  1. The Necronomicon dates back way farther than the existence, of not only human beings, but the kin of its former masters. None exactly knows how it came to, or why it is so, but there’s a clear relation of it with the Elder Ones.
  2.
  3. The Elder Ones go by many names. The Old Ones, the Primodial beings. Whichever you call them, it is absolute that they have existed for eons and developed a tremendous amount of power.
  4.
  5. The strongest theory of its origin was found by Howard Lovecraft. According to him, the book was originally called Al Azif, an Arabic word that Howard defined as “that nocturnal sound supposed to be the howling of demons.”
  6.
  7. He obtained the book from Alhazred, an occultist of the Elder Ones. He battled with Alhazred for the book. Why exactly he did so is unknown. Howard won against the occultist and read the book. This triggered his spiraling descent into their Elder Ones enigmatic chaos. The day he opened it linked him with the Elder Ones, despite being unable to use it at the time.
  8.
  9. Although he obtained the Necronomicon, it didn’t necessarily enable him to use it. It only pushed him to his sanity’s edge. He was determined to figure it out however, seeking out any professionals involved in their esoteric world. As one expected, it didn’t end well. His supposed translators either were killed by the book or cause them the inability of cohesion. Some people’s souls were even taken by the book through seduction of an unknown desire.
  10.
  11. He was driven further to his limit. Maybe if Howard hadn’t been tainted by the eldritch magic, he could’ve just dropped and buried the book forever. Instead, he dove in to learn more. He projected through the astral as a vagabond, wandering in the world of the book itself. It worked, it helped him understand and utilize it piece by piece. What he didn’t know however, is that this kind of magic is addictive.
  12.
  13. He claimed to be too poor for anything, telling his wife through letters that he could not feed due to his unemployment. In reality, he was too obsessed with the book. For each passing day, he stayed inside of its world longer, satiating his lust for its content.
  14.
  15. He learned that the book is actually an eldritch being, but without any will or sentience. Soon he was able to harness its very energy, but it wasn’t enough. He felt like he needed to know more. In truth, it was the book’s way of expressing itself, and it has greatly influenced Howard. Using its godly amount of magic, Howard used it to connect his soul with the Elder Ones in hopes for more. The tethering link was focused with Azathoth, knowing he is the true creator of it. Surprisingly, it was pretty neutral. Its lesser offspring weren’t as lenient however. They wanted to consume it. While combatting for his life, he studied their world and Azathoth. He learned more, but at the time when he knew what to do with it, came strongest of Azathoth. He caught their attention, a lot of them. Xalafu, Cthulhu, Toth, Sthanee, they all wanted to toy with him.
  16.
  17. Howard suffered through these years, unable to return to his body as it withered. The outer gods brought him to dimensions of real and unreal formation. Some were hallucinations, some were not. They made him their toy. With the help of the Necronomicon however, and whatever ounce of magic left in him he broke through. While on the astral he searched for his wife, only to learn how much time has passed in the primal realm. She wed someone else, but he learned more. She was bore a child, not of her new man, but his.
  18.
  19. In his temporal clarity, he gave Florence the Necronomicon through his soulscape. He bounded the book with the child’s soul, hoping that one day he’ll find a use of it for good. Unlike him. Without any fight left in him, Howard left his soul at the mercy of the eldritch gods.
