Chapter 33 'The beginning of the journey'


　魔大陸。
The Magic Continent.

　この言葉を聞くと、ド○クエ世代の俺としては、魔界という単語を思い浮かべる。
　魔王が統治し、
　魔物たちの小さな村があり、
　人々の忘れられた祠があり、
　強力な魔物がそこらを闊歩する。
　それが魔界だ。

I'm of the ○ragon Quest generation, and so when I hear this world I think of the demon realm.
[魔(demon/magic) 大陸(continent)]

A demon king governs it, and monsters live in little villages. There are shrines forgotten by the populace, and strong monsters swagger around the place.
That's what the demon realm is like.

　しかし、この世界では違う。
However, this world is different.

　まず、魔王が統治していない。
First of all, it's not governed by a demon king.

　魔王がいないわけではない。
　現在、魔王はアバウトに３０名ぐらいいる。
　そして、それぞれがそれぞれで適当に君臨している。
That's not to say that there's no demon king. Currently, there are roughly 30 demon kings, and they all have their own realms that they reign over.

　しかし、統治はしていない。
　あくまで魔王と名乗り、偉そうにしているだけだ。
　魔王はそれぞれ親衛隊だか騎士団だか、
　かっこいい名前のついた軍事力を持っている。
　リカリスの町を守っていた衛兵もそれに当たる。
However, they don't govern. In the end, they're just a demon king in name, and do nothing but act importantly. Demon kings each have their own military force with cool names like the imperial guards or some knight order. The guards that protect Rikarisu fall under this as well.

　彼らは冒険者とは別に、周囲の魔物を退治したり、
　町中にいる犯罪者を逮捕したりと、
　独自に自分たちの住む町を守っている。
　軍隊というよりは、自警団という意味合いが強い。
Different to adventurers, they eliminate monsters in the town's surroundings, apprehend criminals in town, and protect the town they live in themselves. Rather than an army, they're more like a vigilante corps.

　そのへんの魔王と自警団の関係についてはよくわからない。
　魔王が任命しているのか、
　それとも自警団が勝手に魔王の配下を名乗っているのか。
I don't really understand the relationship between them and the demon king. Perhaps the demon king appoints them, or perhaps they just arbitrarily call themselves the demon king's subordinates.

　魔王が戦争をすると決めれば、
　彼らがそのまま魔王軍となるわけだから、
　何らかの契約はなされているのだろう。
When a demon king goes to war though, the group acts as their army, so there must be some sort of agreement between them.

　現在は互いに戦争するということもなく、平和である。
　が、あくまで平和なのは魔王の周辺だけであり、
　魔大陸の大半が無法地帯となっている。
Currently the demon kings aren't at war with each other, and are in peace. Though, in the end this peace is only in the areas surrounding each demon king. The majority of the magic continent is a lawless zone.

　サザ○クロスと聖○十字陵の周辺は平和でも、
　その間の道のりでは無所属のモヒカンが跋扈しているというわけだ。
In other words, the areas around the Souther○ Cross and Holy Empe○or's Cross Mausoleum are at peace, but the roads between them are rampant with self-ruled mohawks...

[Mohawks are from hokuto no ken, as are the locations. They're ruled by Shin and Sauza respectively. Both are members of the Nanto Six.]

　ちなみに、リカリスの町周辺は、『バーディガーディ』という魔王が君臨している。
　六本腕で黒い肌、筋肉ムキムキマッチョマンの大魔王らしい。
　もっとも、現在は放浪の旅に出ていて、行方不明らしい。
　実にフリーダムだ。
By the way, the area around Rikarisu town is reigned over by a demon king named 『Burdy Gurdy』. He seems to be a black skinned, six armed, muscley machoman of a demon king. Moreover, he's currently travelling and his whereabout are unknown.

There's a lot of freedom.

　魔大陸には強力な魔物が出没する。
　冒険者ギルドにおいて、最もランクの低い討伐依頼はCランクである。
　つまり、逆に言えば、
　この大陸には、Cランク以上の敵しかいない。
　ストーントゥレントで、ギリギリDランクか。

　とはいえ、魔族は種族的に人族よりも強い。
　その上、種族ごとの特性もあるため、集団戦も非常にうまい。
　Bランクに上がるのに壁はあるが、
　それがゆえに、魔大陸のBランク冒険者は他の大陸の冒険者より質が上だ。
　上がれないヤツはノコパラやジャリルみたいになる。

　そう考えると、ルイジェルドは異常だ。
　彼はAランクの魔物なら、一人で倒せると豪語する。
　質の高いBランク冒険者６～７人より強いのだから。

　『デッドエンド』の二つ名は伊達じゃない。

　そんな人物の信頼を得られた事を、純粋に嬉しく思う。

Strong monsters frequently appear on the Magic Continent. Regarding the adventurer's guild, the lowest ranked suppression requests are C ranked. In other words, put the other way around, on the Magic Continent enemies lower than C rank don't exist. The Stone Turrent is just barely a D rank.

