  39. [17:24] <CovetousShen> i was clearly wrong
  40. [17:24] <CovetousShen> .-.

  42. [17:24] * CovetousShen ([email protected]) has left #nesdnd
  43. [17:25] * Doruk is happier now
  44. [17:25] <+Wind> who's who again?
  45. [17:25] <+Wind> I know doruk lien and briggs

  49. [17:25] * Ratzenberger ([email protected]) has joined #nesdnd
  50. [17:25] * NK sets mode +v Ratzenberger for #nesdnd
  51. [17:25] <+Wind> ah so rick is terrance
  52. [17:26] <+Wind> got it
  53. [17:26] <+Doruk> [ratzenberger is my only friend on the ship, azale]
  54. [17:26] <+Ratzenberger> [the only friend you'll need]
  55. [17:26] <+Wind> [oh yeah the alechemist]
  56. [17:26] <+Doruk> [we're both fringe peeps]
  57. [17:27] <+Wind> [do you make meth too?]
  58. [17:27] <+Lien> [I'm reasonably certain that I only know the captain]
  59. [17:27] <+Rick> [I'm best buds with Lien. He never tells me I'm annoying and to scram when I ask him questions.]
  60. [17:27] <+Lien> [Definitely only the captain]
  61. [17:27] <+Ratzenberger> [fringe as in, not mainstream hoomans or what]
  62. [17:27] <+Lien> [nobody else]
  63. [17:27] * NK sets topic to: The Ailing Earth, Session 1: To Caephlyn http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S7nmtReFnDs
  64. [17:27] * NK is now known as DM
  65. [17:28] <@DM> This is a dying world.
  66. [17:28] <+Doruk> [._.]
  67. [17:28] <@DM> Thousands of years have passed since the Making of the World, and and unknown number until the Breaking.
  68. [17:28] * Alessa ([email protected]) Quit ( Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client )
  69. [17:29] <@DM> Cleft in twain by the great Rift that splits west from east, this land is cleft, too, between men and elves, and the kingdoms of man lay across the great Sellyck Sea.
  70. [17:30] <@DM> A thousand years ago, the Empire of Men crossed these waters, and built an edifice which they claimed would stand the test of time. Quite obviously, they failed; the land broke into a thousand warring kingdoms. It is not a peaceful land, and for many, that is all that needs to be said.
  71. [17:31] <@DM> Peasants scratch a living from the dry and dusty earth in many places, and their lives are made still more miserable by lords who take their wealth and appropriate it as their own. Armies are raised, and spears and swords clatter as they clash, felling thousands.
  72. [17:31] <@DM> But where some are waylaid by the struggle, others thrive.
  73. [17:33] <@DM> We turn now to our band of adventurers, aboard the Triple Cross. It is a small ship, one of hundreds that ply these waters. Captain Elizabeth Briggs knows the sea well, and she knows her ship. It can outrun most anyone that would mean it harm -- though a code binds the people about this sea.
  74. [17:33] <@DM> The waters have danger enough. There would be no sense in fighting over them.
  75. [17:33] * Alessa ([email protected]) has joined #nesdnd
  76. [17:33] <@DM> And so the Triple Cross sails now, from the northern port of Denrae to the southern port of Caephlyn.
  77. [17:34] <@DM> A complement of some two dozen depart in bright spirits. The waters seem smooth, the sky clear, the day sunny. It will get colder on the Verdant Coast, they know; the season is turning to autumn. But by the time true winter comes, perhaps, they will be back en route to the north.
  78. [17:35] <@DM> The breeze is crisp. The horizons beckon.
  79. [17:36] * DM Alright, feel free to take some initial actions right now. We'll go alphabetical to start with, so the Captain begins.
  80. [17:36] * Briggs is in the Captain's Quarters, balancing the books and working out her plans for Caephlynn.
  81. [17:36] <+Briggs> [OOC: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AgAvSz2UVEebdGhKVXRpRHVwNEh5aU40VTVneDhnLVE&usp=drive_web#gid=0 a map of the ship]
  82. [17:36] * fc_mobile ([email protected]) has joined #nesdnd
  83. [17:36] <fc_mobile> http://i.imgur.com/1RdecM6.jpg
  84. [17:37] <@DM> hehe
  85. [17:37] <@DM> nice
  86. [17:37] <Alessa> (dupe so i might not miss stuff
  87. [17:37] <@DM> okay, Doruk, what are you up to?
  88. [17:37] * Doruk is on the deck, helping with rigging or otherwise keeping to himself.
  89. [17:37] * Ratzenberger nervously surveys his cramped alchemy lab, checking to see everything is in order
  90. [17:37] <+Lien> [way to go out of turn, azale]
  91. [17:37] <@DM> luckily, the rigging is mostly in order now. You stand to the side, watching the waves go by.
  92. [17:37] <+Ratzenberger> [woops]
  93. [17:38] <@DM> When you first saw the sea, it was astoundingly large. The sailors tell you in a few days, you won't be able to see land on any side.
  94. [17:38] <@DM> You're not sure if they're messing with you.
  95. [17:38] * Doruk is deeply concerned by the deep water.
  96. [17:38] <@DM> Lien, how goes not caring about anything?
  97. [17:38] <+Doruk> [DEEPLY DEEP]
  98. [17:38] * DM sets mode +v Alessa for #nesdnd
  99. [17:38] * Lien is reading the treatise "Commentary on Decline in Water Levels of the Sellyck Sea" for the seventeenth time. The pages are covered in marginalia of Lien's own notes since taking ship, mostly something to pass the time.
  100. [17:39] * Lien is bored.
  101. [17:39] <+Alessa> is busy gussying up and communing with the unknown force of Trickery through her pet scorpion, Heather, also writing in her journal about how wonderful it is to be out at sea
  102. [17:39] <@DM> interestingly, the Sellyck Sea HAS fallen in water levels for some time -- though certainly nothing like the first great Drought that struck this world.
  103. [17:39] <@DM> No one is sure what or where has caused this.
  104. [17:40] <+Lien> Or who.
  105. [17:40] <@DM> true, or who
  106. [17:40] <@DM> do you keep to your quarters?
  107. [17:40] <+Lien> Yes.
  108. [17:40] * Rick is watching the passangers with interest from the Crow's nest, sweating slighty from the hard rigging work he did earlier.
  109. [17:40] <@DM> Ratzenberg.
  110. [17:40] <@DM> your lab is in order
  111. [17:40] <@DM> huzzah
  112. [17:41] <+Alessa> owns a groming kit unlike you plebs who probably dont even own as much as a bar of soap
  113. [17:41] * Ratzenberger is relieved, but apprehensive
  114. [17:41] <@DM> Rick watches the other passengers, though he can only really see Doruk, staring at the water, openmouthed.
  115. [17:41] * Doruk 's raven locks sway in the sea breeze.
  116. [17:41] * Lien can conjure fresh water whenever he wants.
  117. [17:41] <@DM> most of the rest are belowdeck, figuring out their own cabins.
  118. [17:41] <+Briggs> [Typing with this implies that you're being OOC. If you don't use these, or /me, you're assumed to be talking]
  119. [17:41] <@DM> And Wind, what are you up to?
  120. [17:41] <+Alessa> you cant conjure soap :0
  121. [17:42] <+Lien> [I still think that speaking should be in quotes with /me]
  122. [17:42] <@DM> [fc doesn't have an actual computer for this session]
  123. [17:42] * Wind meditates on the deck, in a corner so as to avoid getting in the way of the crew. He had never seen the sea before, and hoped that on this great expanse he might find the wisdom the Elders at the monastery had told him to seek.
  124. [17:42] <@DM> Wind does, of course, already feel as though he is enlightened.
  125. [17:42] <+Wind> [ugh mixing tenses, oops]
  126. [17:43] <@DM> But there is something very different about the salt spray than your mountain home. You are not so open about your amazement as Doruk, however.
  127. [17:43] <+Alessa> can I see anyone from my cabin
  128. [17:43] <+Briggs> [Your cabin is basically a hammock in the hold]
  129. [17:43] * Rick is now practicing sketching on a chalkboard, trying to capture the majesty of Doruk's open mouth
  130. [17:44] <+Lien> [you have a chalkboard in the crow's nest?]
  131. [17:44] <@DM> [there are other passengers around you, but they all seem to be keeping to themselves]
  132. [17:44] <+Alessa> I give them the Evil Eye while theyre not looking for shits and giggles
  133. [17:44] <+Briggs> [presumably a small slate that he's scratching]
  134. [17:44] <+Rick> [Yes, and a journal as well]
  135. [17:44] <@DM> [it's a very fancy crow's nest]
  136. [17:44] <@DM> [state of the art]
  137. [17:44] <+Alessa> -2 to skill checks
  138. [17:44] <@DM> Alright.
  139. [17:44] <@DM> lol
  140. [17:44] * Wind now in the back of his mind is beginning to see what the Elders meant when they spoke of the enormity of the world. Perhaps there is yet more to learn.
  141. [17:45] <+Lien> [there's isn't]
  142. [17:45] <@DM> The voyage to Caephlyn will take something like ten days, even with the favorable winds.
  143. [17:45] <@DM> We're going to skip /most/ of those days, assuming you don't have something specific to do on each one.
  144. [17:46] <@DM> However, let's go through one day, just to get a feel for the interactions between the cast and crew.
  145. [17:46] * Doruk thinks the sun is hot and the breeze smells funky.
  146. [17:46] <+Alessa> then I just literally giggle, Cackle if you wil, for like a few minutes so their bad luck stays with them for like an hour
  147. [17:46] <+Briggs> [Nothing beyond the routine of meeting with my officers, ensuring that the ship's operating smoothly, and dealing with any disciplinary issues that might arise with the crew]
  148. [17:46] * Rick will wait until lunch, spending the rest of the morning adjusting the rigging and humming to myself
  149. [17:46] <+Briggs> Alright
  150. [17:46] <@DM> The crew are remarkably well behaved. Nothing seems to be the matter at all, and they are taking full advantage of this by relaxing.
  151. [17:47] <+Ratzenberger> [sleep, read, sleep, read, go out on deck when necessary]
  152. [17:47] <+Doruk> [I'll hang out on the deck, because being below deck is too cramped for Doruk]
  153. [17:47] * Briggs starts a day by waking up early in the morning, and getting Rosie Sutton in the Galley to make her a pot of Pepper Tea.
  154. [17:47] <@DM> Some of the less worldly passengers stop and stare at the Doctor, astounded by his almost alien form.
  155. [17:48] * Lien meditates for one hour on nothingness, and feeling refreshed in his faith, decides to take the air.
  156. [17:48] <+Alessa> I survey the shipmwith detect magic, thoroughly
  157. [17:48] * Ratzenberger would be worried if humans DIDN'T stare
  158. [17:48] <+Alessa> what magics do I find
  159. [17:48] * Doruk stands silently by Ratzenberger when he's on deck, watching fish swim in the wake of the ship.
  160. [17:48] * Briggs usually eats breakfast before the rest of the crew, then proceeds to run her own inspection of the ship's hull, rigging and sails, just to double check that her first mate, Mr. Holt, has done his job correctly.
  161. [17:48] <@DM> this is a thoroughly nonmagical ship, though there are some magic potions in the Alchemist's lab.
  162. [17:48] <+Briggs> [Also there's some magical illumination]
  163. [17:49] <@DM> true
  164. [17:49] * Wind had risen at first light and eaten a small breakfast before beginning his own meditation. He cannot help but note the serenity of the Elf, who in embracing nothingness had seemed to find some sort of peace.
  165. [17:49] * Lien sees the monk rudely staring at him and instead walks towards the ratfolk and the large human who have the dignity to stare at the horizon.
  166. [17:50] * Doruk spends a couple of free hours practicing with his five foot greatsword, to stay in shape.
  167. [17:50] * Briggs completes her survey of the ship, and finds it to be in good sailing order.
  168. [17:50] * Rick was on the lookout for the last watch, his fellow rigging-mate Davie dropping off to bed several hours earlier. He loves to watch to sun rise over the boundless seas
  169. [17:50] * Briggs approaches Doruk (from in front, to avoid decapitation)
  170. [17:50] <+Rick> [Briggs, I sent you a message]
  171. [17:50] <+Briggs> "So, Doruk Barrenlander, has the sea been to your liking?"
  172. [17:51] * Doruk slowly stops swinging the sword.
  173. [17:51] * Doruk hesitates
  174. [17:51] <+Doruk> "Yes, Ma'am, it has."
  175. [17:51] * Doruk doesn't make eye contact.
  176. [17:51] <+Briggs> "Hmm."
  177. [17:51] * Briggs smirks slightly.
  178. [17:52] <+Briggs> "Usually mainlanders have to deal with a few days of crippling, vomiting sickness before they acclimatize."
  179. [17:52] * Doruk nods, but doesn't speak.
  180. [17:52] * DM sets topic to: The Ailing Earth: Session 1: To Caephlyn http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R7yfISlGLNU
  181. [17:52] <+Briggs> "If I need your assistance moving bags in the hold, Mr. Holt will speak with you."
  182. [17:52] * Briggs departs.
  183. [17:52] * Lien stands next to the ratfolk, not indecorous enough to say anything but mildly interested enough to see he is an educated creature.
  184. [17:52] <+Doruk> "Yes, Ma'am."
  185. [17:53] <+Doruk> you only hear it as a mumble
  186. [17:53] <+Doruk> [:p]
  187. [17:53] <+Alessa> ailing earth reminds me of final fantasy with the dying elemental crystals
  188. [17:53] * Rick watches the elf and the ratfolk with interest, questions burning on his lips: he's too well-mannered to interrupt them when they're together though
  189. [17:53] * Ratzenberger hold his head high, eyes closed, trying not to dwell on the water damage that will inevitably accrue on his meticulously collected books
  190. [17:54] * Lien "Where do you come from, thaumaturge?"
  191. [17:54] <+Ratzenberger> "The college"
  192. [17:55] * Lien "And before?"
  193. [17:55] <+Ratzenberger> "It hardly matters, where all rats come from"
  194. [17:55] <+Alessa> is bored so she tries to have some trysts with the manly sailors
  195. [17:55] * Rick tries to hear their conversation. If they are too far away, I will try to sneak down the rigging. Besides, it was Adelaide's turn on top midmorning anyway. But she was too busy with her father with some barrels.
  196. [17:56] * Lien "Can you speak to other rats? Small ones, that is."
  197. [17:56] <@DM> they are too far away, you sneak down the rigging
  198. [17:56] <@DM> unsubtly
  199. [17:56] <@DM> they probably notice
  200. [17:56] <+Ratzenberger> "Sure, I just have to make my voice real squaky"
  201. [17:56] <+Ratzenberger> squeaky*
  202. [17:56] * Lien notices the awkward sweaty human, but obviously says nothing.
  203. [17:56] <+Ratzenberger> [i honestly dont know the answer to that[
  204. [17:57] <+Rick> ?roll 1d20+3
  205. [17:57] <tBot> Rick: 18 ([15] +3)
  206. [17:57] <+Alessa> how do they react to being propositioned by what appears to be a six--eighteen year old short girl with devil horns and a tail
  207. [17:57] <+Lien> [you really want to make an elf roll a perception check?]
  208. [17:57] <+Alessa> also smells of sulfure
  209. [17:57] <+Ratzenberger> "Where does the elf come from? Do you plan on being injured often?"
  210. [17:57] <+Briggs> [6-18, or 16-18? :O]
  211. [17:57] <+Rick> [no?]
  212. [17:57] <+Doruk> [she changes shape to mess with men]
  213. [17:58] * Lien "I am from the Empire, north of the Rift."
  214. [17:58] * Lien "I do not intend on being injured, and if I am, I assure you I will not require your services."
  215. [17:58] <+Alessa> also her skin is like light brown with a strong hint of red
  216. [17:58] <@DM> well, Alessa, they wouldn't really notice the smell, being in a rather smelly ship.
  217. [17:59] <@DM> but they seem put off by the suggestion. Possibly because it's a very small and public place, the hold.
  218. [17:59] * Rick whispers to himself "the Empire..."
  219. [17:59] <+Alessa> I can cast darkness
  220. [17:59] <+Alessa> I tell them
  221. [17:59] * Lien says loudly, throwing his voice backwards, "I agree, humans do taste the best, good day to you mister rat."
  222. [18:00] * Ratzenberger laughs
  223. [18:00] <+Alessa> trying the whisper while miming licking their ears with my long tongue
  224. [18:00] * Lien makes brief eye contact with Rick on his way back to the hold.
  225. [18:00] * Doruk looks over his shoulder at the human eating talk.
  226. [18:00] <@DM> they are... somewhat disturbed, and seem to vacate the area rather quickly.
  227. [18:00] * Rick sighs and nods
  228. [18:00] <+Lien> [or the quarters, wherever those are]
  229. [18:00] <+Briggs> [on the main deck, next to the captain's room]
  230. [18:00] <@DM> [your quarters are in the aftcastle]
  231. [18:00] <+Alessa> I touch their buttholes with my tail
  232. [18:01] <+Alessa> as they shuffle away
  233. [18:01] <+Briggs> [yes, in the aftcastle. it's labeled on the map]
  234. [18:01] * Rick makes his way to Ratzenberger
  235. [18:01] <+Alessa> if they look back I wink
  236. [18:01] <@DM> they seem more startled than anything else
  237. [18:01] <+Rick> "Good morn for sailing, mister."
  238. [18:01] * Briggs is at the tiller with Officer Chandler, enjoying the breeze and good weather.
  239. [18:02] <+Ratzenberger> "I suppose. Good for eating humans too, if you're into that *laughs*"
  240. [18:02] <+Ratzenberger> "I saw you drawing earlier, are you an artist?"
  241. [18:02] <+Alessa> I go around and find Doruk and try to chat him up, q helllo mister, whats yourrr name
  242. [18:02] <+Rick> "Well, I try. I want to save all the wonders I see in my book."
  243. [18:03] * Ratzenberger fumbles around for something his pocket
  244. [18:03] * Ratzenberger thinks better of it
  245. [18:03] * Doruk nearly trips over his own feet to back away from the witch.
  246. [18:03] * Doruk looks at her horns.
  247. [18:03] <+Ratzenberger> "Hmm, well, that is a noble goal. I'll ask you what I asked the troublemaking elf. Do you plan on being injured often?"
  248. [18:03] * Rick chuckles
  249. [18:03] <+Doruk> "Mmm"
  250. [18:03] * Doruk shakes his head.
  251. [18:04] * Ratzenberger looks the Bard over
  252. [18:04] <+Rick> "Well sir, injuries are rarely planned. Still, I do have a problem I..."
  253. [18:04] * Rick blushes and looks away
  254. [18:04] <+Rick> "Nevermind."
  255. [18:04] * Doruk gulps.
  256. [18:04] <+Doruk> "Boxes... carry boxes..."
  257. [18:04] * Doruk walks around Alessa.
  258. [18:04] * Rick hums a little tune and twiddles his thumbs a bit
  259. [18:05] <+Alessa> follows Doruk with her tail
  260. [18:05] <+Ratzenberger> "Is it serious?"
  261. [18:05] <+Rick> "No, but from what I've heard it gets worse as I age."
  262. [18:05] <+Alessa> lets her scorpion Heather crawl along her tail
  263. [18:05] <+Rick> "It will destroy everything I know and love, and change who I am forever."
  264. [18:05] <+Briggs> I'll roll a perception check to see if I notice the witch trying to molest the crew.
  265. [18:05] <+Alessa> towards the fighter
  266. [18:05] <+Ratzenberger> "If it would effect the crew, it is my responsibility as a doctor to know. If it would not effect the crew, it is my responsibility as a scholar"
  267. [18:06] <+Rick> "I... I..." looks down "I guess you really want to know then?"
  268. [18:06] <+Briggs> ?roll 1d20+1
  269. [18:06] <tBot> Briggs: 15 ([14] +1)
  270. [18:06] <+Ratzenberger> [can i roll something to get the info out of him? or is it already well known?]
  271. [18:06] * Lien decides that being bored watching the sea is better than being bored reading the same five books thirty times.
  272. [18:06] <+Lien> [seems like you can probably still ask him at this stage]
  273. [18:06] <+Ratzenberger> "I think that would be best"
  274. [18:06] <@DM> [well I'd rather you just talk it out of him normally]
  275. [18:06] <+Alessa> mister, its incredibly rude to ignore a sweet little girlll
  276. [18:07] <+Rick> "Well, sir, when... when I..." sighs, "I'll show you" begins signing a little ditty
  277. [18:07] * Doruk is fucking terrified of this witch.
  278. [18:07] <@DM> [and Alessa you can make a stealth check to avoid being seen by Briggs]
  279. [18:07] <@DM> [but I think she notices]
  280. [18:07] <+Alessa> plus five
  281. [18:07] <+Lien> I'll also roll perception as I walk out onto the deck.
  282. [18:07] <+Alessa> os my stealth
  283. [18:07] * Ratzenberger 's hears perk up, like a distressed cat
  284. [18:07] * Doruk fumbles around with ropes and boxes to look busy, hoping that someone will stop this.
  285. [18:07] <+Lien> ?roll 1d20+5
  286. [18:07] <tBot> Lien: 15 ([10] +5)
  287. [18:07] <+Ratzenberger> "Dear god, what is that coming out of your mouth?"
  288. [18:07] <+Rick> "I walked alone in foggy dew?Just me and my memories/A voice out seaward beckons thru"
  289. [18:08] <+Alessa> she notices haha
  290. [18:08] <@DM> yeah
  291. [18:08] * Briggs "Witch."
  292. [18:08] * Rick 's voice suddenly cracks, ripping the crytal high note in twain
  293. [18:08] * Rick rubs his throat and coughs a bit
  294. [18:08] <+Alessa> lets Doruk go and glides towards the captain
  295. [18:08] * Briggs "You've paid for passage, not for the right to harass my crew."
  296. [18:08] <+Alessa> standing uncomfortably close
  297. [18:08] * Briggs is standing at the top of the stairs.
  298. [18:08] * Briggs looks down at you with a frown.
  299. [18:09] <+Ratzenberger> "I'm a doctor, not a wizard. If you want something done about that..."
  300. [18:09] * Briggs "Now cease making a bother of yourself."
  301. [18:09] <+Alessa> oh, alright, she says, cocking ner head to one side to punctuate, sidestepping that way
  302. [18:09] * Doruk is relieved.
  303. [18:09] <+Rick> "It starts with those songs, I can barely sing them anymore. I... I heard from a healing lady that a demon takes command of my manhood and makes me grow into an ape if I touch it."
  304. [18:10] <+Rick> "I... I wanted to"
  305. [18:10] <+Alessa> my tail air caresses the captain without touching her
  306. [18:10] * Rick mutters "chop it off..."
  307. [18:10] <+Alessa> as she walks away
  308. [18:10] * Rick drumms his fingers on the side of the ship, deeply embarassed
  309. [18:10] <+Ratzenberger> "What was that? You'll need to speak up"
  310. [18:10] * Lien walks up the steps to the forecastle on the opposite side. "Do infernals and humans traffic often on this side of the Rift?" Lien is holding what looks like a staff.
  311. [18:11] * Briggs mutters and talks to her helmsman "I knew it was a mistake to let that thing aboard. Never again, Mr. Chandler, never again."
  312. [18:11] <+Lien> [addressing the captain]
  313. [18:11] * Rick mutters again, a little louder "I want to chop my... my manhood off... Sir."
  314. [18:11] * DM "Aye, miss."
  315. [18:11] <+Briggs> "I've not had the misfortune of dealing with an infernal before, so no Master Elf, this is not frequent."
  316. [18:11] <+Ratzenberger> "Ahh, perfectly normal. Not sure how much I can do about that. If it would help your singing it might be a good idea"
  317. [18:11] <+Ratzenberger> "That was a joke"
  318. [18:11] * Doruk has been molested by a witch, heard about eating humans, and now castration. He has had enough insight into southern customs for today.
  319. [18:12] <@DM> [what does Doruk do?]
  320. [18:12] <+Ratzenberger> "What else do you do?
  321. [18:12] <+Ratzenberger> "
  322. [18:12] <+Ratzenberger> [sorry if im out of turn]
  323. [18:12] * Doruk retreats to the front of the deck to get away from everyone.
  324. [18:12] * Lien shrugs. "The magic to summon their kind is banned in the Empire. Don't you wonder what happened to her summoner?"
  325. [18:12] * Rick decides that being embarassed is worth his questions; after all, the customer first
  326. [18:12] <@DM> [I think we can keep track of it if there's only two conversations going on]
