cheap material.
If the metal is replaced using cheaper one, it would be possible to mass produce the Mosin.

However, the government controls the public using spellcraft and magic.
The economy also naturally revolves around the resource that's important in spellcraft.
The spread of firearms would impact the social relation between mages and normal people.
In worst case, a civil war might break out.

Furthermore, the mosin is terribly easy to use and is very accurate.
Since the economy place high importance on gemstones and minerals,
naturally, material used for the bullet is very cheap.
The brass, lead and powedered fire porcupine spike used for one box of ammunition is equal to a small amount of fine-cut gemstone.

However, just three bullet took out a Depth 4 Sit
e's Lord.
Of course considering that it was already damage, three bullets won't really kills it.
However a dozen of bullets can cripple it, especially when there are multiple shooter.

If the firearm that can kill a Site's Lord is mass produced carelessly it become potentially dangerous.
Yuki decided to keep the schematic in secret between him and Kendall.
If possible, Yuki would like to halt further production of firearms.

The earlier high pitched scream had caused his team-mates and spelunkers from Wilhelmshaven to gather.
Yuki already re-packed the rifle and carries it on his back when everyone else arrived.
Everyone stared with a wide eyed at the corpse of the Crimson Fang that lays not so far from them.

"The Crimson Fang? Is it...? dead?"

Brant exclaimed with a loud voice.
His voice become the starting cue for other to speak
The members of Wilhelmshaven murmurs between each other.
The students of Class 416 also clamors.

Each of them is claiming that it's impossible.
However the bare evidence is laid in front of their eyes.
The two groups went down to inspect the corpse of the plain's lord.

Due to the red fur, blood traces is hard to see.
Furthermore wound from a gunfire is small in comparison to the  huge body.
In their hasty inspection, the group didn't find any wound except those done by Wilhelmshaven member.

"There is no wound!"

"This is impossible."

"What kind of Aether art is it?"

Everyone starts to gather around Yuki.
Each one starts begging to know the non-existent Aether art that can kills a Depth 4 site lord from a distace.
Yuki was about to break down from the pressure as Giraud chases the crowd away.

"Every one has a right to keep their Aether art secret.
Wilhelmshaven members, are you not ashamed of begging a student of his secrets?
Likewise, Association students, are you low enough to pressure your peer into giving his secret?"

"Ms Giraud, thank you.
But I have the duty to tell at least everyone in this place.
This is to prevent bogus rumours being spread."

"Is that fine with you?"

"After the rumour spread, I will be chased by other people anyway.
At the very least I would like to be chased due to a good reason. Not a bogus rumour."

"I see, I swear that my members shall not divulge more than you are going to expose."

"Thank you.
Perhaps only Giraud and my classmate will know about this, but I'm a Rift People.
I have been transported into this place due to unknown reason."

"My original world is vastly different from Aedrith. In my world, science progressed and mankind has their feet stepped onto moon.
What I use to kill the Crimson Fang is not an Aether art, but a weapon that originated from my world."

Yuki takes out the wrapped up Mosin on this back and exposed it.

"Originally, it is impossible to recreate this weapon without technology of my world.
However along with some of my acquaintances, we have recreated this weapon using material and technology from this world.
I'm going to tell you directly, I shall not tell anyone of the method of creating this weapon nor shall I create more of this weapon.
I too won't tell the principle on how this weapon works either for I fear of the mass produce of this weapon.
That is all."

After the short explanation of the rifle, Yuki put back his Mosin on his back.
Once he finish he stared at the everyone with a cold gaze

"If you have any question, I will answer it. However I will not tell you anything about my world technology."

Someone from the Wilhelmshaven comes forward.

"If that weapon is powerful, mass producing it can help the effort in deep plane spelunking. Why are you against of the publication of the weapon.?"

"There are various reason, but the biggest concern is that this weapon is very easy to use.
This weapon in my world is restricted for the military use only.
But you see how easily I can defeat a Site Lord by using this thing?
If such weapon is marketed, everyone will be able to use it.
Sooner of later, it'll be used against people."

"But if such weapon can be  used by all spelunker it could save their lives."

"it could also take their life.
I have seen people giving children half my age this weapon.
They are trained to kill other people!
And guess what, they are effective!
One last reason, and I won't accept any other question after this,
I will tell you that this weapon requires resource to use, just like spellcraft that needs gemstones.
Perhaps it's because of gemstones price being high, however the resource needed to power it is incredibly cheap.
I can use this fifty times at a cost of a small gemstone, and using it three times is enough to kill a site lord."

Everyone gave Yuki a surprised look.
Each of his reason is actually the benefit of the weapon.
However the huge benefit of the weapon itself had become the weapon's largest disadvantage.

Firearms in Aedrith is a new technology.
Technologies that are prone to abuse.
As long as there are no means to prevent the abuse, the weapon shall never be produced.
Yuki made that resolve on the way back to the spelunker's camo.
