- [13:49:17] Krekian: cg you wanna try working in mitchi somehow around here. Maybe before gmpost?
- [13:49:44] Krekian: Like, oh hey I'm roofjumping and this guy appeared
- [13:49:51] Krekian: bluh
- [13:50:06] CannonGerbil: and add more stuff to the scene?
- [13:50:10] CannonGerbil: nah
- [13:50:12] Krekian: Yes
- [13:50:18] CannonGerbil: the scene is already overcrowded as it is
- [13:50:26] Krekian: Mreh.
- [13:50:38] CannonGerbil: right now I'm thinking of him popping up in the middle of the battle
- [13:50:56] CannonGerbil: like, mitchi saving yozora during the final fight or something
- [13:51:10] CannonGerbil: then everyone can react to the monkey after the youma is dead
- [13:51:22] CannonGerbil: I'll think on it
- [13:51:23] Krekian: Righto.
- [13:51:33] CannonGerbil: but it seems decent right now
- [13:51:43] Krekian: Yeah, so mitchi has combat applications now?
- [13:51:50] Krekian: Did you work out stats and such?
- [13:51:56] Krekian: Or just fluff,
- [13:53:59] CannonGerbil: nah, I'm thinking of just fluffing it as defense
- [13:54:16] CannonGerbil: or alternatively binding status effect
- [13:54:35] CannonGerbil: either that, or mitchi spots an attack coming from the opposite direction
- [13:54:37] CannonGerbil: something like that
- [13:54:52] CannonGerbil: depends on how the battle plays out, but yeah, I think it could work
- [14:00:26] Krekian: alright.
- [14:14:37] Crasian: Alright what news
- [14:15:02] CannonGerbil: not much has changed
- [14:15:10] CannonGerbil: got a better plan for introducing mtichi now
- [14:15:21] CannonGerbil: otherwise we are timeskipping after this
- [14:16:53] Crasian: What's your plan?
- [14:17:05] CannonGerbil: have him show up mid youma battle
- [14:17:19] CannonGerbil: at a critical juncture or something, near the end
- [14:17:30] Krekian: morning cras
- [14:17:39] CannonGerbil: then once the youma is defeated everyone can react to it
- [14:17:40] Krekian: my internet just died and was reborn
- [14:18:50] CannonGerbil: ah
- [14:19:02] CannonGerbil: how's everything?
- [14:19:35] Krekian: its still dying on and off
- [14:19:43] Crasian: Hey Krek
- [14:19:49] Crasian: @Cannon: I see
- [14:24:58] Crasian: I feel like I should have further thoughts on the matter
- [14:25:24] Crasian: But honestly I'm currently lacking in any sort of motivation to attempt to streamline the RP
- [14:25:35] Crasian: Or whathave you
- [14:26:01] CannonGerbil: well, it's not finalized yet, and alot of it depends on how the battle goes
- [14:26:31] CannonGerbil: like, if it is a drawn out big boss type fight mitchi will pop up pretty late in the hunt
- [14:26:57] CannonGerbil: but if it is more of a puzzle boss mitchi will probably pop up pretty early to help with things
- [14:27:11] CannonGerbil: can't really tell in advance, so...
- [14:27:22] Crasian: I just grow irritated at lack of explosions
- [14:27:46] Crasian: Also Masaki keeps facepalming in the background
- [14:28:05] CannonGerbil: yeah, me too
- [14:28:14] Crasian: "These are the reasons we don't jump into combat you idiots " <-- Masaki's esponse to nearly every single post so far
- [14:28:18] CannonGerbil: this scene was supposed to be a quick transition scene
- [14:28:32] CannonGerbil: not a "hoshi screws up again, everyone react"
- [14:28:55] CannonGerbil: followed by a "another magic is strange/awesome" moment
- [14:30:00] Crasian: Silver Lining: It gets more of the exposition out of the way
- [14:30:14] Crasian: At least this way it's not a huge mess of exposition in the middle of combat
- [14:31:05] CannonGerbil: eh, but still
- [14:33:01] Crasian: Well look, if you want do a more tightly planned RP, I'm in favor, but we've had this argument before
- [14:33:13] Crasian: Large tracts of stuff that you think are important I think are useless
- [14:33:30] CannonGerbil: yeah, I guess, and I didn't catch the issue when the idea was first proposed either
- [14:35:14] Crasian: Like, I think I said this before
- [14:35:29] Crasian: if you'd asked me what to do, I'd have skipped this youma entirely
- [14:35:53] Crasian: Or rather pushed it back 24 hours
- [14:36:05] CannonGerbil: I was in favour of that too
- [14:36:16] Crasian: And do a scene with everyone going "Look at what I found out about my magic!" in the club room
- [14:36:24] CannonGerbil: but then everyone wanted to get a combat scene out
- [14:36:28] CannonGerbil: therefore this happened
- [14:36:50] CannonGerbil: hell, cras, you were here for the vote, no?