  327. [18:12] <+Doruk> [I don't know ship section names]
  328. [18:12] <+Alessa> Writes in her journal how terribly uneventful the trip has been, and how boring the so called men are
  329. [18:12] <+Briggs> "Death by overstimulation, most likely."
  330. [18:13] * Lien almost smiles.
  331. [18:13] <+Briggs> [forecastle is the word, Doruk]
  332. [18:13] <@DM> [in fairness, we're still only in day one of the voyage]
  333. [18:13] <@DM> [it will presumably get more boring for Alessa]
  334. [18:13] <+Rick> "Well, other than drawing and singing, I'm trained in the tales of the Verdant Shore by the Stevespochen."
  335. [18:13] <+Alessa> haha
  336. [18:13] * Lien "If it becomes disruptive to our safety, please be prepared."
  337. [18:13] <+Alessa> tries to make conversation with the ratman
  338. [18:14] <+Rick> "that's this great big caravan I lived in before I joined the Three Crosses, Sir."
  339. [18:14] <@DM> [the ratman is currently talking to Rick]
  340. [18:14] * Ratzenberger ;s eyebrows shift
  341. [18:14] <+Rick> "I was known for being the 'caravan's boy' and having the sweetest voice a boy could have"
  342. [18:14] * Doruk is glad everyone is busy leaving him alone.
  343. [18:14] <+Rick> "Stupid demons."
  344. [18:14] * Wind approaches Doruk from his corner of the deck
  345. [18:14] <@DM> [I'm going to let this go for a couple more minutes and then move on, fyi]
  346. [18:14] * Doruk sighs
  347. [18:14] <+Alessa> sneaks about and tries to eavesdrop
  348. [18:14] <+Wind> "Seems you've had an interesting day, Barbarian"
  349. [18:14] <+Alessa> plus five
  350. [18:14] <+Briggs> "I've dealt with problematic passengers in the past, Master Elf, I am rarely unprepared."
  351. [18:14] <+Wind> "We've both traveled a long way, you and I"
  352. [18:15] <+Briggs> "Should I call you Lien, or do you have a different title you prefer?"
  353. [18:15] <+Ratzenberger> "Interesting. So what did the Captain want with you?"
  354. [18:15] <+Doruk> "What do you mean by that?" he says to Wind.
  355. [18:15] <+Alessa> ?roll 1d20+5
  356. [18:15] <tBot> Alessa: 6 ([1] +5)
  357. [18:15] <+Alessa> haha
  358. [18:15] <@DM> Alessa, you hear nothing. Sad times. :(
  359. [18:15] * Lien frowns. "Master Elf, or Ambassador, if you will, Captain."
  360. [18:15] <+Wind> "You are from the north as well, are you not?
  361. [18:15] <+Wind> "
  362. [18:16] <+Briggs> "Of course."
  363. [18:16] * Doruk is silent for a moment, thinking of what to say.
  364. [18:16] <+Rick> "Well, I can entertain the crew and passangers. Also, I'm very good with the riggings, sir."
  365. [18:16] <+Doruk> "Rihadman, yes."
  366. [18:16] <+Doruk> [rahid]
  367. [18:16] <+Doruk> [forgot his own madeup words]
  368. [18:16] <@DM> [hehe]
  369. [18:16] <+Rick> "Infact, if you want I can take you up to the Crow's nest, and we can take a look around. It really is another world up there, sir."
  370. [18:16] <+Wind> "What brings you this far south then?"
  371. [18:17] <+Doruk> "Life."
  372. [18:17] <+Ratzenberger> "Ahh, all the things I am terrible at, unless seeing a limb sautered off with an acid solution is your idea of entertainment. 6 years of college, 6 years!"
  373. [18:17] <+Ratzenberger> "I...."
  374. [18:17] <+Ratzenberger> "I'm not sure....hmm, fine, why not"
  375. [18:17] * Rick decides to use the silence to ask his first question
  376. [18:18] <@DM> Ratzenberger and Rick climb to the crow's nest
  377. [18:18] <@DM> in this weather, it's an easy climb
  378. [18:18] <@DM> you can see for miles in every direction, so clear is the day.
  379. [18:18] <+Ratzenberger> [so romantic]
  380. [18:18] <@DM> To the north, you can see the gentle slopes of the lands around Denrae still
  381. [18:18] * Lien "Captain, have you been to the college of Caephlyn?"
  382. [18:18] <@DM> to the south, of course, there is only the sea.
  383. [18:18] * Ratzenberger would like to pretend the penis-hating bard was someone else
  384. [18:19] <@DM> sadly, he is not, and he is still the penis hating bard.
  385. [18:19] * Rick does not notice, but still allows him several moments just to enjoy
  386. [18:19] <+Rick> [also, I'm a demon hating bard. I'll ask Lien to exorcise my penis eventually.]
  387. [18:19] <@DM> Doruk seems to be rebuffing Wind's attempts to speak to him. The monk doesn't quite understand; he felt as though the two northerners would have the most in common, but he doesn't seem to be in the mood to talk.
  388. [18:19] <+Wind> "Life? Concise, I suppose, though vague enough to be true for anyone here"
  389. [18:20] <+Rick> [It's getting larger! IT'S ATTACKING MY MIND!]
  390. [18:20] * Lien yawns. "Or any other college, for that matter."
  391. [18:20] <+Ratzenberger> [I caught that, though ratz might take it mostly as ramblings
  392. [18:20] <+Ratzenberger> ]
  393. [18:20] <+Briggs> "The College of Caephlyn? I've been to it, yes."
  394. [18:20] <+Briggs> "Never for more than business."
  395. [18:21] <@DM> The sun has definitely passed into the western sky, now, and in about an hour's time, it will be supper.
  396. [18:21] * Doruk ([email protected]) Quit ( Ping timeout: 121 seconds )
  397. [18:21] * Alessa ([email protected]) Quit ( Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client )
  398. [18:21] * Lien "And have you ever seen a non-human student?"
  399. [18:21] <+Briggs> "An odd little temple of cloistered wizards and alchemists, and a handful of useful people."
  400. [18:21] * tBot ([email protected]) Quit ( Ping timeout: 121 seconds )
  401. [18:21] <+Rick> [Briggs, look at your pmw]
  402. [18:21] * Doruk ([email protected]) has joined #nesdnd
  403. [18:21] <+Briggs> "Dwarves, I've seen a few. Why do you ask?"
  404. [18:22] <@DM> [for the record, the college has a magical branch, but it actually has a couple more nonmagic branches]
  405. [18:22] * DM sets mode +v Doruk for #nesdnd
  406. [18:22] <+Doruk> [the one day my internet is being stupid as fuck]
  407. [18:22] <@DM> [yep]
  408. [18:22] * tBot ([email protected]) has joined #nesdnd
  409. [18:22] <+Wind> "I think I shall return to my meditations, it has been good speaking to you. I'll leave you be, Barbarian"
  410. [18:22] * Lien shakes his head, his eyes flicking up to the crow's nest. "Never mind."
  411. [18:22] <+Doruk> [what was the last thing I said?]
  412. [18:22] * Lien "This is a strange ship."
  413. [18:22] <+Wind> ["Life"]
  414. [18:23] <+Doruk> "To prove myself, mystic."
  415. [18:23] <+Doruk> [was the next line]
  416. [18:23] <+Wind> oh
  417. [18:23] * Alessa ([email protected]) has joined #nesdnd
  418. [18:23] * DM sets mode +v Alessa for #nesdnd
  419. [18:23] <+Briggs> "Have you traveled by sea before, Master Elf?"
  420. [18:23] <+Briggs> "Ships can be odd places to those unfamiliar with such travel."
  421. [18:23] <+Wind> [scratch what i said earlier then]
  422. [18:23] * Alessa ([email protected]) Quit ( Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client )
  423. [18:23] <+Doruk> [this is why I wanted someone else to take tbot just in case]
  424. [18:23] <+Wind> "And how will you go about that?"
  425. [18:24] * Lien "I am referring to its inhabitants."
  426. [18:24] * Rick takes the opportunity to write in his journal. He respects Ratzenberger enough to not interrupt him as he enjoys the beautiful sea.
  427. [18:24] <fc_mobile> thankfully im not missing anything
  428. [18:24] <+Doruk> "Not dying, mystic, and claiming a trophy worthy of my people."
  429. [18:24] <+Briggs> "The sea draws types who are trying to get away from things, Ambassador."
  430. [18:24] * Ratzenberger can't help but be taken in by the beauty of his surroundings. He'll have plenty of time to miss it whne he's cramped in his lab below deck.
  431. [18:24] <@DM> [let me know when you guys are ready to move on]
  432. [18:25] * Rick is a little cross though, that he didn't get to ask any questions of his own. However, he decided when he was done he indeed, learned many things today
  433. [18:25] * Alessa ([email protected]) has joined #nesdnd
  434. [18:25] <@DM> [I assume Lien, Briggs, and Alessa are there]
  435. [18:25] <+Briggs> "Perhaps that's what you see."
  436. [18:25] <+Rick> [I finished]
  437. [18:25] * DM sets mode +v Alessa for #nesdnd
  438. [18:25] <+Ratzenberger> [I'm ready]
  439. [18:25] * Lien "And the creature that claims to have been trained at the college."
  440. [18:25] * Lien "Good day, captain."
  441. [18:25] <fc_mobile> im ready haha
  442. [18:25] <+Lien> [ready]
  443. [18:25] <+Doruk> [I can just assume I talked to Wind, and thus be ready]
  444. [18:25] <+Wind> "Trophies, heh, we may both be from the north, but we are not that alike, Barbarian. I shall return to my meditations; it has been good speaking to you"
  445. [18:26] <+Wind> [Yep I'm done[
  446. [18:26] <+Wind> ]
  447. [18:26] * Briggs raises her eyebrows as Lien leaves, and contemplates how Ratzenberger ended up learning alchemy and medicine.
  448. [18:26] <+Briggs> [done]
  449. [18:26] <@DM> The hour begins to grow late, alas. The crew begins to gather in the mess for their dinner. They've only been out of the port for half a day, of course, and so there's still a palatable dinner -- a stew of beef and lentils, simmered with black peppercorns from the Red Kingdom, and a fluffy bread from one of the port's bakeries, a little rough but still good. Rosie heated up the loaves a little before the meal, so they're particularly good]
  450. [18:26] <+Doruk> [beg the internet gods that my internet stays up]
  451. [18:27] * Lien joins the captain at her table for dinner, making the necessary small talk.
  452. [18:27] <@DM> The mess itself is fairly tiny, so most grab their meals and then eat elsewhere, many of them on the main deck, so level is the sea.
  453. [18:28] <+Briggs> "Have you ever seen a sunset over the sea before, Master Elf?"
  454. [18:28] <@DM> As the sun sinks towards the horizon, the gold of evening and nightfall washes across the sky, beginning to paint the wispy cirrus clouds a thousand shakes of pink.
  455. [18:28] <+Briggs> [wait, in which direction does the sun set?]
  456. [18:28] * Ratzenberger takes his meal to his quarters
  457. [18:28] <@DM> [west]
  458. [18:28] * Lien "Over seas, mountains, plains, forests, and deserts."
  459. [18:29] * Lien "Humans seem to like to tell me that as long as I live, I'll never see two alike. Is that where you're going with this?"
  460. [18:29] <+Briggs> "No."
  461. [18:29] <@DM> As it settles, you can see a flash of green, for the barest instant. And above it, a single, lonely star.
  462. [18:29] <+Doruk> [is eating with ratzenberger]
  463. [18:29] <+Briggs> "I merely like to watch it."
  464. [18:29] <+Ratzenberger> [ok wait, i can retcon that lol]
  465. [18:29] * Rick sings during/after dinner to entertain the guests
  466. [18:29] * Lien "Why?"
  467. [18:29] <+Briggs> "I like to know that the sunset is there every night."
  468. [18:30] * Briggs ponders for a moment.
  469. [18:30] * Alessa ([email protected]) Quit ( Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client )
  470. [18:30] * Ratzenberger has no space in his quarters, eating is a hassle. He goes to the deck to enjoy his meal
  471. [18:30] * Lien "Do you?"
  472. [18:30] <+Briggs> "Familiarity, I suppose. I can count on it."
  473. [18:30] * Lien smiles. "And yet there's nothing to tell you that the sun won't rise in the morning. Or that it will rise black."
  474. [18:30] <+Briggs> "Many things may change, but the sun does not, and in the evening and at dawn, she puts on her show for us."
  475. [18:30] * Alessa ([email protected]) has joined #nesdnd
  476. [18:31] * DM sets mode +v Alessa for #nesdnd
  477. [18:31] * Doruk doesn't talk to the Doc, but nods and smiles while eating bread. He has to fight with his long hair from time to time while leaning over to eat.
  478. [18:31] <@DM> As the last few meals are slurped out of the wooden bowls, the sky darkens, becoming a faint, pink pastel.
  479. [18:31] <+Briggs> "Well, perhaps you'll forgive my leap of faith in expecting it to rise the next morning."
  480. [18:31] <+Briggs> "In my brief human life, it hasn't failed yet- that's good enough for me."
  481. [18:31] * Lien "As long as you will forgive my leap of faith in knowing it might not."
  482. [18:31] <fc_mobile> tabbing around makes safari reload pages qq
  483. [18:32] <@DM> [incidentally, I know DnD elves aren't technically immortal, but they are on this world]
  484. [18:32] <@DM> [just for CANON'S sake]
  485. [18:32] * Lien "But I am glad you have your light, Captain, for however long it lasts."
  486. [18:32] <+Briggs> "Forgiven, of course."
  487. [18:32] * Ratzenberger finds it odd that the giant with the sword is the most likeable he has yet encountered on this ship. Perhaps he could make this a habit
  488. [18:32] * Lien "I would prefer not to drown."
  489. [18:32] <+Briggs> "Why thank you."
  490. [18:32] * Wind goes to the deck with his bread and soup. There had never been meat at the Monastery, and he had no desire to try it now. He went to the deck to see the rat and the barbarian
  491. [18:32] <+Rick> [I'm just sad I didn't get to annoy Lien]
  492. [18:32] <@DM> Alright.
  493. [18:32] <+Briggs> "And I too would prefer not to die."
  494. [18:32] <@DM> So passed your first day!
  495. [18:32] <@DM> Congratulations!
  496. [18:32] * Doruk wishes he could grow a beard like Ratzenberger.
  497. [18:33] <@DM> +5 XP to everyone
  498. [18:33] <+Ratzenberger> [yesssss]
  499. [18:33] <+Lien> totally adding that
  500. [18:33] <@DM> go right ahead
  501. [18:33] <+Alessa> feels strangely empowered
  502. [18:33] <+Wind> "I fear that meat is not to my taste. Rat, barbarian, do you want mine?"
  503. [18:33] * Rick thinks back on all he has learned that day
  504. [18:33] <@DM> the next few days will pass in a similar fashion, the crew falling back into a comfortable rhythm with the passengers.
  505. [18:33] <+Alessa> Heather whispers gibberish into her ear
  506. [18:34] * Doruk doesn't speak up, but is hurt by the name calling.
  507. [18:34] * Doruk takes the meat.
  508. [18:34] <+Doruk> [rat and barbarian sounds like nigger and chink to me]
  509. [18:34] <+Doruk> [:(]
  510. [18:34] * Rick eventually gets to talk with as many passangers as possible, although many obviously asked him to leave and left him answerless
  511. [18:34] <@DM> Admittedly, all is not fun and games, not truly. Alessa the witch seems to be fond of harrassing the rest of the passengers, though she will always desist if pressed on it by the Captain, who is starting to wonder why she let all this happen in the first place.
  512. [18:34] * Briggs sees to it that Doruk learns how to tie several knots, so that he might be of some more use when we disembark at Caephlyn.
  513. [18:35] <+Wind> [can i roll to perceive that they're offened? I don't know these people sensibilities]
  514. [18:35] <@DM> [if you like. Or you can RP it either way.]
  515. [18:35] <+Briggs> [perception would be the roll]
  516. [18:35] <+Ratzenberger> [are we supposed to avoid making actions when the DM is narrating?"
  517. [18:35] <+Ratzenberger> ]
  518. [18:35] <+Wind> [eh i'll just RP]
  519. [18:35] <@DM> [yesssssss. :p]
  520. [18:35] <+Wind> [oops sorry]
  521. [18:35] <@DM> it's okay!
  522. [18:36] <+Alessa> behaves as more rules are made explicit, its in her nature to take contacts and compacts seriously, though she would skirt about it as much as she could
  523. [18:36] <@DM> Rick likes to talk to EVERYONE, because it seems like EVERYONE has had a fun and interesting life to him. Particularly the elf, whose affected boredom seems designed to conceal what is obviously a ridiculously entertaining previous experience.
  524. [18:37] <@DM> Undoubtedly, these are a fun few days for everyone else, who gets to be entertained by the conversation.
  525. [18:37] * Briggs sees to it that Alessa understands that touching unwilling people is not acceptable while on the boat, particularly if they are crew.
  526. [18:37] * Briggs appends that Doruk is crew.
  527. [18:37] <@DM> Wind tries to make friend with the rat and the barbarian as best he can, and though he makes a few missteps early on, they're willing to give him a couple of second chances. The three bond as lovable misfits.
  528. [18:38] <+Ratzenberger> [ :D ]
  529. [18:38] * tBot ([email protected]) Quit ( Ping timeout: 121 seconds )
  530. [18:38] * Doruk ([email protected]) Quit ( Ping timeout: 121 seconds )
  531. [18:38] <@DM> But it is all the way to the seventh day that we continue now.
  532. [18:39] * Doruk ([email protected]) has joined #nesdnd
  533. [18:39] <Doruk> [UGH]
  534. [18:39] * DM sets mode +v Doruk for #nesdnd
  535. [18:39] <@DM> Caephlyn is only three days away by boat, and it seems that the voyage has been shorter than you would have hoped.
  536. [18:39] * tBot ([email protected]) has joined #nesdnd
  537. [18:39] <+Lien> [not I, said the elf]
  538. [18:39] <+Doruk> [my internet never does this]
  539. [18:39] <+Lien> [though briggs has proved surprisingly philosophical for a human commoner]
  540. [18:39] <+Briggs> "You've brought swift winds with you, Master Elf."
  541. [18:40] <@DM> Briggs is happy to note that she will have many of these problematic people off of her ship, but for the others, it is almost a little sad. They made some friends, and it seems like they might have to part ways too soon.
  542. [18:40] <@DM> It is early in the afternoon on the seventh day.
  543. [18:40] <@DM> Where is everyone?
  544. [18:40] * Lien stares directly at the Captain, for the first time during the voyage. "I have enjoyed your company. If you wish, you may address me as Lien-Lai."
  545. [18:40] * Briggs doesn't often speak with distant foreigners or elves, and his interesting views have made for good conversation.
  546. [18:41] * Briggs looks surprised at first, but then meets his glance.
  547. [18:41] * DM snaps fingers. Roll call, where are you all at?
  548. [18:41] <+Lien> what time of day is it?
  549. [18:41] <+Doruk> [I don't know what happened]
  550. [18:41] * Rick is watching the sunrise: if it's past that I would be talking with someone, at the riggings, or composing
  551. [18:41] * Ratzenberger is hundreds of miles away in his mind, pouring over some book perched on his hand as he reads on the deck
  552. [18:41] <@DM> 2 PM
  553. [18:41] <+Briggs> "I too have enjoyed your company, Lien-Lai. I suppose it is only fair then that you should call me Elizabeth, should you so wish."
  554. [18:42] <+Lien> I'm probably on the forecastle with the captain
  555. [18:42] * Briggs is in the aftcastle.
  556. [18:42] <@DM> Alessa? Doruk? Wind?
  557. [18:42] <+Briggs> [aftcastle is where the tiller is]
  558. [18:42] * Lien looks away. "I do not believe I could do that, Captain. But your family name, Briggs, would be acceptable."
  559. [18:42] <+Doruk> [what happened?]
  560. [18:42] * Rick is practicing rapiers with Warren
  561. [18:42] <@DM> where are you right now?
  562. [18:42] <+Ratzenberger> [its the seventh day]
  563. [18:42] <+Doruk> [did we make it to the city]
  564. [18:42] <+Lien> I am next to the captain at the aftcastle
  565. [18:42] * Briggs "Very well."
  566. [18:42] <@DM> [are you SURE you're not in the crow's nest, Rick?]
  567. [18:42] * Wind leans on the railing, watching the ocean. It is in a way more peaceful than meditating with his eyes closed
  568. [18:42] <@DM> [>.>]
  569. [18:43] * Doruk is on the ship
  570. [18:43] <+Rick> [fine, we finished practice early]
  571. [18:43] <+Lien> [briggs you just committed a minor elf culture faux-pas, but obviously you didn't know]
  572. [18:43] <+Rick> "Your swordplay is as wooden as your tongue, get back to work and we'll try again tomorrow."
  573. [18:43] <+Wind> He wished he could remain here forever, for it is as if he is in a small world, contained on the boat, surrounded by peaceful nothingness
  574. [18:43] <+Briggs> [briggs commits human faux pas without noticing it too]
  575. [18:43] * Doruk approaches Briggs after watching for a moment of privacy for a few minutes.
  576. [18:43] <+Wind> [*wished. tenses :/]
  577. [18:43] * fc_mobile ([email protected]) Quit ( Ping timeout: 121 seconds )
  578. [18:43] <+Doruk> "..ma'am"
  579. [18:43] <+Lien> [letting someone call you by your first name is basically equivalent to proposing marriage to them]
  580. [18:44] <+Wind> [**wished]
  581. [18:44] <+Briggs> "Doruk."
  582. [18:44] <+Wind> [wishes]
  583. [18:44] * Rick grumbles and climbs back onto the crow's nest
  584. [18:44] * Alessa ([email protected]) Quit ( Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client )
  585. [18:44] <+Lien> [or rather, the name you were given at birth]
  586. [18:44] <+Doruk> "Would you need me to help unload boxes?"
  587. [18:44] * Doruk looks at his feet
  588. [18:44] <+Briggs> [briggs assumes lien-lai is your birth name]
  589. [18:44] <@DM> you're not at port yet! still a couple days.
  590. [18:44] <+Doruk> "... I have no coin."
  591. [18:44] * fc_mobile ([email protected]) has joined #nesdnd
  592. [18:44] <+Doruk> oh
  593. [18:45] <+Doruk> [well you said we were]
  594. [18:45] <+Doruk> [I missed like five minutes of stuff]
  595. [18:45] * Wind also considers his new...friends as he looks as the sea. He had known few his own age at the monastery, and had no opportunity to make friends with them.
  596. [18:45] <@DM> haha
  597. [18:45] <+Briggs> "Yes, I certainly will need your aid for that, but 'tis still a few days off."
  598. [18:45] <+Ratzenberger> DM Wind tries to make friend with the rat and the barbarian as best he can, and though he makes a few missteps early on, they're willing to give him a couple of second chances. The three bond as lovable misfits.
  599. [18:45] <+Ratzenberger> [did you miss that? ]
  600. [18:45] <@DM> Rick, can you roll perception for me?
  601. [18:45] <+Doruk> [yeah I missed everything]
  602. [18:45] * Alessa ([email protected]) has joined #nesdnd
  603. [18:45] <+Rick> ?roll 1d20
  604. [18:45] <tBot> Rick: 4 [4]
  605. [18:45] <+Doruk> [my last comment was about how calling us rat and barbarian is like calling us niggers]
  606. [18:45] * DM sets mode +v Alessa for #nesdnd
  607. [18:45] <+Lien> (I can also roll perception since I'm on the aftcastle and I'm an elf)
  608. [18:46] <+Rick> [I was distracted by being beaten by Warren thoroughly earlier]
  609. [18:46] <@DM> you can roll perception, but not on what I want him to roll perception on
  610. [18:46] <@DM> he can see further over the horizon, after all.
  611. [18:46] <+Lien> ?roll 1d20+5
  612. [18:46] <tBot> Lien: 9 ([4] +5)
  613. [18:46] <@DM> anyway, you see nothing of interest. You keep composing, only occasionally glancing at the horizon.
  614. [18:46] <+Alessa> is watching the waves with little else to do
  615. [18:46] <+Wind> More and more Wind realizes that the Elders were right, and though he had taken their basic precepts to heart, there may indeed be more to learn of the world. And more especially of the people who live, work, and struggle within it.
  616. [18:47] <+Rick> "The Carpender is suck a dick, his manhood's made of wood"
  617. [18:47] <+Rick> "Bleh, fumbletongue!"
  618. [18:47] <+Briggs> [OOC: there is no way that these ongoing double entendre typos are a coincidence]
  619. [18:47] * Rick stews over his humiliating whipping at the hands
  620. [18:48] <@DM> A few minutes pass, uneventfully.
  621. [18:48] <@DM> Can I have everyone make a perception check.

