  1. (07:01:07) Cheeseness: Hey beansmyname
  2. (07:01:15) Cheeseness: Hey SirSlade
  3. (07:01:16) beansmyname: Hey Cheeseness. o/
  4. (07:01:22) SirSlade: Hey Cheeseness
  5. (07:01:33) Permafry_42: Hey SirSlade and beansmyname
  6. (07:01:43) Cheeseness: beansmyname: How far through the game did you get? I got a reproduceable crash on the Ubiquity level and couldn't get past that :(
  7. (07:01:43) SirSlade: Hey Permafry_42
  8. (07:01:44) beansmyname: Hello Permafry_42
  9. (07:02:03) psymin: Papo & Yo was on linux before wasn't it?
  10. (07:02:07) beansmyname: I got as far as the young girl explaining that the next part will require the use of her centipede
  11. (07:02:13) Cheeseness: psymin: It was in a Humble Bundle
  12. (07:02:15) beansmyname: It's on Linux via a past bundle
  13. (07:02:17) psymin: ahh
  14. (07:02:18) Permafry_42: Which game Cheese? Papo & Yo?
  15. (07:02:31) Cheeseness: Permafry_42: Yes. That's the topic for today
  16. (07:02:34) flesk [~quassel@A73AA813.B182DE35.257F1711.IP] entered the room.
  17. (07:02:38) Cheeseness: Hey flesk
  18. (07:02:53) Cheeseness: psymin: It's also available via the Humble Store
  19. (07:03:04) Syd: Back with a drink
  20. (07:03:08) Cheeseness: wb, Syd
  21. (07:03:34) Cheeseness: beansmyname: Sounds like you're farther along than I am then. I'm heading towards the temple with Lula and the Monster
  22. (07:03:34) Permafry_42: Weird; never heard of it having linux issues, though i don't pay attention to them in all honesty
  23. (07:04:08) beansmyname: You're almost there, then.
  24. (07:04:13) beansmyname: I've not yet reached the temple.
  25. (07:04:21) Syd: The Costume Quest book I ordered arrived in the mail today. It's pretty great, and bigger than I expected.
  26. (07:04:42) beansmyname: Have you done the football field puzzle, Cheeseness?
  27. (07:04:56) Cheeseness: beansmyname: Yeah, I'm just after that (where you need to carry a frog through a doorway
  28. (07:05:13) Sven_Q45 [Mibbit@hide-F5A41769.dip0.t-ipconnect.de] entered the room.
  29. (07:05:16) Cheeseness: When I throw the frog in the second drainpipe, it crashes. I haven't found a log yet, but I haven't really had time to look
  30. (07:05:17) beansmyname: Ok. I stopped just after that next section.
  31. (07:05:18) Cheeseness: Hey Sven_Q45
  32. (07:05:25) Sven_Q45: Hi.
  33. (07:05:29) Cheeseness: Are we ready to go yet, Permafry_42?
  34. (07:05:43) Permafry_42: Yup I'm all ready now
  35. (07:05:48) Permafry_42: Hi Sven
  36. (07:05:50) Cheeseness: Let's do it.
  37. (07:05:51) liorean: Ah, It's Prince of Persia's 25th birthday
  38. (07:05:55) flesk left the room (quit: Ping timeout: 185 seconds).
  39. (07:06:11) Cheeseness: liorean: I thought that a couple of weeks ago
  40. (07:06:14) beansmyname: I refuse to believe any game I used to play is 25 years old. :)
  41. (07:06:25) Permafry_42: K let me know when its showing
  42. (07:06:36) Syd: It's live
  43. (07:06:38) Cheeseness: I see it
  44. (07:06:41) beansmyname: I see the logo.
  45. (07:06:49) Cheeseness: Of course, I'll get an ad the moment the intro starts >_<
  46. (07:06:54) Permafry_42: k
  47. (07:07:12) Syd: *uses adblock with no shame* :P
  48. (07:07:15) flesk [quassel@hide-1E215ADA.getinternet.no] entered the room.
