- 6:54
- OTMJohn
- nice
- 6:55
- Permafry_42
- i end up getting 5-6 hours of sleep each day, and then at some point crash during the evening
- 6:55
- Cheeseness
- Syd: Did you end up playing more?
- 6:55
- FhqwhSGDQ [Mibbit@hide-32D22149.dip0.t-ipconnect.de] entered the room.

- Cheeseness: is this how I address people by name in this thing?
- 6:55
- OTMJohn
- (ah, it is)
- 6:56
- Syd
- Not yet, ended up being a bit busy earlier today, which was when I intended to play more of it.
- 6:56
- FhqwhSGDQ
- stopped watching SGDQ for this
- 6:56
- Syd
- Hey FhqwhSGDQ
- 6:56
- Cheeseness
- Hey FhqwhSGDQ
- 6:56
- Syd
- Do both at the same time, multitask!
- 6:56
- Cheeseness
- Oops, yeah, OTM_Danielle
- 6:56
- FhqwhSGDQ
- my connection will not hold up for that
- 6:57
- medacris [Mibbit@hide-24F82FF0.nycmny.fios.verizon.net] entered the room.
- 6:57
- Cheeseness
- Hey medacris
- 6:57
- FhqwhSGDQ
- have enough troubles with only one stream
- 6:57
- Permafry_42
- gotta love sgdq. a lot of amazing people playing amazing games is always fun to watch
- 6:57
- FhqwhSGDQ is now known as Fhqwhgod
- 6:57
- medacris
- Hey, Cheese. Sorry for being away for awhile.
- 6:57
- OTMJohn
- sgdq?
- 6:57
- Cheeseness
- It's cool ^_^
- 6:57
- medacris

- Summer Games Done Quick
- 6:57
- Syd
- That one game they did, Metal Wolf Chaos I think it was called? That was one of the most ridiculous things I've ever seen, heh.
- 6:57
- OTMJohn
- ahh
- 6:57
- Permafry_42
- the metroid speedruns are my favourites
- 6:58
- Fhqwhgod
- I am the president of the United States of America
- 6:58
- Syd
- SGDQ is a speedrunning thing for charity, they're raising money for Doctors Without Borders.
- 6:58
- medacris
- I wish Metal Wolf Chaos had been ported to the US.
- 6:58
- Fhqwhgod
- and they are on their last day
- 6:58
- OTMJohn
- oh nice!
- 6:58
- Cheeseness
- OTMJohn: I was going to ask a couple of days ago, but forgot. Are you interested in stickying the Game Club thread in the Steam forums?
- 6:58
- Fhqwhgod
- right now they are running Half-Life 2
- 6:58
- OTMJohn
- Doctors Without Borders is a nice charity man
- Oh, good idea
- i'll go stick it now

- Alrighty, pushing the stream live
- 7:00
- Syd
- Twitch needs to put The Fall in their games database. I had tried to set it as the game being played but it's just not there.
- 7:00
- Cheeseness
- No title card today (apologies for that ^_^ )
- I know, right
- 7:00
- OTM_Danielle
- I contacted Twitch to get it added
- 7:00
- Cheeseness
- And Hitbox
- 7:00
- OTM_Danielle
- Just awaiting them to get it done
- 7:00
- Cheeseness
- I was going to suggest that after the stream
- Ah, sweet
- Danielle is always on the ball
- 7:01
- OTM_Danielle
- I have my fingers in many pies
- 7:01
- Cheeseness
- Tell me when you guys can see the stream
- 7:01
- OTMJohn
- good lord, now I have to try to figure out how to stick this thing
- 7:01
- Cheeseness
- Ha ha
- 7:02
- OTMJohn
- Done!
- 7:02
- medacris left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
- 7:02
- Cheeseness
- Oh whoops. I've got the wrong stream key in there >_<
- Two secs
- 7:02
- OTMJohn
- Now I just have to remember to unpin it
- 7:02
- medacris [Mibbit@hide-24F82FF0.nycmny.fios.verizon.net] entered the room.
- 7:02
- medacris
- I can't see the stream yet
- 7:02
- Syd
- Cheeseness is fixing it
- 7:02
- OTMJohn
- Neitehr can I!
- 7:02
- Syd
- He had the wrong stream key set.
- 7:03
- OTMJohn
- oh lawl
- I think I will get a beer. Don't tell anyone.
- 7:03
- Cheeseness
- Alrighty, let's try that again
- 7:03
- Permafry_42
- k its on
- 7:03
- Syd
- It's live
- 7:04
- Cheeseness
- No title card today
- 7:04
- yama_
- Aww.
- 7:04
- Cheeseness
- Hope I said your name right, OTM_Danielle
- 7:04
- OTMJohn
- nice, we're connected
- 7:04
- yama_
- That's the only reason for why I come here; To hear Cheeseness' voice.
- 7:04
- Cheeseness
- heh
- 7:04
- OTMJohn
- hmm we're actually not getting audio over here
- 7:04
- Permafry_42
- btw i like the tittlescreen
- yeah looks like audio isn't on
- 7:05
- Syd
- I'm not getting audio either
- 7:05
- medacris
- Odd, I get no audio either
- 7:05
- Cheeseness
- Alrighty, let me fix the audio. I see what's happening
- 7:05
- OTMJohn
- I can't hear Cheese's beautiful vocalizations
- 7:05
- liorean
- Hmm. This stream is missing a quality control for some reason, usually Twitch has one of those! And no audio
- 7:05
- Syd
- You need to be a partner with Twitch to get quality options if you're under something like 50 viewers
- 7:05
- Cheeseness
- Yeah
- 7:05
- Syd
- Once you get to around that number, the options kick in
- 7:05
- Cheeseness
- Should have audio now
- Let me know if we don't
- 7:06
- Syd
- Yep, there's audio
- 7:06
- Permafry_42
- k its working
- 7:06
- OTM_Danielle
- Roger that
- 7:06
- OTMJohn
- yeah we're good
- 7:06
- Permafry_42
- nice sound design
- 7:06
- OTMJohn
- Thanks! my audio guy is fantastic
- 7:06
- yama_
- Cheese!
- 7:06
- Cheeseness
- \o/
- Enjoy!
- 7:06
- OTMJohn
- Hi!
- 7:07
- OTM_Danielle
- Howdy!
- I do all things social, marketing and help keep John fed so he can make the game.
- 7:07
- OTMJohn
- What a friendly guy. you'd have no idea he's running on 4 hours of sleep
- 7:07
- Cheeseness
- Ha ha, he prerecorded it before he went to bed
- 7:07
- Permafry_42
- the subtle glitches in the text are great too
- 7:07
- OTMJohn
- OH! lol
- brilliant
- 7:08
- kisak
- that's some interesting glyph corruption, was it supposed to do that?
- 7:08
- Cheeseness
- Yeah, I remember when they were added in - I thought they were fantastic but wanted to check that they weren't actually glitches
- 7:08
- Syd
- We had encountered an odd bug last night while Cheeseness was testing his streaming setup. The combat bot outside of the repurposing facility activated but then just stood there, so the combat music was stuck.
- 7:08
- Fhqwhgod
- Spiderman!
- 7:08
- OTMJohn
- Interesting.