  645. [18:49] <@DM> haha
  646. [18:49] <+Doruk> oh
  647. [18:49] <+Lien> the first one didn't go through on my thing

  662. [18:49] <+Lien> in that case it's an 11
  663. [18:49] <+Rick> well, thats a disadvantage to me since i'm singng and composing and stuff
  664. [18:50] <@DM> despite the singing
  665. [18:50] <+Lien> [you are the worst lookout ever]
  666. [18:50] <+Alessa> thanks lucky
  667. [18:50] <@DM> Rick, and no one else
  668. [18:50] <+Alessa> that was for me rite
  669. [18:50] <@DM> can hear the faintest rumble of something on the horizon.
  670. [18:50] * Rick stopps singing, starts again then stopps
  671. [18:50] <@DM> make another one, Rick

  677. [18:51] <+Alessa> well my perception is plus zero
  678. [18:51] <@DM> Rick, you strain to look toward the horizons, but in every direction, it still seems clear. How odd...
  679. [18:51] <+Alessa> ?roll 1d20
  680. [18:51] <tBot> Alessa: 19 [19]
  681. [18:51] <+Rick> I pass it off as ship settling a bit
  682. [18:51] <+Alessa> well i guess i hear something too
  683. [18:51] <+Alessa> haha
  684. [18:51] <@DM> Rick manages to convince himself that absolutely nothing is wrong.
  685. [18:51] <@DM> Alessa is too low down to see anything interesting, though I suppose she could try regardless.
  686. [18:52] <+Alessa> alrite
  687. [18:52] <+Rick> "The Carpenter's woods so stiff, non can handle his tools"
  688. [18:52] <+Alessa> ?roll 1d20

  695. [18:52] <+Alessa> in order
  696. [18:53] <+Alessa> fam has plus four
  697. [18:53] <@DM> Anyway, with your OUTSTANDINGLY GOOD lookout, the Triple Cross sails on. Alessa sees nothing, even in the direction of the rumble she heard earlier.
  698. [18:53] <+Alessa> i put d twent y in my copy paste
  699. [18:53] <@DM> A few more minutes pass.
  700. [18:53] <+Briggs> [if i find out about this you are so getting 40 lashes]
  701. [18:53] <+Lien> [you'd have a volunteer to administer them]
  702. [18:53] <+Doruk> [and my axe]
  703. [18:53] <+Briggs> [should be Doruk, apply a strength roll to it]
  704. [18:53] <@DM> Alright, one more perception check.
  705. [18:53] <+Alessa> i cast detect magic sixty feet range
  706. [18:53] <@DM> everyone

  718. [18:54] <+Wind> ?roll 1d20+6
  719. [18:54] <tBot> Wind: 7 ([1] +6)

