I went on a trip to go to the fair
But the train broke down and I couldn't make it there

I met a tanuki and he was a crook
He approached with a smile, his name was Tom Nook

I couldn't even pay but he sold me a house
I could barely step in, only fit for a louse

This place is so rural, nowhere to park
So I can't outspeed his vicious loan shark

He came wielding an ax - it had a big old crack
Said this is what happens when you don't pay him back

But in town there was hope, a policeman named Booker
But there were no witnesses, I 'needed an onlooker'

My last resort, I put a panicked letter in the mail
But I made a pelican mad, she threw it in a garbage pail

I saw what they did to my neighbor Bud
He couldn't pay back, so they threw him in mud

But maybe there was escape, a boat at the port
And the man who ran it looked like a good sport

But on the island all they did was play games
And they sent me on back when I called them names

When I returned to land some dog declared me mayor
This just keeps getting worse, layer upon layer...