- [14:36:52] Crasian: Well you wanted to do something about Mitchi
- [14:37:05] Crasian: Something about Mitchi jumping some bitches at lunch the next day
- [14:37:15] CannonGerbil: yeah, I though I could fit it into the clubroom
- [14:37:23] CannonGerbil: but then there's way too many things already going on
- [14:39:10] CannonGerbil: but, yes, mitchi needs to happen before the end of today
- [14:39:31] Crasian: <waves arms>
- [14:39:45] Crasian: Like, I don't see why that's useful to you
- [14:39:51] Crasian: What's the Goons At Lunch scene for?
- [14:40:13] CannonGerbil: character establishment, plot threads and plot hooks
- [14:40:35] CannonGerbil: basically, it's to establish her carefree attitude to magic usage
- [14:41:29] CannonGerbil: plus, the goons are a loose plot thread
- [14:41:36] Krekian: Yeah I gave up. Using Mobile internet now
- [14:41:44] Krekian: Crappy but works. Hi
- [14:41:54] CannonGerbil: hey panda
- [14:42:00] Krekian: So yeah.
- [14:43:03] CannonGerbil: Yozora and the crew did hit them pretty hard back at the mall, they'll be looking for payback
- [14:44:03] CannonGerbil: plus, do you really not see how the girls magicailly retatlating agaisnt a bully would be interesting?
- [14:46:50] Crasian: Not really
- [14:47:03] Crasian: It's basically just ROFLstomp followed by "Ufufufufu, you have no power here~"
- [14:47:11] CannonGerbil: uh, no
- [14:47:20] Crasian: And showing off Yozora's "lolmagic" can be accomplished in innumerable other ways
- [14:48:45] CannonGerbil: yes, but the bullies are a loose plot thread, and it also allows yozora to demonstrate that character trait at the same time
- [14:49:26] Crasian: Why do they matter?
- [14:49:57] CannonGerbil: because they played a pretty big role in the Hoshi plotline
- [14:50:19] CannonGerbil: and it's pretty much set up that they will come back with a vengence
- [14:50:34] CannonGerbil: you know, narrative conventions and all that
- [14:50:54] Crasian: Thats a terrible reason
- [14:50:58] Crasian: And besides
- [14:51:17] Crasian: In Railgun, Kuroko totally beats up several goons
- [14:51:30] Crasian: They swear they'll get her next time
- [14:51:40] Krekian: huh
- [14:51:42] Krekian: okay, anyway.
- [14:51:42] Crasian: And are never seen again
- [14:51:49] CannonGerbil: ...that's not what happened, cras
- [14:51:50] Crasian: Goons say that shit, it's a thing
- [14:52:21] Krekian: I do have plans to have someone visit during lunch on day 2
- [14:52:44] Krekian: mr. creep specifically
- [14:53:25] CannonGerbil: yeah, we know that, that's why I had the plan in the first place
- [14:53:47] Krekian: uh. gonna ask cras.
- [14:53:52] Krekian: what are you expecting to happen
- [14:54:23] Crasian: misc.
- [14:54:35] Crasian: Literally, just misc.
- [14:54:40] Krekian: uh, not about the goons. but plotwise
- [14:55:20] Krekian: like, character interaction is the whole thing.
- [14:55:26] Krekian: Uh.
- [14:55:29] Krekian: Fuck
- [14:55:52] CannonGerbil: character simulation is a significant portion of any MB game, yeah
- [14:56:09] Krekian: yeeeeeeeeeah but once you get into simulation territory it gets weird tooo
- [14:56:24] Krekian: falls down the slope of, then why dont we simulate everything else
- [14:56:35] Krekian: mruh
- [14:56:41] Crasian: If we do character simulation I'm leaving
- [14:56:47] CannonGerbil: that's why narrative conventions exist
- [14:56:53] Crasian: Character simulation is absolutely not useful or interesting
- [14:57:02] Crasian: Yes let's have characters interacting endlessly!
