  1. Dear Allan/Kris,
  2.
  3. First of all, thank you for putting in all the hard work to get BSD Now episodes out to us so regularly. I always enjoy watching them.
  4.
  5. I’m based in Hong Kong and Macao and have used FreeBSD for most of my server needs since 1999.
  6.
  7. I recently started a new project involving paid videos for corporate training. We are running the web font-end on a FreeBSD box but our video server (delivering videos to our paying customers after they log in to the web front-end) is Kaltura on CentOS. This is because, try as they may, our developers can’t find a good video server solution for BSD. Do you know of one? Kaltura is clunky and often very frustrating but it handles everything from subtitles, to video watermarking, to player size, to encoding in multiple formats.
  8.
  9. If possible, I would rather move everything to FreeBSD. For starters I want ZFS on the video server boxes! Do you know if anyone has ever worked on a Kaltura port for FreeBSD? Or are there better alternatives out there that you know of? Netflix runs FreeBSD after all, but I’m not sure exactly how.
  10.
  11. I’d be very grateful for any insight or guidance.
  12.
  13. Thanks so much,
  14.
  15. Dylan.