  723. [18:54] <+Wind> [oh lawd]
  724. [18:54] <+Rick> [lol! nice roll!]
  725. [18:54] <@DM> Wind manages to hear only the singing of Rick, and winces at the contrived rhyme scheme.
  726. [18:54] <+Alessa> doesnt anyone have a spyglass
  727. [18:54] <+Alessa> in this whole ship
  728. [18:55] <@DM> Everyone else hears a somewhat louder rumble of thunder.
  729. [18:55] <+Lien> [probably fucking rick]
  730. [18:55] <+Briggs> [yes, rick]
  731. [18:55] * Lien looks at the sky, looking for rain.
  732. [18:55] <+Briggs> [or whoever is in the crow's nest]
  733. [18:55] <+Rick> [I was composing softly D=<]
  734. [18:55] * Ratzenberger places down his book
  735. [18:55] <+Briggs> [I also have one, but not on me at this moment]
  736. [18:55] <+Ratzenberger> "Something is amiss"
  737. [18:55] <+Rick> [Besides, I cast that weather prediction thing every night before bed, for fun]
  738. [18:55] <+Briggs> "Hmm."
  739. [18:56] <+Wind> [should i take another check now that everyone else is reacting?]
  740. [18:56] <+Lien> [wait for nk]
  741. [18:56] <+Briggs> [May I roll a profession: sailor check?]
  742. [18:56] <+Ratzenberger> [jesus take the wheel]
  743. [18:56] <+Rick> [Must be unnatural, then, or maybe you/I forgot or something]
  744. [18:56] <+Briggs> ?roll 1d20+6
  745. [18:56] <tBot> Briggs: 12 ([6] +6)
  746. [18:56] <+Briggs> I roll a 12 on my sail check to judge if anything's wrong, or if it's just poor weather.
  747. [18:57] <+Briggs> If there's a storm coming in, I'll give the order to roll up the sails and batten the hatches.
  748. [18:57] <@DM> you can probably notice, Wind.
  749. [18:57] <@DM> and
  750. [18:57] * Rick sighs and gathers his stuff into waterproof bags
  751. [18:57] <@DM> as you look to the horizon, briggs, you can see a dark stormcloud looming over the south
  752. [18:57] <+Rick> "Stupid useless dragonbones."
  753. [18:57] <@DM> Looks like rain.
  754. [18:57] <+Doruk> [we can rp that my disconnecting is me having anxiety attacks]
  755. [18:57] <+Rick> can I roll sailor as well
  756. [18:58] * Lien "Would you estimate that as being a storm, Captain?"
  757. [18:58] <+Briggs> "Alright crew. Be prepared to furl the sails, we've got a squall ahead."
  758. [18:58] * DM sets topic to: The Ailing Earth, Session 1: To Caephlyn http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JWqxPp6SvMw
  759. [18:58] <+Briggs> "Quite likely."
  760. [18:58] <+Rick> "Aye Aye Captain!"
  761. [18:58] <@DM> the crew swings into action.
  762. [18:58] <+Rick> ?roll 1d20+4
  763. [18:58] <tBot> Rick: 16 ([12] +4)
  764. [18:58] <+Ratzenberger> "Ehh...urgh...glurple gkrjkl"
  765. [18:58] <+Briggs> "Mister Holt, awaken the crew that are sleeping. Mister Chandler, man the tiller."
  766. [18:58] * Ratzenberger struggles with the sails
  767. [18:58] <@DM> The sails need to be rolled up as quickly as possible.
  768. [18:59] <@DM> It seems a little odd that you didn't notice the storm before now.
  769. [18:59] <+Ratzenberger> "Doruk, handle this for me would you?"
  770. [18:59] <@DM> Especially the lad in the crow's nest.
  771. [18:59] * Wind rushes to help his friend Ratz
  772. [18:59] <+Rick> I start pulling up the sails as fast as I can
  773. [18:59] <+Ratzenberger> "Or Wind"
  774. [18:59] <+Briggs> "Hart, Newdike, Bassett, coil the ropes
  775. [18:59] * Doruk throws down everything and uses his massive muscles to hold ropes.
  776. [18:59] <+Briggs> "Monkeys! Up into the rigging, get those sails furled."
  777. [18:59] * Lien stands in the middle of the forecastle, watching everyone rushing about with a faint smile on his face, the first smile of the voyage.
  778. [18:59] <@DM> Can you make a profession check to see how quickly that is, Rick?
  779. [18:59] <+Lien> aftcastle*
  780. [19:00] * Rick helps Adelaide and Davie ontop and tie them firmly with rope
  781. [19:00] * Lien whispers to himself, "Finally."
  782. [19:00] <+Rick> ?roll 1d20+4
  783. [19:00] <tBot> Rick: 9 ([5] +4)
  784. [19:00] <+Ratzenberger> [damnit briggs im a doctor, not a sailor!]
  785. [19:00] * Lien "Something different."
  786. [19:00] <+Alessa> i make a kno,edge nature roll
  787. [19:00] <+Rick> [damnfuck, I'm gonna get fired today]
  788. [19:00] <+Briggs> [I've not asked you to do anything ratz]
  789. [19:00] <+Alessa> to try to figure out whats gone on
  790. [19:00] <@DM> Briggs notices, with some consternation, that the sails are not moving up particularly fast.
  791. [19:00] <+Alessa> ?roll 1d20
  792. [19:00] <tBot> Alessa: 16 [16]
  793. [19:00] <@DM> go ahead, Alessa
  794. [19:00] * Briggs curses
  795. [19:00] <@DM> bonuses?
  796. [19:00] <+Alessa> plus 8
  797. [19:00] <+Briggs> I start climbing up the rigging to help with the sails.
  798. [19:00] <+Rick> I sing Inspire Courage
  799. [19:00] <+Briggs> Shall I roll acrobatics to climb?
  800. [19:00] <+Doruk> [I have to earn my keep]
  801. [19:01] <@DM> the storm does not LOOK all that strange, but it's growing rather fast.
  802. [19:01] * Doruk jumps up with the rigging monkeys
  803. [19:01] <+Briggs> ?roll 1d20+9
  804. [19:01] <tBot> Briggs: 22 ([13] +9)
  805. [19:01] <@DM> [you don't have to roll to climb rigging yet]
  806. [19:01] <+Briggs> Well, I did anyway. ;)
  807. [19:01] * Ratzenberger stares fixedly at the impending storm
  808. [19:01] <@DM> [though you climb it quite fast. ;p]
  809. [19:01] <+Briggs> I climb up very safely I suppose, and help with the sails.
  810. [19:01] <+Briggs> ?roll 1d20+6
  811. [19:01] <tBot> Briggs: 25 ([19] +6)
  812. [19:01] <+Rick> I'm going for the +1 competance bonus
  813. [19:01] <+Briggs> that's my sail roll
  814. [19:01] <+Doruk> ?roll 1d20+6
  815. [19:01] <tBot> Doruk: 19 ([13] +6)
  816. [19:01] <+Briggs> to help get this sail furled.
  817. [19:01] <+Doruk> mee too
  818. [19:01] <+Rick> You'd snap the crossbeam D:
  819. [19:01] <+Alessa> so by my knowledge its perfectly natural
  820. [19:02] <+Briggs> I don't want Doruk in the rigging.
  821. [19:02] * Doruk 's buff chest shines like a moon.
  822. [19:02] <@DM> with the captain's guiding hand, the sails get furled much more quickly -- and thank goodness, the storm is bearing down on them quite quickly now.
  823. [19:02] * Lien sees the rat looking at the horizon and walks down to stand next to him.
  824. [19:02] <@DM> The ropes are coiled on the deck below, and many of the passengers hurry inside.
  825. [19:02] <+Doruk> [well, rick sucks, so maybe someone with skill should do this if we're all about to drown?]
  826. [19:02] <+Briggs> "All hands and passengers, strap down anything loose, seal the windows."
  827. [19:02] * Doruk can't swim
  828. [19:02] <+Briggs> "Put the canvas over the main hatch."
  829. [19:02] * Lien "They probably don't get many storms like this where you come from, do they?"
  830. [19:02] * Rick helps out, but he plans to stay outside
  831. [19:02] * Rick he likes enjoying the storms, and he trusts his ropes to keep him safe :p
  832. [19:03] <+Briggs> "Mister Chandler, keep us perpendicular to the waves."
  833. [19:03] <@DM> Despite two of the passengers completely ignoring her, Briggs' orders are mostly being followed.
  834. [19:03] <+Ratzenberger> "It would be nice to chat elf, but I don't want to be like so many stereotypes of my people. I don't particularly like water"
  835. [19:03] <+Alessa> if it wasnt natural id roll am arcana and spellcraft too
  836. [19:03] * Ratzenberger goes below deck
  837. [19:03] * Wind looks at the Elf. "So, there's more to this then meets the eye, you think?"
  838. [19:03] * Doruk stares into the oncoming storm.
  839. [19:03] <@DM> You don't detect magic here, Alessa.
  840. [19:03] <+Wind> [*than]
  841. [19:03] <+Briggs> I'd like to check what Alessa's doing. I roll perception.
  842. [19:03] <+Briggs> ?roll 1d20+1
  843. [19:03] <tBot> Briggs: 13 ([12] +1)
  844. [19:04] <@DM> Alessa seems to be studying the storm.
  845. [19:04] <@DM> But who knows?
  846. [19:04] * Rick does stow away his possessions with Adelaide though
  847. [19:04] <+Briggs> "Hmm."
  848. [19:04] <@DM> Maybe she's egging it on with her witchy ways!
  849. [19:04] * Lien looks back. "I'm sure there are more clouds behind those clouds, if that's what you are asking."
  850. [19:04] * Lien "If you excuse me."
  851. [19:04] <+Alessa> I cast guidance on all the sailors cuz I dont want to die in a ship
  852. [19:04] * Doruk sees the witch also checking out the storm.
  853. [19:04] <+Alessa> plus one to their skill checks
  854. [19:04] * Wind "Clever."
  855. [19:05] * Doruk >: |
  856. [19:05] <+Briggs> "Witch. If you have a way to blow this storm away from us, you have my leave to do so."
  857. [19:05] <@DM> What has been a consistent tailwind for days now starts to become more inconsistent.
  858. [19:05] <+Alessa> winks at Briggs but shakes her head
  859. [19:05] <+Rick> http://www.pine-net.com/~joanbab/eyeofst.htm (replace Light with hand and "Savior" with "Captain")
  860. [19:05] <@DM> Gusts are blowing hither and thither.
  861. [19:05] * Rick is singing at the top of his lungs int he crows nest, where he has tied himself up quite snuggly
  862. [19:05] <@DM> fortunately the sails are furled, but the wind rips at the little bits of exposed cloth.
  863. [19:06] <+Ratzenberger> [lol oh god rick]
  864. [19:06] <+Wind> [heh that pinged me]
  865. [19:06] <+Rick> "DO YOU NEED ME TO GET THAT, MA'AM!?"
  866. [19:06] <+Briggs> "Alright, I want all crew on deck to be tethered."
  867. [19:06] * Rick points out the chunck of exposed canvas
  868. [19:06] <@DM> Wind and Lien get a faceful of salt spray as the wind blows into their faces.
  869. [19:06] <+Wind> [for the record i'm not ripping the cloth!]
  870. [19:06] * Lien walks down towards his quarters. This has been fun, but he doesn't want to get wet.
  871. [19:06] <+Briggs> "All others should get below decks."
  872. [19:06] <@DM> the crew mutters their assent.
  873. [19:06] <+Alessa> I mockingly pretend to be a religious official as I cast guidance on the crew
  874. [19:06] <+Briggs> "Hart! Tether yourself."
  875. [19:06] <+Doruk> [is this where I'm washed overboard and drown?]
  876. [19:07] <@DM> I dunno, are you still abovedeck, Doruk?
  877. [19:07] <+Briggs> [no Doruk, this is the bit where I request you to go under with the crew]
  878. [19:07] <@DM> Are you tethered?
  879. [19:07] <+Doruk> I am under, I guess
  880. [19:07] * Wind reluctantly follow's Briggs' order and returns to his space in the upper storage
  881. [19:07] * Rick laughs as the rain gets heavier
  882. [19:07] * Doruk lays on the floor
  883. [19:07] <@DM> Those of you belowdeck can still hear the wind, which has begun to truly howl. The timbers and planking creak with exertion as they try and hold the ship together.
  884. [19:07] <+Briggs> [Down in the decks, ideally all the windows should be sealed, and the caulking is fairly fresh so it shouldn't be very leaky, and there are magical lamps'
  885. [19:08] <+Briggs> so unless something awful happens, it should stay light and fairly dry, if a little nauseating, down there]
  886. [19:08] <@DM> Those of you abovedeck can feel the rain start to lash at your faces. Visibility plummets, and clouds absolutely coat the sky from horizon to horizon.
  887. [19:08] * Lien listens to the noise, still smiling, and contemplates going outside and getting washed into the sea.
  888. [19:08] * Lien decides against suicide, for the 8432nd time in his life.
  889. [19:09] * Briggs aids Mr. Chandler, in his efforts to wrestle with the tiller.
  890. [19:09] * Rick listens to the tempo of the storm. Every storm sounds different, and the powerful beat have inspired two of his better songs
  891. [19:09] <@DM> The ship is now cutting directly into the waves, the helmsman keeping it stubbornly perpendicular to them, but it's still difficult.
  892. [19:09] <@DM> The wind seems to be trying to catch at the side of the ship, for want of a sail.
  893. [19:09] <@DM> Another crack of thunder sounds, this one from FAR closer than the last.
  894. [19:10] <+Briggs> In this case it's fortunate that we've got a medium load, that reduces our face to the wind.
  895. [19:10] <+Alessa> could I just take ten on concentration, violnt motion is DC fifteen plus spell level (zero) and my concentrAtion is plus five
  896. [19:10] <@DM> yes
  897. [19:10] <+Briggs> [so we have a guidance bonus from Alessa for now, and those belowdecks also have a bard inspiring them]
  898. [19:11] <@DM> isn't Rick still abovedeck?
  899. [19:11] <+Alessa> q blessing unto you child, and unto you, an dunto you ahahahaha q
  900. [19:11] <+Rick> I sing very loudly
  901. [19:11] <+Briggs> [if he is, the song's going abovedeck]
  902. [19:11] * Ratzenberger stays where most of the crew has assembled below deck once he is satisfied his belongings will not be too badly jostled in his quarters.
  903. [19:11] * Ratzenberger tries to feel inspired by the bard's throaty ballads
  904. [19:11] <+Rick> I'm using my magic-infused song when I notice trouble or timing it to the waves though
  905. [19:11] * Doruk is literally laying on his stomach, so he doesn't move in the waves
  906. [19:11] <+Briggs> [most crew and passengers will be gathered in the crew's quarters, in the ship's upper hold]
  907. [19:11] <+Alessa> Heather hides in her demon skull shaped carrying case
  908. [19:11] <+Rick> probably be exhausted eventually
  909. [19:11] <@DM> A particularly nasty series of waves crash against the bow -- one, two, three
  910. [19:12] <@DM> roll a reflex save to avoid being tossed about.
  911. [19:12] <+Briggs> I'll roll perception to see if I see anything in the water, after that save.
  912. [19:12] <+Doruk> everyone?
  913. [19:12] <+Rick> ?roll I Have Rope
  914. [19:12] <tBot> Rick: "i have rope" not a valid roll.
  915. [19:12] <+Alessa> not acrobaics?
  916. [19:12] <+Briggs> ?roll 1d20+7
  917. [19:12] <tBot> Briggs: 13 ([6] +7)
  918. [19:12] <@DM> haha
  919. [19:12] <+Ratzenberger> [how i do that]
  920. [19:12] <+Briggs> I make a 13 reflex save.
  921. [19:12] <@DM> the rope keeps you tethered, captain.
  922. [19:12] <+Rick> ?roll 1d20+3
  923. [19:12] <tBot> Rick: 9 ([6] +3)
  924. [19:12] <+Rick> [motherfucker]
  925. [19:12] <+Alessa> i have one more acro than ref hahA
  926. [19:12] <+Ratzenberger> ?roll 1d20+4
  927. [19:12] <tBot> Ratzenberger: 8 ([4] +4)
  928. [19:12] <+Lien> ?roll 1d20+1
  929. [19:12] <tBot> Lien: 14 ([13] +1)
  930. [19:12] <+Doruk> ?roll 1d20+2
  931. [19:12] <tBot> Doruk: 19 ([17] +2)
  932. [19:13] <+Alessa> ?roll 1d20
  933. [19:13] <tBot> Alessa: 10 [10]
  934. [19:13] <+Wind> ?roll 1d20+1
  935. [19:13] <tBot> Wind: 11 ([10] +1)
  936. [19:13] * Doruk is steady as a fucking rock
  937. [19:13] <+Alessa> plus three for ref
  938. [19:13] <+Alessa> plus four for acro
  939. [19:13] <+Wind> oh +2 for acro
  940. [19:13] <+Doruk> no
  941. [19:13] <+Briggs> "Hold strong, Mister Chandler!"
  942. [19:13] <+Ratzenberger> [shiiii]
  943. [19:13] <@DM> Despite his worries about the sea, Doruk seems the MOST stable, and in fact catches his friend the good Doctor as the ratperson is thrown from his feet by a particularly violent collision
  944. [19:13] <+Doruk> you don't add acro to reflex
  945. [19:13] <+Rick> +7 for acro
  946. [19:13] <+Rick> oh
  947. [19:13] <+Briggs> [acrobatics is its own skill. this is a reflex save, one of the three basic types of saves]
  948. [19:14] <@DM> Rick, on the other hand, though tethered, loses his feet momentarily, and is knocked prone.
  949. [19:14] <+Lien> [ha]
  950. [19:14] <@DM> He struggles to get back to his feet amidst the smaller waves.
  951. [19:14] <+Ratzenberger> [GOOD]
  952. [19:14] <@DM> Everyone else is fine.
  953. [19:14] <+Doruk> "You're a doctor, not a sailor."
  954. [19:14] <+Rick> "UMPH!"
  955. [19:14] <@DM> Briggs, roll perception if you still want.
  956. [19:14] <+Briggs> alright
  957. [19:14] <+Briggs> ?roll 1d20+1
  958. [19:14] <tBot> Briggs: 15 ([14] +1)
  959. [19:14] <+Briggs> for the record, this is what our cog looks like
  960. [19:14] <+Briggs> http://www.stradbrokeislandgalleon.com/ship_cog.jpg
  961. [19:15] <@DM> The waters around here have been known to have a few sharks.
  962. [19:15] <@DM> But you can't see for shit in this weather.
  963. [19:15] * Lien hears things bumping around, and pulls out what looks like a staff from under his bed to steady himself. He contemplates seeing if anyone is hurt and decides against it.
  964. [19:15] <+Briggs> that's the least of our worries in this weather.
  965. [19:15] * angst ([email protected]) has joined #nesdnd
  966. [19:15] * angst is now known as ForeverNPC
  967. [19:15] <@DM> [hehe]
  968. [19:15] <+Alessa> i olled liek thirteen what happens to me
  969. [19:16] * Ratzenberger tries to steady himself
  970. [19:16] <@DM> Another series of waves strikes the ship, one -- two -- three.
  971. [19:16] * Doruk holds Ratzenberger by his shirt
  972. [19:16] <@DM> At a thirteen, you're fine
  973. [19:16] * Briggs growls at the ship
  974. [19:16] <@DM> 'twas a DC 10
  975. [19:16] <+Briggs> "Hold together girl."
  976. [19:16] <+Doruk> "Lay on floor, Doc"
  977. [19:16] <+Alessa> blesses herself to get a plus one on her next save
  978. [19:16] <+Rick> ?roll 1d20+3
  979. [19:16] <tBot> Rick: 7 ([4] +3)
  980. [19:16] <@DM> For those of you not used to the sea, the most annoying thing about a storm is how it KEEPS GOING.
  981. [19:16] <+Rick> [ok, who cursed my dice!]
  982. [19:17] * Ratzenberger heeds Doruk's advice
  983. [19:17] <+Ratzenberger> "Good idea"
  984. [19:17] <+Lien> [we're rolling again?]
  985. [19:17] <+Briggs> [for the record, First Mate David Holt should be below decks right now, to keep order]
  986. [19:17] <+Rick> [I dunno!?]
  987. [19:17] <+Doruk> ?roll 1d20+2
  988. [19:17] <tBot> Doruk: 16 ([14] +2)
  989. [19:17] <@DM> over and over and over the waves crash into the ship, and after the thirll of the first few pass you're mostly just wishing it were over. Nobody likes the feeling of their jaw being forced into the rest of their face at high speeds.
  990. [19:17] <@DM> you don't have to roll again.
  991. [19:17] <@DM> I'll tell you when you do.
  992. [19:17] <+Doruk> [is perfectly stable]
  993. [19:17] <@DM> though I'll use those two for when you do
  994. [19:17] <+Ratzenberger> [im still playing the youtube link, think im going crazy lol]
  995. [19:17] <@DM> :p
  996. [19:17] <+Lien> [heh]
  997. [19:18] <+Rick> [I have it on repeat]
  998. [19:18] <+Briggs> [i keep them on repeat]
  999. [19:18] <+Briggs> [the music is a /brilliant/ idea]
  1000. [19:18] <@DM> haha, ligeti's perfect ofr it
1001. [19:18] <+Lien> [I switch out to skyrim ost when i've finished the last song]
  1002. [19:18] <+Lien> [carry on, dm]
1003. [19:18] <+Alessa> I tether myself to a part of the whip with my tail
  1004. [19:18] <+Alessa> with*
1005. [19:18] * Doruk 's body is strong like an ox, so he will hold the Doctor stable.
1006. [19:18] <@DM> Another CRACK of thunder, this one sounding as though it were the very BREAKING OF THE WORLD itself!
  1007. [19:19] * Wind :O
  1008. [19:19] <+Alessa> ship
1009. [19:19] <@DM> lightning arcs across the darkened sky, and strikes the waves with a fury, almost malevolent
  1010. [19:19] <+Briggs> Do I see the lightning strike?
1011. [19:19] * Lien "That sounds as though it were the very Breaking of the World itself."
1012. [19:19] <@DM> Captain, you've seen lightning strike before, but you swear this one looks different
1013. [19:19] <@DM> as though it vaporized the water on contact and formed a column of steam.
1014. [19:19] <+Doruk> "What curse is this?" he asks Doc Ratz
1015. [19:19] <+Ratzenberger> "I read about lightning that sounded like that, as if they could Break the very World itself"
1016. [19:20] * Briggs squints at the water.
  1017. [19:20] <+Briggs> ?roll 1d20+1
  1018. [19:20] <tBot> Briggs: 13 ([12] +1)
  1019. [19:20] <+Briggs> for perception
  1020. [19:20] <@DM> [lol]
1021. [19:20] <+Briggs> (also the music just got intense for me)
1022. [19:20] <+Alessa> are you sure this is a natural storm according to my 25 nature check
  1023. [19:20] <+Lien> [can I do a listen check]
  1024. [19:20] <+Lien> [in my cabin]
  1025. [19:20] <@DM> yes, yes, and yes
1026. [19:20] <+Wind> "In the mountains we had storms, but nothing like this."
  1027. [19:20] <+Briggs> [is Alessa on deck?]
  1028. [19:20] <+Alessa> hahA
  1029. [19:20] <+Lien> ?roll 1d20+5
  1030. [19:20] <tBot> Lien: 17 ([12] +5)
  1031. [19:20] <+Alessa> idk
  1032. [19:20] <+Alessa> im
1033. [19:20] <+Doruk> [doruk can hear this song in his mind]
  1034. [19:20] <+Rick> ?roll 1d20
  1035. [19:20] <tBot> Rick: 6 [6]
  1036. [19:20] <+Rick> [DAMNIT]
  1037. [19:20] <+Alessa> just milling about
1038. [19:20] <@DM> the water holds nothing that you can see. Nor the air.
  1039. [19:20] <+Doruk> [he wants to die]
  1040. [19:20] <@DM> it's hard enough to see.
  1041. [19:20] * Briggs grits her teeth.
  1042. [19:21] <@DM> Then, you turn.
1043. [19:21] <+Doruk> "I should not have crossed the big water."
  1044. [19:21] <+Lien> [do I hear anything relevant?]
1045. [19:21] * Doruk clenches Ratz' shirt hard.
1046. [19:21] <+Ratzenberger> "It will be over soon, the captain has been through many of these"
1047. [19:21] <@DM> Your whole life flashes before your eyes, and you start to wonder -- Briggs that is -- in that split second if maybe you should have left the voyaging to someone else.
1048. [19:22] * Briggs growls at the idea.
1049. [19:22] <+Wind> "Be calm Barb...Doruk. This is not the end yet...no, it cannot be!"
1050. [19:22] <@DM> Because bearing down on your ship is a series of waves that dwarfs those last few.
  1051. [19:22] * Doruk shuts his eyes
  1052. [19:22] <@DM> (you didn't hear a whole lot)
1053. [19:22] * Briggs roars "HOLD YOURSELVES CREW!"
1054. [19:22] <@DM> you move to shout for the crew to brace themselves, but it's too late
  1055. [19:22] <@DM> the waves
1056. [19:22] <@DM> crash into the ship again
  1057. [19:22] <@DM> whump whump whump
  1058. [19:22] <@DM> roll a reflex save

  1075. [19:23] <tBot> Wind: "d20+1" not a valid roll.

1085. [19:23] <+Alessa> im tethered with my tail tho
  1086. [19:23] <+Briggs> ['tis fine]
  1087. [19:23] <+Lien> [>:[ ]
  1088. [19:23] <+Doruk> [I'll keep my 16]
  1089. [19:23] <+Alessa> do i get like a bons
1090. [19:23] <@DM> Alessa, held by her tail, simply smashes into the side of the hull.
  1091. [19:23] <@DM> ow.
  1092. [19:24] <+Ratzenberger> [LOL]
  1093. [19:24] <+Alessa> does that do damage
  1094. [19:24] <@DM> no
  1095. [19:24] <+Alessa> aleight
  1096. [19:24] <+Lien> could do non-lethal
1097. [19:24] <@DM> Rick is perfectly fine. After his earlier fall, he feels as though he's gotten the measure of this storm, and can practically dance on the rigging.
1098. [19:24] <@DM> He decides not to, though.
  1099. [19:24] <+Rick> because I'm not fucking insane
  1100. [19:24] <+Alessa> is roughed du
  1101. [19:25] <+Wind> Well...
1102. [19:25] <@DM> Briggs... unfortunately, falls to one side, though she is still firmly tethered.
  1103. [19:25] <+Alessa> up*
1104. [19:25] * Doruk has uninterrupted and intense staring contest with the back of his eye lids
1105. [19:25] <+Briggs> [once again, here is our ship cog]
  1106. [19:25] <+Briggs> [http://lindefirion.net/images/ships/cog.jpg]
1107. [19:25] <@DM> With a shout coming from elsewhere, you realize that one of your deckhands, Ralph, is not as well tethered as you.
  1108. [19:25] <+Rick> {NOT FOUND}
  1109. [19:26] <@DM> He hangs overboard.
1110. [19:26] <+Rick> [That does not bode well]
1111. [19:26] <@DM> though not in the water!
  1112. [19:26] <@DM> just in serious danger of water-in-lung
1113. [19:26] * Briggs tries to get to her feet.
  1114. [19:26] <+Wind> [cut him loose!]
  1115. [19:26] <+Briggs> [what should I roll for it?]
1116. [19:26] <+Alessa> I cast guidance on anyone who helps the sailor get back in
1117. [19:26] * Rick looks down and decides to not climb down the riggings unless someone yells at him
  1118. [19:26] <@DM> hrm
1119. [19:26] <@DM> athletics or acrobatics will suffice
  1120. [19:26] <+Briggs> [acro?]

  1125. [19:27] <+Doruk> [briggs drowns]
1126. [19:27] <@DM> you slowly manage to pull yourself to your feet, with your helmsman's aid
  1127. [19:27] <+Briggs> [i am still on board]
1128. [19:27] <@DM> but the deckhand is still overboard.
  1129. [19:27] <+Briggs> "Thank you Chandler."
  1130. [19:27] <+Alessa> with a good concentration check woo
1131. [19:27] <+Briggs> Alright, I survey the situation, are there other crew near Ralf's position?
  1132. [19:28] <+Briggs> ?roll 1d20+1
  1133. [19:28] <tBot> Briggs: 21 ([20] +1)

  1135. [19:28] <+Ratzenberger> [niiiice]
  1136. [19:28] <+Lien> CRITICAL JUDGE
1137. [19:28] <@DM> As if to underline his perlious situation, which probably would have been happening to one of the PCs if there were a non-essential PC who rolled below a ten on the last check -- another CRACK of thunder. Even louder, if it can be beleived.
1138. [19:28] <@DM> you see a couple of crewmembers near him on the deck, but they seem to not have noticed yet
  1139. [19:28] <+Doruk> "We will drown, Doc."
1140. [19:28] <@DM> they are dealing with their own pitching and rolling
  1141. [19:28] * Lien ponders going outside.
  1142. [19:28] <+Briggs> "Man overboard!"
1143. [19:29] * Lien realizes again that suicide is not preferable.
1144. [19:29] * Briggs move up to the forward limit of her tether, and then ties a second tether to the mainmast.
1145. [19:29] <@DM> You try to yell, hoping that you will be somehow heard -- but being a captain has taught you how to cut through any noise.
1146. [19:29] * Rick starts climbing down the rigging
1147. [19:29] <@DM> They begin to collect themselves and rush to Ralph's aid.
  1148. [19:29] <+Rick> ?roll 1d20+7
  1149. [19:29] <tBot> Rick: 15 ([8] +7)
  1150. [19:29] <+Wind> [#8433 Lien]
1151. [19:29] <+Lien> [thank you for keeping track]
  1152. [19:29] <+Ratzenberger> "Not today Doruk...probably"
  1153. [19:30] <+Briggs> If that's the case, I won't go there myself, I'll stay at the aftcastle.
  1154. [19:30] <+Rick> I'll go check everyone's tethers
1155. [19:30] <@DM> Slowly, inch by inch, they start to pull him up.
1156. [19:30] <+Doruk> "The spirits favor no man."
  1157. [19:30] <+Briggs> [aren't you in the crow's nest?]
  1158. [19:30] <@DM> ?roll 1d20
  1159. [19:30] <tBot> DM: 1 [1]
1160. [19:30] <+Briggs> [you're in no position to check tethers right now]
  1161. [19:30] <+Lien> [I am no man]
  1162. [19:30] <@DM> ...well
  1163. [19:30] <+Ratzenberger> [OH NO]
  1164. [19:30] <@DM> unfortunately.
  1165. [19:30] <+Lien> [takes off helmet and doruk realizes he's a rat]
1166. [19:30] <+Rick> [well, I was going to come down if someone yelled something, I guess not then]
1167. [19:30] <@DM> As they try to pull him up the last few feet, another terrible blast of ocean comes all at once.
  1168. [19:30] <+Lien> [oooh.
1169. [19:31] <@DM> Rick, indecisive, decides at the last second to stay put. Which is fortunate -- if he were in the rigging, shit might have gotten real.
1170. [19:31] <+Lien> [that literally made me wince irl]
  1171. [19:31] <+Lien> [the 1]
1172. [19:31] <@DM> For poor Ralph Baxter, his third voyage is his last voyage.
1173. [19:31] <@DM> His line simply flies out of the hands of the waiting deckhands, pulls taut, and snaps.
1174. [19:31] <@DM> Into the water he goes.
1175. [19:31] <+Lien> [He was no fucking darmondlander npc, that's for damn sure]
1176. [19:31] <+Ratzenberger> [another red shirt bites the dust]
  1177. [19:31] * DM sploosh
  1178. [19:32] <+Lien> [guys were unstoppable]
  1179. [19:32] <+Briggs> [he had a name and I wrote his backstory]

  1181. [19:32] <+Briggs> [do not forget him]
  1182. [19:32] <+Lien> [segue into 4 hour long anime-style flashback]
  1183. [19:32] <+Lien> [jk]
1184. [19:32] <@DM> But by now, the sea is starting to smooth out a little bit.
1185. [19:32] <@DM> The storm, such as it is
  1186. [19:32] <@DM> is dying down.
1187. [19:33] <@DM> The demonic music which seemed to push itself into your ears with no apparent source? Perhaps easing a little.
  1188. [19:33] <+Rick> wait
  1189. [19:33] <@DM> roll perception, everyone abovedeck.

  1195. [19:33] <@DM> still a lot of waves
  1196. [19:33] <@DM> and wind
  1197. [19:33] <+Alessa> am I abovede k

1206. [19:33] <@DM> Briggs, you notice, through it all...
  1207. [19:33] <+Wind> [ratz is abovedeck?]
1208. [19:33] <+Rick> [The demonic music which seemed to push itself into your ears with no apparent source? Perhaps easing a little. is this a statement on my signing!?]
  1209. [19:33] <+Briggs> [abovedeck, ratz]
  1210. [19:34] <+Ratzenberger> [nm]
1211. [19:34] * Lien decides to go outside and contemplate, but not necessarily carry out, suicide
1212. [19:34] <+Ratzenberger> [i thougth he was ordring people above deck]
  1213. [19:34] <@DM> well, you don't notice anything.

  1215. [19:34] <tBot> Lien: 21 ([16] +5)

1217. [19:34] <+Briggs> [I will not order anyone above deck]
1218. [19:34] <@DM> The thunder seems slightly more remote.
  1219. [19:34] <+Briggs> still very rough seas.
1220. [19:34] * Lien instantly regrets his decision.
1221. [19:34] <@DM> The winds now seem behind you.
1222. [19:35] <+Doruk> [can the rat make me some valium?]
1223. [19:35] <+Briggs> I check my compass to see if we've gotten turned around.
1224. [19:35] <@DM> The ship rocks back and forth, and back and forth, and you're still heading in the same direction.
1225. [19:35] <+Ratzenberger> [is it in my kit? lol ]
  1226. [19:35] <+Wind> [#8434]
1227. [19:35] <+Briggs> Or have we held a steady course through the storm?
  1228. [19:35] <+Lien> [thank you]
1229. [19:35] <@DM> Then, you hear something -- the voice of your helmsman.
1230. [19:35] <+Lien> [I was going to have to go back and check]
1231. [19:35] * DM "Oh, come the fuck on."
  1232. [19:35] <+Doruk> [?]
1233. [19:35] <+Alessa> relaxes on her hammock with the storm subsided
  1234. [19:35] <@DM> he's looking off to port
1235. [19:35] * Briggs turns to Helmsman Chandler "Good job."
1236. [19:36] <+Briggs> "Wait... what do you see?"
1237. [19:36] <@DM> as you turn to ask him what he sees, the question dies in your mouth
1238. [19:36] * Lien holds on to the door handle of his 'stateroom,' staring up towards the aftcastle. Despite the pitching and yawing of the ship, I decide to walk up towards the Captain.
1239. [19:36] <@DM> Rick, seeing them look, looks that way himself
  1240. [19:36] <@DM> and a feeling of deep dread
1241. [19:36] <@DM> Lien looks to one side, but it is far, far too late
  1242. [19:36] <+Doruk> [rogue wave]
  1243. [19:36] <@DM> yawning over the ship
  1244. [19:36] <+Alessa> is still relaxing
  1245. [19:36] <@DM> is it
  1246. [19:36] <@DM> eighty feet high?
  1247. [19:36] <@DM> a hundred?
  1248. [19:36] <@DM> it's impossible to tell
  1249. [19:36] <+Briggs> SEA SERPENT!
  1250. [19:36] <@DM> a wave
  1251. [19:36] <+Briggs> oh
  1252. [19:36] * Rick craps his pants
1253. [19:37] <@DM> more immense than any MOUNTAIN
  1254. [19:37] <+Alessa> still relaxing
1255. [19:37] <+Briggs> "TURN HARD INTO THE WAVE!"
1256. [19:37] * Lien shouts up towards the captain, knowing this will be the last thing he ever gets a chance to say.
1257. [19:37] <+Briggs> if we hit it dead on, we are safest
  1258. [19:37] * Lien "CAPTAIN!"
1259. [19:37] <+Alessa> legs up and not a care in the world
1260. [19:37] <@DM> you have fifteen seconds, real time.
  1261. [19:37] <+Briggs> or at a 45 degree angle
1262. [19:37] <+Briggs> if it hits us on the side
  1263. [19:37] <+Briggs> we roll
1264. [19:37] <@DM> The ship rolls into the trough
1265. [19:37] <+Briggs> "TURN HARD INTO THE WAVE!"
  1266. [19:37] <+Rick> I fucking grab onto the mast
  1267. [19:37] <@DM> it tilts, dangerously
  1268. [19:37] <+Briggs> "BRACE!"

1296. [19:39] <@DM> the wave crashes into the ship, so immense that it seems as though the world itself comes down on you
1297. [19:39] <@DM> everyone abovedeck gets hit with an enormous wave of water
  1298. [19:39] <@DM> burying them deeply
1299. [19:39] <+Alessa> is caught unawares but whatever. her catlike grace granted her a total of twenty for a save
  1300. [19:39] <@DM> let's see
  1301. [19:40] <+Briggs> [and that's why I don't wear a hat]
1302. [19:40] <@DM> Wind, you get knocked prone. But prone, in this case, means you're on one of the walls. You get disoriented for ten seconds, or so, and then realize the ship is on its side.
  1303. [19:40] <@DM> Doruk, Ratzenberger, same.
1304. [19:40] <+Briggs> [which side is the ship on? listing to port or starboard?]
1305. [19:41] <@DM> Briggs, your line barely, barely stays intact. You are attached to the ship. It is unclear whether or not this is a good thing. Because the ship is on its side.
1306. [19:41] <+Wind> [i'm picturing like i fall then ratz falls on me then doruk falls on us]
  1307. [19:41] <@DM> hmm
  1308. [19:41] <@DM> port
1309. [19:41] <+Wind> [like in the cartoons! except not actually since i'd die!]
  1310. [19:41] <@DM> at basically a ninety degree angle
  1311. [19:41] <+Ratzenberger> "oof......OOOF"
1312. [19:41] <+Briggs> turn the tiller hard-a-starboard, if I can, to shift the weight of the rudder onto the other side
  1313. [19:41] <+Doruk> [i'm not in armor, so I'm not too heavy]
  1314. [19:41] <+Rick> [shit]
  1315. [19:41] <@DM> Rick
  1316. [19:41] <@DM> your line snaps.
1317. [19:41] <@DM> you are in the water
  1318. [19:41] <@DM> we'll get back to you
  1319. [19:41] <@DM> Lien
1320. [19:41] <+Lien> [nk, I was canonically holding my staff when I was on deck]
  1321. [19:41] <@DM> you didn't have a line
1322. [19:41] <@DM> you are in the water
  1323. [19:41] <@DM> we'll get back to you.
  1324. [19:42] <+Doruk> [immortality]
1325. [19:42] <@DM> There are still waves, keep in mind, but the more pertinent question is what to do with the ship
  1326. [19:42] <@DM> because
  1327. [19:42] <@DM> let's face it
1328. [19:42] <@DM> things do NOT look good.
1329. [19:42] <+Briggs> [if captain had possessed higher wisdom, she would have told you to get back inside immediately
  1330. [19:42] <+Briggs> ]
1331. [19:42] <+Briggs> Well, if the ship's at ninety degrees, the packed-down goods in the hold
1332. [19:42] <+Briggs> should be pulling back upright
1333. [19:43] <+Briggs> unless all of the ties holding them down have failed, and the ballast is flopping around
1334. [19:43] * Doruk stumbles to his feet and makes his way to the deck through confusing sideways stairs
1335. [19:43] * DM sets topic to: The Ailing Earth, Session 1: To Caephlyn? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VHdfTEbPZGc
1336. [19:43] * Doruk can go the distance
1337. [19:43] <+Briggs> if most of the ballast is intact, we should be able to right the ship by shifting weight onto the upper side, by turning the tiller and shifting the hanging rudder over
1338. [19:43] <+Lien> [you know a disturbingly large amount of ooc things about ships]
  1339. [19:44] <+Ratzenberger> [no shit lol]
1340. [19:44] <+Briggs> [Um, that is completely IC to know]
  1341. [19:44] <@DM> he did his research
  1342. [19:44] <@DM> :p
  1343. [19:44] <@DM> Let's see
  1344. [19:44] <+Lien> [oh I know it's ic to know, i'm just impressed]
1345. [19:44] <@DM> the ship is starting to right itself, a little, but it took on water.
  1346. [19:44] <@DM> A lot.
  1347. [19:44] <@DM> of water.
1348. [19:44] <+Briggs> Are there more waves coming?
  1349. [19:44] <@DM> only little ones.
1350. [19:44] * Doruk pops up on the deck
1351. [19:44] <+Briggs> We need to man the bailing pump immediately.
1352. [19:44] <+Lien> [are there any holes in the hull?]
1353. [19:44] <+Alessa> doesnt know a thing about ships really, but trusts that the sailors could get things back in order as she presumably holds on tight to a column of some sort
  1354. [19:44] <@DM> guys below deck
  1355. [19:44] <@DM> hush
  1356. [19:44] <@DM> we're getting to you
1357. [19:44] * Briggs puts on loud voice.
1358. [19:45] <+Doruk> [I was coming above deck, but okay :[. going to get coffee]
1359. [19:45] <+Alessa> dont tell me to hush im offended
  1360. [19:45] <@DM> lol
  1361. [19:45] <+Alessa> im just makin commentary cu 9
  1362. [19:45] * Lien sees a jellyfish.
  1363. [19:45] <+Alessa> z otherise theres nothin to doooo
  1364. [19:45] <@DM> guys overboard, hush
1365. [19:45] <+Briggs> "Helmsman! Keep the rudder turned, get this ship righted! First mate, get Doruk and yourself down to the bilge pump, get water out of this ship now!
  1366. [19:45] <+Briggs> "Murray, Robben, Bill, headcount!"
1367. [19:46] <@DM> You turn, and realize the helmsman is...
  1368. [19:46] <+Briggs> ?roll 1d20+1
  1369. [19:46] <tBot> Briggs: 18 ([17] +1)
  1370. [19:46] <@DM> not there.
1371. [19:46] <+Briggs> Is his line broken, or is he hanging?
  1372. [19:46] <@DM> well that could be a problem
  1373. [19:46] <+Lien> [not mister chandler!]
  1374. [19:46] <@DM> broken
  1375. [19:46] <+Wind> [save him Lien!]
  1376. [19:46] <+Briggs> "GOD DAMN IT! FLAMING WHORE OF A SEA-DEVIL!"
1377. [19:46] <+Ratzenberger> [baw gawd king, not like this]
1378. [19:46] <@DM> but the first mate's voice bomes from somewhere, and he acknowledges, and tries to climb inside the ship
  1379. [19:46] <+Rick> [I just realized this is DM's "PC Murdering Time" music D:]
  1380. [19:46] <@DM> the real problem
1381. [19:47] <@DM> is that the ship has taken up enough water that it's starting to settle down a little
  1382. [19:47] <@DM> like
  1383. [19:47] <@DM> really settle
  1384. [19:47] <@DM> low
  1385. [19:47] <@DM> in the water
  1386. [19:47] * CovetousShen ([email protected]) has joined #nesdnd
  1387. [19:47] <CovetousShen> who's winning
1388. [19:47] <+Briggs> I want Holt and Doruk down on the bailing pumps NOW.
  1389. [19:47] <+Lien> [shhhh]
1390. [19:47] <@DM> okay, Alessa, where are you in the vessel
  1391. [19:47] <+Alessa> where the hammocks are
  1392. [19:47] <@DM> hmm
  1393. [19:47] <+Briggs> [crew quarters]
  1394. [19:47] <+Alessa> I was relaxing
  1395. [19:48] <+Alessa> before the ruuude interruption
  1396. [19:48] <@DM> okay
1397. [19:48] <+Briggs> Anyway, Chandler seems to be alive, but his rope broke. That is very strange.
  1398. [19:48] <@DM> Ratzenberger, Wind, and Doruk
1399. [19:48] <+Briggs> It'll be my job to hold the tiller until he gets back to the aftcastle.
1400. [19:48] * Doruk is climbing above deck
  1401. [19:48] <@DM> okay
  1402. [19:48] <@DM> Ratzenberger and Wind, then
  1403. [19:48] <@DM> you guys
1404. [19:48] <@DM> notice some water creeping up in the lower storage area
  1405. [19:49] <@DM> this could be problematic
1406. [19:49] <+Ratzenberger> [oh god its titanic all over again]
  1407. [19:49] <CovetousShen> [roll for water detection]
1408. [19:49] <+Briggs> [ooc goddamnit doruk, I told holt to bring you down to the pumps, which are in the bottom of the ship]
1409. [19:49] <@DM> Doruk, you manage to climb all the way to the deck, and meet the first mate, who angrily tells you to climb back down
  1410. [19:49] <CovetousShen> [lol titanic, good one]
  1411. [19:49] <+Doruk> "I will help!"
1412. [19:49] * Ratzenberger notices some water creeping up in the lower storage area
1413. [19:49] <@DM> Doruk does not like the idea of drowning
1414. [19:49] * Doruk has water running over his raven locks as they sway in the ocean breeze
  1415. [19:49] * Wind notices too
  1416. [19:50] <+Doruk> [yeah, I will not go down without a fight]
1417. [19:50] <+Doruk> [the crew is failing me hard]
  1418. [19:50] <@DM> hmm, Briggs, where's the pump exactly
  1419. [19:50] <CovetousShen> [show that water who's boss]
1420. [19:50] <+Briggs> So regarding my spot check on the surface, what do I find?
  1421. [19:50] <+Briggs> There are two pumps.
  1422. [19:50] <@DM> oh, regarding who's where?
  1423. [19:50] <+Briggs> yeah
1424. [19:50] <+Briggs> but the pumps are here: i'll mark them
  1425. [19:50] <+Briggs> with 'x'
1426. [19:50] <+Doruk> I'll go to a pump, if you order me to
1427. [19:51] <+Doruk> my brain is smart enough for that
1428. [19:51] <+Ratzenberger> "Doruk, I am following you on this one"
1429. [19:51] <+Briggs> the bottom is a bilge pump, that pumps water up and off the side of the boat
1430. [19:51] <@DM> you have five deckhands, a helmsman, and a couple of riggers
  1431. [19:51] <@DM> let's see
1432. [19:51] <@DM> ooh, does not look good
  1433. [19:51] <+Alessa> couple of nigger riggers
  1434. [19:51] <+Briggs> I saw ralf go over
  1435. [19:51] <CovetousShen> [lol fc]
  1436. [19:51] <+Alessa> redguards
  1437. [19:51] <CovetousShen> [stole my fucking joke]
1438. [19:51] <@DM> three of the deckhands are still there. The helmsman is -- where? Good question!
1439. [19:51] <+Briggs> I should have hugh, murray, robben and bill.
1440. [19:51] <@DM> two of the riggers are there, too.
1441. [19:51] <+Briggs> those are the deckhands who are not ralf
  1442. [19:52] <@DM> you're missing Adelaide
1443. [19:52] <+Briggs> I would imagine that Adelaide would be under
  1444. [19:52] <+Briggs> but
  1445. [19:52] <+Briggs> well
  1446. [19:52] <@DM> and Chandler
1447. [19:52] <+Briggs> my assumption would be that she was under
  1448. [19:52] <@DM> yep
  1449. [19:52] <+Briggs> since she's warren's daughter
  1450. [19:52] <@DM> oh
  1451. [19:52] <@DM> okay
  1452. [19:52] <@DM> legit
1453. [19:52] <+Rick> and she has my bag
  1454. [19:52] <+Briggs> I thought I heard Chandler's voice though.
  1455. [19:52] <+Doruk> "MA'AM!"
1456. [19:52] <@DM> anyway, Doruk and the first mate go to the pump, but as they start to bail water as fast as possible, something catches the first mate's eye
  1457. [19:53] <+Doruk> [oh right]
1458. [19:53] <@DM> and he seems to deflate
  1459. [19:53] <@DM> (I meant the first mate's voice, not chandler)
  1460. [19:53] <+Briggs> ooh
  1461. [19:53] <+Doruk> [he was a puffer fish?]
1462. [19:53] <+Briggs> that explains how his rope broke and I heard his voice :p
  1463. [19:53] <@DM> yes
1464. [19:53] <+Alessa> people deflating is definitely not natural
  1465. [19:53] <@DM> yes precisely.
  1466. [19:53] <+Alessa> I roll arcana
1467. [19:53] <+Lien> [the technical term is pufferfolk]
1468. [19:53] <@DM> that is definitely exactly what I meant.
1469. [19:53] <+Alessa> without seeing whats goin on