- [14:57:03] CannonGerbil: ...cras, you run an MB game
- [14:57:05] Krekian: uh
- [14:57:09] Crasian: Oh look randomly a youma!
- [14:57:12] CannonGerbil: what the fuck?
- [14:57:15] Crasian: Five turns later oh look it's dead!
- [14:57:24] Krekian: 2-3 turns on average
- [14:57:34] Crasian: Okay
- [14:57:36] Crasian: Sure
- [14:57:37] Crasian: Point is
- [14:57:39] Krekian: I'm not helping!
- [14:57:40] Krecart: I don't think the turns were the point
- [14:57:42] Crasian: More conflict is good
- [14:57:53] Crasian: Character interaction inevitably is just heads talking
- [14:57:55] Krekian: Yeah, but okay. This is kinda of a big deal.
- [14:57:57] Crasian: Also Soap Opera Drama
- [14:58:16] Krekian: Like, expectations.
- [14:58:44] CannonGerbil: uh, cras, what exactly were you expecting when you joined this game?
- [14:59:07] CannonGerbil: because I seriously have no idea at this point
- [14:59:14] Crasian: I expected Not Soap Operas
- [14:59:24] Crasian: Avoid Soap Opera, obtain Plot
- [14:59:41] Crasian: Soap Operas bore me, I've seen them ten million times
- [14:59:48] Crasian: "Oh but she loves the other guy!"
- [15:00:00] Crasian: "SUDDENLY LOVE TRIANGLE"
- [15:00:01] CannonGerbil: ...
- [15:00:41] CannonGerbil: (facepalm)
- [15:00:44] Krekian: Yeah, okay. How about people falling apart and supporting each other.
- [15:00:59] Krekian: Also I'm going to need a definition of plot.
- [15:01:15] Crasian: I need to go to work
- [15:01:18] Crasian: Well
- [15:01:19] Krekian: Later cras
- [15:01:19] Crasian: School
- [15:01:29] Crasian: So sorry I can't actually continue this discussion
- [15:01:37] Crasian: Fwiw, Cannon, your facepalm is not helpful
- [15:01:49] Crasian: "Falling apart and supporting each other" is also really vague
- [15:02:10] Crasian: Soap opera territory includes that in spades, after all.
- [15:03:21] CannonGerbil: let me put it this way, what you describe as soap opera stuff? That's about half of what every MB game is
- [15:04:27] * Krecart forgot he doesn't have work today. Was almost out the door. Carry on :V
- [15:04:28] CannonGerbil: the other half varies depending on the game, KrekMB seems to have a greater focus on mystery solving and meguca politics
- [15:04:33] CannonGerbil: heh
- [15:04:44] Krekian: Oh man that would have sucked.
- [15:04:50] Krekian: Grats?
- [15:05:01] Krekian: Well, now you are clean. That is a good thing for fluffies to be.
- [15:06:36] Crasian: On 6/3/15, at 9:03 AM, CannonGerbil wrote:
- > let me put it this way, what you describe as soap opera stuff? That's about half of what every MB game is
- Yeah okay, and is it endless spiraling "and then Plot Twist!!1!ONE! :D :D :D :P"
- [15:06:51] CannonGerbil: ...uh, no
- [15:06:55] Crasian: Because I'm honestly serious when i say i-- okay
- [15:06:58] CannonGerbil: think more slice of life stuff
- [15:07:14] CannonGerbil: seriously, cras, you run an MB game
- [15:07:20] CannonGerbil: how do you not know this?
- [15:07:32] Crasian: I have a very clear view of what I want out of Pirategucas
- [15:07:45] Crasian: Largely in the sense that I've been told to stop trying
- [15:07:57] Crasian: Which pisses me off but hey, players want what they want
- [15:07:58] CannonGerbil: the majority of almost every MB game is going to consist of character interactions and personal sideplots
- [15:08:37] Crasian: Pirategucas is intentionally structures around the assumption that it will play like Skyrim
- [15:08:42] Crasian: *structured
- [15:08:53] Crasian: As in I made a plot, and the plot is approachable at any time from any angle
- [15:09:36] Crasian: I can shift timelines around without any issue, and all the plot tension occurs within closed arcs inside of each Main Quest Event.
