- Welcome to the one and only troubleshooting guide where you will find information on alot of error codes and other issues. However, when the troubleshooting guide you need is not in here, create a topic about it, and when it gets answered, PM me the answer and the creator of the answer and I will add it here (with credit ofcourse).
- Windows 10 upgrade error code troubleshooting:
- [spoiler]Error Code: 80240020 requires editing Registery *BE CAREFUL* This error can occur when installing Windows 10.
- To fix this error:
- Locate the registery key:
- [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\OSUpgrade]
- The key should exist, but if it doesn't, you'll need to create it.
- Create a new DWORD (32-bit) Value with Name = "AllowOSUpgrade" (WITHOUT THE QOUTES) and set the Value = 0x00000001
- Error Code: 0x80200056 means your upgrade process got interrupted because the computer for instance accidentally did a reboot. To fix this, try upgrading again.
- Error Code: 0x800F0922 happens when there isn't enough free space on your computer or partition. You have to use software to increase the size of the SRP to fix this, if your HDD/SSD doesn't have enough space try deleting some programs.
- Error Code: 0x800F0923 happens when a specific driver or software is not compatible with the upgrade to Windows 10.
- To fix this error:
- Go to the Get Windows 10 app.
- Click the hamburger menu button and click on Check your PC.
- Identify which driver is not compatible.

- Solution:
- 1. Check your ADSL line as it is probably not synchronized
- 2. Verify that your Security Options are correctly set in your connection options
- 3. Either your Network Card or your modem might not work properly. Contact a technician if the problem persists
- Error #995
- Error Message: To dial out using this connection, you must use a smart card.
- Solution:
- 1. Ensure that all authorisation is allowed in your connection settings in the Security section
- 2. Verify that you have correctly set the other dialler settings
- 3. Else, create the dialler again
- 4. You might need to use the Smart Card Reader as initially setup by the Network Administrator
- Error #780
- Error Message: It was not possible to verify the identity of the server.
- Solution:
- 1. Ensure that you are dialling the correct phone number
- 2. Verify the connection and Network settings
- 3. Ensure that you do not have an outage on the phone line
- 4. Ensure that you have correctly installed your modem and check for updated drivers
- 5. Set FIFO buffers to a lower speed and ensure that you have unchecked the option "Only connect at this speed"
- Error #779
- Error Message: It was not possible to verify the identity of the server.
- Solution:
- 1. Ensure that you are dialling the correct phone number
- 2. Verify the connection and Network settings
- 3. Ensure that you do not have an outage on the phone line
- 4. Ensure that you have correctly installed your modem and check for updated drivers
- 5. Set FIFO buffers to a lower speed and ensure that you have unchecked the option "Only connect at this speed"
- Error #779
- Error Message: The connection attempt failed because the modem on the remote computer is out of order.
- Solution:
- 1. Install Blue Frog connection software again
- 2. Install your modem drivers again
- 3. Else, install a new modem
- Error #778
- Error Message: Hardware failure in port or attached device.
- Solution:
- 1. Browse for and remove any Blue Frog init strings
- 2. Install Blue Frog connection software again
- 3. Else, install your modem drivers again
- Error #718
- Error Message: The Remote Access server is not responding.
- Solution:
- 1. Check that your connection and network settings have correctly been configured
- 2. Ensure that the modem has been correctly set up and look for updated drivers
- 3. Set FIFO buffers to a lower speed and ensure that you have unchecked the option "Only connect at this speed"
- Error #676
- Error Message: Cannot register your computer on the remote network.
- Solution:
- 1. Try to check your network settings and modify your computer name
- 2. Install the network control panel again
- Error #635
- Error Message: The port is already in use or is not configured for Remote Access dialout.
- Solution:
- 1. Try to reboot your computer
- 2. Else, try to reinstall your modem drivers
- Error #634
- Error Message: Out of buffers.
- Solution:
- 1. Ensure that our port speed is not too low
- 2. Try to install your modem again
- Error #615
- Error Message: The port was not found.
- Solution: Try to install your modem drivers

- Error Message: An asynchronous request is pending.
- Solution:
- 1. Reboot your computer
- 2. Try to install your modem drivers again

- Error Message: The port or device is already disconnecting
- Solution:
- 1. Wait until your modem disconnects properly
- 2. If this operation is taking too long, reboot your computer
- Error #618
- Error Message: The port is not open.
- Solution:
- 1. Reboot your computer
- 2. Ensure that no other program is making use of the modem