  49. (07:07:16) Cheeseness: <3
  50. (07:07:23) Cheeseness: I haven't gotten around to installing it again
  51. (07:07:28) liorean: Cheese: It was nerdcubed that tweeted it, so I won't guarantee the accuracy of his statement
  52. (07:07:35) Cheeseness: Ah
  53. (07:08:06) Sven_Q45: I have problems with ads right now. Tho I HAVE a virus scanner. :(
  54. (07:08:28) Permafry_42: Love the menu easter egg
  55. (07:08:36) Cheeseness: There's an easter egg in the menu?
  56. (07:08:45) beansmyname: using livestreamer to play through VLC. I didn't see any ads.
  57. (07:08:49) Cheeseness: heh
  58. (07:08:56) Permafry_42: when you move up or down in the menu, frogs are shown
  59. (07:09:02) Cheeseness: Oh, apparently there's a URL you can use that will get you a HTML5 player
  60. (07:09:05) Permafry_42: there's even an achievement for it
  61. (07:09:11) Cheeseness: Permafry_42: Ah. I wouldn't really call that an easter egg
  62. (07:09:26) beansmyname: I really need to upgrade my hardware. Looks great, Permafry_42.
  63. (07:09:42) Cheeseness: Urgh, are you playing this with a game pad? :D
  64. (07:09:59) Cheeseness: That weird unnatural camera movement
  65. (07:10:20) silverspork [Adium@A302980A:3B832D4F:A60070C:IP] entered the room.
  66. (07:10:24) Cheeseness: Hey silverspork
  67. (07:10:30) Sven_Q45: The football is a little too big. :D
  68. (07:10:32) silverspork: yo
  69. (07:10:33) flesk: Isn't it a platformer?
  70. (07:10:43) Cheeseness: I really like the style of the glowing imaginary elements
  71. (07:10:43) flesk: I was going to play it with a gamepad too.
  72. (07:10:52) beansmyname: Well, it was PS3 exclusive for a long time.
  73. (07:10:57) Cheeseness: I've been playing with a keyboard and mouse
  74. (07:10:59) Sven_Q45: flesk Yes that´s what I thought too.
  75. (07:11:09) Syd: I play some platformers with a gamepad and others with keyboard/mouse. Kinda depends on how twitchy the platforming is.
  76. (07:11:13) Cheeseness: And now it's Metal Gear Solid
  77. (07:11:26) SirSlade left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  78. (07:11:55) Cheeseness: The moment I started playing, Mim asked if it was set in Brazil
  79. (07:12:28) Peder left the room (quit: Client exited).
  80. (07:12:52) liorean: No quite
  81. (07:12:59) liorean: not quite even
  82. (07:13:07) Syd: I got this game a while back but i haven't gotten around to playing it yet
  83. (07:13:09) Sven_Q45: Is this To catch a thief?
  84. (07:13:14) silverspork: oh that was a cool door thing
  85. (07:13:15) Cheeseness: It's Papo & Yo
  86. (07:13:25) flesk: Syd: Good point. There really isn't a huge difference between 3D platformers and FPSes, and I'd probably play an FPS with keyboard and mouse.
  87. (07:13:32) Sven_Q45: @Cheese Yes I know that. ;)
  88. (07:13:49) flesk: Not that I'm into FPSes, but Portal is close game mechanically.
  89. (07:13:52) beansmyname: Note: there are no hats until you finish the game once.
  90. (07:13:55) Cheeseness: Where did that hat come from?
  91. (07:13:56) Cheeseness: Ah, right
  92. (07:14:11) Syd: Some games I can play fine with either control method. I've beaten Psychonauts with keyboard and mouse and had no complaints.
  93. (07:14:18) Syd: Though I may be in the minority from what I've heard
  94. (07:14:22) flesk: Syd: Same here.
