  1. a straight white male, and until recently I’ve never had any reason to feel ashamed of it. But after spending a lot of time over the past few months reading messages posted by pro-Trump “alt-right” social media users, I’ve come to really feel humiliated when I consider that I’m part of the same demographic as they are.
  2.
  3. The “alt-right,” in case you don’t know, are Trump’s most dedicated fans on the web and they gleefully attack anyone whom Trump targets on social media with vicious messages loaded with racism, misogyny, anti-Semitism, homophobia, and just about every other nasty form of prejudice you can imagine.
  4.
  5. They also happen to be the saddest and most embarrassing pack of losers the American political scene has ever encountered, as their ideology basically boils down to re-heated neo-Nazism that’s thinly papered over by a love of role-playing games and anime porn.
  6.
  7. The most pitiful characteristic of alt-righters is their deep-seated anxiety about rugged men of color swooping into the country and sleeping with the beautiful white women who are supposed to be “theirs.” For instance, in explaining why the neo-Nazi movement sees Taylor Swift as an “Aryan goddess” recently, The Daily Stormer’s Andre Anglin explained that Swift exudes “1950s purity, femininity and innocence,” which makes her a more desirable option than white celebrities like Miley Cyrus who are “out having gang-bangs with colored gentlemen.”
  8.
  9. Similarly, alt-righters love referring to their opponents as “cucks,” which is short for “cuckold,” a derogatory term for a man whose wife is sleeping with another man. The basic idea behind this insult is that unless you favor a regime based around white supremacy, you are inviting men from other races to cuckold you. They even regularly lob this insult at conservatives who are insufficiently enthusiastic about racial purity by calling them “cuckservatives” and particularly enjoy bashing Christian families who adopt kids from other parts of the world, as Red State’s Erick Erickson has documented.
  10.
  11. “The cuckservative is often fanatically in favor of transracial adoption,” writes one anonymous alt-righter cited by Erickson. “He sees it as some divine calling. In a sense, this is cuckoldry at its essence, since these whites are usually forgoing their own inclusive fitness to adopt someone from another race… they’re race-cucking their own families.”
  12.
  13. This fear that handsome young immigrants will storm into the country and sweep white women off their feet is the biggest reason they support Trump, whom they see as a pre-ordained “Aryan Warrior” savior figure who will make America white again. As Slate recently noted, the late white nationalist thinker David Lane wrote a tract called 88 Precepts that foresees the coming of a “strongman” who will emerge from the embers of America’s dying democracy and who will use brutal methods to protect the white race as “the only way to restore order out of the chaos caused by a democracy.”
  14.
  15. OK, seriously: White supremacists have fan fiction that prophesies the coming of an Aryan Chosen One who will save them from encroaching forces of darkness? Have you ever heard of anything dorkier in your entire life? I honestly imagine alt-rightists breathlessly reading this tract while sipping eagerly on Mountain Dew Code Red and fondling a sack of 12-sided dice.
  16.
  17. In fact, the alt-right’s devotion to seeing Trump as their knight in tacky orange armor is so great that they regularly refer to him as (I’m not making this up) “Daddy.” If you are so personally insecure that you see a clownish stubby-fingered conman as a father figure who will protect you from the horrors of dark-skinned people, you truly have nothing worthwhile going on in your life. As your own self-proclaimed god figure would say: “Sad!”
  18.
  19. At any rate, reading about the alt-right has opened my eyes to just how embarrassing white people can actually be. To excise the shame of it, I have to constantly remind myself that there are still worthy white role models for me out there while looking at myself in the mirror and repeating the words, “White can be beautiful… white can be beautiful…”