- 7:08
- Cheeseness
- I'm playing an older build though
- 7:08
- OTMJohn
- yeah there's still a few bugs related to the combat music
- OH! really
- 7:08
- Sven_Q45 [Mibbit@hide-4DA91BCD.dip0.t-ipconnect.de] entered the room.
- 7:09
- Syd
- Hey Sven_Q45
- 7:09
- Cheeseness
- Yeah - new mouse stuff doesn't play nicely with streaming for me
- 7:09
- Sven_Q45
- hi
- 7:09
- OTMJohn
- (and yes, the visual glitchy stuff should be intentional)
- Hey Sven
- 7:09
- liorean
- I get about one frame every other second... but audio seems smooth and fine
- 7:09
- OTMJohn
- so this is the old mouse system we're looking at eh
- 7:09
- medacris
- I really like this so far.
- 7:10
- Sven_Q45
- Anyone remember the question about a gone home retai? This week I preordered it.
- 7:10
- Permafry_42
- i like the addition of little fireflies and small lighting effects
- 7:10
- OTMJohn
- Gone home retail?
- cheers!
- 7:10
- Sven_Q45
- Yes.
- 7:10
- OTMJohn
- I wanted to do all sorts of little plans snapping at you, etc, but we just ran out of time
- **Plants
- 7:11
- Permafry_42
- ah sweet did they including anything special in it like the super meat boy retail version?
- 7:11
- Schmuppinger [Mibbit@hide-BEAFE251.unity-media.net] entered the room.
- 7:11
- Cheeseness
- Hey Schmuppinger
- 7:12
- OTMJohn
- Hey Cheese, do we get to hear your glorious voice in this one, or do you stay silent
- 7:12
- Schmuppinger
- hi Cheeseness :>
- 7:12
- Schmuppinger
- and all the others, of course
- 7:12
- OTMJohn
- Hey man!
- 7:12
- Syd
- We usually do these things longplay-style, without voice over.
- 7:12
- Cheeseness
- I love the glimpses we get of the shadowy character in the background
- 7:13
- OTMJohn
- cheers.
- 7:13
- Cheeseness
- Yeah, if we don't have voice over, then everybody gets equal voice in chat
- 7:13
- Permafry_42
- the idea is that we do most of the chatting in a chat box while we watch the gameplay
- 7:13
- Sven_Q45
- Permafry _42 http://www.adventurecorner.de/news/5212/gone-home-collectors-edition-erscheint-naechste-woche
- 7:13
- OTMJohn
- we actually had a different character here originally (Cheese, you probably remember) but when we went through and cleaned upa the writing, it made a bit more sense to have one main "badguy" through all of this
- 7:13
- Cheeseness
- I do!
- 7:13
- Permafry_42
- that way all of us get to talk together
- 7:13
- Babar left the room (quit: Quit: ).
- 7:14
- Cheeseness
- I might end up doing a stream and talking over the top about stuff that I personally like/dislike at some stage in the future though
- 7:14
- yama_
- Is this game made in 2D or 3D? Looks 2D to me but Kentucky Route Zero first fooled me into think it was 2D, too...
- 7:14
- Cheeseness
- This sequence is great
- 7:14
- OTMJohn
- 3d!
- 7:14
- yama_
- Ohh.
- 7:14
- OTMJohn
- I want to do more stuff with that ascii screen effect in the next game
- never got to play with it much
- 7:15
- Cheeseness
- I still feel like that crane movement is too fast to feel weighty
- 7:15
- Permafry_42
- that gone home collector's edition looks fantastic. I hope it comes to canada as well
- 7:15
- OTMJohn
- yeah, the game is 3d, but rendered with a camera with a very small field of view. most of the environment is 2d cards and such
- 7:15
- OTM_Danielle
- I've seen it called 2.5D places
- But that may just be game critics being fancy
- 7:15
- Mimness [Mibbit@hide-BDC870AD.lns20.hba1.internode.on.net] entered the room.

- OTMJohn
- Hey Mim!
- 7:15
- yama_
- Good morning, Mimness.
- 7:15
- Permafry_42
- i like the idea of a sidescrolling p&c. what made you come up with the idea?
- 7:16
- Mimness
- Morning everyone! ^w^
- 7:16
- Permafry_42
- morning mimi
- 7:16
- OTMJohn
- ah, I'm just a nerd and like those two genres. I really loved Metroid, but I always wanted a bit more interactivity.
- 7:16
- Cheeseness
- Which aspects did you find most interesting from Metroid?
- 7:17
- Sven_Q45
- Permafry_42 I don´t think so. But ater you can buy it on Ebay I think.
- 7:17
- Sven_Q45 left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
- 7:17
- OTMJohn
- the emotional feeling of exploration, actually. not a lot of other stuff comes through, I think.
- 7:17
- Sven_Q45 [Mibbit@hide-4DA91BCD.dip0.t-ipconnect.de] entered the room.
- 7:17
- Syd
- It's interesting to play from the perspective of an AI that has to follow its own version of the laws of robotics.
- 7:17
- Cheeseness
- Totally. The plot is super compelling
- 7:17
- OTMJohn
- Syd, are you into sci-fi?
- 7:17
- Sven_Q45
- oops.
- 7:17
- Syd
- Yeah, I like sci-fi.
- 7:18
- Permafry_42
- i have a us postal address, so i might have to use that to get it. Assuming I can afford the collector's edition, of course
- 7:18
- Sven_Q45
- Wel
- 20 Euros.
- 7:18
- OTMJohn
- for Gone Home collector's edition?
- 7:18
- Permafry_42
- i like the way the ai don't have any emotion in their voice even when their character shows signs of emotion in the choice of words
- othjohn yep
- *otmjohn
- 7:19
- OTMJohn
- Yeah, I'm really glad I had a guy to help direct the voice acting there
- I think it would have been better to have no voice than bad voice
- 7:20
- OTM_Danielle
- Hiring Caleb Allard was a real strike of genius.
- 7:20
- Mimness
- Whoops, Cheese forgot the blood
- 7:20
- OTMJohn
- Oh no. worst backtracking problem in the game by far
- if you forget the GD blood
- 7:20
- Cheeseness
- Actually, it's good, I think. If you couldn't do that, you'd spend a lot of time not exploring
- 7:21
- OTMJohn
- hmm perhaps
- 7:21
- Cheeseness
- But for speedruns or walkthroughs, sure
- 7:21
- Permafry_42
- backtracking kinda makes metroidvanias what they are imo
- 7:21
- OTMJohn
- people totally ripped into The Cave for that issue
- 7:21
- Syd
- Some people get really grumpy about backtracking though.
- 7:21
- OTM_Danielle
- It's a pain when you feel like it's for no purpose
- 7:21
- OTMJohn
- yeah
- 7:22
- OTM_Danielle
- But I like having a chance to see more of the environment if there is something changing
- 7:22
- Cheeseness
- ;_;
- 7:22
- OTMJohn
- what do you all think about this recent subject of how games are being dumbled down here and there
- dumbed*** dumbledore has nothing to do with it
- 7:22
- Cheeseness
- That's recent?