  95. (07:14:35) Cheeseness: I've been playing Psychonauts with a keyboard and mouse as well
  96. (07:14:38) flesk: Even beat the punching game with keyboard.
  97. (07:14:50) Winry [Mibbit@F3782BB8.1C6900FF.6AE72308.IP] entered the room.
  98. (07:14:53) Syd: Not sure if I did the punching minigame with kb/m but I heard it's tricky
  99. (07:15:14) Syd: I probably did at some point, because first time I played Psychonauts on PC, I didn't have a gamepad at all.
  100. (07:15:16) flesk: Yeah, it is, but it's easier when your psy-punch is fully upgraded.
  101. (07:15:21) kisak [kisak@hide-1E6BEB7F.hrbgpa.fios.verizon.net] entered the room.
  102. (07:15:23) flesk: *psi
  103. (07:15:27) Cheeseness: Hey kisak
  104. (07:15:34) liorean: I really use a device to control depending on the game's feel. In this game I felt like the camera benefited from using controller. Though to be fair, I didn't try mouse and keyboard when we had gotten a few game mechanics unlocked, just at the very start
  105. (07:15:41) kisak: g'day Cheeseness
  106. (07:16:01) Syd: I can't handle playing twitchy 2D platformers with the keyboard, though.
  107. (07:16:16) Cheeseness: I played SMB with a keyboard :D
  108. (07:16:30) Cheeseness: That ball is a better size
  109. (07:16:38) flesk: If it's just movement and jump I prefer keyboard for 2D platformers.
  110. (07:16:39) Sven_Q45: Yes
  111. (07:16:52) beansmyname: I like the clever ways the ropes and levers deform the environment.
  112. (07:17:03) silverspork: yeah me too
  113. (07:17:03) Cheeseness: Yeah
  114. (07:17:06) silverspork: that's cool
  115. (07:17:25) Cheeseness: It's always done in an evocative way
  116. (07:17:41) liorean: What's happened with that ball?
  117. (07:17:46) Cheeseness: I think it's a hat
  118. (07:18:02) Cheeseness: For finding the second stuffed toy?
  119. (07:18:37) liorean: You got hats for those? I don't recall any hat reward when I found them.
  120. (07:18:43) beansmyname: Permafry_42 is hunting an achievement. :D
  121. (07:19:01) flesk: It still says we're playing Stacking.
  122. (07:19:01) Cheeseness: As beans said, you have to finish the game before you get any hats
  123. (07:19:02) beansmyname: liorean, Hats are available after completing the game once.
  124. (07:19:03) kisak: it's almost like those boxes are heavy
  125. (07:19:04) Syd: Fish!
  126. (07:19:09) flesk: With special guest Lee PEtty.
  127. (07:19:19) Syd: Oh, I'll fix that
  128. (07:19:24) liorean: Ah. I only played through it once
  129. (07:19:26) Sven_Q45: flesk yes
  130. (07:19:28) Cheeseness: H aha, I should probably update the stream title, hey?
  131. (07:20:20) Syd: Title should be correct now
  132. (07:20:30) Cheeseness: Oh, you beat me to it
  133. (07:20:37) Syd: Might take a refresh for the new title to show though
  134. (07:20:39) Cheeseness: It won't update though
  135. (07:20:39) Cheeseness: Yeah
  136. (07:20:45) Cheeseness: Not much value in doing that
  137. (07:21:42) Cheeseness: I wish there had've been some feedback on this stuff when playing through the game first time
  138. (07:22:04) Cheeseness: I went out of my way to find this stuff and was a bit confused
  139. (07:22:26) silverspork: does it not let you throw a box off the clif?
  140. (07:22:33) Cheeseness: Nope, they're limited to the red box
  141. (07:22:36) beansmyname: HA! Didn't even think to stack the boxes.
