  1. I've been cigarette free for a month and a half thanks to vaping. Apparently the issue is with the components of E-Liquid. Let's break this down:
  2.
  3. 1) Propelyn Glycol - GRAS by the FDA and used in humectant (E1520), solvent, and preservative in food and for tobacco products. Not to mention, various medical inhalers as a solvent and carrier of prescription formulations.
  4.
  5. 2) Vegetable Glycerin:
  6.
  7. a) In food and beverages, glycerol serves as a humectant, solvent, and sweetener, and may help preserve foods. It is also used as filler in commercially prepared low-fat foods (e.g., cookies), and as a thickening agent in liqueurs. Glycerol and water are used to preserve certain types of leaves. As a sugar substitute, it has approximately 27 kilocalories per teaspoon (sugar has 20) and is 60% as sweet as sucrose. It does not feed the bacteria that form plaques and cause dental cavities. As a food additive, glycerol is labeled as E number E422. It is added to icing (frosting) to prevent it setting too hard.
  8.
  9. As used in foods, glycerol is categorized by the American Dietetic Association as a carbohydrate. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) carbohydrate designation includes all caloric macronutrients excluding protein and fat. Glycerol has a caloric density similar to table sugar, but a lower glycemic index and different metabolic pathway within the body, so some dietary advocates accept glycerol as a sweetener compatible with low carbohydrate diets.
  10.
  11. b) Glycerol is used in medical and pharmaceutical and personal care preparations, mainly as a means of improving smoothness, providing lubrication and as a humectant. It is found in allergen immunotherapies, cough syrups, elixirs and expectorants, toothpaste, mouthwashes, skin care products, shaving cream, hair care products, soaps and water-based personal lubricants.
  12. In solid dosage forms like tablets, glycerol is used as a tablet
  13. holding agent. For human consumption, glycerol is classified by the U.S.
  14. FDA among the sugar alcohols as a caloric macronutrient.
  15.
  16. Glycerol is a component of glycerin soap. Essential oils are added for fragrance. This kind of soap is used by people with sensitive, easily irritated skin because it prevents skin dryness with its moisturizing properties. It draws moisture up through skin layers and slows or prevents excessive drying and evaporation.
  17.
  18. Glycerol can be used as a laxative when introduced into the rectum in suppository or small-volume (2–10 ml) (enema) form; it irritates the anal mucosa and induces a hyperosmotic effect.
  19.
  20. Taken orally (often mixed with fruit juice to reduce its sweet taste), glycerol can cause a rapid, temporary decrease in the internal pressure of the eye. This can be useful for the initial emergency treatment of severely elevated eye pressure.
  21.
  22. 3) Nicotine is present in the foods we eat: Tomatoes, Potatoes, Eggplant, Peppers, Cauliflower. While the percentage of nicotine is measured in nano-grams per gram, there still is nicotine in everyday foods.
  23.
  24. Vaping is where you turn the fluid into a vapor. Someone dying cause they injected a fluid meant to be vaporized and then inhaled merely meant they deserve a Darwin award. As to a child obtaining their parent's fluid (I say their parent's because every vape shop I have been to cards anyone wishing to make a purchase.) that is the fault of the parent for not keeping it way from them and/or not teaching them well. How many kids/teens have died or become addicted to prescription painkillers due to their parents possessing them? I don't see painkillers being banned.
  25.
  26. As to a diluted amount of nicotine making a child ill or killing them. Every shop I have ever been to and the majority of the online retailers don't make nor sell juices in a dilution higher than 24mg of nicotine. Vapers who drip (and sometimes even those who use tanks) end up with some juice being ingested. Whether it leaked through the drip tip or their coil flooded and it popped some into their mouth doesn't matter. But these same vapers suffer no ill effects other than a fairly bad taste in their mouth. Reputable companies and even every shop I've been to are not the reason for anyone getting sick or even dying (to their own idiocy). There is a community of vapers who make their own juices. Some of these DiY'ers have in their possession 100mg nicotine in their choice of carrier fluid. These bottles are 99.9% pure and are guaranteed to kill a person or make them severly ill just from skin exposure due to it's ability to be absorbed through the skin. However, the majority of DiY'ers that I've seen and conversed with either don't have kids and the ones that do tend to have their 100mg Nicotine locked away in anything from an ammo box with a lock, to a safe.
  27.
  28. To hold the majority accountable due to the majority is senseless. Not only have their been numerous claims by doctors citing the health benefit of vaping (QUITTING SMOKING), but it has created countless jobs in the manufacturing, supply and retail of E-Juice and the various equipment.
  29.
  30. Correct me if I'm wrong, NYS and NYC want their citizens to be smoke free. Correct? Why ban a product that can help with that. There are people who take up vaping to stop smoking cigarretes (myself included). Over time, many of these people progress to vaping at 0 nicotine and either stop vaping or continue to vape to enjoy the different juices.
  31.
  32. Are these products marketed to kids? Not at all? When have you seen a cartoon character or some kid on TV pushing an E-Cigarette? I have yet to see a single one. Only TV ads for E-Cig are for Blu E-Cigs (which the consensus of vaping community tends to be that they are useless) using a celebrity to push you into "Freedom from cigarettes."
  33.
  34. If we're going to start banning these products due to their components and the primary concern being that "Fruity flavors are marketed to kids..." Let's start banning fruity cereals, fruity drinks and fruity desserts.