Though I say this, the Magic Race are stronger than the Human Race as a group. Moreover, because the tribes all have their own special characteristics, they're extremely good at group battles. [I assume because of diversity]
There's a wall between C and B ranks, but that just shows that the B ranked adventurers on the Magic Continent are stronger than those on other continents. Those who can't reach B rank end up like Nokopera and Jaril.

Once I consider this, Ruijeld really is abnormal. Even if its an A ranked monster, he says he can beat it by himself. Since he's stronger than 6 or 7 high quality B ranked adventurers.

The name 『Dead End』 isn't just for show.

To have the confidence of such a person, I'm genuinely happy.

　リカリスの町を出立して三日が経過した。
It's been three days since we've left Rikarisu town.

　ルイジェルドと信頼関係を結べて安心したせいか、
　最近、俺の食欲が旺盛になり始めた。
I might be because of my relief upon entering into a relationship of trust with Ruijeld but, lately, my appetite has grown.

　といっても、食材はよろしくない。
　俺たちの主食は大王陸亀の肉だ。
　美味しくない。不味い。
Even if I say this, the food is not good. Our diet mainly comprises great tortoise meat. It's bad tasting. Disgusting.

　なので、俺はちょいと工夫することにした。
And so I ended up devising a plan.

　焼くのではダメ。
　ならば調理法を変えるのだ。
Grilling it is no good. If that's the case, I'll just change the cooking method.

　魔術で作り出した土鍋、
　魔術で作り出したグレイラット家の美味しい水、
　魔術で作り出した火力の強いコンロ（人力）。
　この三つを使い、煮ることにした。
An earthenware pot made with magic.
Greyrat family water made with magic.
A strong portable gas burner made with magic (human powered).
Using these three things, I can stew it instead.

　水は貴重だが、俺ならば無限に作り出せる。
　本当は圧力鍋で柔らかく調理したいと思ったが、
　試してみた所、爆発しそうになったので、やめた。
Though water is precious, if it's me then I can produce it indefinitely. I actually wanted to try pressure cooking it to make it softer, but upon trying and noticing it about to explode, I gave up.

　時間はかかるが、ガス代も水道代も無料だ。
　じっくりコトコト愛情を込めて煮込めばいいのだ。
It takes quite a while to cook, but both gas and water are free. I carefully cook it with love.

　土魔術を使った調理器具は、使い捨て出来るため、便利だ。
　そのうち、燻製も試してみよう。
　ストーントゥレントのチップ……。
　あんまり美味しくはならなさそうだ。
Since I can discard the magically produced earthernware pots, they're convenient. Eventually I want to try smoking it too. Stone turrent as smoking chips... it doesn't seem like it'll turn out very good tasting.

　ともあれ、これで大王陸亀の肉は、マシになった。
　硬くて不味い肉が、
　柔らかくて不味い肉に変化した。
At any rate, the great tortoise meat has become better now.
The tough and disgusting meat has become...
soft and disgusting meat.

　うん、不味い。
　煮た所で、やはり特有の臭みは残っているし、まずいものはまずい。
Yep, disgusting.
After stewing it, as expected a peculiar stench remained. Disgusting things are disgusting, after all.

　おかしな話だ。
　ミグルドの里で食べた時はもっとおいしかった。
　何が足りないのだろうか。
　と、そこで俺は思い出した。
　ミグルドの里で栽培されていた植物のことをだ。
That's strange.
When we ate it at the Migurd village, it was more tasty.
Is it missing something?
And I remember.
They were growing some sort of plant at the Migurd village.

　最初に見た時は、枯れかけの作物だ、と思った。
　だが、違う。
　あれは恐らく、香草の一種だ。
　肉の臭みを取り、より美味しくするための彼らの知恵なのだ。
When I first saw it I thought it was wilted. But that's wrong. That was probably a type of herb. Used to remove the stench and make it tasty. One of their wisdoms.

　ロキシーの「苦くて美味しくない」という言葉にすっかり騙されてしまった。
　あれは野菜だが、そのまま食べるものではないのだ。
　まったく、うちの師匠はドジっ娘で困る。
I was completely fooled by Roxy's 'bitter and untasty'. It's a vegetable but you don't eat it just like that. Geez, how troubling. My shishou is such a dojikko.