- 7:22
- kisak
- NNOOOOO MURDERER
- 7:22
- Permafry_42
- I think there's a right way and a wrong way to simplify
- 7:22
- Mimness
- The bit here where is says press left mouse to fire should probably say hold left mouse to fire
- 7:22
- Syd
- It was interesting to talk to Ron about The Cave back when we did that game. I think his reasoning was that he felt that backtracking was a normal part of adventure games, though I could be misremembering.
- 7:23

- PETA^
- 7:23
- OTM_Danielle
- but they can be a pita
- 7:23
- liorean
- Backtracking feels, to me, like it's really good as a mechanic only in the cases that you can be pretty much certain that it's not in vain as a player. I hate when I have to try backtrack for hours before I finally figure out that the quest is bugged in some games.
- 7:23

- Pita bread.
- 7:24
- Permafry_42
- if you simplify for the sake of making the game have less challenge, it doesn't work. but if you simplify the game so that what makes is challenging is more immediate to understand, then it can benefit the game
- 7:24
- Mimness
- 7:24
- OTM_Danielle
- If you guys want to hear more from Cam Jarvis (our sound designer), you can following him on twitter here: https://twitter.com/SingularSound
- 7:24
- OTMJohn
- hmm yeah perhaps so
- 7:24
- Permafry_42
- i like the choice of adding a lazer pointer to the gun
- 7:24
- Cheeseness
- Too much direction undermines exploration
- 7:24
- OTMJohn
- permafry, i think that's right
- getting clear what your challenge is is probably key
- yeah, if exploration is one of your goals
- 7:25
- Cheeseness
- It was with this game though, right?
- 7:25
- OTMJohn
- yyeeaup
- 7:25
- Cheeseness
- ^_^
- 7:26
- Mimness
- I don't mind backtracking if it makes sense, say, if later on I realise I need something I passed earlier. So long as I understand the necessity it's okay. In The Cave though, if you want to play with all the characters you have to play 4 times, which means if you backtrack you could end up doing some parts 8 or more times...
- 7:26
- liorean
- Yay, frames are back to, if not normal, at least not-entirely-unwatchable level for me now
- 7:26
- OTMJohn
- I tried to muck with the tutorials and such to get rid of some of the challenges that I didn't think had much to do with the core gameplay, but other than that..
- 7:26
- Cheeseness
- I think that The Cave's backtracking would have been less painful if there had've been more content to explore
- 7:27
- GameClubFan_100391 left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
- 7:27
- Syd
- For me, the part in The Cave that felt like it had too much backtracking was the mineshaft area, I didn't mind the rest too much.
- 7:27
- Permafry_42
- did i mention yet that i love the ascii ui design of the menus?
- 7:27
- OTMJohn
- yeah, I'm not a huge fan of the mineshaft area, but for the most part, I didn't mind The Cave's backtracking
- 7:27
- Cheeseness
- Yeah, sorry liorean. The combination of my system and my internet connection make some parts of this game a bit low frame rate for streaming
- 7:27
- OTMJohn
- Thanks Permafry_42! I apprecieate it
- 7:28
- Cheeseness
- I think the mineshaft area could've been made more enjoyable with a couple more points of interest though
- 7:28
- yama_
- The framerate is okay here.
- 7:28
- Syd
- The reason there was no title card for this session is because Cheeseness switched to a different streaming method to improve framerate.
- 7:28
- OTMJohn
- I love that gui they have on the computers on the original Alien flick
- 7:28
- Syd
- It would have been way choppier if he used his normal streaming software.
- 7:28
- OTMJohn
- interesting
- 7:29
- Cheeseness
- Oh hey, I avoided that cover problem we had last night, Syd
- 7:29
- liorean
- I've heard Australia hasn't got the best set of internet options...
- 7:29
- Mimness
- Shooting the poor little flimsy skinny robots...
- 7:29
- OTMJohn
- nice shot.
- 7:29
- Cheeseness
- Cheers
- 7:29
- OTMJohn
- you've played this game before I see
- 7:29
- Cheeseness
- 7:29
- OTMJohn
- once or twice
- 7:29
- OTM_Danielle
- I'm not sure if Cheeseness or I could claim most playthroughs for the non-developer
- 7:30
- OTM_Danielle
- What I mean to say is, I am not sure who is winning
- 7:30
- Mimness
- Haha
- 7:30
- Cheeseness
- Ha ha, I'm over 30 now
- 7:30
- OTMJohn
- wow
- 7:30
- Cheeseness
- "Your honesty is our integrity" - is that a reference to something?
- 7:30
- Syd
- Looks like Cheeseness has 34.3 hours logged on Steam.
- 7:30
- OTM_Danielle
- Snap. Well, I think I'm beat.
- 7:30
- Cheeseness
- Plus another 20 hours before steam I reckon
- 7:31
- OTMJohn
- I don't believe so - Caleb just thought it sounded like a bullshit corporate line
- 7:31
- OTM_Danielle
- "Your honesty is our integrity" - very appartchnik like.
- 1984 and all that
- 7:31
- OTMJohn
- unfortunately he's off working right now or he could comment himself
- 7:31
- Cheeseness
- I have to say, I'm pretty envious of Caleb. He had a great premise to play around with, and I love the way he pulled it together
- OTM_Danielle: Yeah
- 7:31
- Syd
- Sounds like a line that tries to put liability on anyone but themselves.
- 7:31
- liorean
- Steam play times aren't entirely accurate. I have 15h for a game I have only started once and had to quit using the task manager because no inputs worked...
- 7:32
- OTM_Danielle
- "Political language... is designed to make lies sound truthful and murder respectable, and to give an appearance of solidity to pure wind" - orwell
- 7:32
- Cheeseness
- It was great to watch the tone of the game evolve during development as the writing got fleshed out
- 7:32
- OTMJohn
- cheers. yeah
- yeah a lot of the ideas were there but they weren't quite coming through
- 7:32
- Mimness
- After all the "AI" talk, I sort of found the way this guy talks kind of refreshing.
- 7:32
- OTMJohn
- man.. getting help. super important.
- 7:32
- Cheeseness
- liorean: For this game at least, it's pretty accurate for me (I've also spent time finding/reproducing issues identified by the community)
- 7:32
- OTM_Danielle
- Caleb aced the interview... our 2012 D&D campaign. I admit, it took me longer than I'd like to share to suggest John collaborate with him
- 7:33
- medacris
- He has a Cecil Baldwin-kind of enthusiasm.
- 7:33
- Cheeseness
- Ha ha
- Did "Morley" come from anywhere?
- 7:33
- OTMJohn
- Yeah Cheese here as been fantastic
- 7:33
- OTMJohn
- Good question. I never asked him
- Josephs did for sure
- but not Morley, I think
- 7:34
- Mimness
- What's Josephs a reference to?
- 7:34
- OTMJohn
- we're just both interested in christian iconography
- hense all the crosses
- I thought it was pertinent to the themes surrounding protocol and institution, etc
- We love the idea of putting that in without being all heavy-handed with it
- 7:35
- Cheeseness
- Yeah, they're a good touch
- 7:35
- OTMJohn
- cheers. the original version was a looott more heavy handed and somewhat tacky
- 7:35
- Cheeseness
- Is the Administrator's face a distorted version of somebody you know?
