  1. > The moon has begun its descent by the time you reach ponyville.
  2. > Few ponies are on the streets, most of them flee when they see you running into town.
  3. > One particular cyan pegasus who you recognize does not.
  4. > You call out to her.
  5. "Rainbow Dash, I need your help with something."
  6. > In the blink of an eye shes hovering in front of you.
  7. > "What's up Anon?"
  8. > You quickly present her with the note you found.
  9. "I need you to read this."
  10. > She looks at you with an arched eyebrow.
  11. > "O-kay...?"
  12. > She takes one quick look at the note then looks back at you, her expression deadpan.
  13. > "This some kinda weird joke?"
  14. > You look at the note.
  15. > It looks exactly the same as when you picked it up.
  16. "This is written in Equestrian, is it not?"
  17. > She snatches the note from your hand and looks at it.
  18. > Her brow furrows and she looks frustrated.
  19. > "No dude, that's nothing like Equestrian."
  20.
  21. > You think for a moment.
  22. > You drop to your knees and quickly scrawl your name in the dirt.
  23. "Does it look anything like that?"
  24. > She drops to the ground and circles to look at it from different angles.
  25. > "Yeah, some of those are defiantly on there."
  26. > Great, the letter is enchanted.
  27. "Rainbow Dash, which way is the library, Twilight may be able to help."
  28. > She takes off down the road shouting back.
  29. > "Follow me!"
  30. > Not wanting to lose her you take off running behind her.
  31. > In a short while you reach the Library.
  32. > The lights are off, but the door is unlocked and the windows are open, so you can see easily in the darkness.
  33. > You unceremoniously enter the building and call out.
  34. "Twilight!"
  35. > "Dude, maybe you should just wait till morning."
  36. > You ignore her and run up the stairs.
  37.
  38. > The door to Twilights room isn't locked either and you barge in.
  39. > As you do you see Twilight jump back against the wall and squeaks in fright.
  40. > She stares at you in the door for a minute.
  41. > "A-Anonymous?"
  42. "Yes."
  43. > She lets out a sigh of relief.
  44. > "You scared me. What the heck are you doing barging into my room this late at night?!"
  45. > You quickly explain to her what happened on the road.
  46. > She slumps back down into her bed, pulls a blanket over herself and grumbles.
  47. > "This couldn't wait until morning?"
  48. "I usually try to find out about mysterious vanishing things and notes that I can not read as soon as possible."
  49. > She sighs.
  50. > "Fine, give me the note."
  51. > You realize that Rainbow Dash still has it.
  52. "Rainbow Dash!"
  53. > A second later she pokes her head through the door.
  54. > "Yeah?"
  55. "The note."
  56. > She pulls the note out from under a wing and walks over to you with it in her mouth.
  57. > Ignoring that, you take the note and hand it to Twilight."
  58. > She takes the note with her magic and unfurls it in front of her.
  59. > Her horn starts to glow and she takes a moment to look it over.
  60. > "So this is what your written language looks like?"
  61. "Yes."
  62.
  63. > She stares at the page for a moment longer before looking up at you again.
  64. > "So what exactly do you want me to do?"
  65. > You don't really know so you just say the first thing that comes to mind.
  66. "Do you have some way of removing the enchantment?"
  67. > She runs a hoof along her chin and stares off into space for a minute.
  68. > "If I knew what the enchantment was I could, but as is I run the risk of just making it unreadable."
  69. > Another idea comes to mind.
  70. "Could you copy what it says on the note onto something else.?"
  71. > She nods.
  72. > "Yes, but it can wait until morning."
  73. > She plows her face into the pillow and lets out a muffled 'goodnight.'
  74. > The note drops to the floor as the room goes dark again.
  75. > You pick up the note and walk out of the room, Rainbow Dash trailing behind you.
  76. > You make your way back downstairs, Rainbow dash just flies down the air gap and lands in the center of the room.
  77. > She turns to you as you reach the bottom of the stairs.
  78. > "So now what?"
  79. > You contemplate that for a moment.
  80. "Would you be able to help me?"
  81.
  82. > She shakes her head
  83. > "Still got some things to do tonight, then I gotta get to work early."
  84. > You nod to yourself.
  85. "Than I shall wait for morning."
  86. > She begins to make her way to the door way but stops in front of it.
  87. > She turns to face you again.
  88. > "Um, hey Anon..."
  89. > You stare at her, waiting for her to continue.
  90. > When she doesn't you speak.
  91. "Yes?"
  92. > She stares back at you for a minute.
  93. > "Uh, nothing, never mind."
  94. > With that she quickly makes herself scarce.
  95. > Odd, but you had other things on your mind, so for now you decide to ignore it.