  142. (07:22:51) Cheeseness: It got really laggy in this room for me
  143. (07:23:15) silverspork: an elevator with no dudes to fight? geez
  144. (07:23:27) Cheeseness: Oh, it's a fishbow
  145. (07:23:28) Cheeseness: l
  146. (07:23:29) Syd: Hah
  147. (07:23:51) Cheeseness: I liek the way that the lines unwind for the ones that have timers on them
  148. (07:24:00) liorean: Wow. For the first time ever I got less lag on my tablet compared to my PC
  149. (07:25:16) Cheeseness: I kinda like that the puzzles aren't particularly tricky
  150. (07:25:39) Cheeseness: I think you missed something, Permafry_42
  151. (07:26:30) liorean: Hmm. You can spend candy to heal out of battle now in CQ2. Couldn't do that in my first playthrough!'
  152. (07:26:36) Cheeseness: liorean: Nah
  153. (07:26:43) Permafry_42: lol duh
  154. (07:26:56) Cheeseness: There we go :D
  155. (07:27:56) beansmyname: They're not tricky but can require a little experimentation before the solution becomes clear
  156. (07:28:15) Cheeseness: Yeah
  157. (07:28:52) Cheeseness: I like that it looks like he's moonwalking there
  158. (07:29:10) Cheeseness: I felt like the boxes were cheating, so I avoided them all when I was playing
  159. (07:29:11) silverspork: it would be cool if just one time some guy pops out of the house and says "hey, stop moving my house!"
  160. (07:29:19) beansmyname: Cheeseness, So did I!
  161. (07:29:26) Cheeseness: heh, opens a window and shakes a fist at you
  162. (07:29:28) beansmyname: lol @ silverspork
  163. (07:30:26) Cheeseness: You have to do somethign else first, Permafry_42
  164. (07:31:10) liorean: Silverspark: I was thinking that while playing - man, the inhabitants of these shacks must be so angry at me
  165. (07:31:35) Cheeseness: He's fast up those ladders
  166. (07:33:40) beansmyname: Quico's now missing a shoe.
  167. (07:33:40) Cheeseness: The tonal shift here was interestingly structured
  168. (07:33:49) Cheeseness: No no, he's got two
  169. (07:34:05) kisak: I count two
  170. (07:34:22) beansmyname: Ok. He's missing a shoe on his left foot.
  171. (07:35:06) Cheeseness: It's interesting the way that his is broken down as the game progresses
  172. (07:36:31) Cheeseness: I like that you can queue up stuff for Lula to do
  173. (07:36:31) Permafry_42: love the music btw
  174. (07:36:43) Cheeseness: The music reminds me of some of Amanita's stuff
  175. (07:36:45) Cheeseness: It's pretty nice
  176. (07:37:38) kisak: cool story bro
  177. (07:37:50) kisak: @ bug house
  178. (07:38:18) Cheeseness: I missed the next cutscene and didn't spot that the grille farther back had disappeared
  179. (07:38:29) Cheeseness: I spend ages running around this tiny area trying to work out what was going on
  180. (07:39:42) kisak: this feels like it's being played with a gamepad
  181. (07:39:50) Cheeseness: It sure looks like it
  182. (07:40:09) Syd: He's definitely playing it with a gamepad, with that camera movement
  183. (07:40:59) Cheeseness: I liek that you can't run here
  184. (07:41:01) Permafry_42: i like using a gamepad for this game
  185. (07:41:14) liorean: Cheese: Yeah, I spent quite a while there too
  186. (07:41:24) beansmyname: I do too. Gamepad feels more natural for me in 3d platformers.
  187. (07:41:32) Syd: I used a gamepad for streaming Brothers, though it's not a platformer.