- 7:35
- OTMJohn
- actually, for the most part, it's a kickstarter backer!
- hehe but I haven't told him
- 7:35
- Cheeseness
- 7:36
- Permafry_42
- lol
- 7:36
- OTMJohn
- he's one of the guy's who's face is in the video
- 7:36
- Mimness
- Ha!
- 7:36
- Cheeseness
- Ahh
- 7:36
- OTM_Danielle
- There are a few more Kickstarter backers faces further on too.
- 7:37
- OTMJohn
- the Droid's skins are Kickstarter backers as well..
- 7:37
- Syd
- That's the droid that got stuck and caused the combat music to keep playing during the test stream, but looks like he's behaving this time.
- 7:37
- OTMJohn
- whew.
- 7:37
- Mimness
- Interesting gender role stuff happening here - the female combat droid has to "follow the rules" by pretending to be domestic
- 7:37
- Cheeseness
- Isn't the first one that we see the one that was on the Kickstarter page to begin with?
- 7:37
- OTMJohn
- yeah the combat music not turning off is a bug that I'm having a hell of a time reproducing enough to find wtf is going on
- 7:37
- Cheeseness
- I'll try to avoid this time
- 7:37
- OTMJohn
- nope! that original one went in the trash!
- 7:37
- Cheeseness
- It's to do with pressing cloak late, I think
- 7:38
- OTMJohn
- interesting!
- 7:38
- Cheeseness
- I've been able to reproduce it. We can fiddle with it later in the week if you want
- 7:38
- medacris
- I noticed that too, Mim.
- 7:38
- OTMJohn
- Mimness - cheers! we're really interested in poking at some of that stuff
- 7:38
- Cheeseness
- Atmosphere!
- 7:39
- Mimness
- Yay! I'm really interested in games that like poking some of that stuff :3
- 7:39
- OTMJohn
- it seemed more appropriate that ARID be female
- 7:39
- medacris
- It's something I like to see more. Always love a good female protag.
- 7:39
- OTMJohn
- One of the things I'm thinking of is giving the player a choice to give her a more phisical female form, if they'd like, liker on
- 7:39
- OTM_Danielle
- It's nice to have a female protagonist who is powerful for something other than her breast size
- Lara Croft, I'm looking at you
- 7:39
- Cheeseness
- She inhabits her pilot's avatar though
- 7:40
- OTMJohn
- yeah! hehe
- I think it'll work as she begins to gain her own identity
- 7:40
- Cheeseness
- So in some ways her physical form is ambiguous at most, I think
- Yeah - once she's gained her own sense of self, that will carry better (I'm really looking forward to that stuff)
- 7:41
- OTMJohn
- Cheers, me too
- I'm excited to see if we can find some interesting stuff to do with choice as well
- maayybbeee even do something in the whole transgender theme?
- like total choice of who you are or something??
- 7:41
- Mimness
- Yeah I think it would be interesting to let people choose, but I also like that the shape of her body has very little bearing at this point
- 7:41
- OTMJohn
- yeah agreed
- I think it's more restrictive at this point
- 7:41
- Cheeseness
- I love that players come up against the same hurdles here with regards to moving past the restrictions of her programming as Arid is
- 7:42
- OTMJohn
- because she's basically stuck in this hyper-masculine suit
- 7:42
- Permafry_42
- I'm still a fan of the bmo view of gender
- 7:42
- OTMJohn
- Cheers Cheese. you think that comes accross?
- 7:42
- OTMJohn
- whats that, Permafry?
- 7:42
- liorean
- BMO?
- 7:42
- Cheeseness
- I'm not certain whether people get that on their first playthrough, but I totally do!
- 7:42
- OTMJohn
- haha well that's a step in the right direction
- 7:42
- Permafry_42
- as in bmo from adventure time. Bmo doesn't have a gender to begin with even though bmo's voice actor is female
- 7:43
- OTMJohn
- ahh interesting
- 7:43
- liorean
- Never seen adventure time
- In fact, until last AF, I had never heard of it
- 7:43
- Mimness
- It's not that hyper-masculine, in my opinion. I mean, Starcraft seems to feature some hypermasculine, stupidly enormous suits...
- 7:43
- Permafry_42
- it's a pretty good kids show. Not as good as Avatar the last airbender, but still a good show
- 7:44
- OTMJohn
- huh that's interesting Mim
- Airbender is fucking amazing
- honestly one of the best stories re: character development I've seen
- 7:44
- Mimness
- John, can you tell us anything about the picture in the background?
- 7:44
- Permafry_42
- did you watch korra last night? otmjohn?
- 7:45
- Cheeseness
- I'd like to think that upon reflection, players will appreciate that you have to manoeuvre Arid to circumvent her restrictions
- 7:45
- OTMJohn
- I haven't watched any Korra yet! only the first season
- 7:45
- liorean
- Blizzard has a very strong male power fantasy - female sexuality fantasy focus for all their games, though World of WarCraft actually has had that influence reduced as it aged. But the rest of the games have it for sure
- 7:45
- OTMJohn
- hahaha Cheese is pointint the picture out
- 7:45
- Cheeseness
- Cheese always points the picture out
- 7:45
- OTMJohn
- well why does he think of it then!?
- 7:46
- Mimness
- liorean: Oh yeah.
- 7:46
- OTMJohn
- (i'm very curious to see if you know what it is!)
- 7:46
- Cheeseness
- Is it a Terminator?
- 7:46
- OTMJohn
- good guess
- http://sphere.fredrikmeyer.net/wp-content/uploads/6a00d83451ccbc69e2010536198df6970c-400wi.jpg
- 7:46
- Cheeseness
- Oh, nice
- I don't think I'd seen that cover
- 7:47
- Permafry_42
- I definitely liked avatar more than korra, but season 3 is definetely becoming more avatar like. Still it's miles better than the majority of kid-focused shows
- 7:47
- OTMJohn
- neither had i!
- 7:47
- Cheeseness
- You always have to try shooting the baby
- 7:47
- OTMJohn
- Yeah Permafry, that's probably true. I have so much respect for good writing
- 7:47
- OTM_Danielle
- Although, Reboot was a pretty brilliant kids show
- 7:47
- OTMJohn
- (yeah, we might make shooting that baby an achievement)
- 7:47
- liorean
- I loved Reboot in my teens
- 7:48
- Cheeseness
- Ha ha
- 7:48
- OTM_Danielle
- Perhaps it didn't make it out of Canada, but I found it really thoughful as a young'un
- Nothing close to Avatar, but good all the same
- 7:48
- Syd
- Reboot aired in the US, I remember watching it.
- 7:48
- Permafry_42
- recently i've been watching jacob two two as well. another great canadian kids show that the rest of the world never saw
- 7:48
- OTMJohn
- I remember watching Beast Wars a lot (or "Beasties" in Canada, because they couldn't use the word "wars")
- 7:48
- Permafry_42
- i haven't seen reboot though
- 7:48
- liorean
- In fact, I really missed reboot when it ended and they failed to get season 5 funded by any of the approached networks
- 7:48
- OTMJohn
- Jacob two two was a great series of books
- ah, shows getting canceled is the worst
- BTW_ if you guys haven't watched "Hannibal".... fuck
- so good.