  1476. [19:54] <Briggs> [19:53] <@DM> that is definitely exactly what I meant.
  1477. [19:54] <Briggs> [19:53] <+Alessa> without seeing whats goin on
  1478. [19:54] <@DM> [sorry I had a laughing fit]
  1479. [19:54] <+Alessa> you missed everything iggy
  1480. [19:54] <+Doruk> I make a perception roll, DM
1481. [19:54] <+Doruk> to see why this wimpy man deflated
1482. [19:54] <@DM> Following his gaze, Doruk sees an inky black rock sticking up through the hull of the ship.
  1483. [19:54] <+Alessa> jk u misd nothing top lel
  1484. [19:54] <@DM> That cannot be good.
  1485. [19:54] <+Alessa> its lavos
1486. [19:55] <+Doruk> "By the wind and rain!"
  1487. [19:55] <+Wind> [wind!]
  1488. [19:55] * Doruk pumps furiously
  1489. [19:55] * DM "Well, that's it, then."
  1490. [19:55] <+Doruk> "This will work?"
  1491. [19:55] <+Wind> [pumps furiously]
1492. [19:55] * DM "No use, lad, the ship's holed."
  1493. [19:55] * DM "We'd best tell the Captain."
  1494. [19:55] <+Doruk> "But I see no land"
  1495. [19:55] <+Doruk> [do I?]
  1496. [19:55] <+Alessa> theres a rock
  1497. [19:55] <@DM> well, you're belowdeck
  1498. [19:56] <@DM> so no.
  1499. [19:56] <+Doruk> oh good
1500. [19:56] <+Alessa> is it just jutting out fro, the ocean depths
  1501. [19:56] <@DM> you're belowdeck, so no
  1502. [19:56] <+Alessa> from*
1503. [19:56] <+Doruk> [turns out we landed on the college]
  1504. [19:56] <+Lien> [IN THE FUTURE]
  1505. [19:56] <+Doruk> as I am from the mountains
1506. [19:57] <@DM> A little dejectedly, the first mate lets go of the pump and starts climbing back above.
1507. [19:57] <+Doruk> I would like to see what kind of rock this is
  1508. [19:57] * DM "Captain!"
1509. [19:57] <+Lien> [roll for initiative against the rock]
  1510. [19:57] <Briggs> "Yes?"
  1511. [19:57] <@DM> it's basalt, with a crust of seaweed
1512. [19:57] <+Wind> [are Ratz and Wind supposed to be just sittin there?]
  1513. [19:57] * fc_mobile ([email protected]) Quit ( Ping timeout: 121 seconds )
1514. [19:57] <+Ratzenberger> [not much for our areas of expertise here[
  1515. [19:57] <CovetousShen> [roll for sitting]
  1516. [19:58] <+Doruk> [I'll go back to Ratz]
  1517. [19:58] * DM "The ship's run aground."
1518. [19:58] <CovetousShen> [well one thing is sure about boats, it's that there's always a surplus of labor for too few jobs]
  1519. [19:58] <Briggs> "We're aground? There's no land for leagues from here!"
  1520. [19:58] * fc_mobile ([email protected]) has joined #nesdnd
  1521. [19:58] <@DM> not... entirely true
  1522. [19:58] * Lien sees another jellyfish
  1523. [19:58] <+Doruk> [the map lied!]
1524. [19:58] <+Alessa> its lex luthors island of kryptonite from superman returns
1525. [19:59] <@DM> if you see the little bits of islands north of Caephlyn
  1526. [19:59] <@DM> that's where you are
  1527. [19:59] <+Wind> [is that 2 jellyfish?]
  1528. [19:59] <Briggs> Are we moving?
1529. [19:59] <+Lien> [yes you should keep the jellyfish count as well as the suicide count]
  1530. [19:59] <Briggs> ?roll 1d20+6
  1531. [19:59] <+Doruk> [Lien is Dory]
  1532. [19:59] <tBot> Briggs: 11 ([5] +6)
1533. [19:59] <+Alessa> werent we headed to cahlyn
  1534. [19:59] <+Wind> [will do]
  1535. [19:59] <+Alessa> carphlyn, for some reason
  1536. [19:59] <+Alessa> caephlyn
  1537. [19:59] <@DM> We are not moving.
  1538. [19:59] <Briggs> "Any hull damage?"
1539. [20:00] <@DM> on the plus side, the storm seems to have faded
1540. [20:00] * DM "Aye, it looks bad."
1541. [20:00] <Briggs> "Alright. Robben! Murray! Bill! Get down here with me!"
1542. [20:00] * Doruk sits in a puddle of water near Ratzenberger and Wind
1543. [20:00] <@DM> the crew quickly follow your instructions
  1544. [20:00] <+Doruk> "A rock defeats us."
1545. [20:00] <Briggs> "We'll caulk what we can. Get Carpenter Hart down here, we'll clog whatever's leaking for now.
  1546. [20:00] * Wind splashes Doruk
  1547. [20:01] <+Doruk> ._.
  1548. [20:01] <+Wind> :3
1549. [20:01] <Briggs> My orders are to caulk all of the leaks, and maintain constant bailing. We'll use shifts if necessary.
  1550. [20:02] <+Ratzenberger> "At least we're not dead. I'm a doctor, I know these things"
  1551. [20:02] <@DM> aight
1552. [20:02] <Briggs> Once we've got the leaking under control, we can begin to consider how we're going to get ourselves off of this rock."
1553. [20:02] <+Wind> "What if we are dead, and this is the afterlife? Ever thought of that, Doctor?"
1554. [20:02] <+Doruk> lol everyone forgets about the elf
  1555. [20:02] <Briggs> "Quiet Monk, we're far from dead."
1556. [20:02] <+Alessa> I grudgingly go about to see if I should cry or cry really hard
  1557. [20:02] <+Lien> [and rick]
  1558. [20:02] <CovetousShen> [hah, "monk", OWNED you]
1559. [20:03] <@DM> I suppose, Briggs, that I should let you know there is a small island just starting to come into sight to the south
1560. [20:03] <Briggs> [briggs has a bit of a single track mind here, right now she's working to keep the ship afloat, she's just lost at least one man]
1561. [20:03] <@DM> obscured before by the storms
1562. [20:03] * Wind considers splashing Briggs, thinks better of it
  1563. [20:03] * Lien sees a large flock of 23 jellyfish
  1564. [20:03] <+Lien> [is that like, a thing, a flock]
1565. [20:03] <@DM> likely, you know that this area is a bit of a treacherous region. You probably could have recognized it and steered clear
  1566. [20:03] * Doruk goes above deck
  1567. [20:03] <@DM> but rogue wave lol
  1568. [20:03] <+Wind> [25 Jellyfish, 8434 suicide considerations]
1569. [20:03] <+Alessa> sees that the ship is busted with a rock and the captain is telling people to try to fix it
1570. [20:03] <Briggs> Hm. Nothing to be done about that, but fix the current situation.
  1571. [20:04] <@DM> alright
1572. [20:04] <@DM> pause on the ship for a moment
1573. [20:04] * Doruk comes up on the deck and looks around
  1574. [20:04] <@DM> Rick
1575. [20:04] <@DM> you were knocked into the water
  1576. [20:04] * Briggs suddenly freezes in place. :p
1577. [20:04] <@DM> there was a pretty sharp tug around your waistline but apparently the sea didn't give a fuck about your deadline.
  1578. [20:04] <Briggs> [i am getting tired of playing 8-bit final countdown]
  1579. [20:04] <@DM> oh good point
  1580. [20:04] <+Alessa> swim for thirty miles
  1581. [20:04] <@DM> let's see
  1582. [20:04] <Briggs> [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WRu_-9MBpd4]
1583. [20:05] <Briggs> [that will be our new song]
1584. [20:05] <+Doruk> [way to go making me copy it]
  1585. [20:05] <@DM> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mTphL77ZSI4
  1586. [20:05] <@DM> was my thought
  1587. [20:05] <CovetousShen> [should be this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F-glHAzXi_M]
  1588. [20:05] <@DM> okay
  1589. [20:05] <@DM> Rick
1590. [20:05] <@DM> you were tossed into the sea
  1591. [20:05] <+Rick> mhm
1592. [20:05] <@DM> you are disoriented, confused, and have some water in your lungs
  1593. [20:05] <@DM> but hey, you're not dead
  1594. [20:06] * Rick thinks to himself "that's nice"
  1595. [20:06] <@DM> anyway
  1596. [20:06] <@DM> swim check
  1597. [20:06] * fc_mobile ([email protected]) Quit ( Ping timeout: 121 seconds )
  1598. [20:06] <+Rick> ?roll 1d20+4
  1599. [20:06] <tBot> Rick: 13 ([9] +4)
1600. [20:06] <CovetousShen> [oooh, you drown, tough luck]
1601. [20:06] <@DM> you stay afloat, thank good ness
  1602. [20:06] * fc_mobile ([email protected]) has joined #nesdnd
1603. [20:07] <@DM> but the ship seems to be out of sight now
1604. [20:07] <CovetousShen> [please ignore DM, hes hijacking my nes]
1605. [20:07] <@DM> you can see a little bit of rocky land
1606. [20:07] <@DM> crezth is this going to be a problem
1607. [20:07] <+Rick> [DM you can kick him]
  1608. [20:07] <+Alessa> no dont
  1609. [20:07] <+Rick> Obviously I swim towards it
1610. [20:07] <Briggs> [he is giving crezth a chance to cut it out, terrance]
1611. [20:07] <@DM> I know, I'd rather work it out before resorting to that.
1612. [20:07] <+Alessa> crezth is a friend to the fair peoples of nesdnd
1613. [20:08] <+Rick> because I have no other direction to pick
  1614. [20:08] <@DM> give me a second, Rick
1615. [20:08] <@DM> hmm, can you roll another check
  1616. [20:09] <+Rick> ?roll 1d20+4
  1617. [20:09] <tBot> Rick: 14 ([10] +4)
1618. [20:09] * Lien is extremely happy that he did *not* put on his armor before leaving his cabin
1619. [20:09] <CovetousShen> ["work it out" as if people can be reasoned with, as if they aren't vicious cruel animals, barreling endlessly towards the inky oblivion]
1620. [20:09] <@DM> hmm, you can swim, but it's tough, and you're battling the waves
1621. [20:09] * CovetousShen was kicked by DM ([email protected]) Reason (DM)
1622. [20:09] * Wind considers for a moment that he may die without knowing the feeling of a woman's body against his, as the ascetic code of his order requires. Alessa immediately pops into his mind as a possible chance to experience this before he dies, but he banishes the thought from his mind.
  1623. [20:10] * CovetousShen ([email protected]) has joined #nesdnd
  1624. [20:10] <+Rick> well fuck
1625. [20:10] <@DM> your only real hope is to get all the way to the island
  1626. [20:10] <@DM> but that's going to be tricky
  1627. [20:10] <@DM> have fun!
1628. [20:10] <+Rick> I take my knife off and cut off the rope
  1629. [20:10] <@DM> okay, Lien
  1630. [20:10] <CovetousShen> [silly bitch i'm indestructible]
1631. [20:10] <+Rick> it's the only thing holding me down
  1632. [20:10] * DM sets mode +b *[email protected] for #nesdnd
1633. [20:10] * CovetousShen was kicked by DM ([email protected]) Reason (DM)
  1634. [20:10] <@DM> you're in a similar situation
  1635. [20:10] <+Alessa> you can gold ur breath for con X 2 x 6 sec
  1636. [20:10] <+Lien> well
1637. [20:10] <@DM> so, roll an initial swim check
  1638. [20:10] <+Lien> I'll cast guidance as well, since I'll need that +1
  1639. [20:11] <+Lien> lucky I prepared it this morning
  1640. [20:11] <+Lien> ?roll 1d20+1
  1641. [20:11] <tBot> Lien: 4 ([3] +1)
  1642. [20:11] <+Lien> oh god
  1643. [20:11] <+Ratzenberger> [LOL]
  1644. [20:11] <@DM> well
  1645. [20:11] <@DM> this is a problem
  1646. [20:11] <@DM> you're drowning.
1647. [20:11] <+Alessa> failure is just failure to move
1648. [20:11] <+Alessa> he can hold his breath
  1649. [20:11] <+Lien> do I take damage?
  1650. [20:11] <@DM> not yet
1651. [20:11] <@DM> you can hold your breath and tread water
  1652. [20:11] <@DM> for, what is it
  1653. [20:11] <+Alessa> http://www.d20pfsrd.com/skills/swim
  1654. [20:12] <@DM> conx2 turns?
  1655. [20:12] <+Lien> however many seconds a turn is
  1656. [20:12] <+Doruk> yes
  1657. [20:12] <+Lien> that's a lot of turns
  1658. [20:12] <+Doruk> a turn is 6 secs
  1659. [20:12] <+Lien> 20, precisely
  1660. [20:13] <+Wind> so 2 minutes
  1661. [20:13] <+Wind> total, for you
1662. [20:13] * Lien realizes as he struggles that suicide REALLY is not a good option, at least not this way.
1663. [20:13] <+Lien> [yes, you can count that wind]
  1664. [20:13] <@DM> yep
  1665. [20:13] <@DM> okay
  1666. [20:13] <@DM> so
1667. [20:13] <Briggs> [don't start abruptly caring too much about your life, or you'll lose your clericy powers! :o]
  1668. [20:13] <@DM> you can do that
  1669. [20:13] <+Wind> [25 Jellyfish, 8435 suicide considerations]
1670. [20:13] <+Alessa> well that just meNs conx2 tries to gasp for air
1671. [20:13] <@DM> you might want to start swimming though
  1672. [20:13] <+Lien> ?roll 1d20+1
  1673. [20:13] <tBot> Lien: 10 ([9] +1)
1674. [20:13] <@DM> that said, I think the check is a standard action
  1675. [20:13] <+Lien> that was...better.
  1676. [20:14] <@DM> okay
  1677. [20:14] <+Doruk> swim is a move
  1678. [20:14] <@DM> you can surface
  1679. [20:14] <@DM> huzzah
1680. [20:14] <+Alessa> I think he can safely swim all the way if the waters calm
  1681. [20:14] <@DM> they're sort of calm
  1682. [20:14] <@DM> ish
1683. [20:14] * Lien gasps a breath of air and tries to fight the fear.
  1684. [20:14] <+Lien> Do I see the land?
1685. [20:14] <@DM> I assume you swim toward the island as well
  1686. [20:14] <@DM> yeah
  1687. [20:14] <+Lien> ?roll 1d20+1
1688. [20:14] <+Alessa> just roll for hourly fatigue
  1689. [20:14] <tBot> Lien: 11 ([10] +1)
  1690. [20:14] <+Lien> that's better too...
  1691. [20:14] <+Lien> baby steps.
1692. [20:14] <@DM> you have a much rougher go of it than Rick does
1693. [20:15] <@DM> by the time you manage to reach the little rock
1694. [20:15] <@DM> you pull yourself exhaustedly onto it
1695. [20:15] <@DM> and are too tired to move
1696. [20:15] <+Alessa> since i dont think theres any chance hed fail enougto not have air
1697. [20:15] <@DM> after a while, he notices you and pulls you more fully onto it
1698. [20:15] * Lien turns his head to see Rick.
1699. [20:15] <+Rick> good thing I have a hip flask full of alcohol
  1700. [20:15] * Lien "Is...this...hell"
  1701. [20:15] <@DM> it's a small island, some hundred feet across
1702. [20:15] <@DM> a copse of trees grows in the exact middle, little stunted, wiry pines
1703. [20:15] <@DM> flagged by the persistent winds
  1704. [20:16] <+Wind> [Survivor: Sellyck Island]
1705. [20:16] <+Rick> "It looks like we're going to spend a lot of time together, you and I." Rick says happily "A drink?"
1706. [20:16] <@DM> MEANWHILE, BACK ON THE SHIP
  1707. [20:16] <@DM> caulking efforts are going...
1708. [20:16] * Lien heaves and pukes a significant quantity of water onto Rick's face.
  1709. [20:16] <+Alessa> good mob
  1710. [20:16] <@DM> not so swimmingly
  1711. [20:16] <+Alessa> job
  1712. [20:16] <+Alessa> thats a great scene
1713. [20:16] <+Rick> "How do elves make even puking so graceful" rick sighs
1714. [20:16] <+Alessa> rick tries to be jolly ending with puking
1715. [20:16] <@DM> the ship is taking on water even as you try to bail it out
  1716. [20:17] <@DM> this could be problematic.
1717. [20:17] <+Alessa> thats not canon u cant take the last word on that scene
1718. [20:17] <@DM> you wonder if you can make the ship all the way to Caephlyn -- that'd be quite the feat -- or if maybe you should moor it and consider your options.
  1719. [20:17] <@DM> It's quite waterlogged.
  1720. [20:17] * Doruk is scared
1721. [20:17] <+Lien> [I wonder when briggs will notice her elf passenger and her awful lookout are gone]
  1722. [20:17] * Wind defers to Briggs
1723. [20:18] <Briggs> Well, we can't moor the ship until we stop the leaking.
1724. [20:18] <Briggs> We have to keep pumping to give ourselves time, and we need to get this leak stopped.
1725. [20:18] <Briggs> "Crew! Do we have any leaks beyond this great ugly chunk of rock?"
1726. [20:18] <+Doruk> [what do you want me to do?]
1727. [20:18] <@DM> it does not appar so
  1728. [20:18] <@DM> appear*
1729. [20:18] <+Lien> [did we ever resolve the whole voiceless chandler thing either?]
  1730. [20:18] <Briggs> "Keep pumping Doruk."
1731. [20:18] <+Lien> [er, voiced but incorporeal one]
  1732. [20:18] <+Doruk> "Yes, Ma'am."
  1733. [20:19] <@DM> yes
1734. [20:19] <Briggs> [I think that it was Holt who spoke, not chandler]
  1735. [20:19] <+Lien> oh
  1736. [20:19] <@DM> yes
  1737. [20:19] <+Lien> okay
1738. [20:19] * Doruk keeps pumping for Briggs
1739. [20:19] <+Ratzenberger> "Captain, I feel the services of an alchemist slash doctor are not very useful in this circumstance, but I would be happy to help in whatever capacity you need me"
  1740. [20:19] <@DM> alright
1741. [20:19] <@DM> can you roll a profession check to caulk that shit up
1742. [20:19] <+Alessa> is surveying ethe rock theyre in
1743. [20:19] <Briggs> So the idea is to stuff tarred cloths into leaks to limit them.
  1744. [20:19] <Briggs> Okay, I'll roll a profession check.
1745. [20:19] * Doruk can pump for long period of time
  1746. [20:20] <+Wind> "I also volunteer what services I can offer, Captain"
  1747. [20:20] <Briggs> ?roll 1d20+6
  1748. [20:20] <tBot> Briggs: 22 ([16] +6)
1749. [20:20] <+Doruk> [so you guys do the rest]
  1750. [20:20] <@DM> fantastic
1751. [20:20] <@DM> the main problem is the spire of rock you're on
  1752. [20:20] <@DM> how exactly
1753. [20:20] <@DM> are you going to attack that
  1754. [20:20] <+Doruk> [with my greatsword]
1755. [20:20] <Briggs> Alright, well, will this caulking reduce the leaking to a manageable level?
1756. [20:20] <+Alessa> what do I get from surveying the rock
1757. [20:20] <+Lien> [roll for initiative against the rock]
1758. [20:21] <+Alessa> I assume I can take twenty for Nature perception and whatever elze
1759. [20:21] <+Alessa> since this isnt gonna be a quick fix
  1760. [20:21] <@DM> yes
  1761. [20:21] <@DM> it's a rock
1762. [20:21] <Briggs> If the leaking is now under control, we will take some of our spare crossbeams and make a small brace that we can use to push up the ship.
1763. [20:21] <Briggs> How deep is the water around us?
  1764. [20:21] <+Alessa> like is it just a rock
  1765. [20:21] <@DM> variable
1766. [20:21] <+Alessa> not attached to an island
1767. [20:21] * Doruk focuses on pumping, but even he gets tired and has to change arms
  1768. [20:21] <+Alessa> or anything
  1769. [20:21] <@DM> it's a shoal, more properly
  1770. [20:22] <@DM> okay
  1771. [20:22] <Briggs> Alright
1772. [20:22] <@DM> I think that earlier check suffices for that
  1773. [20:22] <+Ratzenberger> [i have CRAFT, is that useful? :0 ]
1774. [20:22] <Briggs> get Warren hart to start making a brace frame
1775. [20:22] <+Lien> [has briggs seriously not realized that rick and lien are gone yet?]
1776. [20:22] <@DM> you fashion the brace and lever the ship off of the rock
  1777. [20:22] <@DM> [I think she's resigned to it]
  1778. [20:22] <@DM> boom
  1779. [20:22] <@DM> ship free
1780. [20:22] <Briggs> [actually, I was about to ask where the elf was, and if he had repairing magic]
1781. [20:23] <Briggs> Alright, and we want to put a patch in the damaged bit of hull before we lower the triple cross back into the water
