- OBSERVATIONS
- It's strange that in the three sets with steel hammers the humans with armor user skill won, but then in the third set of the tests with steel axes the humans without armor user skill won all three times, and then in the sets with steel spears it goes back to the humans with armor users winning all the time but then in second set of the unarmed tests the humans without armor users won all three times. It doesn't make me think that the armor user skill actually makes armor more effective against attacks, what it does make think is that it the higher win count of the humans with armor user skills comes from the fact that they tire less quickly than the other humans, encumbrance affects endurance, it makes creatures tire themselves faster, but armor user reduces that encumbrance penalty, and as my previous attribute tests show, in fight with armored creatures, the one with higher endurance has a significant advantage.
- I think there should be a second test, and this time armor encumbrance needs to disappear, that way we can truly see if armor user actually does make armor protect more against attacks, now, I'm not sure how to do this, I have several ideas in my head, the first one would be to use adamantine armor instead of steel armor, a full set of adamantine armor is still so light that it doesn't encumber a human, so they shouldn't get tired quicker, and as for weapons we could use platinum hammers(even though based off the previous test I don't think they're more effective than steel ones) and adamantine axes and spears, another way to do it would be to make a metal that has all the qualities of steel but is much lighter.
- Also, I still haven't tested ranged weapons, and I think I should make some, maybe armor user will make a difference against them, one interesting thing I've noted when toying around in the arena is that ranged weapons are still very effective against armor, a completely unskilled human with a copper crossbow and copper bolts can still damage a human wearing a full set of adamantine armor, if the crossbowman gets lucky and manages to hit a limb, the bolt will get deflected, but there is a high change that the force will be pull the limb, and if it does it's very likely that muscles will get torn, which will render the limb unusable, and this can even happen to a human protected by the dreaded adamantine cloak, and with a higher skilled crossbowman and heavier bolts, the chance of that happening goes significantly higher, the upper and lower body will be completely protected though, but both humans, the one wearing the full set and the one wearing the cloak will be fully protected from hits to the upper and lower body.
- There are also some interesting things I've noted about armor encumbrance and how it works, from what I've seen, there are three things that affer armor encumbrance, strength, size and armor user. Height and broadness modifiers are still applied in the arena, I've noticed this when I spawned several humans with a full set of armor, and each one of them had a different walk speed, I thought this must be because encumbrance levels were different between all of them, and I wondered why, it clearly couldn't be attributes because all creatures in the arena are spawned with average attributes for their race (for the humans that is 1000 in every attribute), so I thought that maybe it had something to do with size, I then used the gm-editor in dfhack to increase the size of one of the humans, and when I checked him after doing that I saw that his walking speed increased, then, I picked another human and decreased it's size with the gm-editor, and when I checked him I saw that his walking speed decreased. I don't know is this was something that people knew, but it's a completely new discovery for me, I always thought that creatures in the arena were spawned with their average size, which for the humans would be 70000. As for strength and armor user, strength is the only attribute that decreases encumbrance, if you increase the strength of a creature it will be less encumbered, same thing with armor user, armor user only affects armor encumbrance, while strength also affects inventory encumbrance, and I guess size does the same thing too.