- 7:49
- Mimness
- Yes. Yes you should totally make shooting the baby an achievement. You could call it "Maternal"
- 7:49
- OTM_Danielle
- The art direction alone is worth watching
- 7:49
- medacris
- Isn't Reboot coming back?
- 7:49
- OTMJohn
- I heard a rumour of that
- hahah that's a great idea Mimness
- 7:50
- Permafry_42
- Stickin' Around is amazing too from an animation point of view
- 7:50
- OTM_Danielle
- Mimness thats how some of our friends with littles feel sometimes
- 7:50
- liorean
- Not only did they fail to get reboot season 5 going, but they failed multiple times to get the planned full length films funded as well
- 7:50
- OTMJohn
- "Great instincts" as a hint maybe?
- 7:50
- Cheeseness
- I didn't notice until yesterday that the coin has a sparkle on it. When did that go in?
- 7:50
- medacris
- I understand the feeling, but I don't know if I would have shot the baby.
- 7:50
- OTMJohn
- should have been in since V1
- 7:51
- Mimness
- OTM_Danielle: Haha! Yeeeeeeah.
- 7:51
- Cheeseness
- Littles are the best
- 7:51
- liorean
- Medacris: We've heard that news about a half dozen times now. I'll believe it when I see the reruns of it in the TV listings...
- 7:51
- medacris
- @liorean: I know, I know...
- 7:51
- OTMJohn
- I need some other ideas for achievements actually..
- 7:51
- OTM_Danielle
- Medacris - I'm only being inflammatory. Our friends with a 4 month old leave us with her and 2 cans of guiness when we babysit
- 7:52
- Cheeseness
- I might have some ideas
- 7:52
- Mimness
- The closer we get to them the more we get treated like them. Great line.
- 7:52
- Permafry_42
- so that would mean reboot... *puts on sunglasses* is getting a reboot *YEEEEEEEAH!*
- 7:52
- OTMJohn
- you know they're always welcome!
- thanks!
- 7:52
- Cheeseness
- I'll bring them up during the week
- 7:52
- OTMJohn
- hahha Permafry
- that'd make a good patch
- maybe 5-10 more achievements + some commentary
- 7:52
- Cheeseness
- I like the insinuation here that the Administrator thinks that Arid might be malfunctioning
- 7:53
- OTMJohn
- haha yeah. this went through a few iterations. Caleb made it nice
- 7:53
- medacris
- @OTM_Danielle: It's okay. I don't blame you.
- 7:53
- OTMJohn
- I like that he tiptoes around her ego
- 7:53
- Cheeseness
- I think commentary could be really interest
- ing
- 7:53
- Permafry_42
- i love the subtle coolness to his speech like "totally"
- 7:53
- OTMJohn
- We could have you talking about all the linux bugs
- 7:54
- Cheeseness
- I like that it's dated coolness though
- He still feels a little out of touch
- 7:54
- OTM_Danielle
- 1983 coolness
- 7:54
- OTMJohn
- The actor that played that mainframe ai is super tallented
- (they all were really)
- 7:54
- Cheeseness
- OTM_Danielle: Exactly!
- 7:54
- liorean
- I don't like games that place normal game progression events as achievements. I'm of the mind that all achievements should be things that you have to go out of your way in the regular gameplay to achieve - either that, or they should be skill based.
- 7:54
- Mimness
- 1983 is the best kind of coolness
- 7:54
- OTMJohn
- hehe he used to be even more out of date actually.
- 7:54
- Permafry_42
- yeah i like the idea of achievements as easter eggs
- 7:55
- medacris
- Mm.
- 7:55
- Permafry_42
- but not as either pointless tasks or progression reminders
- 7:55
- medacris
- I'll have to check this out if it's on Mac.
- 7:55
- OTMJohn
- liorean - it's a good point. we thought we should have a few to give a little feedback that you're progressing and let people know that there ARE acheivements
- 7:55
- Cheeseness
- The door to the lab could do with an interaction marker like the diagnostics door downstairs did
- 7:55
- Permafry_42
- medacris its on humblestore and steam
- 7:55
- OTMJohn
- medacris - it is!
- 7:55
- Syd
- Achievements that are actual achievements are nice, really clever ones can be motivational
- 7:55
- OTMJohn
- Cheese - which?
- 7:55
- Cheeseness
- Yum
- 7:56
- OTMJohn
- Speaking of which, I still have to patch the Military Machine achievement. forgot about that one
- apparently we've got an achievement in the game that's next to impossible
- 7:56
- medacris
- @Permafry_42 @OTMJohn: Awesome. Onto the wishlist it goes.
- 7:56
- OTM_Danielle
- 2 more days left in the Steam sale...
- 7:56
- OTMJohn
- Oh, our sales are picking up slightly btw
- maybe because of Giant Bomb?
- 7:57
- Mimness
- I have no problem feeding that child a head.
- 7:57
- Permafry_42
- btw do you guys know when you'll be able to have the humblestore version of the game go on sale? I would rather have the humble version since some day i think linux os will become the norm
- 7:57
- Cheeseness
- OTMJohn: The upstairs door next to the tag reader could do with an interaction point to help people recognise that that's an area to look out for later
- 7:57
- kisak
- hey dad! what's for dinner? Robot: Meat
- 7:57
- Cheeseness
- Permafry_42: It's on Steam for Linux as well
- 7:57
- Syd
- "Nom nom nom!"
- 7:57
- medacris
- "Num num num!"
- 7:57
- Fhqwhgod left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
- 7:57
- Mimness
- Yummy nutritious face meat.
- 7:57
- OTM_Danielle
- My favourite
- 7:57
- OTMJohn
- Cheesseness: Good idea
- 7:58
- Permafry_42
- ah. didn't know that
- 7:58
- medacris
- And Giant Bomb is fantastic, especially with indie games.
- 7:58
- Cheeseness
- But Humble's accountless DRM free stuff is better IMO
- 7:58
- Permafry_42
- still drm free is always preferable
- 7:58
- Permafry_42
- cheeseness agreed
- 7:58
- OTMJohn
- Not 100% sure when a Humble Store Sale will happen, but it will happen!
- 7:58
- Mimness
- I love the num num num! That cracked me up. I hope this whole area was supposed to be darkly humorous, and I'm not just a psychopath... O_o
- 7:58
- yama_
- Looks interesting enough. I'll buy the game later when the Steam sale is over.
- 7:58
- OTM_Danielle
- John and I often check each other to make sure we're not psychopaths
- 7:58
- Cheeseness
- You are just a psychopath
- 7:58
- OTM_Danielle
- Dark humour is allowed
- 7:58
- OTMJohn
- hahaha yeah Mimness, it was
- 7:59
- Permafry_42
- awesome. I'll be sure to get the game and play it then. I'd get it now but as a university student i'm pretty much always broke
- 7:59
- psymin
- I'm really enjoying this game, thanks for suggesting it
- 7:59
- OTMJohn
- ah, being broke
- 7:59
- Cheeseness
- 7:59
- liorean
- I usually have a preference of GOG DRM Free > Humble Bundle DRM free > Steam > Origin/UPlay/etc.