1782. [20:23] <+Doruk> is the pump below deck?
1783. [20:23] <Briggs> once that's in place and sealed, we'll get everything tied back down, and see if...
  1784. [20:23] <Briggs> two pumps
  1785. [20:23] <Briggs> both below deck
  1786. [20:23] <Briggs> "Alright, Mister Holt, I want a headcount. Who's missing?"
1787. [20:24] <@DM> Holt notes that Ralph is still gone, as is Chandler, and Rick
  1788. [20:24] <@DM> and the passenger Lien
1789. [20:24] * Briggs has a sad look on her face.
1790. [20:24] <+Alessa> is just lazing about on the rock, taking in the afternoon sun
  1791. [20:24] <+Alessa> the suns visiblright
  1792. [20:24] <+Alessa> or is it rainig
1793. [20:24] * DM sets topic to: The Ailing Earth, Session 1: To Caephlyn!? D= http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qsFuCaQyoYM
1794. [20:24] <Briggs> [ooc thing about time, it was the mid-afternoon when that happened, is night approaching?]
1795. [20:25] <@DM> the storm lasted a couple of hours
1796. [20:25] <@DM> it would be supper time
1797. [20:25] <@DM> at least it would be if you were in decent places.
1798. [20:25] <Briggs> "Alright, Doruk, Hugh, Murray, seal down the ballast, make sure that the hold's still in place, and re-stack and re-secure everything."
  1799. [20:26] * Doruk doesn't know what a ballast is.
  1800. [20:26] <@DM> but fortunately
1801. [20:26] <@DM> the other two show you what to do
1802. [20:26] <Briggs> "Mister Holt, get the telescope, and see if you can find any survivors."
1803. [20:26] <Briggs> [sailing wise, if we start moving again, would we reach Caephlyn tonight?]
1804. [20:26] <@DM> A couple of minutes later, Holt notices the two people lying on the island, not far off. And tells you, obviously.
1805. [20:27] <@DM> [tonight meaning like, real time, or in game]
1806. [20:27] <Briggs> "Get the rowboat, they might be our crew."
  1807. [20:27] <Briggs> [tonight in-game]
  1808. [20:27] <@DM> [tomorrow, probably]
  1809. [20:27] <+Rick> [yay]
1810. [20:27] <Briggs> "Mister Holt, Mister Nutter, take the rowboat to the island, and recover any survivors you can."
  1811. [20:28] <@DM> Alright.
1812. [20:28] <Briggs> "I'll see to it that we're ready to sail ere yo return."
1813. [20:28] <@DM> The rowboat goes out, and approaches the position of Lien and Rick.
1814. [20:28] * Doruk is amazed by the ballast stones
  1815. [20:28] * DM "Oi!"
  1816. [20:29] <@DM> (Holt is quite eloquent)
1817. [20:29] * Rick has been talking to Lien the entire time
1818. [20:29] <Briggs> I'll take this time to give the ship a twice-over, and stops with Doruk, Hugh and Murray.
  1819. [20:29] <+Rick> "Ahoy!"
  1820. [20:29] <+Alessa> takes a na
  1821. [20:29] <+Alessa> p while all this goes ons
1822. [20:29] <+Alessa> letting her familiar keep watch
1823. [20:30] <Briggs> "Don't worry about the ballast stones, they should stay in the bilge. I'm more concerned about the cargo. Barrels of olive oil and citrus are ballast just as much as stones, and we want to make sure the ship's balanced before we set sail again."
1824. [20:30] <@DM> So, the rowboat picks up our two wayward passengers, and brings them back to the Triple Cross.
  1825. [20:30] <@DM> sploosh sploosh, sploosh.
1826. [20:30] * Lien has been saying nothing.
1827. [20:30] * Doruk looks worried and wet
1828. [20:30] * Lien is shivering sporadically though.
  1829. [20:30] * Rick didn't notice
1830. [20:30] <@DM> You find no other serious leaks, but the rather alarming hole in the ship is... rather structural.
  1831. [20:30] <+Alessa> zzz
1832. [20:30] * Briggs is on deck to see the survivors return.
1833. [20:30] * Rick did take his shirt off and drapped it around Lien though
1834. [20:30] <Briggs> "Master Elf. Mister Stevespoke. I'm elated to see you alive."
1835. [20:31] * Ratzenberger has returned to the upper deck, he will deal with the inevitable mess in his lab later
1836. [20:31] <+Alessa> theres wood in the nearby island right
1837. [20:31] * Lien picks up the wet rag and throws it off the side.
  1838. [20:31] <+Rick> "Aye."
  1839. [20:31] * Lien coughs, "Yes, yes..."
1840. [20:31] <@DM> yes, alessa, but you don't really have the ability to get there quickly
1841. [20:31] <@DM> mostly as the ship is not going there presently
1842. [20:31] <Briggs> "Mister Hart, you can disassemble the frame, and do what you can to make the patch last until we reach Caephlyn."
  1843. [20:31] * Rick didn
1844. [20:32] <+Rick> notice that Lien threw away his only shirt
  1845. [20:32] <+Alessa> set the villagers to r
1846. [20:32] <Briggs> I order Rosie Sutton to start preparing dinner.
  1847. [20:32] <+Alessa> whoops
  1848. [20:32] <+Alessa> haha
1849. [20:32] <@DM> The kitchen is an absolute mess, and anyway it's fairly late in the voyage now, too, so it'll be mostly salted meats and hardtack.
1850. [20:33] <+Alessa> im paying for the meals btw
1851. [20:33] * Lien had a witty retort prepared but was too busy shivering.
  1852. [20:33] <+Alessa> i dont have rationa
  1853. [20:33] <+Alessa> s
1854. [20:33] <@DM> But the survivors are happy enough for the food.
1855. [20:33] <@DM> They're still a little shaken over losing two of the crew
  1856. [20:33] <@DM> but there you are.
  1857. [20:34] <Briggs> speaking of which.
1858. [20:34] * Briggs stands up during dinner.
1859. [20:34] * Wind gives his share of the meats to Lien
1860. [20:34] <Briggs> "Now, we've outlasted the storm. We've taken the very worst that the Sellyck can throw at us, and our vessel, bless her, has gotten through."
1861. [20:35] * Lien doesn't eat much, but is silently appreciative.
1862. [20:35] <fc_mobile> ill switch to a diff machine carry on
1863. [20:35] <Briggs> "We'll be in Caephlyn tomorrow, and many of you will be going on your separate ways."
  1864. [20:35] * DM sets mode +v Briggs for #nesdnd
  1865. [20:35] <@DM> sorry
  1866. [20:35] <@DM> carry on
1867. [20:35] <+Briggs> "But know that two men died today, died serving their duties to the very end."
  1868. [20:35] * Alessa ([email protected]) Quit ( Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client )
1869. [20:36] <+Briggs> "There will be a service for Misters Ralf Baxter and William Chandler after dinner."
1870. [20:36] <+Briggs> "Those of you who knew them, come and speak, and send our words to our perished friends in the hereafter."
  1871. [20:36] * Doruk listens from abovedeck
1872. [20:37] <+Briggs> "Those of you who did not, I ask of you to show your respects, to two outstanding sailors, taken by the old man of the deep."
1873. [20:37] <+Briggs> "Now eat well, and tomorrow dine on solid ground."
  1874. [20:37] * Briggs sits back down.
1875. [20:37] <@DM> [Iggy, would you like to go through the service?]
1876. [20:38] <fc_mobile> shitty mac keyboarf but much better
  1877. [20:38] <+Briggs> [we could do that]
  1878. [20:38] <@DM> [either way]
  1879. [20:39] <+Briggs> [we'll do it]
  1880. [20:39] <@DM> okay
  1881. [20:39] <+Briggs> [death is a serious thing]
1882. [20:39] <+Lien> [I am sort of semi in favor of fast forwarding through the service :p]
  1883. [20:39] * Alessa ([email protected]) has joined #nesdnd
1884. [20:39] <+Briggs> [we coudl semi fast forward it]
1885. [20:39] <@DM> While the skies begin to darken above, the crew and passengers gather on the deck.
1886. [20:39] <Alessa> [holy shit this is so liberating typing on a proper keyboard]
1887. [20:39] <@DM> The stars wheel overhead, and a silence falls over the crowd as the Captain begins to speak.
  1888. [20:39] * DM sets mode +v Alessa for #nesdnd
1889. [20:40] * Doruk looks at the sea instead of the service
  1890. [20:41] <@DM> Iggy?
1891. [20:41] * Briggs speaks a service in memory of the two perished sailors. One deckhand, one helmsman. She speaks of Officer Chandler's years of dutiful service, his calmness under pressure, and his fondness for whittling wooden sculptures. She talks of Ralf, the youngest of the deckhands, a man quick with a smile and blessed with a selfless heart.
  1892. [20:42] <@DM> =/
1893. [20:42] * Briggs states that they will all be dearly missed by her and by those who know them, and may the zephyrs carry their souls on into the mysteries beyond the world.
  1894. [20:42] * Ratzenberger tears up
1895. [20:43] * Briggs asks for a moment of silence.
  1896. [20:43] * Doruk doesn't know what a zephyr is
  1897. [20:43] * Doruk is silent
  1898. [20:43] * Rick resists a sob
1899. [20:43] * Wind lowers his hat over his face, masking his emotions
1900. [20:43] <+Briggs> And as the moment of silence comes to its end, she gathers her crew, and asks them to unfurl the sails, so that the journey to Caphlyn may continue.
1901. [20:44] <@DM> As the service ends, the ship begins to slowly limp towards the great city of Caephlyn. Its sails might be torn, and its hull punctured, but somehow, the ship has managed to get through it all intact. The breeze is light, now, and on your port you can see the Verdant Coast, an almost hauntingly beautiful place of pastureland and forest.
1902. [20:44] <+Briggs> I'll steer us away from the dangerous rocks, and onwards towards Caephlyn.
1903. [20:44] <@DM> Most of you are asleep for much of this, though a few of the more adventurous stay awake.
1904. [20:44] * Alessa prepares Mending, Guidance, and Detect Magic for the next day--and two instances of Sleep.
1905. [20:44] * Briggs stands quietly at the tiller.
1906. [20:44] * Alessa has a lot of presumably water-damaged stuff and she'll have to get to fixing them
1907. [20:45] <@DM> It is in your bruised and battered state, as the sun rises over the land, that the Triple Cross rounds the bend north of Caephlyn, passing the estuary of the Needl and tracking slowly toward the harbor.
1908. [20:45] <+Briggs> It is the morning now, and Captain Briggs is waking herself up with a cup of Pepper Tea.
1909. [20:45] * Rick stays awake at the rigging
1910. [20:45] * Alessa Mends her grooming kit posthaste, and spends a good half hour fixing herself
1911. [20:45] * Rick prepares a ballad to the dead at dawn
1912. [20:45] <@DM> Above the city, the flag of the Unicorn piercing a prickly pear -- a bizzare image that no one really knows the origins of -- flutters
  1913. [20:46] <+Briggs> [i know the origins hurhur]
1914. [20:46] * Doruk swings his sword before everyone wakes up
  1915. [20:46] <+Lien> can I roll a knowledge: nobility check
1916. [20:46] <@DM> Standing strong over the harbor is the Porcupine, a renovated artillery fort, bristling with cannon.
  1917. [20:46] * Doruk is like a pretty butterfly
  1918. [20:46] <@DM> sure
1919. [20:46] <+Lien> to see if I know the origin
  1920. [20:46] <+Lien> ?roll 1d20+6
  1921. [20:46] <tBot> Lien: 14 ([8] +6)
1922. [20:46] <+Alessa> Diary, Diary, oh lovely Diary, she writes, I am ever so sorry for last night; these incompetents were no match for the fury of the sea.
  1923. [20:46] <+Lien> and/or anything else
  1924. [20:46] <@DM> you don't
  1925. [20:46] <@DM> sad times.
  1926. [20:46] <@DM> you know it's a large city, and a proud one
1927. [20:46] <@DM> and that it's been making some trouble in the region lately.
1928. [20:47] * Lien really should know more about the place he's going to be ambassador of
1929. [20:47] <+Briggs> I hail the naval fort with the hoisting of a merchant flag.
  1930. [20:47] <@DM> you really should.
1931. [20:47] <+Alessa> [you could buy a book and roll again maybe]
1932. [20:47] <@DM> The fort seems curiously incurious about your ship, but it's hard to tell from this distance.
  1933. [20:47] <+Lien> well I'll roll knowledge: geography then
  1934. [20:47] <+Lien> ?roll 1d20+6
  1935. [20:47] <tBot> Lien: 18 ([12] +6)
  1936. [20:47] <@DM> [you know stuff
1937. [20:47] <@DM> I'd just rather not interrupt the narrative at the moment]
  1938. [20:47] <+Lien> [oh.]
  1939. [20:47] <@DM> [by telling you a whole lot]
1940. [20:47] <+Doruk> [and here I repeat what I said to Briggs earlier, about helping with the unloading/loading for a tiny bit of coin]
  1941. [20:47] <+Lien> [gotcha]
1942. [20:48] * DM sets topic to: The Ailing Earth, Session 1: To Caephlyn http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bn2XD42R5DE
  1943. [20:48] <+Briggs> "Doruk."
1944. [20:49] <+Doruk> "There are no wild rabbits here..."
1945. [20:49] <+Doruk> "For bread in this city I need coin"
1946. [20:49] <+Briggs> "I can provide you with several days of food. You did very well, Doruk Bearheart. You did well, yesterday."
1947. [20:50] <+Briggs> "You could do well on a ship, Barrenlander."
1948. [20:50] <@DM> The ship begins to sidle up alongside a pier.
  1949. [20:50] * Doruk nods with a teenage blush
1950. [20:50] <+Briggs> "And I'm sorry that you have to go on."
1951. [20:50] <@DM> The docks are almost all deserted.
  1952. [20:50] <@DM> Except yours.
  1953. [20:50] <+Doruk> "I do not belong here."
1954. [20:50] <+Briggs> "I bid you the best of luck in your journey... hmm."
  1955. [20:50] * Briggs squints.
1956. [20:50] * Lien retrieves his staff and his commission of office from his cabin.
1957. [20:50] <@DM> A welcoming party seems to have been formed.
1958. [20:50] * Ratzenberger gathers up his necessities
1959. [20:51] <+Briggs> I move up to the side of the Triple Cross as the deckhands throw their ropes over to the shore party.
  1960. [20:51] * Briggs shouts "Hail."
1961. [20:51] <@DM> They catch them, of course, and start to lash the ship to the dock.
1962. [20:51] * Doruk not knowing how odd this is begins to pack his things.
1963. [20:51] * DM "Hail! Were you one of the ships in that there storm?"
1964. [20:51] <+Briggs> "The city is oddly quiet today."
1965. [20:52] * Lien walks onto the aftcastle to stand with the Captain.
1966. [20:52] <+Briggs> "Yes, we lost two men and found ourselves pinned upon a rock, but we escaped with some damage."
  1967. [20:52] * DM "Hmm."
1968. [20:52] <+Briggs> [the captain is actually on the main deck]
  1969. [20:52] <@DM> The man
  1970. [20:52] <@DM> 's expression is unreadable.
1971. [20:52] * Doruk begins to look for a way off the boat
1972. [20:52] * Lien walks to the railing, and calls out. "Sir, I wish to present myself to the authorities."
  1973. [20:52] <+Doruk> [is there a ramp?]
1974. [20:52] <+Briggs> "We have a cargo to unload, and we will need to put the ship in a drydock to repair its hull."
  1975. [20:53] <+Briggs> "Of course, Master Elf."
  1976. [20:53] * DM "I see that."
  1977. [20:53] <+Briggs> "May your diplomatic mission be a success, Lien-Lai."
1978. [20:53] * DM "If you could all come ashore, Captain..."
1979. [20:53] <+Briggs> "If you need to inspect my cargo, I have a manifest aboard."
  1980. [20:53] * Doruk is coming ashore
  1981. [20:53] <+Lien> hm
  1982. [20:53] * DM "Indeed, indeed."
1983. [20:53] * Lien narrows his eyes for a moment.
  1984. [20:53] <+Doruk> I'll jump if I have to
  1985. [20:53] * Lien "Captain..."
1986. [20:53] <+Doruk> but I'd rather not break my legs
  1987. [20:54] <@DM> I believe there is a ramp.
1988. [20:54] <+Briggs> [laws of the town, do I know if I'm allowed to wear a weapon]
  1989. [20:54] <@DM> [you are]
1990. [20:54] * Lien tightens his hands on his staff. "Wait."
  1991. [20:54] <+Briggs> Alright.
1992. [20:54] * Lien calls out to the man, "Why are there no other ships here?"
1993. [20:54] * Briggs collects her ledger and places her musket over her back, and then comes off to meet with the shore party.
1994. [20:54] * DM "No one got through that storm, lad."
1995. [20:54] * Doruk has a huge pack on his back, with a greatsword and longspear crossing on top of it.
1996. [20:54] * Briggs comments to Lien-Lai "It is very strange... I've never seen it before.
1997. [20:55] * Lien grabs Briggs by the shoulder. "Captain, wait. This doesn't seem right."
1998. [20:55] * Doruk walks down the ramp to the dock, awkwardly nodding to the reception
  1999. [20:55] * Wind I agree, Captain
2000. [20:55] * Briggs pauses, then turns to the man on the shore.
2001. [20:55] <+Briggs> "Doruk, hold. Gentlemen, why are there no ships in the harbour? Did they not seek shelter here?"
  2002. [20:55] * Doruk stops
2003. [20:56] * Doruk looks back and forth between the groups
2004. [20:56] * Alessa coudn't get any more excited to go out into the city, but waits to go out as lastly as possible
  2005. [20:56] <+Doruk> [I'm halfway on the ramp]
2006. [20:56] <+Briggs> [how many in the shore group?]
2007. [20:56] * DM "Begging your pardon, m'lady, but I think it'll take a little while longer to explain, and I'd rather not shout an explanation back and forth for ten minutes or so..."
  2008. [20:56] <@DM> there are about fifteen
  2009. [20:56] <+Lien> How are they dressed?
2010. [20:56] * Ratzenberger is apprehensive, clumsily clutching his dagger
2011. [20:56] <@DM> in hauberks with the arms of the city
2012. [20:57] <+Doruk> "Why wait?" he asks Briggs
2013. [20:57] * Doruk looks at the city
  2014. [20:57] <+Briggs> "We'll go as a group."
2015. [20:57] * Doruk is confused by this
2016. [20:57] <+Briggs> I will gather a party to go ashore with these gentlement, and discuss the strange events of the past day.
  2017. [20:57] <+Briggs> *gentlemen
2018. [20:58] <@DM> As you come ashore, the ship's crew filing out one by one, Captain Briggs comes face to face with the commander of this guard.
2019. [20:58] <@DM> He looks at you a bit sheepishly, stares down at his feet for a moment.
2020. [20:58] <@DM> Then meets your gaze, and says
  2021. [20:58] <+Briggs> [do I know him by name?]
2022. [20:58] * DM "Begging your pardon again, m'lady... it's not how I like to do things... But I'm afraid you're under arrest."
  2023. [20:58] <@DM> and
  2024. [20:58] <@DM> either we take a break there
2025. [20:59] <@DM> or end the session for today
2026. [20:59] * Briggs looks sideways at a boat, for a moment, and then back to the guard.
  2027. [20:59] <@DM> I'm fine either way
  2028. [20:59] <+Briggs> "On what charges?"
  2029. [20:59] <+Doruk> take a break?
  2030. [20:59] <+Doruk> D:
  2031. [20:59] <+Lien> Yeah, I need to end/take a break too