- [15:10:16] Crasian: If you want to do other stuff, that's fine, it doesn't actually change anything in the main story, because the conflicts are completely divorced from the characters.
- [15:10:33] Crasian: Now if that's the case here, then we're all good and the discussion can be closed near permanently
- [15:10:55] Crasian: But my impression is that this is a more Sherlockian Plot, in which case the character drama is absolutely not the main focus, ever.
- [15:11:22] CannonGerbil: cras, this is an RP, not a story
- [15:11:33] Daniel Cotillo: ^
- [15:11:34] CannonGerbil: there can be more than one main focus in an RP
- [15:11:47] CannonGerbil: and the focus frequently shifts in phases
- [15:11:50] Daniel Cotillo: There will be character interactions.
- [15:12:02] Daniel Cotillo: Is part of what a RP means.
- [15:12:30] Daniel Cotillo: And it boggles my mind that you didn't consider that, Cras
- [15:12:46] Crasian: Look there are character interactions in literally everything written
- [15:12:48] Daniel Cotillo: Also, hi. You guys talk a lot so fuck reading logs.
- [15:12:59] Crasian: "There will be character interactions" = "There will be words"
- [15:13:06] Crasian: Of course there's going to be character interaction
- [15:13:25] Crasian: If there was no character interaction it'd be the one head floating in space mumbling to itself
- [15:13:31] Crasian: Which is also boring as fuck
- [15:14:03] Daniel Cotillo: Yeah, but don't say we're ditching your plot because of it (because that's what I got when you said "what we as players want")
- [15:14:19] Daniel Cotillo: Because we're not.
- [15:14:35] Crasian: Fine, sorry
- [15:14:39] Crasian: I don't mean to insult you
- [15:15:33] Crasian: It's just
- [15:15:37] Crasian: It's been six fucking months
- [15:15:41] Crasian: More like 7
- [15:15:47] Crasian: We have literally walked onto a boat
- [15:15:53] Crasian: Part of this is you guys post damn slowly
- [15:16:13] Crasian: Most of this is that Pirates posts damn slowly
- [15:16:32] Crasian: But you could also be posting about plot relevant stuff and hashing out how you guys will interact on the side
- [15:16:46] Daniel Cotillo: Dude, I'm done with Carmen until someone else (Ginny or Azura or Elvira) wants to bring something else.
- [15:16:51] Crasian: Or hell, it actually makes more story-telling sense if you're unfamiliar with each other and :| because you don't trust anyone else
- [15:17:04] Daniel Cotillo: Rook's been busy with life, and soon it will be Ugo.
- [15:17:17] Crasian: I'm not saying that this is fundamentally wrong
- [15:17:25] Daniel Cotillo: Remember, you also have been busy with life and we waited for you.
- [15:17:33] Crasian: You can hash out the char-inter earlier if you want
- [15:18:21] Crasian: Yes well, that's fair
- [15:18:27] Crasian: I'm just frustrated with Pirates
- [15:18:27] CannonGerbil: i'm getting the distinct feeling that this is deeper than me
- [15:18:34] Crasian: So I apologize
- [15:18:47] CannonGerbil: so, I'mma go head off and watch a giant robot get it's ass kicked by two girls
- [15:18:53] CannonGerbil: seeya in abit
- [15:20:38] Daniel Cotillo: I get you're frustrated, Cras. I would be the same if I was the GM of a game no one posts. But they give legitimate reason so I would have to respect it. We didn't forget pirates. We're just too damn busy.
- [15:20:41] Krecart: [9:18:49 AM] CannonGerbil: so, I'mma go head off and watch a giant robot get it's ass kicked by two girls
- <<< Man, that shouldn't be as vague a statement as it is.
- [15:20:51] Daniel Cotillo: And you're fine Cras. Don't worry.
- [15:21:31] Crasian: Regarding this RP
- [15:21:35] Crasian: As in Krekgucas
- [15:21:37] Daniel Cotillo: Heading off to read sky.
- [15:21:40] Daniel Cotillo: Almost there.
- [15:21:51] Crasian: Actually no
- [15:21:52] Daniel Cotillo: And the cyborg arc is looking good so far :D
- [15:21:55] Crasian: I need to go to school
- [15:21:56] Crasian: bye
- [15:22:05] Daniel Cotillo: See ya Cras.
