IPv6, the most important tool for social liberation

I am assuming everyone here has heard of IPv6. Those who are familiar with it know the fact that there will be 2^128 available addresses for use. To put that into perspective, read this quote from beej.us/guide/bgnet/output/html/singlepage/bgnet.html

You may be thinking, "big deal, there are more addresses available than what we have use for." I think that this is a massive lie that we tell ourselves, and is something that I told myself for a long time. What I have come to realize is that implementing ipv6 will be one of the most important social changes for the internet because it will successfully allow everyone on this planet to have trillions of available IP addresses for whatever they want. This is a brand new market, and will lead to a complete paradigm shift in technology because everyone will be allowed to have a home server. The reason why it is so important that people have this sort of capability is because it gives people the option to take control over their data. Imagine a world where the websites you access are simply modules for a personal home web server. Effectively, this gives people the power to decide when they will be connected to the internet. This is the largest issue that I and most of my friends have with modern technology, we cannot decide when we will be disconnected from everything. This, I believe, is socially disruptive and does not leave people with a piece of mind since they can be judged by others at all hours of the day. Our virtual lives on many social networks build a fake ego that lives on the internet which can be far from who we really are. We try to make an identity which is perfect under the universal judgement eye, our thousands of peers we expose ourselves to in these online communities. In effect, this leads to us being hypercritical of this digital ego. If we had control over how and where this ego is displayed, just like our real world ego, social networks could be an important tool in the western world again. No doubt have they helped with revolutions in more oppressive states, but I think it is time to change our system of communication which allows control over one's personal data.

The idea of personal data is a massive issue today, and many government institutions are abusing their power to exploit this data for supposed "security" reasons. Also this opinion is certainly biased, it is one that is shared by many; but, I will not go further into this world. What is important is to realize that decentralization of web technologies, as proposed above with the power of IPv6, would allow for users to properly secure their data without external entities spying upon them. Encrypting personal data, and backing it up in a state that looks like noise, would virtually stop all of this spying nonsense from the software side of things. This does not include a solution for the hardware side of things, but it helps solve part of this whole privacy issues.
