  1. Cool Cat
  2. > Northern United States
  3. > A large city is facing a harsh winter
  4. > The skyline fading into the bleak grey horizon as snow falls and wind bites into the land
  5. > It's human residents brave the cold in thick clothing while going about their business
  6. > Animals have hunkered down avoiding the cold whenever possible
  7. > Here in the back alleys of the frozen city a small herd of fluffies eek out an existence
  8. > "S-s-s-smawty, f-f-f-fwuffy s-s-owwy m-make bbbb-bad poo-oopiessss"
  9. > A shivering colt sits outside a cardboard box
  10. > "P-p-p-pwea-ase wet f-fwuff ff ff ffy in wa-a-awm pieowe..."
  11. > Light blue and white the colt's tiny wings flutter as he tries to shake off some of the snow coating him with little success
  12. > "Nuu! Cowt make bad poopies on hewd! Poopies outside! Nuu wawm piowe fo' bad fwuffies!"
  13. > The solid red unicorn at the edge of the pile has a large brown stain over his right flank
  14. > Frozen solid the feces make his and several others fluff matted and uncomfortable
  15. > Though the frozen feces no longer smells it makes keeping warm more difficult for the tiny creatures
  16. > "B-b-b- hhh b-b- buuh suu-hh-uu-uuu c-c-c-hhh-c-owwddd... c-c-co-o-owt wan waw-w-w-wm-hhhh-hhhh-hhhh...."
  17. > Wings now barely twitching the fluffy curls into a ball tucking his exposed feet, face, and bottom under what fluff he has
  18. > The tail curls up and he covers as much as he can with it
  19. > Ice crystals have frozen over his cheeks where he was crying
  20. > His nostrils are dangerously clogged with hardened snot
  21. > "f...f...f..f..f..f..fwuffy... w.w..w..w..w..wan... wa...a.a..a..a... a... ... a... ... ..."
  22. > Suffering for hours from hypothermia and too young to have grown a winter coat the colt dies in front of his herd
  23. > "Smawty nuu wet bad fwuffies in hewd... hewd nuu wike bad fwuffies... offa fwuffies good..."
  24. > The colt like many fluffies did not survive his first winter
  25. > The herd now cuddle closer in the square moving box
  26. > Two tiny foals born only days before suckle on their mother lying in the center of the pile
  27. > Protected from the cold and wind they won't die of hypothermia
  28. > "Mummah...mummah... tummy huwt... mummah... mummah..."
  29. > The lack of food however, will give them little chance of survival
  30. > "Mummmah sowwy bebbehs... nuu nummies... tuu cowd... nuu get nummies now... pwease sweep... nummies soon... pwomise bebbehs..."
  31. > The mother is far skinner than she should be
  32. > In fact the whole herd is practically anemic
  33. > The smarty has decided to hunker until the snow storm blows over
  34. > He's been smarty for what fluffies call, "wawm den cowd time"
  35. > It's approximately one year
  36. > The solid blood red fluffy was born, and will most likely die with his herd
  37. > After the last smarty, his father, died at the hands of a large cat he has kept his herd safe
  38. > This isn't his first winter either, years of experience give him a wealth of knowledge most smarties never acquire
  39. > A thick fluff coat also helps
  40. > But, this winter isn't like the last two
  41. > The unseasonable cold has caused more snow than ever
  42. > For the last week it has been nonstop
  43. > He would move to gather food if the winds would stop, but it has only been getting worse
  44. > Fluffies can survive in snow and while it's snowing
  45. > Their thick coats keep the cold away and if they move as a group they can keep warm
  46. > However, with cold winds blowing through their legs and blowing winds knocking around fluffies they can't stay together
  47. > "Mummah nee nummies smawty... mummah nuu haff miwkie fow bebbehs... nee nummies fow bebbehs miwk..."
  48. > The smarty sitting closest to the opening is becoming irritable with the constant bad weather
  49. > "Nuu! Sky make mean cowd windies! Fwuffies nuu guu out in cowd windies! Fwuffies haff wongest sweepies wike bad cowt!"
  50. > He points a leg at the now still body outside the box slowly being covered in snow a faint trace of the light blue fluff remains visible
  51. > The fluffies in the box all mewl
  52. > "nuu... fwuffy nuu wan sweepies fow evah... hewp fwuffy suu hungwy..."
  53. > The smarty quickly tucks his leg back under his fluff and turns his back to the opening
  54. > The foals resume whining, woken from their short sleep by the smarties yelling and the fear they sense in their herd
  55. > "Mummah! nuu sweep! nuu sweep! nummies! mummah! tummeh huwty! mummah! nuu sweep! mummah..."
  56. > The mother cries as she hugs her whining foals who try to suckle yet again
  57. > She knows that they will die if they don't get milk soon
  58. > Snuggling closer the fluff pile tries to sleep but the foals incessant chirping, howling winds, and biting cold give them no reprieve
  59. > The lightly mewling box and a fresh body outside it brings out a familiar monster from its hiding place
  60. > Across from the box in the alley sits a fat orange tabby cat
  61. > He's been stalking this herd for well over a year now
  62. > Being a rather smart cat he has managed to balance his diet with other small animals and trash when the fluffy herd got small
  63. > He smiles as he thinks to himself
  64. > 'meow meow meow meow... meow meowwww!'
  65. > It reads something like this
  66. > "Aww... another tiny animal meets... eat it!"
  67. > Cats have a weird sense of humor
  68. > Stepping softly in the snow the cat slinks across the windy alley towards his quarry
  69. > Quickly peeking his head around the lip the cat observes the fluffies all snuggling in a pile
  70. > No fluffies are looking towards the doorway, unable to hear any danger
  71. > 'looks warm, too bad they won't let me in. I'll take this gift instead though...'
  72. > The cat grabs the corpse by the neck and silently drags it back to his own hiding place
  73. > A soiled king sized bed lies sideways next to a dumpster creating a tent like structure
  74. > The fat cat has happily slept here for the last two weeks
  75. > The fluffies die on their own from time to time and corpses are pushed outside
  76. > Easy eating
  77. > Other fluffies walking through the alley are also a tasty meal weak from hunger and cold
  78. > The herd however is too good to kill all at once
  79. > Their leader is actually pretty clever
  80. > He's managed to avoid you once or twice
  81. > He'll keep the herd alive
  82. > As the cat tears into the corpse the wind picks up and snow pours from the sky
  83. > Over the next day it only gets worse
