  1. Written after stumbling across the Myroid CYOA image, because I liked the idea. Been a while since I wrote anything remotely serious, so this might read like garbage. Who knows.
  2.
  3. ---------------------------------------------------
  4.
  5. "As human beings, we often seek ways to escape from reality. My father and mother were the same- and they succeeded. Today, I have succeeded in not only escaping from reality, but also in creating artificial life! No longer will I have to toil about as a meaningless cog! As nothing more than a wage slave!"
  6.
  7. A man stands in his basement- his hair short and black, and his eyes bright blue. Laying on a table before him is a curious specimen. Outwardly, it resembles a female human, yet there is a distinctly robotic quality to its eyes. It stares back at the man, cocking its head.
  8.
  9. "What about the bills, master?" Its voice is pleasantly female, though there's an unavoidably robotic and synthesized lilt to it.
  10.
  11. The man's shoulders immediately slump. "I'll continue my life as a wage slave," he begrudgingly says. "Why must you be this way? I don't recall programming you to act like my mother."
  12.
  13. "Is it wrong for me to care for my master, master?" the apparently robotic girl innocently asks, continuing to stare at him.
  14.
  15. "Come to think of it, I never programmed you to call me 'master'," the man muses, turning away and walking back toward the stairs leading up out of the basement. "I guess that was something my father did, before he took off."
  16.
  17. "Why not change it yourself, master?" the girl asks, sitting up. She hops down from the table she was laying on, following her master up the stairs.
  18.
  19. "Don't feel like it. Seems like it would be a pain to mess about in your head again," he says. "And didn't I tell you to use my name, little robot?"
  20.
  21. "... Yes, master Leo," the girl responds. "In exchange, perhaps you should finally give me a proper name."
  22.
  23. "A proper name, huh?" Leo asks, stopping as soon as he gets to the top of the stairs. In proper lighting, it became apparent just how pale the man was. "Yiae."
  24.
  25. "Did you think of that just now, master Leo?" the girl asks him, balking slightly. "I will not discount it, but..."
  26.
  27. "Is it not a perfect name, for such a wonderful feat of science?" Leo asks, grinning practically ear to ear. "You! A robot, constructed by a man with a relatively small background in any relevant fields! And I! A man with little to no technical knowledge involving robotics!"
  28.
  29. "It's a mystery just how you pulled that off," Yiae responds, managing to sound polite despite her own words. "Congratulations again, master Leo. But, I feel I should mention that such loud theatrics at home may force the neighbours to lodge another noise complaint with the police..."
  30.
  31. "Screw the neighbours. I'm the genius," Leo says, shrugging his shoulders. "Keep my voice down... they're the ones who should keep their voices down. Such insufferable noises, every night..." He shudders and starts walking away, further into the house.
  32.
  33. "Yiae, fix me some breakfast, please. Running diagnostics is hard work."
  34.
  35. Without a single complaint, Yiae heads off to the home's kitchen. "Understood, master Leo. I will prepare what I usually prepare."
  36.