  188. (07:41:34) Cheeseness: If you like bumping into walls :D
  189. (07:41:55) Cheeseness: I didn't go into the firt at the top here
  190. (07:42:01) Syd: I think I've used keyboard and mouse for everything else I've streamed for the game club though
  191. (07:42:05) Cheeseness: Looks like I didn't miss anything
  192. (07:42:10) beansmyname: I bump into walls with kb/mouse. What's the difference?
  193. (07:42:16) kisak: nice ... #1 instinct is go for the large animal
  194. (07:42:29) liorean: As long as you don't have to aim something, i tend to agree. Portal and similar games are strong exceptions to favouring gamepad for platformers for me
  195. (07:42:39) beansmyname: agreed.
  196. (07:43:53) silverspork: what about these can you throw them over?
  197. (07:44:07) Cheeseness: This bit made me sad
  198. (07:44:27) liorean: Ah, the gigantic sugar cubes
  199. (07:44:41) kisak: nom nom nom
  200. (07:46:10) beansmyname: I want to kick her with Quico's shoeless left foot.
  201. (07:46:31) Cheeseness: It's sad when kids upset each other
  202. (07:46:59) beansmyname: Why? Why does she do it? Not much of a friend.
  203. (07:47:08) Cheeseness: She also pushed him off a building
  204. (07:47:23) silverspork: she should have seen this coming
  205. (07:47:23) Cheeseness: Not sure that his way of dealing with the problem was really all that healthy either
  206. (07:47:54) liorean: There's a few situations where she turns from being just a fun playmate to have a very different tone
  207. (07:48:00) Cheeseness: Yeah
  208. (07:48:14) Cheeseness: Does she represent Quico's inner demons?
  209. (07:50:43) Cheeseness: Soem of Quico's mannerisms make him appear frog-like
  210. (07:50:47) Permafry_42: missed a hat
  211. (07:51:10) Cheeseness: This mural on the wall here is interesting
  212. (07:51:21) Cheeseness: I interpret it as speaking to the generational impact of alcoholism
  213. (07:51:34) beansmyname: I like it a lot. Tried to grab a screenshot but it's difficult to get a good angle on it.
  214. (07:51:38) Cheeseness: Yeah
  215. (07:52:06) beansmyname: I almost took one where Quico was the bottom "puppet." Which would still work, I guess, playing of the interpretation you just gave.
  216. (07:52:07) Cheeseness: Oh, they're coconuts
  217. (07:52:15) RUBICN64 [Android@B2E1E875:7F2B9F20:21EDFCD3:IP] entered the room.
  218. (07:52:16) Cheeseness: Yeah
  219. (07:52:54) Cheeseness: It perhaps suggests that the Monster's problems are ones that were inherited as well
  220. (07:53:16) Cheeseness: I like that he picks you up if you don't drop the fruit
  221. (07:53:35) Cheeseness: Oh, beans, when you played it, did the Monster's head go into an awkward pose sometimes?
  222. (07:53:41) beansmyname: Yes. A lot.
  223. (07:53:53) beansmyname: He was sniffing his right armpit.
  224. (07:53:55) Cheeseness: :D
  225. (07:54:28) Cheeseness: Must be a Linux bug, I guess
  226. (07:54:36) Cheeseness: (or a bug in the Linux version of the game)
  227. (07:54:48) beansmyname: I wonder if there's a version discrepancy between the Win/Mac/Lin versions.
  228. (07:54:49) Winry left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  229. (07:55:03) Cheeseness: Could be. I'm going to reach out to support when i get some free time
  230. (07:58:22) Cheeseness: The rainbow off in the distance is a nice touch
  231. (07:59:11) Syd: I have tacos now. Mmmm, tacos.
  232. (07:59:19) Cheeseness: Can I come over for dinner?
  233. (07:59:43) beansmyname: Speaking of interesting transformations, here's yet another one.
  234. (08:00:07) Cheeseness: Yeah
  235. (08:00:51) Sven_Q45: I like raining in games.
  236. (08:01:45) flesk: Did someone from Minority Media end up joining?
