- >On this morning Rarity had decided to make herself some pancakes from scratch.
- >Mixing the batter and frying them up to perfection.
- >However, as she removed the finished pancakes from the pan setting them on the plate, she felt something, unnatural.
- >She carried the plate to the table with magic removing the pan from the stove.
- >Rarity slathers on butter, and pours syrup over the pancakes.
- >Raritys younger sister Sweetie Belle was away today with her friends, leaving Rarity all alone with her meal.
- >She grabs the proper utensils sitting them next to the table.
- >Then Rarity herself sits in front of her plate.
- >She can't bring herself to lift the utensils once again.
- >Something, seems off about the pancakes.
- >She stares at them, observing their texture.
- >They seem just as ordinary as any other pancakes she's seen.
- >Rarity looks around the room getting the feeling shes being watched, this uncomfortable tense feeling.
- >She turns back to the pancakes, as she looks at them again, she feels a rising swell in her head.
- >Like the onset of a headache, panging at her.
- >Perhaps it's the workload, she has been under a lot of stress with her new fashion line.
- >Rarity looks at the pancakes for several more minutes.
- >Each minute more painful than the last.
- >It's so simple right?
- >Rarity keeps staring, knowing instinctively she has to do something here.
- >What is it though she wonders.
- >Eating the pancakes doesn't seem right.
- >Sticking the fork into their surface seems as wrong to her as sticking her fork into a cat.
- >And she would never do something like that to her own cat.
- >Her headache has instensifed so much that she pushes herself away from the table and walks away from her plate.
- >She feels the growl of her stomach.
- >Someone as busy as her doesn't get many chances to eat, this may be the only time..
- >And yet..
- >No, perhaps, another time.
- >She wraps up the pancakes putting them in the fridge for later.
- >It's not the first time she's gone to work on an empty stomach.
- >Surely she can do it again.
- >Rarity focuses on her designs.
- >The calm quiet of the room leaves her little else to focus on but her work.
- >What was it that stopped her from eating?
- >It's not like she's never eaten pancakes before.
- >Rarity rather quite likes them.
- >But why..
- >She stares in the reflection as sun breaks through the clouds.
- >She sees the slight bags in her eyes.
- >Staying up late has thrown off her schedule.
- >She must meet deadlines, she must keep designing new clothes.
- >But inspiration is not always easy.
- >The work is tedious, even using the machine.
- >Her eyes won't let her slip up.
- >They can see everything, every slight flaw.
- >And of course, quality is expected of her work.
- >One bad review, one missed stitch could lead to ruin.
- >She must stay focused.
- >Night comes, her younger sister came and said hi briefly earlier while Rarity was still at work.
- >But she's done now, and the younger sister is asleep.
- >The weariness of the day has numbed her senses.
- >Rarity comes to the kitchen in the night lighting the dark boutique with her horn.
- >Saving electricity will cut costs down.
- >A savvy business woman knows how important it is to save money.
- >She feels the hunger grip her stomach.
- >She opens the fridge.
- >Nothing has been previously made.
- >Nothing can be consumed in it's raw form.
- >Sitting, on the top shelf in the middle, the pancakes, wrapped in plastic wrap.
- >Rarity feels a sense of uneasyness seeing them again.
- >She grabs the plate taking it and shutting the fridge.
- >Darkness surrounds her breifly before she relights the area with her horn.
- >She floats some untensils hastily from a drawer before sitting down at the table.
- >She looks at them again.
- >But something feels very wrong here.
- >Goosebumps run along Rarities skin.
- >Her instincts are telling her to put them away.
- >That she shouldn't eat them.
- >And yet the hunger grips her.
- >The dark room so quiet that you could hear a pin drop.
- >In darkness she stares at the pancakes.
- >The pancakes themselves seem to have an odious quality to them.
- >Generally unpleasant to be around, and certainly not something she'd want to eat.
- >Rarity sighs as she floats the pancakes back into the fridge.
- >As she closes the fridge door she immediately feels a wave of relief wash over her.
- >Rarity lies awake in bed.
- >The pancakes are still in her home.
- >Still there in the fridge, to haunt her when she pulls the door open again.
- >So vexing..
- >She felt no uneasyness holding the eggs or flour or any of the other ingredients.
- >But as soon as they were complete, that's when it began.
- >Theres no reason she should feel this way..
- >After all, they're just ordinary pancakes.
- >Pancakes are totally harmless.
- >So why..
- >It's dark all around her.
- >A big black empty room
- >Suddenly, from the abyss,
- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6vUq4sn1HwI
- "W-what was that?!"
- >Rarity walks around in the cold black room.
- "W-whos there!?"
- >Why, why are these sounds..
- >It's all, so familiar..
- >Suddenly she walks into a small plate of them.
- >Her head throbs as syrup from the darkness is being drenched over their surface.
- >Raritys breathing intensifies as something about them is making her very uncomfortable.
- "Go away, I don't want to eat you!"
- >Rarity runs away into the darkness.
- >She turns back, and the pancakes are still right behind her.
- >She runs faster, faster, speeding as fast as she can through the dark room.
- >She looks back again however, and the pancakes are still there as if she hadn't moved at all.
- >Still right there, she can't get away no matter how fast she runs.