- 7:59
- Mimness
- OTM_Danielle: Sounds like you guys have a good set up. Provided you don't both turn at the same time.
- 7:59
- medacris
- The psychopathic moments are funny, though.
- 7:59
- Cheeseness
- When GOG launches Linux support, they'll probably become my preference as well
- Take first, read later
- 8:00
- OTMJohn
- GOG turned me down by the way
- (I'm not bitter though)
- 8:00
- medacris
- I usually opt for Steam, but GOG has been great so far
- 8:00
- Cheeseness
- Aww, really?
- 8:00
- OTMJohn
- hehehe maybe again in the future if I can provbe I have some sales
- 8:00
- liorean
- Did GOG motivate their refusal?
- 8:00
- OTMJohn
- motivate?
- 8:01
- liorean
- Did they give a reason why they refused, or just say that you were?
- 8:01
- Mimness
- The community could harrass, ahem, I mean request The Fall on GOG by starting a request thread?
- 8:01
- Cheeseness
- I *really* *really* want to use the severed hand to push the elevator and console buttons
- 8:01
- OTMJohn
- hahaha
- 8:01
- OTM_Danielle
- Mimness - Go forth!
- 8:01
- Mimness
- He does. He talks about it all the time.
- 8:01
- Cheeseness
- Yeah, their feature/game request and voting system helps I think
- 8:02
- OTMJohn
- liorean - worried that it wouldn't appeal to their core audience
- 8:02
- Syd
- GOG turned down Dominique Pamplemousse because they thought it wouldn't be a good fit for GOG.
- 8:02
- OTMJohn
- Dominique Pamplemousse?
- 8:02
- Mimness
- Cheese is sad that it doesn't say that the speaker is sticking out of the kid's bum anymore.
- 8:03
- medacris
- Oh, btw, what were the inspirations for the game? Asimov? Star Trek? Alien?
- 8:03
- Cheeseness
- All of the above, I suspect D
- 8:03
- OTMJohn
- yup!
- 8:03
- Syd
- OTMJohn: It was an adventure game that was Kickstarted, focuses a lot on gender issues from what I've heard.
- 8:03
- OTMJohn
- Alien was the biggest visual influence
- interesting Syd, I'll have to take a look
- actually
- the guys over at Alien: Isolation made an interesting video about the GUI elements in their game
- 8:04
- Permafry_42
- the fog reminds me of limbo a little
- 8:04
- OTMJohn
- i was amazed to see it because they share my inspiration almost exactly
- yeah Limbo, sorry - in terms of the environments, was a huge inspiration
- 8:04
- Syd
- The Alien game coming up looks pretty promising. It's nice to see something that's a bit more Alien than Aliens.
- 8:05
- Cheeseness
- When you were on SteamLUG Cast, you mentioned that the Asimov/laws of robotics aspect turned out to get more attention than you expected. What do you think of audiences influencing creativity in game development?
- Because you picked up on that and ran with it right?
- 8:05
- OTMJohn
- yeah totally
- and I'm totally down with that stuff
- actually, I think that part of The Fall's problem is that it's not as immediately readable in the storefront as say, a first person shooter
- people who like it offer up ways of interpereting what it is-- that kind of stuff has been helpful to me. actually, we were thinking of going further away from the "rules" thing, but we stayed there because it's something that people know, like, and can understand
- 8:06
- Permafry_42
- oh yeah are you looking forwards to inside from playdead?
- 8:07
- Cheeseness
- It's tricky to pitch. Talking about Metroid implies more platforming/action than there is, and talking about Monkey Island implies a different style of interaction (though fans of both might appreciate the game without those expectations)
- 8:07
- OTMJohn
- I'm totaly interested in what playdead does ^_^
- 8:07
- Cheeseness
- Ah, I'm not being fast enough here. Did you end up making this longer, John?
- 8:07
- OTMJohn
- yeah agreed, Cheeseiness
- 8:07
- Permafry_42
- yeah same. I like the orwellian feel of it
- 8:07
- medacris
- LIMBO is one of the most recently visually arresting indie games, and it works well for a space game like this, so well done.
- 8:07
- Cheeseness
- If you don't skip dialogue, it becomes pretty tight
- 8:07
- OTMJohn
- making what longer?
- 8:08
- Mimness
- OTMJohn: I feel like the "rules" gave it a solid start. It is a good, familiar launching point.
- 8:08
- Cheeseness
- The baby timeout
- 8:08
- yama_
- Just looked at the Steam page for The Fall and wondering if all three parts were funded with Kickstarter or if you're hoping the game will sell well enough to fund the remaining parts.
- 8:08
- Schmuppinger left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
- 8:08
- medacris
- I do think you can see Metroid and Monkey Island influence in here, though it's very much its own thing.
- 8:08
- Mimness
- Yay! The baby!
- 8:08
- OTMJohn
- thanks medacris! Mimness - cheers , I think so too
- 8:08
- Cheeseness
- I might finish up the stream there
- 8:08
- OTMJohn
- oH!! hmm... I think I added 5 seconds
- 8:08
- Cheeseness
- But by all means continue chatting
- 8:08
- kisak
- baby is the weakest link, goodbye
- 8:09
- OTMJohn
- yama_ we were hoping that yes, but it looks like we'll be okay to make the other ones
- I made a safe enough gamble and it seems that we'll be just okay.
- 8:09
- yama_
- That's cool.
- 8:09
- OTM_Danielle
- Kickstarter is a brilliant way to test if the market wants what you think they will like
- 8:09
- Mimness
- Yay! More Fall!
- 8:09
- OTMJohn
- ah! what happened? you quit out?
- 8:09
- medacris
- @OTMJohn: No problem! Thanks to you and @OTMDanielle for making such an awesome game.
- 8:09
- Permafry_42
- i love subtle creepiness in a game world; it always makes it feel more engaging
- 8:10
- Cheeseness
- Yeah, the eerie atmosphere is awesome
- 8:10
- OTMJohn
- oh! first session cheers
- 8:10
- Permafry_42
- thanks to everyone coming and to cheese for streaming
- 8:10
- OTMJohn
- ah fun times
- 8:10
- Syd
- I gotta head out, thanks for joining us John and Danielle!
- 8:10
- yama_
- Red Thread Games just the other day decided to make Dreamfall Chapters be released in chapters and people are as upset about it as they were with DF splitting DFA into two parts and Revolution making BS5 a two-parter as well. >.>
- 8:10
- Cheeseness
- I always feel hampered when I'm streaming - it's hard to balance attention between the game and chat
- 8:10
- OTMJohn
- Ah cheers Syd, this was a lot of fun
- 8:10
- liorean
- Thanks guys, and thanks for the stream!
- 8:11
- OTM_Danielle
- Ciao Syd!
