- Hello today I will tell you something about the Soviet-Afghan conflict.
- The Soviet-Afghan intervention began in December 1979 and ended in February 1989.
- This war began when a small group of 50 soviet special force soldiers called "Spetznas"
- started to find their way into the palace while fighting against 2000 people from the national guard of afghanistan.
- The russians started the operation with the reason to help a neighbour country because the leader of this country
- Amin is not the legitimate ruler of this country.
- Hafizullah Amin the afghan president was located in this palace, he was the main target of the Soviet Union.
- Amin, his son, 200 afghan soldiers and 20 Soviet soldiers died. After this the big battle between the Soviet Uninon and the Mushahed began
- Mujahidees are radical islamic terrorist, the term of Mujahide stands for a person who is performing the way of a jihad,
- the meaning of jihad is striving the way of God. The Red Army tried to circle afghanistan and get controll over the whole
- country step by step. The rescued districts got help from the Soviet Union they got schools, highways, factorys,a new home and Democracy
- and so on. But a lot of afghanistan people were fighting against the Soviets because they were told from other nations
- especially from the Unitated States of America that the Russians will try to convert their religion and destroy their cluture.
- The Afghan Mujahidees received their supplies from the USA, China, Saudi Arabia and other leading Nato countries, they also recieved
- weapon and tactic training from the US officers.
- They also trained the well known Osama Bin Laden who blew up both of the World Trade Centers.
- One of the most important thing in this war was the air force.
- The Soviets got a big advantage with the WWS (ввс) (Soviet Air Force). The US government realised this and they started to give
- Mujahidees Stingers. Stingers are rocket launchers with ground-air ammunition it means that they are effective against planes and helicopters
- It was a huge step backwards for the Red Army. The Soviet troops were friendly to the afghanistan civilians. They often traded with
- cigarettes and other stuff like that.
- But this friendliness killed a lot of Soviets, for example: an afghan kid told Russian soldiers that he knows where some of the
- Mujahidees are hidding. The Soviet soldier believed the kid and followed him, in the end it was a trap and the afghan kid suicided in a
- minefield with a lot of Russian soldiers and other people.
- The Mujahidees were fighting with a lot of dirty tricks for example. One of the most used tactic from the Soviet union was the Green
- Carpet.
- In this tactic Soviet soliders circeled a whole village and gave them 24 hours to get out, the civilians left but the Mujahidees stayed
- there
- after the give time period they started to bomb it. The last battle of the Soviet Union was "the Battle for Hill 3234" . In the fight
- 39 Russian soliders fought against 400 Mujahidees, the battle took 18 hours , but only the Soviets came back alive.
- After the end of this Soviet-Afghan intervention the Us government declared the war to afghanistan. They killed a lot of civilians
- and the drug traffic was doubled! A lot of Afghan people say that the Us-army is inhuman compared to the russians.