  237. (08:01:50) Permafry_42: sven have you played the psn game rain?
  238. (08:01:56) Cheeseness: flesk: Not today, but I'm hoping for later sessions
  239. (08:02:07) flesk: Ok. That would be cool. :)
  240. (08:02:23) Sven_Q45: What is psn game?
  241. (08:03:06) Permafry_42: ps3 digital store game
  242. (08:03:29) Sven_Q45: I don´t have a playstation. ;)
  243. (08:03:33) Cheeseness: I had no idea what the floating platform was meant to be at this point
  244. (08:03:40) Cheeseness: I spent more time fussing about it than I needed to :D
  245. (08:03:47) beansmyname: Looks like Minority Games other titles are iOS only. :(
  246. (08:03:56) Cheeseness: Yeah
  247. (08:04:21) flesk: It says on their page they're considering Android and PC for their newest game though.
  248. (08:04:40) beansmyname: This part threw me for a bit, too. As I couldn't figure out why the monster was so hung up on that pipe.
  249. (08:04:53) beansmyname: Damn my pride for keeping me from the hint boxes!
  250. (08:04:57) Cheeseness: I saw during the cutscene that a frog had jumped down there
  251. (08:05:40) beansmyname: Thankfully, the design of the levels and artwork make it easy to get back on track.
  252. (08:05:47) Cheeseness: Yeah
  253. (08:05:56) Cheeseness: They feel a lot more freeform than they are
  254. (08:06:14) Cheeseness: Or look^
  255. (08:06:50) beansmyname: There's a lot of open space which invites exploration, but there's a very linear path through the story.
  256. (08:06:57) Cheeseness: Right
  257. (08:10:02) Cheeseness: The voice acting here is a bit disquieting
  258. (08:11:32) flesk: It's kind of similar to The Last Tinker in that.
  259. (08:11:40) Cheeseness: You've lost your shirt now right?
  260. (08:11:45) Permafry_42: don' do drugs boys and girls
  261. (08:12:19) beansmyname: Yeah. And the other she.
  262. (08:12:31) beansmyname: other shoe.
  263. (08:13:08) liorean: Here I for a while wasn't sure to do. Spent a while jumping onto the platform she's sitting on, but avoided the monster (since she told me to)
  264. (08:13:33) beansmyname: I did the same thing. Then I thought it was time for a belly jump.
  265. (08:13:57) Cheeseness: She hadn't really been nice or helpful so far, so I was happy to ignore her instructions
  266. (08:14:05) Permafry_42: after this cutscene, I'll end it for today
  267. (08:15:00) Cheeseness: Papo means father, IIRC
  268. (08:15:04) Cheeseness: She refers to the Monster as that
  269. (08:15:41) Sven_Q45: Yes Papa.
  270. (08:16:20) beansmyname: Thank you, Permafry_42, for streaming.
  271. (08:16:22) Syd: Thanks for streaming Perma
  272. (08:16:22) Cheeseness: She says "Papo" though
  273. (08:16:27) Cheeseness: Thanks for streaming, Permafry_42
  274. (08:16:37) silverspork: good stream thx
  275. (08:16:40) Cheeseness: Here's the thread if anybody wants to share their thoughts http://www.doublefine.com/forums/viewthread/15040/
  276. (08:16:46) Permafry_42: Thanks for watching everyone!
  277. (08:17:21) silverspork: see ya
  278. (08:17:22) Sven_Q45: Well Papo is Portugoese.
  279. (08:17:27) Cheeseness: Yeah
  280. (08:17:27) Sven_Q45: I think,
  281. (08:17:30) Cheeseness: I think it is
  282. (08:17:37) silverspork left the room.
  283. (08:17:57) RUBICN64 left the room (quit: Quit: AndroidIrc Disconnecting).
  284. (08:18:13) Cheeseness: I'll wrap up the chat log there. Thanks for coming everyone!