  96. > At the moment you are trying to recall whatever you can about the incident.
  97. > Maybe come up with some answers while you wait.
  98.
  99. > The strange thing is, you can't.
  100. > The harder you try to recall the details of the events, the harder it is to remember them.
  101. > You started by trying to remember what the...
  102. > Was it a unicorn or a pegasus?
  103. > He was on top of the...
  104. > Was he on top or inside the carriage?
  105. > Could he have ...
  106. > Was it a mare or stallion?
  107. > Gods, why can't you remember?
  108. > Maybe the note would have some kind of clue?
  109. > Maybe the bag?
  110. > Oh right the bag!
  111. > You frantically look around for it.
  112. > When you notice that it is tied to the same clasp that holds your cloak to you.
  113. > When did you tie that on?
  114.
  115. > ...
  116. > You didn't.
  117. > What in the name of all things divine is going on?
  118. > You attempt to untie the knot binding the bag to you only to find, you can't.
  119. > You give it a slightly harder tug and again, nothing happens.
  120. > The string moved, but as soon as you tried to undo the knot, it may as well have turned into a solid adamantine ball.
  121. > You feel your frustration building rapidly.
  122. > You can't read the note.
  123. > You can't open the bag.
  124. > You can't remember...
  125. > ...Anything of use really...
  126. > You don't even have something else to do to occupy your time.
  127. > All you can do is wait.
  128. > You hate how time is simply wasting away, but this is all you can do.
  129. > So you wait patiently, staring out the window, waiting for the signs of dawn.
  130. > Eventually the dawns light comes and not long later the sound of steps and morning routine can be faintly heard.
  131. > In the almost total silence of the library, you can hear water running, even through the doors and walls.
  132. > When the sound of water stop, it is replaced once more by hoof steps on wood.
  133.
  134. > There is a click as the door at the top of the stairs opens.
  135. > You turn your head to see a rather tired looking Twilight coming down the stairs.
  136. > She walks right past you into the kitchen and as she does she says.
  137. > "Breakfast first, note after."
  138. > So you sit patiently waiting for her to cook...
  139. > And eat...
  140. > And clean up...
  141. > Why in Kyhber do fleshlings take so long to do things!?
  142. > She does eventually come out of the kitchen, carrying an ink well, a quill and some parchement.
  143. > She walks up in front of you, still looking tired, and sits down.
  144. > She yawns before speaking.
  145. > "Note."
  146. > So you unfurl and show her it.
  147. > She immediatly looks perplexed.
  148. > "Are you sure this is the note from last night?"
  149. > You look at the note yourself and it looks exactly the same.
  150. "Yes."
  151. > You turn the note back to her.
  152. > "Anonymous, this is blank."
  153.
  154. > You look at the note again and sure enough, the script is all still there.
  155. > A plan quickly forms in your head.
  156. > If Twilight can't see the note, you can just write the script you see.
  157. > You don't know why you didn't think of that before.
  158. > You point at the writing utensils.
  159. "I need to borrow those for a moment."
  160. > She floats them over to a small table in the center of the room.
  161. > "Be my guest."
  162. > You quickly walk over and kneel in front of the table.
  163. > Taking the quill and dipping it in ink, you quickly begin to copy down the script you see from one sheet to the other.
  164. > As soon as you finish copying down line-by-line what you see you call out for Twilight, not taking your eyes off the note for a second.
  165. > You hear her walk up beside you.
  166. > The paper lifts up, surrounded by a faint purple glow, and floats over to her.
  167. > You look to see Twilight reading the paper, a look of confusion on her face.
  168. > "No cheating?"
  169. > There's no way what you just wrote could be two words.
  170. > You snatch the note back from Twilights magical grasp and look at it.
  171. "What the -!"
  172. > Every bird within ten miles is sent flying for a new place to roost, as you shout one of the few profanities you know at the top of your none-existant lungs.
  173.
  174. > Meanwhile in the library, Twilight is busy re-arranging her hair.
  175. > Spike is now fully awake and beginning to re-shelf the books that were knocked loose.
  176. > You?
  177. > You're just staring at the parchment gripped tightly in your hands, attempting to comprehend how...
  178. > HOW...
  179. > Could the note have changed, into both plain common script and equestrian script, reading the simple message...
  180. > No cheating.
  181. > You BOTH had eyes on the paper.
  182. > The paper wasn't enchanted.
  183. > The ink wasn't enchanted.
  184. > You place the note down in front of you, get up, and walk out the door.
  185. > You ignore Twilight calling out, asking you where you're going.
  186. > Everything can wait, right now, you need to break something.
  187. > So, your maul secure on your shoulder, you walk off towards the everfree forest.
  188.
  189. > You're sure nobody will miss a few trees.