- "Stop, stop please, go away!"
- >Pancakes, mere feet away from her.
- >Rarity scrambling, backing away, but she can't seem to get any farther from them.
- ?She screams.
- >Rarity wakes up, covered in sweat, her heart racing.
- >She sits up in her bed.
- >She takes in a deep breath.
- >Rarity goes to the bathroom, relieving herself and washing up.
- >Now realizing that perhaps the pancakes are the source of her problem.
- >The logical thing to do would be to throw them away right?
- >Yes, first thing she gets to the kitchen, she'll just throw the pancakes away and this whole nightmare will be over.
- >Rarity walks down the stairs, smelling the distinct scent of..
- >Maple syrup..
- >She rushes down the stairs to the kitchen seeing the plate of pancakes on the table.
- >The fridge left wide open, all the rest of the food gone.
- >Rarity breathes heavily as she turns back to see the pancakes still on the table.
- >Her hooves trembling.
- >Her sister walks through the door.
- >"Oh there you are Rarity, good morning!"
- >She walks over to Rarity looking up at her with big doe eyes.
- >"Whats the matter Rarity?"
- "T-the food, in the fridge.. WHAT HAPPENED TO IT?!"
- >She raises her eyebrow at Rarity.
- >"Rarity, all the food was expired!"
- "W-what do you mean, why then.. The pancakes.."
- >"Well, I figured you made them yesterday since I didn't see them there the day before, so I figured I'd leave them in there so you'd have something to eat for breakfast."
- "O-oh, S-sweetie.. Isn't that.. Nice.."
- >Raritys sister pushes her toward and into the chair.
- >"Yeah! So go on, I'm sure you must be starving!"
- >Rarity smiles cheesily looking uncomfortably at the platter of pancakes.
- >Their presence still wholly unsettling to her.
- >"W-well?"
- "O-oh, Sweetie, it's just that.."
- >"Whats wrong?"
- "Nothing! It's just that I'm not hungry is all!"
- >She scoots herself away from the table.
- >"But you haven't even eaten yet."
- "N-now now Sweetie Belle, run along, your sister is very busy with her new fashion line and needs to get to work!"
- >She says pushing herself away from the table and excusing herself.
- >"You aren't skipping meals again like you used to when we were younger are you?"
- >Rarity stops in her tracks.
- "What?"
- >Sweetie Belle walks closer to Rarity.
- >"You used to skip meals all the time, remember when we were younger, and you got upset because the other ponies were calling you fat?"
- "B-but you were so young at the time, how could you even remember?"
- >"I remember, you used to push your food away, say you weren't hungry. Mom and Dad were really worried too."
- "T-this isn't like that!"
- >"Are you sure Rarity?"
- "Yes, now be a good girl and run along. I must continue my work."
- >Sweetie Belle frowns.
- >"If you say so."
- >The pancakes were put back in the fridge..
- >The second day with no food.
- >Her stomach claws at her with pain.
- >She wants to get something to eat but all there is, is those pancakes.
- >Pay isn't for another day, and the money is tight.
- >Rarity did skip meals sometimes, but it was for the best.
- >It was good that she chose to lose the weight.
- >But this has nothing to do with weightloss.
- >It's not as if she doesn't enjoy pancakes..
- >So why can't she just sit down and eat them?
- ----
- >Night comes again, and Rarity falls asleep.
- >She ate nothing once again.
- ---
- >It's the dark room again, and the pancakes are there.
- "Why.. Why won't you leave me alone!?"
- >A voice, so gentle and sweet.
- >Tender like the words of a kind grandfather.
- >"I don't want to hurt you Rarity, I want to be your friend."
- "Thats a lie!"
- >"I want to nourish you, and help you grow."
- "W-what are those sounds!? Stop, stop it!"
- >"I just want to help you grow."
- >Rarity loses control of her body as she lunges forward toward the pancakes.
- >She begins to devour the pancakes with her bare hooves.
- >With her mouth full saying,
- "No, stop, don't make me!"
- >The taste is delicious, and there are more pancakes.
- >Pancakes, pancakes, pancakes..
- >So many pancakes!
- >But now..
- >Raritys body bloats.
- >The laughter of the children intensifies.
- "Stop it, please! I can't.. I can't stop it! I'm so hungry I can't stop eating!"
- >Rarity cries as she consumes the sweet pancakes, the laughter grows louder till it's near deafening.
- >A mirror shows the grotesque form of an overstuffed Rarity.
- "Oh, look at me, I look simply awful!"
- >Rarity blinks, and in an instant, she sees her form in the mirror become pancakes.
- >She feels her squishy form.
- >Syrup suddenly rains from the empty blackness coating Rarity.
- >The cold sticky disgustingness all over her.
- >Rarity struggles but she can't move.
- >More and more syrup pours on her, until it begins to suffocate.
- >Rarity wakes up covered in sweat.
- >She goes to shower and freshen up again.
- >She emerges and goes into the kitchen pulling out the pancakes
- >She sits at the table with her utensils.
- >Staring at them once again.
- >"Aren't you hungry Rarity?"
- "I'm fine dear. I'm going to get back to work now."
- >Rarity gets up putting the pancakes back in the fridge before heading back to work.
- END.