- Error Message: The port is disconnected.
- Solution:
- 1. Reboot your computer

- Error Message: Invalid compression specified.
- Solution:
- 1. Try to reboot your computer
- 2. Else, add &K3 to the extra settings.
- 3. If this still does not solve the problem, add &K3
- 4. You can also try to reinstall the modem
- Error #614
- Error Message: The buffer is invalid.
- Solution:
- 1. Ensure that your port speed is set to low in the modem properties
- 2. In your "Port Settings", check that FIFO is not set to low
- 3. Reinstall the dialer again
- 4. Else, reinstall RAS/DUN
- 5. You should consult your computer manufacturer if the problem persists
- Error #611
- Error Message: An operation is pending
- Solution:
- 1. You should first try rebooting your computer
- 2. Ensure that no other program is using your modem
- 3. Else, press Ctrl-Alt-Delete and if RNAAPP loads, contact a technician to fix this problem
- 4. Make sure that your computer is Spyware free
- Error #601
- Error Message: The port handle is invalid
- Solution:
- 1. Select the modem's COM port and under the Diagnosis section, open "More Info". You should reboot your computer if you are able to get ATI responses, remove the erroneous init string or enter ATZ as the init
- 2. You can also reinstall your modem
- 3. Else press Ctrl-Alt-Delete and if RNAAPP loads, contact a technician to fix this problem
- 4. Your Dialup Networking should be reinstalled together with its components
- 5. Your modem might not be working properly. You should then consult your computer manufacturer
- Error #602
- Error Message: The port is already open
- Solution:
- 1. Try to reboot your computer
- 2. Ensure that no other program is using the modem
- 3. Else press Ctrl-Alt-Delete and if RNAAPP loads, contact a technician to fix this problem
- 4. Try uninstalling the AOL Adapters in the Network Control panel and reboot your computer. Install your Dialup Adapter again
- 5. Remove the erroneous init string or enter ATZ as the init
- 6. If you have Quicken 2000, deactivate the Quicken Download Manager
- 7. Try installing your modem again
- 8. Make sure that your computer is Spyware free
- Error #603
- Error Message: Caller's buffer is too small
- Solution:
- 1. Ensure that your port is not configured to a low speed
- 2. In your "Port Settings", ensure that FIFO is not set to low
- 3. Try reinstalling your Dialup Networking together with its components
- 4. If you are still having problems, contact your computer manufacturer

- Error Message: Wrong information specified.
- Solution:
- 1. Ensure that the are no outages in your area
- 2. Try to enter the username and password again
- 3. Set up the dialler again
- 4. Your Dialup Networking should be installed again together with its components
- 5. You can also try to reinstall your modem
- Error #605
- Error Message: Cannot set port information.
- Solution:
- 1. Ensure that the are no outages in your area
- 2. Try to enter the username and password again
- 3. Set up the dialler again

- Error #606
- Error Message: The port is not connected.
- Solution:

- 1. If this problem arises while dialling up to the internet, verify that the settings of the event log have been correctly set
- 2. Try rebooting your system and ensure that the dialler/network settings have been correctly configured
- 3. Else, install RAS/DUN again
- Error #608
- Error Message: The device does not exist.
- Solution:
- 1. Check that the right modem is set in the dialler
- 2. Ensure that you are using the right modem drivers by checking the modem diagnostics. If it's not the case, set up the correct drivers.
- 3. Reinstall the dialler
- 4. Your modem might not be working properly. Try reinstalling it
- 5. You should consult your computer manufacturer if the problem persists
- Error #609
- Error Message: The device type does not exist.
- Solution:
- 1. Check that the right modem is selected in the dialler
- 2. Ensure that you are using the right modem drivers by checking the modem diagnostics. If it's not the case, set up the correct drivers
- 3. Your modem might not be working properly. Try reinstalling it
- 4. You should consult your computer manufacturer if the problem persists
- Error #610
- Error Message: The system cannot find the specified device
- Solution:
- 1. Ensure that the right modem has been selected
- 2. If it does not respond, try to reinstall it
- 3. You can also try to reinstall NCP/DUN/RAS
- Error #71
- Error Message: No more connections are allowed
- Solution:
- 1. Someone else might have connected under your account
- 2. If you have been ghosted on the server, your Internet Service Provider can bump the ghost program off

- Blue Screens (BSOD):
- [spoiler]First of all, do not panic, it's a nice color! :P Anyway, it can happen to everyone so here are some 'quick' fixes to blue screens. *Note that some bluescreens are sadly unfixable*
- Determine if you changed anything recently for instance installed any (illegal) software or changed your hardware (settings). If so, change it back and see if this helped as that is most likely the issue.
- Check inside your PC for any loose cables, loose harddrives, loose screws anything loose really. Also check if you CPU, GPU, RAM, HDD, SSD etc... fans are working if you have those. Or check if you pump is working. Also check for any black marks as your PC could be fried due to moisture.
- Check your temperature using for instance SpeedFan. If they are anything above 60-70 on idle, it is most likely a heat issue. You can also check the temperature of your hardware in the BIOS
- Test your RAM, you can test your RAM by using a program named 'memtest86'. This is a free program which you can download online. You have to run it by burning it on a cd or to a bootable USB and then change the bootorder so memtest86 is first. If it says there are any Iterations (Iterations: 1) it is most likely caused by faulty RAM.
- Test your HDD/SSD. You can do this by running "chkds" function on your harddrive to scan for errors and maybe fix them.
- - Go to My PC and right-click the disk you want to scan and click on Properties.
- - From the properties screen select the Tools tab.
- - Click Check Now in the Error Checking section.
- You can also analyze the crash report, to do this, do the following:
- Set your computer to stop on a Blue Screen (BSOD).
- - Open your System Properties. (Press Windows+Pause/Break on your keyboard)
- - Click Advanced Setting.
- - Click the Settings button in the startup and recovery section.
- - Uncheck the "Automatically restart' option under "System Failure" and wait for the next (BSOD)
- Make note of the file and post it here on the LTT forums for someone to help you. There are too many error codes to put them all in here. :(

