  10. Part 1
  11. I will ask you to come to the front of the room and look at a few compounds through the spectroscope. Draw the brightest lines that you observe on the charts below. You will use these to help you identify your unknown compounds.
  12. Part 2
  13. Visit each lab station and take a wooden splint from each of the solutions and insert it into the hot part of the bunsen burner flame. Observe the color of each solution and record your observations in the data table below.
  14. For 2 of the splints, record the color of the spectral lines from the spectroscope.
  15. Once you have completed all of the known solutions, you may try the three unknown solutions. The procedure is the same as for the knowns. Try to identify the metals that the unknown solutions contain.
