If you read my last paper entitled “Pokemon and Socialization” you already know what a Pokemon is but in case you don’t I will give a very brief overview of what they are. In the words of Professor Oak “People and Pokémon live together by supporting each other. Some people play with Pokémon, some battle with them” They are essentially the pets of that universe and you may think that would not cause controversy or lawsuits but you would be extremely wrong. Today I will cover the controversies this franchise has accumulated and then showing you what the actual reasons behind them all. I will start with alleged Nazi symbolism, proceed to issues multiple religions have had with Pokemon, move onto gambling and animal cruelity, quickly go over a few lawsuits involving Pokemon and banned episodes , and finish off with the most famous case of Jynx possibly being blackface.
