  3. W: Another day, another fortress, another rift to defend. They always seem to break through the doors. *pause* We should do something about that.

  9. W: Is it just me, or do these attacks seem more organized these days? Works for me, I like it when enemies bunch up for mass slaughtering.

  14.
  15. W: Another attack where our defenses are thin? If I didn't know better, I'd think the orcs were learning.

  21. W: I once asked the Old Man what would happen if the orcs made it through the rifts into our world. He got all gloomy faced and said "Step into their shattered world beyond the fortress gates and YOU WILL KNOW." So, yeah. He coulda just said "It'd be bad."

  27. W: I feel more connected to the rifts every time I defend one. It's like they're filling my head with more... smartness?

  33. W: The rumor is that a lot of us warmages are falling in battle. I wonder how many are left to hold the forts.

  38.
  39. W: So, now the Order has sent me to the fortresses on the Western Line. It's a dangerous region, but I laugh at danger. And kittens. They're just so cute - and funny!
  40.
  41. ---
  42.
  43. S: Ah, there you are, I've found you...
  44.
  45. W: What's that? I'm starting to hear voices. And not even the good kind that are saying things like 'You're the most handsome warmage ever!' but spooky things I can't understand.
  46.

  50.
  51. W: Twin Halls. One of the oldest of the rift fortresses. The paladins say it's haunted. I don't know about that, but I can say it could use a good dusting.
  52.
  53. ---
  54.
  55. S: Such a pathetic thing you are, so soft, and weak...
  56.
  57. W: Okay, I definitely didn't imagine that! It's a woman's voice.
  58.

  62.
  63. W: I know I didn't imagine that voice. Whoever she is, I don't think she likes me. And I don't understand - how could anyone not like me?
  64.
  65. ---
  66.
  67. S: I see inside your mind. Into all the dark corners where you hide from the world.
  68.
  69. W: Hey lady- save the flirting. I'm trying to kill orcs here!
  70.
  71. ***
  72.

  74.
  75. W: Where am I now... oh, the Library. Where the Order stores 10,000 years of the collective wisdom of our most brilliant minds. Nope, nothing useful here.
  76.
  77. ---
  78.
  79. S: Sometimes children need discipline...
  80.
  81. W: So yeah, scary voice in my head - still scary. Maybe if I ignore her she'll just go away.
  82.

  84.

  86.
  87. W: What was it the Old Man used to say? 'Apprentice, rub my corns!' No, wait, 'Apprentice, empty my bedpan!' No, that wasn't it either...
  88.
  89. ---
  90.
  91. W: Wait, I got it! 'Apprentice, the Order will defeat the enemy because we fight for a cause. The orcs may be numberless, but they are also purposeless and leaderless.' Well, you were wrong Old Man. They got a leader now.
  92.
  93. S: So you have seen it at last. The orcs are mine, child, bound to me each and every last one.
  94.
  95. ***
  96.
  97. 17
  98.
  99. W: So the orcs are dancing to this woman's... thing... that makes... orcs dance. Well, I can make orcs dance too. And by dance, I mean die, when I poke 'em with my bladestaff.
  100.
  101. ***
  102.
  103. 18
  104.
  105. S: Will you fight my numberless horde until the end of your days, little one? SUBMIT.
  106.
  107. W: Oh please don't send me more orcs, scary woman's voice! How could I possibly survive?!
  108.
  109. S: Brave and foolish both... you will beg for mercy before we are through.
  110.
  111. W: Ooo, big words for someone who hides behind a bunch of dumb orcs.
  112.
  113. S: Your Order has known of me for years, child, and I know them. I was of the Order once.
  114.
  115. W: Uh...huh.
  116.
  117. ---
  118.
  119. S: Little one, you have been lied to for so very long. It's no wonder you don't know what truth is.
  120.
  121. W: Less talk, more orcs please!
  122.
  123. ***
  124.
  125. 19
  126.
  127. S: There is an easier path for us both. Why will you not open your mind to me?
  128.
  129. W: Well to start with you're really arrogant and you talk like a history book.
  130.
  131. S: Impossible child. Your will is strong, but I will break you.
  132.
  133. W: I shoulda guessed you were ex-Order. You sound just like the Old Man, only female, and... maybe cuter.
  134.
  135. S: You are the LAST of the Order now.
  136.
  137. ***
  138.
  139. 20
  140.
  141. W: Is she lying? Is the rest of the Order really dead? There's a limit to how long only one warmage can hold the line, even if that one warmage is me.
  142.
  143. ---
  144.
  145. S: Join me at my side - be my general, my consort! Why can you not love me as the orcs do?
  146.
  147. W: You know the way you constantly nag nag nag - it's your least attractive quality.
  148.
  149. S: Die like the rest then! Join your MASTER in the grave's cold embrace!
  150.
  151. W: Yes dear, right away dear, whatever you say dear.
  152.
  153. ***
  154.
  155. 21
  156.
  157. S: Weak, pathetic, SMALL child! Why will you not let me teach you?
  158.
  159. W: That's what the Old Man used to say.
  160.
  161. S: I will feast on your heart and bathe in your blood!
  162.
  163. W: He used to say that too, when he got a little drunk.
  164.
  165. S: Ugh, I am done! You will never know the pleasures we could have had together.
  166.
  167. W: Whoa- yeah, he never said that.
  168.
  169. ***
  170.
  171. 23
  172.
  173. W: Is this my future? I just keep on fighting until the Sorceress kills me and breaks through into our world? One last warmage against an entire world of orcs and ogres.
  174.
  175. W: ...no thanks, I'll take what's behind door number two!
  176.
  177. ---
  178.
  179. S: The Order is gone! Why resist me? The rifts are mine, I NEED them!
  180.
  181. W: Oh yeah, that's true isn't it... you're a warmage too! You draw your power from the rifts.
  182.
  183. S: Let me through! Let me pass! LET ME IN!
  184.
  185. ***
  186.
  187. 24
  188.
  189. W: Without the rifts there's no magic anymore - on EITHER side. Did the Order mages know? They must have!
  190.
  191. ---
  192.
  193. W: I think I remember... the Old Man showed me how. But he said to never, ever actually do it, or it'd be the end of everything.
  194.
  195. S: I know what you're planning - I SEE INSIDE YOUR MIND.
  196.
  197. W: Step back through a rift and seal it behind me, severing all the connections between our world and theirs. Is it really THAT simple?
  198.
  199. S: Your world DIES if you choose that path! DON'T THINK IT! DON'T!
