Ed: I grew up on the streets of Nevassa, the Daein capital. I never knew my parents. From before I could walk, I was fighting to get enough food and water to survive. There were rumors that King Ashnard was holding tournaments for strong warriors. The winners, regardless of their social status, were granted wealth and power beyond their wildest dreams. I trained hard, determined to enter one of the tournaments and make something of myself. But then…

Ed: Well, a lot of reasons, really. Killing you won’t undo my past. I have many great friends and I’m fighting to protect them. I may have endured a lot of suffering to get here, but I’m happy now. Killing you as revenge for troubles I no longer have would be pointless. What’s more...my friends would never want me to do it. Michaiah, Leo, Nolan...all of them would say the same thing. They wouldn’t want me to stain my conscience with pointless bloodshed.

Ed: Not really. I just wouldn’t want to let my friends down...and I’m sure you don’t want to either.
