  1. How to approach Gawker's ad tech vendors and analytics providers:
  2.
  3. 1. Be sure to put your own spin on the message and include the proof at hand as to make sure they know you are a real person, with real concerns.
  4. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  5. 2. Here's an example for the people who don't know how to approach these companies:
  6.
  7. Start off by telling that you have recently been informed or made aware that one of their affiliates, Gawker Media, has abused their terms of service. If you're not entirely sure, you could also say that they MIGHT have done that.
  8.
  9. Use a direct link when addressing an article or tweet where possible. Briefly tell them what the article or tweet is about, and which part of their ToS has been abused. If it's a longer article, be more specific. 3 or 4 links should be sufficient.
  10.
  11.
  12. Example:
  13.
  14. In accordance with your advertising guidelines which state the following: "Criteo does not accept partner that display…Any image, graphic or content that is obscene, includes nudity, sexually suggestive text, images or situations or otherwise uses inappropriate or provocative language", I would like to bring to your attention the practices of the Gawker Media Network, which makes use of your services.
  15.
  16.
  17. You don't necessarily need to name celebrities, as you could also refer indirectly to them as public figures
  18.
  19. Don't mention GamerGate, and certainly don't ask or even suggest that they drop their ads or analytical services. End the email by stating that you thought it was important they would be made aware of the abuse.
  20.
  21. Also: NO COPY-PASTE. It doesn't need to look like bots are writing these emails. Use a thesaurus where necessary.
  22.
  23. Don't hesitate to ask questions or to post your draft so other people can give you advice.
  24. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  25. 3. Dear Sir/Madam,
  26.
  27. It has come to my attention that a company you affiliate with, Gawker Media, has on numerous occasions abused your Terms of Service.
  28.
  29. Direct Link 1 + Brief explanation of content
  30.
  31. Direct Link 2 + Brief explanation of content
  32.
  33. Direct Link 3 + Brief explanation of content
  34.
  35. xxx takes the integrity of its brand seriously and thus I believed it important to bring to your awareness the circumstances explained above, which are a small sample of Gawker's practices.
  36.
  37. Yours faithfully (Sincerely if you know the name of the person you're writing to)
