  1. I've run 4 NYC Marathons in the last 5 years. I know firsthand how great of an event it is for New York City. With this perspective, I have to question the logic of running the race THIS weekend. Currently there are still bodies being discovered where the marathon begins: Staten Island. Over 20,000 people who don't even live in the US will be protected during by NYC police officers while there is still looting of damaged businesses occurring in all 5 boroughs. My sister is trapped in Brooklyn, the second stop on the Marathon, as there is no subway, no available cabs, the buses are free (and thus too full to get on), and the gas stations have no gas. Many in Brooklyn still have NO HEAT. In Lower Manhattan, where there is also no power, people are DIGGING THROUGH DUMPSTERS TO FIND FOOD. Yet the fucking Marathon is a priority.

  3. As a long time member of NY Roadrunners, I am appalled that its current president, Mary Wittenberg, is putting her arrogant interests ahead of the those of suffering New Yorkers. In fact, this stupidity is just the most recent blunder of a myopic organization she presides over. Shame on you, Mary Wittenberg.