- 8:11
- Syd left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
- 8:11
- OTMJohn
- yeah I'll bet
- 8:11yama_ *pat pat* Cheeseness
- 8:11
- yama_
- You did well. ^^
- 8:11
- Cheeseness
- For anybody who's interested, I wrote a review which covers my experiences with The Fall starting with being fascinated by the Kickstarter pitch and going through to ending up getting a small credit on the game http://steamcommunity.com/id/cheeseness/recommended/290770/
- 8:11
- medacris
- Thanks all, I gotta go for a sec
- 8:11
- Cheeseness
- Aww, thanks yama_
- Cheers medacris
- 8:12
- OTMJohn
- yeah hehe it's the most helpful review
- 8:12
- Cheeseness
- I've been told that it's a good review a couple of times, but it feels more like a story to me ^_^
- 8:12
- OTMJohn
- hahah i suppose yes
- 8:12
- Permafry_42
- If there's any words that describes cheese best, its "most helpful"
- 8:12
- yama_
- Thanks for the link, Cheeseness. I'll read it in a bit.
- 8:13
- OTMJohn
- hahah it's true
- 8:13
- Cheeseness
- OTMJohn: Do you feel that future installments will be easier to develop following the work that's been done on this first game?
- 8:13
- OTM_Danielle
- And if you lovely folks want to keep up with us, we're on twitter at https://twitter.com/overthemoongms and facebook at https://www.facebook.com/OverTheMoonGames
- 8:13
- Cheeseness
- Aww
- 8:13
- OTMJohn
- I think absolutely they'll be easier
- yeah I think we're going to have some fun
- I've got a few crazy ideas
- 8:13
- Cheeseness
- It's pretty exciting
- 8:13
- OTMJohn
- but we should be able to focus on art and gameplay this time around, without having to wory so much about scripting a whole pile of back end
- 8:14
- Cheeseness
- Right
- 8:14
- yama_
- Has the overarching story been finished or is that still a work in progress?
- 8:14
- Cheeseness
- Are there any aspects of the game/mechanics that you feel you'd like to continue to refine?
- 8:14
- OTMJohn
- the general story has been laid out in terms of the character progression but there's a lot of wiggle room. I hope ep2 will top ep1 in terms of creativity
- yes! the combat
- 8:14
- Permafry_42
- oh yeah what engine does the fall run on?
- 8:14
- OTMJohn
- the combat is a bit meh
- Unity
- 8:14
- Cheeseness
- Also of interest, I've interviewed John on SteamLUG Cast a couple of times. The archive of the most recent one isn't up (should be here soon), but his first appearance from last year can be found here https://steamlug.org/cast/s01e10
- 8:14
- OTMJohn
- I'm even tempted to hire a designer for the combat
- 8:15
- Permafry_42
- ah makes sense. unity is great for games like this
- 8:15
- OTMJohn
- yeah that's always a good time
- Unity is fantastic, I recomend it to anyone
- 8:15
- Cheeseness
- Ha ha, actually combat was involved with what I mentioned before the stream. Glad to hear it's something that you feel still has potential to go farther
- 8:15
- OTMJohn
- yeah absolutely
- 8:15
- Permafry_42
- Apparently after learning a java variant called processing, sfu teaches the rest of the undergrad courses with unity
- 8:16
- psymin
- I told administrator I'm not up with being domestic, am I boned now?
- 8:16
- OTMJohn
- it's a tricky thing in general.. Combat is something that's basically there just to break up monotony and make the game feel tense a bit
- 8:16
- Cheeseness
- psymin: Nah, you can't dead end yourself in this game aside from dying (that I know of)
- 8:16
- OTMJohn
- psymin nope! you actually have to purposely fail that conversation a few times to pass the puzzle
- i hate dead ending in adventure games
- 8:16
- psymin
- ahh, whew
- 8:17
- Cheeseness
- psymin: In fact, that part you're on is where I started talking about the restrictions placed on the player mirroring the restrictions that Arid has
- In an adventure game context, you'd think that "boned" would be a good thing. I can't think of a single time where I've come across a bone that wasn't useful
- 8:17
- OTMJohn
- oh, the conversational stuff, right
- I'd like to play with that in ep. 2 as well...
- 8:18
- yama_
- Like using bones to push buttons?
- 8:18
- Cheeseness
- Monkey Island 2's jail scene springs to mind
- 8:18
- OTMJohn
- haha sorry no, mirroring player challenges with the character's challenges
- 8:18
- yama_
- 8:18
- Cheeseness
- I'm interested to see what Arid ends up valuing in part 2 - what an individual values says a lot about who they are. At this point, Arid values nothing but the safety of her pilot
- 8:19
- OTMJohn
- yeah
- yeah we've got a few options
- gotta construct somethingggg
- 8:19
- Cheeseness
- If Arid is in part 2 (ooooh, was that a spoiler? Or misdirection? \o/)
- 8:19
- yama_
- Was there any indication of the pilot's gender in the game so far? (Sorry, I'm bad at paying attention sometimes.)
- 8:20
- Cheeseness
- I need to get the strings off you at some point, John
- 8:20
- OTMJohn
- Strings?
- 8:20
- Cheeseness
- I keep wanting to say there's not, but I'm not 100% certain
- 8:20
- OTMJohn
- yeah I thinkkk we mentioned that the gender is male, but I'm not sure
- now that you mention it...
- 8:20
- Cheeseness
- If there is, it's only once
- 8:20
- OTMJohn
- yeah
- 8:21
- OTM_Danielle
- The pilot is mentioned as a he.
- 8:21
- yama_
- Ah-ha.
- 8:21
- Cheeseness
- And I keep forgetting to look when I'm testing
- 8:21
- OTM_Danielle
- I think so.
- but I've seen the game through so many times, it's hard to remember
- 8:21
- OTMJohn
- yeah
- 8:21
- OTM_Danielle
- definitely later he is mentioned as 'Josephs'
- 8:21
- Mimness
- I always just assumed Josephs was a masculine name. Which is stupid, really.
- 8:21
- Cheeseness
- Well, it's the character's last name, I assume
- 8:21
- OTMJohn
- yeah it's the last name
- but we did have the intention that he's male
- if it's not written in stone in ep1 it could change???? but probably not
- 8:22
- yama_
- Okies.
- 8:22
- Cheeseness
- If it's ambiguous in the work, that's kinda cool
- We'll have to look out for it during the next session
- 8:22
- OTMJohn
- haha yeah
- 8:22
- yama_
- I'll probably not be able to make it to the next session. *sad*
- 8:22
- OTMJohn
- 8:23
- Mimness
- It was probably a combination of things that just made me assume her pilot was male - Josephs making me think of the male name Joseph, the masculine suit, etc
- 8:23
- Cheeseness
- Aww, yama_
- 8:23
- OTMJohn
- right yeah
- 8:23
- yama_
- I'll just have to play the game myself and read the chat lot at a later date.
- 8:23
- OTMJohn
- and the other ARID has a female pilot
- 8:23
- Mimness
- yama_: Yes yes! Play the game!
- 8:23
- yama_
- lot = log
- 8:24
- medacris
- Awh, yama, do you want us to keep you up to date with what happens?
- 8:24
- Mimness
- OTMJohn: Really? Does the sad dude whose power core she nicks have a female pilot?
- 8:24
- yama_
- medacris, naw, but thanks for asking.
- 8:24
- OTMJohn
- yeah!
- 8:25
- Mimness
- How did I miss that! My mind is blown. I'm doing a PhD in gender studies at the moment. I should quit.
- 8:25
- medacris
- And aw, The Fall doesn't have a TVTropes page yet. Just one on the band, TV show, and film of the same name. Gotta make a page for that and Crypt of The Necrodancer.
