  1. “Alright Mags, this is it, the first official fight of your career. Now remember, Fa-” said a tall, dark-skinned man, his words cut off by the wave of a small white hand, and a high pitched, feminine sigh.
  2.
  3. “Fast and hard, left and right, don't give 'em a break, I know I know! Jeez, Doc.” Maggie said, rolling her shoulders as Doc's strong hands rubbed her shoulders. “Ya act like I never been inna fight before. Ya gonna tell me to dance like a fly and bite like a mosquito next?” she added, looking over her shoulder to smirk at her friend, her green eyes filled with mirth. Doc just sighed, and shook his head.
  4.
  5. “Yeah well this ain't like when we were kids, Mags, you're on your own in there.” he replied, his right hand leaving her shoulder to scratch behind her large rodent ears. “Keep your wits about you, I don't wanna see you gettin' too roughed up.” he added, eliciting a scoff from the large mouse.
  6.
  7. “Ya worry too much for yer own good, Derek.” she replied, as she stood up from the simple wooden bench, rolling her shoulders again. She turned around, facing her friend, and grinned at him. “But that's what I always liked about ya, Doc, yer heart's always in the right place” she continued, leaning over to give the taller man a quick, affectionate peck on the cheek. He chuckled, and looked away from Maggie, turning to rummage through a duffel bag. He then pulled out a small, jade hair band, followed by a pair of green boxing gloves. Maggie grabbed the hair band from his hand first, and started to pull her long black hair back into a messy pony tail. “So, what's the scoop on this Josephine chick?” she asked, her hands leaving her hair to adjust her black sports bra and green shorts.
  8.
  9. “She's an Elf, been through the Minor Circuit a few times, no wins under her belt.” Doc answered, as he helped Maggie put on and lace up her gloves. “I don't want you treatin' her like she's made of glass cause of that, though. You take her out in the first round, and I'll treat you to a nice dinner tonight. Sounds fair?” Doc continued.
  10.
  11. “As long as I get ta pick the place, Doc.” she replied, smiling, as Doc finished tying her gloves. He chuckled again, and lightly tapped her on the cheek with his hand.
  12.
  13. “Cheesecake Factory?” he asked, raising an eyebrow. Maggie closed her eyes and gave an enthusiastic nod, her smile still on her face.
  14.
  15. “Yep, ya know me too well, babe!” she replied, and tapped her gloves together. She leaned in again, preparing to give Doc another peck on the cheek, when they were interrupted, the door leading out of the locker room opening wide.
  16.
  17. “Margret McCallister?” asked an older man, his head peeking from behind the door. The large mouse stood up straight, and nodded quickly. “Alright, the match begins in five minutes, you're in the blue corner.” he replied, and left just as quickly. Doc rummaged around in the duffel bag once again, and pulled out a few towels and a water bottle. He then stood up behind Maggie, standing a good head and a half above the shorter mouse girl, as he placed his hand on her shoulder.
  18.
  19. “Ready?” he asked simply. Maggie turned around, and beaming brightly at him.
  20.
  21. “Damn right I am!” she answered, practically hopping in place.
  22.
  23. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  24.
  25. “In the Red Corner, standing at five foot seven, Josephine Glaisyer!” the older man from earlier yelled out from the center of the ring, his voice booming through the mostly empty venue. The few members of the audience talked amongst themselves quietly, only paying partial attention to the ring in the center of the room. “And in the Blue Corner, standing at five foot even, Maggie McCallister!” he continued. The large mouse in question looked around the large room, frowning at the lack of audience members. She then looked across the ring at her opponent, and smirked. Josephine didn't look like much of a threat, the blonde elf's thin frame appeared to have barely any real muscle mass. Clad in a white sports bra and shorts, with red accents, Maggie couldn't help but notice that she looked tired, slouching on her stool with a resigned frown. The announcer left the stage, as the short and portly mustachioed referee walked to the center, gesturing to both girls. Maggie stood up, and walked over to him, as Josephine did the same.
  26.
  27. “Keep it clean, girls.” he said simply, as the two stared at each other, and tapped their gloves together. Maggie grinned, her green eyes locked onto the elf's blues.
  28.
  29. “Hey, let's try ta have some fun, kay?” she said, as the two stepped back away from each other. Josephine merely sighed, and raised her gloves up, getting into her stance. Maggie followed suit, her gloves raised just below her face as she hopped from side to side. The referee left ring, and with the clang of the bell, the fight started.
  30.
  31. Maggie immediately closed the distance, throwing hard left and right jabs at Josephine, striking her in the gut. The elf lowered her gloves to block the hits, as Maggie bounced around. The large mouse smirked, and threw a hard right-hook into Josephine's face, striking in her the jaw.
  32.
  33. “Baise! Not the face!” she exclaimed, and pulled her gloves back up over her jaw. Maggie giggled, and jabbed at her stomach again, giving her another right-hook to the elf's face when she tried to block. The large mouse kept this pattern, hopping and giggling as she pummeled the taller girl. Josephine, having enough of this treatment, growled as she stepped backwards. “Non! I won't lose to this crevette!” she yelled, waving her glove at Maggie. The large mouse was quite sure the elf was giving her an obscene gesture, and smiled wide, tapping her own gloves to her chest.
  34.
  35. “Bring it on, bitch!” she yelled back, causing the elf to glower at her. Josephine rushed in, winding her right fist back in a telegraphed punch. Maggie grinned, and went low, putting all her weight behind her left fist, as it hooked into the elf's stomach. Josephine stopped in her tracks, letting out a huff of breath, her form trembling.
  36.
  37. “...merde...” she muttered, and slumped onto the mat, curling up as she held her stomach. Maggie hopped from left to right, watching the elf intently, while the referee solemnly counted to ten. The bell clanged out again, and the referee climbed back into the ring, walking over to the large mouse. He grasped her right hand, and raised it in the air.
  38.
  39. “And the winner, by knock out, Maggie McCallister!” the referee shouted, as Maggie looked around the venue, an ecstatic smile on her face. The referee then let her go, and she rushed over to her corner, stepping out of the ring. Doc was waiting for her, and he tousled her hair affectionately.
  40.
  41. “Christ, Mags, you took her out in forty seconds!” Doc said, giving her a wide grin. Maggie let out a giddy laugh, bouncing in her place, the adrenaline in her system still pumping through.
  42.
  43. “If they keep givin' me gals like her, I'll be champ in no time, babe!” Maggie replied. “Now enough dilly-dallyin'! You owe me dinner, Mr. O' Connell!” she added, tapping her glove on the taller man's chest. The large mouse felt ecstatic, even though it was her first fight, and a quick win, she was now one step closer to being a boxing champion.
