  1. >Paladin woman has a husband
  2. >He's not a fighter, but he's a pretty good hunter
  3. >She's always off fighting
  4. >Even when she's home, she's more concerned about cleaning her armor and reading her scriptures
  5. >She and several other paladins are tasked with eliminating a Black Dragon that's built a castle in the middle of the forest that borders her own town
  6. >She goes off to fight once more, leaving her husband alone again
  7. >He's never told anyone, but the reason he became such a skilled hunter is because he didn't want to go home
  8. >If he spent 3 days sitting motionless in a tree while waiting for a deer to come by, he wouldn't have to sleep alone in the bed they were meant to share
  9.
  10. >On day 4, he hears movement
  11. >Too big to be a deer, but he's not about to move and give himself away to possible danger
  12. >So he waits
  13. >Into the clearing bursts a woman
  14. >Not just any woman, a monster girl
  15. >She looks hurt
  16. >She also looks dangerous
  17. >Tall, very tall, at least two heads taller than him, and he's not exactly short
  18. >Ivory skin, marred by blood, contrasting with onyx black scales covering her arms and framing her face
  19. >Jet black hair matted by dirt, leaves and possible blood as well
  20. >Enormous wings, though torn and damaged, still seemed as though they'd be able to enable her to easily fly above the trees
  21. >Putting his cautiousness aside, there was an injured person in front of him, and his consciousness wouldn't allow him to leave them be without trying to help
  22. >He took a moment to stretch his legs before hopping out of the tree, and without missing a beat she tackled him to the ground and grabbed his throat with a clawed hand
  23. >"Wait! I want to help!" he shouted
  24. >She hesitated, but her facial expression didn't change and she didn't speak
  25. >"I have some first aid supplies in the pouch on my hip, I just wanted to help because you look hurt."
  26. >Still stonefaced, she reached into the pouch with her free hand and fished around until she was satisfied he was telling the truth
  27. >Though when she released his neck, she grabbed his bow and snapped the string
  28. >Slumping back into a sitting position, she gestured towards his pouch as said "Well?"
  29. >Having realized she was a Dragon, he figured the ungratefulness is something he should have expected and decided to just finish fast and get her out of his hair
  30. >Curiosity got the better of him though
  31. >"So you're a Black Dragon, I take it?"
  32. >"What of it?"
  33. >"Are you the same Black Dragon that the church sent paladins after?"
  34. >"The very same."
  35. >"It doesn't look like you fared too well."
  36. >"I don't have to justify myself to some peasant."
  37. >"Did you kill any of them?"
  38. >"2, why?"
  39. >"My wife was part of the group sent after you."
  40. >The Dragon's face lit up a little
  41. >"Oho, you don't seem to shaken up at the idea of your wife having been killed."
  42. >"It's..."
  43. >"I get it. You don't need to waste my time with pointless stories. Still, I find this amusing."
  44. >"You find what amusing?"
  45. >The Dragon's face lit up even more, and she once again slammed him to the ground
  46. >"I have a proposal for you."
  47. >"I don't suppose I have any right to refuse?"
  48. >"Oh you're free to refuse, though I can't guarantee your safety if you do."
  49. >"Fine then, let's hear it."
  50. >A menacing smile spreads across the Dragon's face as she tells him that she'll be taking him as a battle trophy
  51. >She tells him to return home, gather his things and return quickly, lest she grow impatient and come get him herself
  52.
  53. >He notices a light on while returning, and opens the door to find his wife sitting at the table, missing pieces of her armor, blood trailing down her face and staring silently at her helmet
  54. >"Y-You're alive?"
  55. >His question snaps her out of her daze, and she looks up at him
  56. >"What?"
  57. >"I thought you were dead, what happened to you?"
  58. >"Why would you think I was dead?"
  59. >"Because he met me!" called the Dragon as she appeared in the doorway
  60. >"YOU!"
  61. >The paladin grabbed her sword off the table, shoved her husband out of the way and lunged at the dragon who easily tossed her aside
  62. >"You don't have that magic to help you this time, you can't win."
  63. >"I WILL KILL YOU!"
  64. >"No, you won't. I'll be taking your husband as well, you don't deserve him. Take some time and think about who the real monster is."
  65. >With that, the Dragon snatched the man in one arm, stepped out the door and took off into the sky with a beat of her wings
  66.
  67. >Almost exactly a year later, the paladin and her comrades were again marching on the castle of a Dragon
  68. >She hoped it was the same bitch that had taken her husband
  69. >Just after passing the treeline, a single arrow pierced the helm, and the head, of the man marching in front and he dropped like a stone
  70. >Looking towards the source of the arrow, she saw a man standing on the top of the castle's wall
  71. >It was him, her husband
  72. >Next to him was that fucking Dragon
  73. >And she was laughing
  74. >Forgetting discipline and orders, she tore off her helm and began running towards the castle while screaming at the Dragon to give her back her husband
  75. >"Your husband? Oh, you're that woman!"
  76. >"Turning towards the man, the Dragon whispered something to him, and what he whispered back caused the Dragon to laugh once more
  77. >"What's so funny?!" the paladin demanded
  78. >"Do you want to tell her, or should I?" the Dragon asked the man, her husband
  79. >The man finally spoke up
  80. >"She asked me what I wanted to do with you."
  81. >"W-What did you say?" asked the paladin, her voice beginning to waver
  82. >"If you intend to harm my wife, or our child, then I'll do everything in my power to defend them, our personal history be damned."