- 8:25
- Cheeseness
- The other suit doesn't mention that its pilot was female does it?
- 8:25
- medacris
- Nah, s'okay, Mim. And yeah, but briefly, Cheese.
- 8:25
- OTMJohn
- haha you flatter us Mimness
- TVTropes? i'll have to look into it
- yeah it does!
- 8:26
- Cheeseness
- Ah, OK
- 8:26
- OTMJohn
- my pilot has been unresponsive gor 10 hours (or what ever) -- she is dead
- 8:26
- Cheeseness
- Note to self: pay more attnetion
- And speel more bettr
- 8:26
- liorean
- TV Tropes, destroyer of lives... or at least, eater of time
- 8:26
- OTMJohn
- haha
- 8:26
- Cheeseness
- Yeah, now that you mention it
- 8:26
- OTMJohn
- Mimness - we tried to do some interesting stuff with gender actually, but we weren't sure how it was going to be recieved
- 8:26
- Mimness
- Ohhhhhhhh yeah. I was paying more attention to the somewhat flippant way he says that line. Very unemotional compared to how passionate ARID is about her pilot.
- 8:27
- yama_
- Wasn't it like 25 minutes or something? Made me feel sad hearing it that it had happened such a short while ago.
- 8:27
- Cheeseness
- Yeah
- 8:27
- medacris
- TVTropes is great for introducing people to new shows, movies, games, etc.
- 8:27
- Mimness
- OTMJohn: Well it was well received in this house ^_^
- 8:27
- medacris
- Mim, I think it was cool that they were written as contrasts.
- 8:27
- kisak
- OTMJohn: unresponsive for 10 hours, and has been flailed about constantly for the last 9 hours, no chance of neck / spine / internal bleeding, right?
- 8:27
- liorean
- Yes, but it's also a great way to lose 3-4 hours you really didn't intend to
- 8:27
- medacris
- @liorean: True.
- 8:28
- Permafry_42
- i like TVTropes because without it homestuck probably wouldn't exist, or would be a very different webcomic
- 8:28
- OTMJohn
- hahah kisak, interesting point
- maybe
- 8:28
- psymin
- is administrator Cyril?
- 8:29
- Mimness
- I agree medacris, I agree. It made me feel that ARID was unique.
- 8:29
- Cheeseness
- Does someone usually continue to bleed after 10 hours?
- 8:29
- liorean
- I like TVTropes because I don't think any resource like it ever existed in offline format
- 8:29
- Cheeseness
- I suppose that would depend on how recently it was strung up on the cross maybe?
- 8:29
- OTMJohn
- yeah, I don't think it's 10 hours
- it might evben be in the minutes
- we chatted about that when we wrote the line
- but now I don't remember
- 8:30
- kisak
- the timeframe of the other combat system implied that the timeframe was minimal
- less than an hour maybe?
- 8:31
- OTMJohn
- it might ebven be 20 minutes
- 8:32
- yama_
- "the human inside this suit is dead."
- 8:32
- OTMJohn
- ya'll have a request for episode 2, by any chance?
- 8:32
- yama_
- "I do not know why she was attacked"
- 8:32
- Mimness
- Go yama_!
- 8:32
- OTMJohn
- ^_^
- 8:32
- yama_
- "no vital signs detected for twenty-three minutes"
- 8:32
- OTMJohn
- ah! there ya go
- good find
- 8:32
- kisak
- oh hi Mimness
- 8:33
- yama_
- She's referred to as she and her three times.
- 8:33
- Mimness
- hi kisak
- 8:33Cheeseness pats yama
- 8:33
- OTMJohn
- pats
- 8:33
- OTMJohn
- pat Cheeseness
- 8:33
- OTMJohn
- ... hmm nope.
- 8:34yama_ pat OTMJohn
- 8:34yama_ pat OTMJohn
- 8:34Mimness pats Mimness
- 8:34
- OTM_Danielle
- Beginning of a TV Tropes page here: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/VideoGame/TheFall
- 8:34
- OTMJohn
- ahhhh
- 8:34
- Mimness
- Go me.
- 8:34OTMJohn pats yama_
- 8:34
- OTMJohn
- Thanks Danni! She's my social media saviour
- 8:34
- liorean
- Bleh, missing cards 3, 4 for steam turn ins,. and I don't think there's enough time for me to vote enough times to get two more cards
- 8:34Cheeseness pats Danielle
- 8:34
- medacris
- @OTM_Danielle: Thank you!
- @liorean: I feel you, I'm still missing 3-4 cards
- 8:35
- Cheeseness
- That TVTropes page is using the old game blurb
- 8:35
- liorean
- Actually I'm amazed that I haven't gotten any doubles so far
- 8:36
- OTMJohn
- it's using caleb's blurb i think
- 8:36
- liorean
- I got triples of two during hte winter sale!
- 8:36
- OTMJohn
- let me check
- 8:36
- Cheeseness
- Speaking of cards, it might be worth investigating getting cards for The Fall. It's super cheap and I hate it, but it can help get a bit of visibility
- 8:36
- yama_
- I've managed to not buy anything in the Steam sale so far. \o/
- A little tempted to get Cinder, though.
- 8:36
- Cheeseness
- I bought XCOM
- 8:36
- liorean
- I have bought some things in the steam sale. But most of the cards I got through voting, not buying
- 8:36
- OTMJohn
- oh yeah, Steam cards, for sure
- I should look into that
- 8:37
- Permafry_42
- Thanks again for joining us OTMJohn and OTM_Danielle. Will either of you be going to fullindie next month?
- 8:37
- OTMJohn
- maybe as part of the patch
- 8:37
- yama_
- *Cinders
- 8:37
- Cheeseness
- 8:37
- OTMJohn
- we don't have plans but we should go to full indie, soooooooo i'll say yes
- depending on when it is
- maybe we'll do a card/achievements/commentary patch, update humble, and do a sale on both platforms.
- 8:38
- OTM_Danielle
- Likely yes.
- 8:38
- Permafry_42
- Alrighty well I'll definitely try to go next month too so if i do I'll be sure to say hi. I'll be wearing a blue homestuck hoodie
- 8:38
- OTMJohn
- I'll be wearing an awesome male balding pattern and a beard
- hehe
- we'll get a drink for sure if I'm there!
- 8:39
- Permafry_42
- Even though I'm 19 I still don't drink yet, but I'm always up for a good chat
- 8:39
- OTM_Danielle
- We'll be there, as long as we're in town!
- 8:39
- psymin
- alright, I'm googlin how to deal with this one
- 8:40
- OTMJohn
- oh haha fair enough
- 8:40
- Cheeseness
- Where are you up to, psymin?

- 8:43
- psymin
- Cheeseness: nope
- 8:43
- Cheeseness
- Have you tried hiding from the security bot?
- 8:44
- psymin
- yep
- I've shot the wire
- 8:44
- Cheeseness
- use the wire (that should repair the diagnostics console)
- 8:44
- psymin
- got it
- live wire
- 8:45
- medacris
- I'm filling in the tropes page right now. Would "Action Girl" work for ARID?
- 8:46
- Cheeseness
- That's a good question, medacris
- 8:46
- liorean