- Beep/Post codes for several BIOSes:

- 1-1-3 Your computer can't read the configuration info stored in the CMOS. Replace the motherboard.
- 1-1-4 Your BIOS needs to be replaced.
- 1-2-1 You have a bad timer chip on the motherboard. You need a new motherboard.
- 1-2-2/1-2-3/1-3-4/1-4-1 The motherboard is bad.
- 1-3-1/1-3-3 You'll need to replace the motherboard.
- 1-4-2 Some of your memory is bad.
- 2-_-_ Any combo of beeps after two means that some of your memory is bad, and unless you want to get real technical, you should probably have the guys in the lab coats test the memory for you. Take it to the shop.
- 3-1-_ One of the chips on your motherboard is broken. You'll likely need to get another board.
- 3-3-4 Your computer can't find the videocard.
- 3-4-_ Your video card isn't working. You'll need to replace it.
- 4-2-1 There's a bad chip on the motherboard. You need to buy another board.
- 4-2-2/4-2-3 First check the keyboard for problems. If nothing, you have a bad motherboard.
- 4-2-4 One of the cards is bad. Try yanking out the cards one by one to isolate the culprit. Replace the bad one. The last possibility is to buy another motherboard.
- 4-3-1/4-3-2/4-3-3 Replace the motherboard.
- 4-3-4 Time of day clock failure. Try running the setup program that comes with the computer. Check the date and time. If that doesn't work, replace the battery. If that doesn't work, replace the power supply. You may have to replace the motherboard, but that is rare.
- 4-4-1 Your serial ports are acting up. Reseat, or replace, the I/O card. If the I/O is on the motherboard itself, disable them with a jumper (consult your manual to know which one) and then add an I/O card.
- 4-4-2 See 4-4-1, but this time is your Parallel port that's acting up.
- 4-4-3 You math coprocessor is having problems. Run a test program to double-check it. If it is indeed bad, disable it, or replace it.
- Low 1-1-2 Your motherboard is having problems
- Low 1-1-3 This is an Extended CMOS RAM problem, check your motherboard battery, and motherboard.
- AMI BIOS Beep Codes:
- 2/3/4 Short Beeps:
- Your computer has memory problems. First check video. If video is working, you'll see an error message. If not, you have a parity error in your first 64K of memory. First check your SIMM's. Reseat them and reboot. If this doesn't do it, the memory chips may be bad. You can try switching the first and second banks memory chips. First banks are the memory banks that your CPU finds its first 64K of base memory in. You'll need to consult your manual to see which bank is first. If all your memory tests good, you probably need to buy another motherboard.
- 5 Short Beeps:
- Your motherboard is complaining. Try reseating the memory and rebooting. If that doesn't help, you should consider another motherboard. You could probably get away with just replacing the CPU, but that's not too cost-effective. Its just time to upgrade!
- 6 Short Beeps:
- The chip on your motherboard that controls your keyboard(A20 gate) isn't working. First try another keyboard. If it doesn't help, reseat the chip that controls the keyboard, if it isn't soldered in. If it still beeps, replace the chip if possible. Replace the motherboard if it is soldered in.
- 7 Short Beeps:
- Your CPU broke overnight. Its no good. Either replace the CPU, or buy another motherboard.
- 8 Short Beeps:
- Your video card isn't working. Make sure it is seated well in the bus. If it still beeps, either the whole card is bad or the memory on it is. Best bet is to install another video card.
- 9 Short Beeps:
- Your BIOS is bad. Reseat or Replace the BIOS.
- 10 Short Beeps:
- Your problem lies deep inside the CMOS. All chips associated with the CMOS will likely have to be replaced. Your best bet is to get a new motherboard.
- 11 Short Beeps:
- Your problem is in the Cache Memory chips on the motherboard. Reseat or Replace these chips.
- 1 Long, 3 Short Beeps:
- You've probably just added memory to the motherboard since this is a conventional or extended memory failure. Generally this is caused by a memory chip that is not seated properly. Reseat the memory chips.
- 1 Long, 8 Short Beeps:
- Display / retrace test failed. Reseat the video card.
- IBM Post Codes:
- 2 short beeps:
- POST Error - error code shown on screen
- No Beep:
- Power supply or system board problem
- Continuous beep (who thought this was a good idea...):
- Power supply, system board, or keyboard problem.
- Repeating short beeps:
- Power supply or system board problem
- 1 long, 1 short beep:
- System board problem
- 1 long, 2 short beeps:
- Display Adapter problem (MDA, CGA)
- 1 long, 3 short beeps:
- Enhanced Graphics Adapter (EGA)
- 3 long beeps:
