  1. “No no…no!”
  2.
  3. I threw my arms up in defeat, turning around suddenly.
  4.
  5. “Do you have any idea….any idea at all,” I began, trying to control my anger. “…how to even walk properly?”
  6.
  7. The manticore behind me shot me an equally disgruntled look. In any other circumstance, an angry manticore would have been any man’s worst nightmare.
  8.
  9. “What am I supposed to be doing then?” she groaned. “You don’t want me walking in front of you. And you don’t want me walking behind you.”
  10.
  11. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. But this was my nightmare now; a bumbling pet that couldn’t follow the simplest orders. It was like training a newborn puppy; just even more infuriating.
  12.
  13. “You can walk in front of me. You can even walk behind me, or even beside me for all I care. The one problem that I do take a certain issue with, is that you cannot…under any circumstance…pull on the leash!” I yelled, shaking the leash in her face.
  14.
  15. She flinched back, turning her head away but still keeping those red eyes on me.
  16.
  17. It had been a week since I received the manticore into my home. And in that week, I have done my best to try and tame this wonderful, if not irksome beast. She was quick to learn that the faster she submitted to my orders, the less pain there would be. But even under the guise of obedience, those red eyes still held so much defiance in them.
  18.
  19. Today’s lesson was to break her into the leash. It seemed that she was familiar with the concept, but she was adamant to put up resistance at every step.
  20.
  21. “Well, what am I supposed to do!?” she shot back an annoyed voice.
  22.
  23. I glared at her.
  24.
  25. “What am I supposed to do…?” I said, repeating her question.
  26.
  27. Her shoulders seemed to sag a bit as I reminded her of her place.
  28.
  29. “What am I supposed to do…Master.”
  30.
  31. I smiled condescendingly, pleased with her reaction. I booped her on the nose with an outstretched finger. She flinched at my touch and recoiled away.
  32.
  33. “Better.”
  34.
  35. Waving my finger back and forth, I chided her like a child. A naked, collared, monster girl of a child.
  36.
  37. “Now, what I want you to do is display…is a sense of elegance! Refinement! You are a manticore after all. A noble creature that’s written in legend and rhyme, and as such, you should carry yourself as one.” I elaborated.
  38.
  39. “I can’t have you pulling on my leash or lolling. It shows disrespect. And disrespect is the last thing you wish to display to me.”
  40.
  41. “Where I walk, you walk. Where I go, you go.” I explained. “Now, let’s start over from the beginning.”
  42.
  43. I pushed back my sleeves and stood tall, maintaining a proper posture as I cleared my throat.
  44.
  45. “Up!” I commanded.
  46.
  47. Disdainfully, the manticore sighed and stood up straight, her arms at her side as she stood at attention.
  48.
  49. Her physique has improved greatly since she arrived at the mansion. Her skin was now creamy smooth without blemish, her tits perky and full, and her hair neatly trimmed and fixed every morning. Of course, that much was to be expected when under the care of a Noble like myself. All I had to make sure now was that she didn’t grow fat off of all the steaks she now feasted on daily. Even so, I had plenty of ideas to keep her fit.
  50.
  51. “Down.” I commanded again.
  52.
  53. Wordlessly, she dropped to all fours, mimicking the posture of a dog. I stepped over to her gently pushed down on the small of her back, making sure that she her spine was arched. Having a flat back in that kind of position was just unflattering. Her wings were in good order as well, though her tail still bore some signs from her earlier enslavement, most likely due to the small cage she was cramped into.
  54.
  55. “Now sit.”
  56.
  57. She reared back, crouching on her hind legs with her forearms propped in front of her for support. I couldn’t help but smirk at such a comical sight.
  58.
  59. “Now speak.”
  60.
  61. “Gaoo~” she replied unenthusiastically.
  62.
  63. I smiled and clapped at the performance.
  64.
  65. “Good! Good.”
  66.
  67. I bent over and held out my hand, issuing a new untested command.
  68.
  69. “Paw.”
  70.
  71. The manticore hesitated, her ears flaring back as she stared at me, unsure of what to do.
  72.
  73. I repeated myself again, emphasizing towards her paw.
  74.
  75. “Paw…”
  76.
  77. Hesitantly, she raised her pink fur colored paw and held it out to me. I clasped it in my own hand, and instantly, her muscles tightened and she threatened to pull away from me. But I held on and gently shook her paw in my hand; the feeling of the soft leathery pad oddly satisfying.
  78.
  79. Letting go, I smiled pleasingly at her.
  80.
  81. “See? Now was that so hard?”
  82.
  83. I tried to pat her on the head, but she still recoiled away, ducking downwards. I ignored it this time. Later, she’d learn to appreciate my touch.
  84.
  85. “Do you understand now?”
  86.
  87. Instead of nodding her head or giving any sense of acknowledgement, she just continued to stare at me, a blank look on her face.
  88.
  89. I rolled my eyes and sighed.
  90.
  91. “Is there something you don’t understand?” I said flatly.
  92.
  93. Her face scrunched up as if she was trying to recall a thought.
  94.
  95. “…I don’t know what that means.” She finally said.
  96.
  97. I raised an eyebrow at her.
  98.
  99. “What what means?”
  100.
  101. Her brow furrowed, “That…’e’…word”
  102.
  103. “E word?” I questioned her. “What E word? What do you…”
  104.
  105. It suddenly clicked in my mind as I remembered what I had said earlier.
  106.
  107. “Elegance? You don’t know what elegance means? You can’t be seri-…”
  108.
  109. I took a sharp deep breath and balled my hand into a fist. After a full week of trying to train this manticore, a wave of pent up stress and fuming anger finally cumulated together and crashed into me.
  110.
  111. I turned away and walked towards the large paned window in the hallway, and placed my forehead against the cool glass. Speaking to her in a monotone voice, I placed my hands behind my back.
  112.
  113. “You know what…why don’t you go play outside today.”
  114.
  115. There was a distinct moment of silence between the two of us before she responded.
  116.
  117. “…really?” she asked unassuredly.
  118.
  119. “Yes. Go outside. Go play. Go chase butterflies or dig a hole or something. Just…get out of my sight. And leave the leash.”
  120.
  121. Soon enough, the distinctive footsteps of paw pad and claw on the floor echoed on down the hall. I had no worries about her making an escape attempt. It was midday and the weather bright and clear, and even then, she had made no other attempts to escape.
  122.
  123. Soon enough, the nude monster girl appeared within my field of view, on the back gardens of the estate. It was a truly a sight to behold; a nude manticore strolling through the gardens. She plopped herself down on the ground and upon looking around her, proceeded to focus her attention on pulling up the grass in front of her.
  124.
  125. I soon felt a new presence to my side, joining me at the odd sight.
  126.
  127. I knew instantly who it was.
  128.
  129. “Look at her, Bernard. It’s only been a week, and already I’m at my wits end.”
  130.
  131. My faithful bodyguard and aide stood motionless beside me.
  132.
  133. “You havn’t used the whip on her,” he suggested. “Any animal can be broken into an obedient pet with enough fear and pain.”
  134.
  135. I waved him off.
  136.
  137. “I don’t want another broken, slobering pet. She is not a dog, nor a horse. She is a manticore. I wish to preserve her as such.”
  138.
  139. I pushed my head off the glass and began to rum my temples in a counter clockwise motion.
  140.
  141. “I’m going to go mad from this Bernard, I tell you. She doesn’t even know how to use silverware. She eats her food by tearing it apart with her teeth. And then theres still the dancing lessons, the singing…not to mention she doesn’t even know the most basic forms of common etiquette.”
  142.
  143. I let out a long sigh.
  144.
  145. “How ever am I doing to do it all.” I mused thoughtfully.
  146.
  147. Bernard turned towards me.
  148.
  149. “Why even teach her all that? Why go through all the trouble?”
  150.
  151. I looked over to Bernard, half surprised at such a question.
  152.
  153. “Because in one year’s time, the largest ball the Kingdom has ever seen will be hosted in the capital.”
  154.
  155. Bernard’s head tilted to the side, thinking as to what that meant.
  156.
  157. “…the King’s birthday.”
  158.
  159. “Exactly.” I said, affirming his answer.
  160.
  161. “Everyone will be there. Everyone from the highest born families, to the lowest of the low. It will also mean that it will be the biggest peacock show you or I will ever see. Women wearing
  162. diamonds the size of grapefruits around their necks, Dukes with fur cloaks from animals long since been extinct, and with so medals and awards adorned to every commander’s breast, that’d people would mistake them for hunchbacks.”
  163.
  164. I returned my gaze towards the manticore outside my window, who was now poking her head inside of a bush, giving the both of use an…eyeful; Whether it was on purpose or not, I couldn’t not tell.
  165.
  166. “And I intend to win that peacock show…with that manticore there.”
  167.
  168. Perhaps I should have said that when that particular manticore wasn’t currently waving her ass in our general direction.
  169.
  170. Bernard however said nothing before turning back towards the window. “I don’t think I will ever understand you Nobles, sir.”
  171.
  172. I smiled in turn.
  173.
  174. “I’d be surprised if you did, Bernard.”
  175.
  176. My demeanor soured once more as I suddenly remembered what tomorrow’s schedule entailed.
  177.
  178. “Gods’ alive…how am I ever going to keep her still enough to sit through the painting….” I said, letting out a long distressed sigh.
  179.
  180. “This day couldn’t get any worse.”
  181.
  182. Beside me, Bernard shifted his weight, as suddenly uncomfortable.
  183.
  184. “I’d imagine it can be a lot worse.”
  185.
  186. I chuckled. “And how, pray tell, could this be worse?” I replied humoring him.
  187.
  188. “The Chosen Heroes are coming here.”
  189.
  190. I whipped my head towards Bernard, who stared out the window without betraying any emotion.
  191.
  192. “What?” I said, gaping in disbelief.
  193.
  194. “They’ve already passed the Dulga River.” He continued, “They’ll be here in a few hours time.”
  195.
  196. By the way Bernard stood there, like a statue, I could tell that he wasn’t joking. Even then, Bernard was never a man to make jokes.
  197.
  198. I stepped back, at a loss of words.
  199.
  200. “W-what?!”
  201.
  202.
  203.
  204.
  205. Outside, Myralette was curiously investigating a smell that emanated from the rectangular shaped bushes. She had found that it came from a hole, near the roots of the plant. It was a tantalizing smell. It might have been mole or maybe gopher. She always did enjoy the meat of the small tender rodent, even if it was only a morsel. But now she enjoyed succulent meat every single day. Mouthwatering, juicy meat; even if she did have to endure being a ‘pet’.
  206.
  207. ‘It doesn’t matter.’ She thought to herself, as her claws began to dig away at the hole.
  208.
  209. Meat was still meat after all.
  210.
  211. Besides, she wasn’t going to be a ‘pet’ for much longer anyway.
  212.
  213. “WHAT?!”
  214.
  215. Myralette’s ears perked up as she heard ‘that man’s’ voice emanate from inside building.
  216.
  217. ‘What could he want now?’ she wondered to herself as she turned her attention back at her next meal.
