  1. ...and he awoke to the faint hiss of venting atmosphere.
  2. The weightlessness caught him off guard, and his confused writhing sent him flying in the zero gravity environment. He spun and twirled in the emptiness that was once full of his comrades.
  3. Hooking his foot into one of the frames on the wall, he stopped his acrobatics and curled into the metal. He braced himself against the wall and activated the built-in flashlight on his suit. The ASTU was unprepared for what he saw, or more specifically, what he didn't see. As nothing was there, the room was empty. The only thing worth noticing was a hole on the side of the wall that opened into the vast expanse of an inky blue void. Blue wisps of energy, slowly reached into the room. Everything was completely silent.
  4. Except for the faint hiss of venting atmosphere, which he suddenly remembered. He looked around, nearly panicking. Searching every nook and cranny on his armor. Then he found it, a small hole in the armor that broke into a web of cracks on the underside of his helmet. Checking his reserve oxygen levels, he was surprised. He would be running out soon, and when it runs out, suffocation comes not to long after.
  5. He shook his head, this was not how he had intended to go out. Craning his head around the room, he noticed that there was no blood, no corpses, nothing. Aside from the large hole, there were no other signs of a disaster.
  6. Pulling himself across the ship, he brought himself to the cockpit. The power was off, and he couldn't brace himself to pull open the door. Perhaps if he tried using his suit's battery pack to open the door? He'd need to find some--
  7. That's all he could think of when he was suddenly shoved into the door, and bounced off. Something holding onto his back, and ripping at his armor. The ASTU spun and kicked his feet off the cockpit doors, sending both of them hurtling towards the back of the ship.
  8. They clanked soundlessly into the metal walls. Whatever was holding onto him had let go, and he swung his arm. The swing altered his momentum and spun his entire body to face his attacker. Using his foot to stop himself on the floor grating. His attacker writhed in mid air for a few moments, like an animal trying to rid itself of fleas. It latched onto one of the frames on the walls and stopped itself. The creature faced him. It was metallic, and reminded him of a cross between an insect and a human. It's eyes were glowing purple, and energy flowed out of it like fire.
  9. The ASTU braced himself as best as he could, and the creature lunged at him. He kicked his legs off the ground and sent himself to the ceiling, curling himself into a ball. The creature flew past him and out into the inky blue void. He looked out and watched it fly away, vanishing into a very distant speck. He pulled himself cautiously towards the hole and peeked his head out.
  10. There were many more of them, crawling about the hull of the ship. Scratching at the systems and tearing through the metal. Whatever remained of the cockpit was no more. A few of the creatures looked out at the one he sent flying. They looked over at him and let out a soundless hiss.
  11. "Well shit," he muttered to himself, preparing for the oncoming battle.
