wad's nvidia issue

New Lenovo IdeaPad y510p
with NVIDIA GeForce GT755M GDDR5 2GB

Fresh install of ubuntu-13.10-desktop-amd64.iso
But now, after grub selection of Ubuntu, screen blanks. Audio indicates at login prompt though.

(I can specify nomodeset in grub, and remove quiet and splash, but that just gets me to a shell prompt.)

So I installed: NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-331.20.run

Same problem. dmesg shows this:
