  1. Friend: "I honestly don't understand why people are so up in arms about always online console / pc games. 88% of the US has an internet connection. 46% of the ENTIRE WORLD'S POPULATION has an internet connection. We brought this upon ourselves by refusing to support creators and pirating the projects that we enjoy. we made this bed, now lets not be bitches about lying in it."
  2.
  3. Some other guy: "Capped connections, inconvenience for those who play truly off line. End results are usually the same:
  4. You are penalizing the end user not the actual pirates themselves.
  5.
  6. We both know full versions of every game released over the past 10 years has a full cd keygen or crack floating around. Not sure how those being out there should affect those people who rightfully purchased stuff. DRM issue.
  7.
  8. What really gets me mad is the intellectual property rights that are "lost" when games go offline for good. Example Star Wars Galaxies. There is a full rebuild long in the works to get it together a new game exactly like the old one and then eventually mod it www.swgemu.com . Disney now inadvertently owns the rights to the now closed game due to the recent purchase of said franchise. All data server side was lost when live ended through reverse engineering they are getting closer to finishing what live looked like, however I SHOULD STILL have a right to this game as I own it legally. Since it is unsupported it is a grey area to continue development however since we are not REUSING OG source code, it is technically a new game using the "star wars moniker/world".

  10. Ubisoft is out of the game with DRM on one side.

  14. ON THE FLIP.
  15. Their annecy office just released a game called STEEP (ski/snowboard/wingsuit/paragliders) which is exclusively ONLINE only for a snowboard game. The community is a lil tweaked..."
  16.
  17. Friend again: "If you're concerned about a 3 kb authentication script running back and forth from you game, you might have bigger issues to deal with outside of an always online game.
  18.
  19. And second, by saying "people are going to pirate anyway" you're basically outlining how we got to this point to start with. If gamers didn't want developers going to extra measures to protect their property maybe we SHOULD STOP STEALING IT.
  20.
  21. But then again, nobody complains when you walk into a store and have to ask an employee to unlock a big glass door before purchasing a game. I wonder why that door is there? Because people kept stealing the FUCKIN games.
  22.
  23. If you don't like always on DRM, stop pirating your god damn games and start supporting the creators that spend their lives creating your content."
