- Note: This guide assumes you understand basic Minecraft (controls, features) so if you're not up to speed go do that first. Any controls mentioned herein are Pixelmon defaults, and can be changed via the in-game menu.
- Logging in
- When you first enter the server the chat box will prompt you to login by typing the following:
- /login [password]
- with [password] being whatever you choose to set it as. You will not be allowed to move until you do upon connecting to the server.
- Rules
- /vp/ Pixelmon doesn't have many strict rules or settings. While we like a bit of mischief that comes with the anarchy, being a fucking dick/nigger/asshat in general is frowned upon. That pertains mostly to
- Destroying other people's shit: Just don't. So long as people aren't griefing, we wont have to bother with land protection/blacklists/anti-fun. Try to keep it that way.
- Excessive stealing: Many players will leave extra supply chests out that are welcome to be taken from. As part of the game, if you find someone's chest, there's nothing to stop you from getting your sticky fingers on some free food or materials. Going full klepto and cleaning people's houses out falls under the pretense of "being a fucking dick/nigger/asshat". If you have something particularly valuble (such as TMs or a stack of Poké balls), consider using a secondary, hidden chest or crafting an Ender chest for your more valuble goods. Also note that PCs and Healers cannot be taken once placed, so trying to steal one of those falls under the first guideline.
- Choose a starter Pokémon
- A large menu will appear asking you to select one of the starter Pokémon from gen 1-5 to be your first Pokémon. It will appear as a Lv5 Pokémon in a plain poke ball in a list on the left side of the screen. In some cases the server settings will make the starters shiny, if so, it applies to everyone. Don't make a fuss over it.
- Battling with your Pokémon
- After recieving your first Pokémon you can send it out of it's ball by pressing the R key, and pressing R again to withdraw it. Throwing the Pokémon's ball at a wild Pokémon will start a battle. Try aiming at the Pokémon's head or feet if no battle starts. In some cases, wild Pokémon are glitched and will be frozen in place and unable to be battled. Pokémon battles work just like in the games, though some moves occasionally don't work properly (such as Sing sometimes putting the user to sleep).
- When you obtain more Pokémon, they will appear in your party until it is full, at which point they are deposited in the PC. To change which Pokémon will be released with the R key, use the left and right brackets ( "[" and "]" ) to select the active Pokémon.
- Food
- You'll quickly notice that the mod still incorporates Minecraft's hunger system, which will deplete your HP and disable your running ability once the food meter drops low enough. In Pixelmon, your HP can only drop to 1/2 heart from starvation, and there are no hostile mobs that attack you directly. You can still die from fire/falls/drowing/suffocation, and the running condition is still present, so keeping well fed is still recommended. In addition to the normal Minecraft farming systems, food items are also found by defeating certain wild Pokémon.
- Chicken is dropped from bird Pokémon such as Pidgey, Fearow, and Torchic
- Fish are dropped from fish Pokémon such as Magikarp, Goldeen, and Carvanha
- Beef is dropped from Miltank and Tauros
- Munchlax and Snorlax are also known to drop various food items, such as Melons, Potatoes, Carrots, and Apples.
- Poké balls
- Short Version:
- Apricorns are cooked, then crafted into Poké Ball Discs, to be hammered on an anvil to make a Poké Ball Lid. The base is crafted from three iron/aluminum ingots, then hammered on an anvil. The Lid and Base are crafted with a Stone Button to make a Poké Ball.
- Detailed Version:
- In Pixelmon, Poké balls need to be crafted in order to be used, like any other Minecraft tool. Poké balls are crafted from three main parts: a Poké Ball Lid, a Poké Ball Base, and a Button.
- Poké Ball Lid
- The first step to creating a Poké Ball Lid is to harvest the appropriate apricorns (more on that later). Apricorns are found on small round trees that look similar to the ones in Pokémon Gold, Silver, Crytal, HeartGold, and SoulSilver. To harvest an Apricorn, right click the colored bulb on top of the tree. If there is no bulb, or a flower is in its place, that means a new Apricorn is growing. These Apricorns are raw, and can be planted to grow new Apricorn trees.
- In order to craft them into a Poké ball, they must be cooked in a furnace. A cooked Apricorn will be darker and have a different name than regular Apricorns.
- In order to craft the Poké Ball Lid, you must arrange the cooked apricorns on a crafting table in a row of three with the appropriate colors for the Poké Ball Lid you intend to make. For example, to craft a regular Poké ball, you would use three red apricorns (RED-RED-RED). For a Great Ball you would use two red apricorns and a blue (RED-BLU-RED).
- Once crafted, the apricorns will combine into one or more "Poké Ball Discs". These discs must be placed onto an anvil. The anvil used to craft Poké Balls is different from the Minecraft block used to repair items, and has a more rounded, defined shape to it. These anvils are often found in player's houses or public buildings. They can be crafted from 8 iron ingots, arranged to fill the slots on a crafting table except for the middle right.
- To use the anvil, right click it while holding a Disc to place it on the anvil. You then hold the left mouse button while holding a Hammer tool. While hammering, the Disc will slowly take shape until it is done. When the Lid is ready it will be put back into your inventory. Hammers made from higher quality material will work faster.
- Button
- The Poké Ball's button can be crafted from a plain stone Button item. The Button is crafted from a single block of Stone. Not to be confused with Cobblestone, Stone is harvested by placing Cobblestone into a fueled furnace.
- Poké Ball Base
- The Poké Ball Base is crafted similarly to the Lid. Instead of using cooked apricorns, however, the Base is crafted from a row of 3 Iron or Aluminum Ingots. It must then be hammered in the same way the Lid was. Iron or Aluminum Poké Ball Bases can be used to craft any type of Poké Ball other than Master Balls, which cannot be crafted by players.
- Crafting the Poké Ball
- Once the three parts are prepared, a Poké Ball can be crafted by placing the Poké Ball Lid, Button, and Poké Ball Base on a crafting grid with the Lid on top, a Button in the middle, and the Base on the bottom. Once crafted, Poké Balls can not be broken back down into their parts, and can only be used once, just like the main games.