  2102. [21:02] <+Lien> ohh
2103. [21:02] <@DM> that if you were competent enough
  2104. [21:02] <@DM> it would survive
2105. [21:02] <@DM> and just need a few weeks of repairs
  2106. [21:02] <+Lien> I really thought I was going to die
2107. [21:02] <+Lien> when I did my little rogue wave suicide attempt

2218. [21:07] <+Luckymoose> so now I've got to wait 7 days to find out why we're being arrested
  2219. [21:07] <+Luckymoose> :(

  2257. [21:10] <@NK> I GIVE YOU SOMETHING THAT'S NOT PURE COMBAT
  2258. [21:10] <+azale> not how i want to go
  2259. [21:10] <@NK> BOOOOOOOOOO
  2260. [21:10] <@NK> BULLSHIT
  2261. [21:10] <+Luckymoose> well, it was a good session
2262. [21:10] <@NK> amusingly enough, the helmsman went offscreen because a roll I did IRL ended up being a two
  2263. [21:10] <+azale> yea it was fun
2264. [21:10] <+Luckymoose> though iggy can't telling me "NO, GO UNDER"
  2265. [21:10] <+Luckymoose> :p
  2266. [21:10] <+Luckymoose> so I didn't get much to do yet
2267. [21:10] <+fc> combat is fun dealing with NATURE is boring cuz NATURE has no character
  2268. [21:10] <@NK> it's not the nature
2269. [21:10] <@NK> is how you deal with being fucked over by it
  2270. [21:11] <+Terrance> I hope my character isn't inconsistent
  2271. [21:11] <@NK> nah I like the characters
2272. [21:11] <+azale> i could only imagine what would have happened if iggy wasnt preternatually amazing at captaining
  2273. [21:11] <@NK> well
2274. [21:11] <+fc> I think those volcano movies, twister, titanic
2275. [21:11] <@NK> the ship would have been lost
  2276. [21:11] <+fc> are all boring too
  2277. [21:11] <+Luckymoose> here's a question NK
2278. [21:11] <@NK> and you would have had to go onto the island
2279. [21:11] <@NK> and figure out a way off it
  2280. [21:11] <+fc> and it'd be like Lost
2281. [21:11] <+Luckymoose> did the guards say "you're under arrest"
  2282. [21:11] <+Luckymoose> as in
  2283. [21:11] <+azale> i have SURVIVAL perk
2284. [21:11] <@NK> then, presuming you got to the shore
  2285. [21:11] <+Luckymoose> the royal you
  2286. [21:11] <+cicero> My biggest accomplishment
  2287. [21:11] <+cicero> Was making friends :3
2288. [21:11] <@NK> the exact same thing would have happened when you walked into Caephlyn
  2289. [21:12] <+cicero> Being vegetarian has benefits
  2290. [21:12] <+cicero> sharin my beef
2291. [21:12] <+Iggy> Well, to help plan things out, I'm not going to try to resist arrest.
2292. [21:12] <+Luckymoose> so from what they said
2293. [21:12] <@NK> they meant as in all of you
  2294. [21:12] <+Luckymoose> can I assume that "I" am under arrest?
2295. [21:12] <+Iggy> I'm going to hand my weapons back to my crew... oh
  2296. [21:12] <+Luckymoose> or just briggs
  2297. [21:12] <+Iggy> oh wait we're /all/ under arrest?
  2298. [21:12] <+Iggy> On what charges then?
2299. [21:12] <@NK> he could have phrased it slightly better
2300. [21:12] <+Iggy> Or do we learn that next session?
  2301. [21:12] <@NK> it's more like "house arrest"
2302. [21:12] <@NK> but I'll let him explain it tomorrow, yeah
  2303. [21:12] <+Iggy> Alright
  2304. [21:12] <+Iggy> well
  2305. [21:12] <+Iggy> depending on the charges
  2306. [21:12] <+Iggy> my reaction might vary.
  2307. [21:12] <+Luckymoose> no one arrests a Rahidman
2308. [21:13] <+fc> I need to buy a few more things to complete my outfit
  2309. [21:13] <+fc> a hat
  2310. [21:13] <+fc> for one
  2311. [21:13] <+azale> so tomorrow
2312. [21:13] <+Luckymoose> Rahid is going to be something that means mountain guy
  2313. [21:13] <+azale> we all talk in a house!
2314. [21:13] <+Luckymoose> probably not our native tongue
  2315. [21:13] * azale ([email protected]) Quit ( Quit: ChatZilla 0.9.90.1 [Firefox 26.0/20131205075310] )
  2316. [21:14] <+Iggy> Heh.
2317. [21:15] <+Iggy> I mean, if I'm in house arrest, I'm stuck on the boat.
2318. [21:15] <+Luckymoose> int and wis even out so he doesn't talk like an austrian or anything
  2319. [21:15] <+Iggy> Because I don't actually have a house other than that.
  2320. [21:15] <@NK> well
2321. [21:15] <@NK> not house arrest, either, really
  2322. [21:15] <@NK> more like
  2323. [21:15] <+Luckymoose> city arrest
  2324. [21:15] <+Iggy> arrest arrest?
  2325. [21:15] <@NK> confined to the palace
  2326. [21:15] <+Iggy> :p
  2327. [21:15] <@NK> yes
  2328. [21:15] <@NK> that one
  2329. [21:15] <@NK> city arrest
  2330. [21:15] <@NK> arrest arrest
  2331. [21:15] <+Luckymoose> as in we can't leave
  2332. [21:15] <+Iggy> I'm curious to see why they'd do such a thing.
  2333. [21:15] <+Terrance> city arrest!?
  2334. [21:15] <+Luckymoose> my free spirit
  2335. [21:15] <+Luckymoose> is being crushed
  2336. [21:15] <+Terrance> well, whatever they say, I guess
2337. [21:15] <+Luckymoose> and I don't have the balls to challenge the law
  2338. [21:16] <+Terrance> I'm sure there's a good reason
2339. [21:16] <+fc> Alessa is like eighty years old she's had run-ins with the law since forever
  2340. [21:16] <+cicero> I'm required to follow the laws
2341. [21:16] <+Iggy> You don't win by challenging the law when you're outnumbered.
2342. [21:16] <+cicero> but can they arrest the elf diplomat?
2343. [21:16] <+Luckymoose> they better not try to take my sword
2344. [21:16] <+Iggy> That would provoke a diplomatic spat, you can bet.
2345. [21:16] <+Luckymoose> that is my family sword
  2346. [21:16] <+Luckymoose> and I'll hit people with it
  2347. [21:16] <@NK> diplomatic immunity?
  2348. [21:16] <@NK> HAH
  2349. [21:16] <@NK> it's the 15th century equivalent
2350. [21:16] <+fc> and being LAWFUL she follows it however bullshit it may be
  2351. [21:17] <+fc> not even a single level
  2352. [21:17] <+fc> after like eight hours
  2353. [21:17] <+fc> haha
  2354. [21:17] <+Luckymoose> eight hours?
  2355. [21:17] <+Luckymoose> we played 3 and a half
2356. [21:17] <+fc> idk we started at like
  2357. [21:17] <@NK> yeah
  2358. [21:17] <+fc> 4 and it's now 9
  2359. [21:17] <@NK> 8:25-12
  2360. [21:17] <+Luckymoose> nope
2361. [21:18] <@NK> I like how even if we take your times, fc, it's still 5
  2362. [21:18] <@NK> :p
  2363. [21:18] <+Luckymoose> I spoke a total of
  2364. [21:18] <+Luckymoose> 10 lines?
  2365. [21:18] <+Luckymoose> maybe less
  2366. [21:18] <@NK> :D
  2367. [21:18] <+fc> eight hours and not a level
  2368. [21:18] <@NK> too much RP
  2369. [21:18] <+Iggy> I have to say
  2370. [21:18] <@NK> too little whacking stuff
  2371. [21:18] <+fc> at this rate like I said
  2372. [21:18] <+Iggy> I need to buy new tethers
  2373. [21:18] <@NK> lol
2374. [21:18] <+fc> three months in we'll be level two at best
  2375. [21:18] <@NK> in fairness, Iggy
  2376. [21:18] <@NK> it was a fuckin' huge wave
  2377. [21:18] <+Iggy> Maybe so
  2378. [21:18] <+Luckymoose> we didn't fight anyone yet, fc
  2379. [21:18] <+Luckymoose> that'll level us
  2380. [21:18] <@NK> like
2381. [21:19] <+Iggy> But I've lost too many people to broken tethers before.
2382. [21:19] <@NK> sink your ship kind of wave
  2383. [21:19] <+Luckymoose> buy chains
  2384. [21:19] <+Luckymoose> or elven rope
  2385. [21:19] <+fc> I can't wait to be able to fly
2386. [21:19] <+Iggy> chains thrashing around in a storm will smash up the ship.
  2387. [21:19] <+Iggy> they're also murderously heavy
  2388. [21:19] <+Iggy> elven rope, maybe
2389. [21:19] <+Luckymoose> Doruk did not enjoy that storm
2390. [21:19] <+Iggy> out of my price range though
  2391. [21:19] <+fc> I didn't enjoy the storm
2392. [21:19] <+Luckymoose> and will probably not go back on the boat without a lot of talking down
  2393. [21:19] <+fc> player
  2394. [21:19] <+fc> haha
  2395. [21:20] <+Iggy> I didn't enjoy it either. I honestly don't think I've lived through such a tempest before.
  2396. [21:20] <+Iggy> wait
  2397. [21:20] <+Iggy> this is still IC
  2398. [21:20] <@NK> haha
2399. [21:20] <+Luckymoose> I hope they don't make briggs and alessa wear slave outfits
  2400. [21:20] <+Luckymoose> that would be unfortunate
  2401. [21:20] <+Iggy> Caephlyn's better than that.
  2402. [21:20] <+Iggy> .... I think
  2403. [21:20] <+Iggy> >_>
  2404. [21:20] <+Luckymoose> SLUG KING
2405. [21:20] <@NK> okay, I have no other sesion tomorrow
  2406. [21:20] <@NK> huzzah
  2407. [21:21] <+Iggy> HUZZAH
  2408. [21:21] <+Iggy> DEATH TO NK'S OTHER STUFF
  2409. [21:21] <+Iggy> :p
  2410. [21:21] <+fc> I will escape in a puff of darkness
  2411. [21:21] <+Luckymoose> briggs wouldn't even give him a chance
  2412. [21:21] <+Luckymoose> she'd chain choke him right away
2413. [21:21] <+Luckymoose> but if Doruk was interested in seeing that
  2414. [21:21] <+Luckymoose> for science
  2415. [21:21] <+Luckymoose> where would Doruk go
2416. [21:21] <@NK> yeah Caephlyn would pride itself on being a somewhat civilized place.
2417. [21:21] <+Luckymoose> I just realized Doruk is almost Turok
2418. [21:21] <+Iggy> to be fair, briggs isn't so much opposed to dressing scantily, as she is to appearing unprofessional
  2419. [21:22] <+Luckymoose> and I'm a noble savage
2420. [21:22] <+Iggy> to wear a uniform is to be the unifor
  2421. [21:22] <+Luckymoose> trope
  2422. [21:22] <+Iggy> m
  2423. [21:22] <+fc> what if she was working at a TGI Friday's
  2424. [21:22] <+Luckymoose> so what you're saying is
2425. [21:22] <+Luckymoose> we're going to have that special anime episode
  2426. [21:22] <+Luckymoose> where briggs is in a bikini
  2427. [21:22] <+Iggy> Her personality in a TGI Friday's
  2428. [21:22] <+fc> or was a stripper
2429. [21:22] <+Iggy> would leave her very depressed.
2430. [21:22] <+fc> it would be extremely unprofessional
  2431. [21:22] <+Luckymoose> and we're at hot springs
2432. [21:22] <+fc> to not be scantily clad
2433. [21:22] <+Luckymoose> and the plot is like
  2434. [21:23] <+Luckymoose> pie eating contest
  2435. [21:23] <+Luckymoose> or something
2436. [21:23] <+Iggy> Oh, the dress code wouldn't bother her
2437. [21:23] <+Luckymoose> my con is the best
2438. [21:23] <+Luckymoose> so I'd win the pie eating contest
  2439. [21:23] <+fc> I could've been an orc
2440. [21:23] <+fc> and went full witch doctor
2441. [21:23] <+Iggy> Unless some alchemist snuck laxatives into the pie.
  2442. [21:23] <+fc> basically instead of int
2443. [21:23] <+Luckymoose> cute tiefling girl is better
  2444. [21:23] <+fc> con becomes your ability
  2445. [21:23] <+fc> score
2446. [21:23] <+Luckymoose> even if she smells of sulfur and blood
2447. [21:23] <+fc> for determining things int would normally do
2448. [21:23] <+Luckymoose> and molests people for laughs
  2449. [21:24] <+fc> CON-based caster
2450. [21:24] <+Luckymoose> con is my high stat
  2451. [21:24] <+Luckymoose> I never get sick
  2452. [21:24] <+Luckymoose> I can work for long hours
  2453. [21:24] <+fc> yeah cute was important
  2454. [21:24] <+fc> thats why I didn't totally dump cha
  2455. [21:24] <+fc> I could've switched Wis and Cha
  2456. [21:24] <+Luckymoose> doruk dumped CHA
  2457. [21:24] <+fc> 8 Cha and 13 Wis
  2458. [21:24] <+Luckymoose> I have 7 charisma
2459. [21:25] <+Luckymoose> but it isn't his looks that are bad
2460. [21:25] <+Luckymoose> so much as his shyness
  2461. [21:25] <+Luckymoose> and stuff
2462. [21:25] <+fc> but I already have a nonpositive Cha as it is
2463. [21:25] <+Luckymoose> he looks fairly average and turkish
  2464. [21:25] <+Luckymoose> with long black hair
2465. [21:25] <+Luckymoose> swaying in the ocean breeze
2466. [21:26] <+fc> what time will ther sesh be tomorrow nk
  2467. [21:26] <+Iggy> man
2468. [21:26] <+fc> now that you have NO OTHER GAME
2469. [21:26] <+Iggy> writing this captain's log is getting depressing
  2470. [21:26] <+Terrance> oh fuck
2471. [21:26] <+Terrance> I should be writing shit as well
2472. [21:26] <+Iggy> At the squall's climax, a terrible wave fell upon the vessel, and my dear friend and second mate William Chandler was lost in similar conditions. I do not look forward to my next meeting with his wife.
2473. [21:27] <+Luckymoose> we should reverse the cliche
2474. [21:27] <+Luckymoose> and put doruk in a hutt slave uniform
  2475. [21:28] <+fc> ooh
  2476. [21:28] <+fc> that reminds me
  2477. [21:28] <+fc> of a drawing by joel jurion
  2478. [21:28] <+Luckymoose> anyway
2479. [21:29] <+Luckymoose> is the food going to be free while we're in palace jail?
  2480. [21:29] <+Luckymoose> if so I won't mind much
2481. [21:29] <+Luckymoose> so long as none of my friends get beat up
2482. [21:29] <+Luckymoose> you can hit the witch or rick
2483. [21:29] <+fc> im not linking it tho
  2484. [21:29] <+Luckymoose> but not too much
