  1. You define yourself as an athlete. You've always depended on sports. They were your social activity all through your childhood and now they're the key to your future. You were playing your sport of choice when you fell. You landed badly - something hard hit your back, and you don't really remember what happened after. You wake up in the hospital. You're lying in a bed, IV connected to your hand. It's hard to remain lucid, with the searing pain throughout your body. It /really/ hurts. Worse when you try to move. You see two figures in your peripheral vision, wearing lab coats. You try to move your head but give up when the pain redoubles. One of the doctors gestures at you and you catch three words of his sentence. "-never walk again."
  2. In shock and denial, you immediately try to stand. You push through the pain - this is more important. You strain and pull with your arms, first pushing the railing down and then swinging the lower half of your body out of the bed. You fall to the floor. Your legs don't respond at all. You lie there on your back, tears in your eyes, pain echoing through your body and mind. Your denial vanishes. You trigger.
