- Name: The Republic of Riak'shama
- Species/Subrace: The Umenpayak
- DCS Member Species: Yes
- Fluff: Born on a slow moving, planetoid, the Umen payak are a race of creatures that Highly resemble the Terran Arachnids, in shape and form. However, this could not be said about their life style nor their over all culture. Instead of the constant hunting and rather limited intellect of Earth Spiders, these Spiders, known to themselves as Umpayak, are incredibly slow, and methodological creatures. This came about from their planets incredibly low gravity, and very open and wide plains, along with the species incredible patience, once used to wait for prey, now used to archive incredibly long and detailed data and logs. Once asocial, over the past millenia, and the conscious effort of their elders, they eventually achieved A space worthy civilization, which focused on the constant, obsessive and some would say overbearing, dedication to the preservation of Knowledge. Many preferring the companionship of the data archives, or the quiet contemplation of weaving incredibly advanced webs, which utilize the nine different wave lengths of light that the Umenpayak to tell vast amounts of knowledge through only a few strands, instead of the presence of a mate or a friend. Indeed, if it not we're for the conscious effort of the High Council of Elders constant urging of its people to interact socially with others, most of these giant spiders would have most likely gone extinct due to their seemingly criminal negligence when it comes to reproducing. This nature of theirs has also made it quite hard for them to interact with other species, due to Umenpayak's constant over analyses of the situation, and their tendency to have their long term thinking be ludicrously long, leading to the other species thinking of the Umenpayak as a bunch of lazy, book wormish, and most of all, rather dull species that would rather sit around and contemplate the paint drying on the wall instead of actually painting the wall. Meanwhile, the Umenpayak see many of the other races as impatient and unable to focus for even a second, and have no appreciation of such a monumental work they have under carried. This was most notable during the question of wether or not they would join the DCS, which took a vast and almost utterly insane of amount of time, as almost every single Umenpayak was asked, and thoroughly explained the situation to, with all forseeable outcomes. Indeed, it was not until AFTER the attack did they finally agree to join
- As a culture, the Umenpayak form themselves around the idea that each Member is a important factor of the entire overall situation, and constantly make sure that all is given a respectable and fair treatment. After all, the Umenpayak would hate to forget a single one of their own kind, even if they would rather be doing something else. To the Umenpayak, time is something easily spent, due to their very advanced and long life spans, capable of easily surpassing two thousand years. Indeed, much of the Umenpayak's thinking is about what is to come next, and not what will come later. To this end, they have incredibly organized schedules, anticipating things such as lateness, where a enemy ship will come next, and how they will attack. This was the entire formation and stratagem of the Riak'Shama Navy, where upon they relied on incredibly well armed and armored yet dreadfully slow cruisers and battleships to ambush and prescience the enemy's movements. Further more into their biology, they wear mostly long, flowing robes and clothing, and rarely need to wash due to their highly sedative life style. They do however, breath oxygen, drink water and are carbon based lifeforms. Also, unlike the eight legged earth spiders, the Umenpayak had twelve in total, eight used for movement, and the other four used in manipulating web and their technology. In combat, they rely on their ability to synthesize poisonous gas at will, along with deadly pincers, and their own tremendous strength, along with long ranged weaponry. For burials, it is common for the deceased to be gathered, and mummified into a burial cocoon, where they will be first biologically studied, then preserved forever in on the great Crypts, which all ships come with. Their is no major religion in the Umenpayak, but they do worship ancestors and knowledge as if they are some how linked. Technologically, the Umenpayak mostly use very advanced and streamlined technology, with a emphasis on data storage and calculations, along with some incredible works of architecture and construction.
- Currently, the UmenPayak are in a incredible state of mourning over the loss of their great planet, which held the Kumo-Khlạng, the largest gathering of knowledge, archives and reports in the entire sector. The few remaining ships that escaped, carried with them the fragmented knowledge of all their ancestors, all the way back to the very dawn of their species. Due to this, they hold a incredible, and nigh-utter hatred of the Enemy, aligning them as savages and disgusting creatures that are only worthy of contempt. Even then, however, they are eager to catalog and study them as much as possible, and due to their low empathetics, most races barely see the Umenpayak capable of hating or being saddened.
