  1. Context: Anime con, me selling stuff. 99% of the time spent on selling or looking at the people passing by. Average age range: 14-18 years old, but going up to 25 or so. Small groups of close friends. Most were pretty dumb but I was dumb at their age so I don't blame them. People occasionally pass by my stand and ask about prices or purchase things. These are the most relevant ones I remember.

  3. Case one: Some people (two girls, one boy) came to my stand and asked what I was selling, I replied and we started talking about anime. He mentioned a few titles (don't remember which, they were post 2000's) and I said I'd look them up later, then when he asked what kind of stuff I watched and I started explaining some 80's classics I loved and why. He didn't seem impressed but politely pretended not to be bored, though it was obvious even for me, so I changed the topic to more recent ones. One of the girls disappeared somewhere, the other said she liked Ghost in The Shell (The shows I mentioned are mostly action, so the conversation went from there). I asked if she read the manga and she said she didn't because she doesn't understand english, she also didn't seem to have understood the movie but liked the general air of the thing. That's fine. I explained more or less the differences and what I thought Oshii wanted to represent, she looked slightly nervous, the guy told her he'd move forward, and the girl then asked me some prices for the stuff I sold and moved as well. The detail here is, they moved to the stand next to me and stayed there for a while looking at the stuff, so it's not like the guy was going to disappear completely and she had a reason to chase after him so desperately. Conclusion? No idea, seems like they were being polite but not genuinely interested. Ages: 16 or 17.

  5. Case two: other guys came and asked about my merchandising, but weren't really interested (except one of them) and started talking among themselves while the other listened to me. Once I ended the explanation he thanked me. He seemed pretty shy too, so I suppose he wasn't really that close with the others. All the while I had my best merchant attitude on when interacting with his friends, then accepted the money and saw them go away. Not a single one listened to me, except the shy guy. But they payed so I didn't mind. Conclusion? They were dicking around on their own, and asked probably because they thought what I was selling was somehow exotic but decided they wanted to play with it instead. The guy who listened seemed to be more sensible than them. Average age: 14. Understandable.

  7. Case three: Some guys where talking about "Japanese Games". I mentioned Visual Novels, there was no interest. Fine. I mentioned a few doujin titles. No interest. Fine. I then mentioned a few good fighting games. No interest. Just what could these fine gentleman be interest in, then? I wondered. Well, turns out they were pretty mainstream games, that's fine on its own, but not my cup of tea. I listened for a while but realized that me butting in was actually not worth my time. Conclusion? I mixed with the wrong people. Average age: Around 20.

  9. Case four: Me sitting on my stand. An old lady approaches and asks about my work. Looks genuinely interested, we talk for a while, she came with her kids and was mixed along the whole "japanese mania" because she was interested in blending more with the hobbies of her children. A pretty cool Miss if you may. Probably the best conversation in the whole day. I enjoyed it as well, but we ended talking about economy and country problems. Small, adult chat, good on its own, not for friendship. Conclusion? The kind of conversation you can have anywhere, but that I hardly have. Refreshing. She was too old though and I doubt she saw me as other than some guy selling stuff. Age: 40 or so.

  11. Case five: I see a miko costume. It was pretty good, so I asked the girl if she made it herself, she said she bought it but that she made the mask. I thought this would be a good chance since I'm interested in handcrafting of all sorts, but then I saw she didn't really want to talk so I gave it one last glance to see if I could make something like that later and saw her go away. Conclusion? She wasn't interested in talking, I suppose she had better things to do.

  13. Case six: Some people was spouting Japanese phrases next to my stand and where discussing whether some of them were right. I butted in and explained as politely as possible the differences, and why they actually weren't right. They asked if I knew Japanese, I said yes. Cool, how did you learn. Games. Cool, what kind of games. Visual Novels. Oh cool, I wish I knew Japanese too. Any advice? Study hard, no easy way. Then they moved away. Conclusion? I shouldn't have bothered. Average age: 17.

  15. As you can see, pretty boring shit.
