  46. Go onwards and upwards- Excelsior!
  47.
  48. This was the prophecy engraved on a slab of stone found deep underwater on one of Anthony Hartford's explorations with his son, Mack. Jammed into the stone, in a deep recess covered by the stone, a massive tome was found bearing an inscription- "Lineage of Lemuria." Such a rare find was obviously of note to the minds behind Operation: Overdrive, and so they contacted a number of archaeologists and antiquarians known through the Hartford museum's work around the world.
  49.
  50. Enter Rory Gwrtheyrn, an archaeologist specializing in fringe theories... that often turned out to have some credence. His most notable work so far was on the culture of the Grongi and the parallels between then-cryptid Ultraman and the God of Noa worshipped by Baradhi. While most of the archaeologists didn't respond or assumed some sort of hoax, Rory jumped on the chance- not only to work on such an incredible finds, but to get 'in' with a family of experienced adventurers. He worked tirelessly to examine it, and a number of things revealed themselves about the slab and its contents.
  51.
  52. First, it didn't like being probed. Hands, mechanical equipment, sticks, anything that reached for the book ended up getting smashed by closing stone. The team was stumped. However, naturally, they weren't the only party interested in the slab. After a time, a monstrous Megid attacked the lab, seeking both the "Sword of Crowns" and the book in the slab. While most of the crew fled rather than face the creature, Rory stood firm, getting brutalized. As Mack became the Red Ranger once again to fight the creature, driving it off of the archaeologist, Rory panicked. He couldn't let that monster get the book, or whatever sword it was after. While the slab was of immense, immeasurable value, it was more important to keep its contents safe.
  53.
  54. So he lifted it overhead, and smashed it on the ground.
  55.
  56. Within the rubble, he found the massive tome and a stone device- the Sacred Stonedriver. As he scrambled to pick it up, it sprang to life, latching onto his waist- sending him into a panic, and the Megid into a rage, charging him. Grabbing the book and pressing it to his stomach to flee, he was shocked as it attached themselves to the plinth.
  57.
  58. "LIEGE OF LEMURIA! An ancient civilization, bursting with power, wages war!"
  59.
  60. As soon as it finished this call, a massive hilt poked out from the book. Grabbing it as firmly as he could, he pulled it free, as the driver trumpeted out a fanfare, golden light exploding from the stone.
  61.
  62. "***AND SO OUR TALE BEGINS!***
  63. ***LEMURIA, GREATEST OF EARTH'S FOUR NATIONS, WELCOMES ITS CHAMPION!***
  64. ***ALL HAIL... BASTARD!***
  65.
  66. There was a beat as he, the Megid, and Mack processed what just happened- and why he was wielding a massive, golden sword decorated with jewels. Fortunately, he was the first to act, cutting across the Megid's chest as the belt called out "ALL HAIL!". A pitched battle between the Megid and the present heroes ensued. Of course, wanting to protect ancient artifacts, Rory took more than a few hits as he dove between the Megid and ancient pottery. It was a pitched battle, but eventually, the heroes prevailed...
  67.
  68. ...leaving Rory to try and explain how the tablet was destroyed to the museum's board of trustees. Thankfully, the Hartfords spoke up on his behalf, assuring them that it was an act by the monster. Clearly unsatisfied by the answer, the board let it go. For now, he maintains his work at the museum and engages in frequent field work, taking him on trips around the world in search of similar artifacts to the Golden Sword Excelsior, and the mysterious book that came with it- chronicling the bloodline of a long-gone civilization up to its apparent demise.

  71. Misc
  72. Trivia: Rory's title refers to the "Bastard Sword", a generic classification of swords too long to be wielded one-handed but too short to qualify as two-handed weapons.
  73. Quote:
  74. "It belongs in a museum!"
  75. "Honestly at this point it might be easier to keep track of what civilizations aliens *didn't* fuck with."

  79. Stormbringer Prophecy:
  80. some shit about impending doom and how you best put that thing back where it came from. Corruptive influence countered by Zubaan's inherent JUSTICE
  81.
  82. Backstory switches to being attacked at a dig site, panics and grabs the sword, when he wakes up the monster's dead and so are most folks at the camp.
