- a hard time = some difficulties
- keep up = understand as quickly as the class is going, without falling behind
- drop a class = withdraw from a class (remove it from your schedule)
- catch up = arrive back at the level of everyone else in the class (after falling behind)
- run into = faced or encountered
- clear it up = find a solution, deal with a problem
- make sure = ensure (“insure” means to protect something by buying insurance)
- make up = finish something that was already supposed to be done, which you missed because of an absence
- can’t afford = don’t have enough time (you won’t be able to do it, because you won’t have enough [something valuable])
- see someone around = see someone in random places in your daily life
- look into = investigate in order to know more about something
- Why not? = it’s a good idea
- come up with = develop, imagine
- What about = What do you think about… / What’s your opinion about… (to make a suggestion)
- grow up = be raised / be brought up / become an adult
- Bingo! = You got it!
- pass away = die (This is one of many euphemisms for death.)
- make-ups = tests and assignments done later because you missed the original time
- stop by = come for a short time to do something specific
- out of sight = excessive
- not a bad idea = a good idea
- drive someone crazy = annoy someone a lot and make them angry