　次の町に赴いたのなら、そうした香辛料を買い込もう。
　他にも、使えそうな食材があったら色々試してみたい。
When we reach the next town, I want to stock up on herbs, as well as some other ingredients that I might be able to use, so that I can try some stuff with them.

「けど……無駄遣いになるかな？」
"But... would that be a waste of money?"

　魔大陸では、基本的に食料が高額だ。
　植物がほとんど育たない地域であるせいか、特に野菜類が高い。
　細い高麗人蔘みたいなのが、肉５ｋｇと物々交換されたりする。
On the Magic Continent, essentially ingredients are expensive. It's really difficult to grow plants here, and so plants are particularly expensive. The [something]-looking grass is worth the same as 5kg of meat.
[thin, tall, beautiful woman grass looking plant...? i must be misunderstanding some part of this.]

　大王陸亀は安い。
　主食であるといえよう。
　５ｔトラック以上の大きさを持つあの亀は、一匹狩るだけでかなりの世帯が何日も食っていける。
　かといって、それで街中の全世帯がまかなえるはずもない。
　時にはパクスコヨーテを食ったり、トゥレントに寄生する虫の幼虫を食ったりする。
　さすがに、虫ともなるとエリスも遠慮気味だった。
　俺だってゴメンだ。
Great tortoise meat is cheap. Enough to be a staple food. Larger than a 5t truck, one of them is enough to feed an entire family for days. Though in saying that, it's not like that's all they eat either. At times they eat pax coyotes or the parasitic bugs that live on turrents. As expected even Eris has her reservations about eating bugs. I'll pass as well.

　この大陸の食文化は、俺にはあわない。
　大王陸亀の肉は、調理次第ではまだ食える。
　低い食文化の水準の中では、まぁ、美味しい部類だ。
　焼くだけで美味いというルイジェルドの言葉にも、ギリギリ頷ける。
This great tortoise culinary culture doesn't suit me. If you prepare great tortoise, it's still edible. If you compare it to other low class food, well, it's still classed as good tasting. I can still barely assent to Ruijeld's assertion that it's tasty just by grilling it.

　だが、やはり香辛料は必要だ。
　二人はあまり必要としていないようだが、俺には必要だ。

But as expected, spices are needed. Those two seem like they don't really need spices, but I do.

　つまり俺の独断で買う事になる。

　だが、独断はよくない。
　俺たちは、チームだからな。
In other words, it'll become a case of me arbitrarily spending money.

　香辛料のことはさておき、
　何事も相談する習慣をつけた方がいいだろう。

Leaving the issue about spices aside, it might be better for me to create a precedent for discussing things with each other.

「全員集合！」

　さぁ寝るぞと、枕代わりになる布の塊をどこに置くか迷っていたエリス。
　目をつぶり、周囲の索敵をしていたルイジェルド。
　彼らを呼び寄せる。

"All members, gather!"

Eris who after declaring that it was time to sleep, became troubled because she couldn't decide on where to place the bundle of cloth she was using as a pillow.
Ruijeld who had his eyes closed, searching for monsters in the vicinity.

「いまから会議をしたいと思います」
「……会議？」

　エリスは首をかしげた。

"I was thinking of having our meeting now."

"...Meeting?"

Eris had tilted her head.

「はい、これから旅をするにあたって、色々問題が起きると思います。
　その時になって、三人が意見を違えて喧嘩しないように、
　大まかな事柄を先に話しあって決めておくんです」
「それって……」

　エリスは訝しげな表情を作った。
　やはり、彼女はそうした細かい事に参加するのは嫌だろうか。
　いっそのこと、ルイジェルドと二人で話し合ってもいいのだが、
　仲間ハズレはよくない。
　彼女は荷物ではない。
　ならば、やはりこうした相談事には参加させなければ。

"Right. I think from now on during our journey, a lot of problems will appear. At that time so that we won't quarrel even if our opinions differ, I want us to meet and roughly decide on things through discussion beforehand."

"In other words..."

Eris had made a doubtful expression. As expected, she hates participating in trifling matters. I thought that it might be better to discuss with just Ruijeld and I, but leaving your friends out is no good. Eris isn't luggage. In that case, it's best to have her participate in the discussion like this.

「それって、あれよね。
　いつもルーデウス達が月に１回やってたやつよね？」

　ん？
　月１回？
　ああ、職員会議のことか。
　そういえば、そんなのもやってたな。

"In other words, it's that, right? The thing that you and the teachers have once a month, right Rudeus?"

Mn?

Once a month?

Ah, the staff meeting?

Now that you mention it, I did do something like that, huh?

「そうです。それの冒険者バージョンです」

　エリスは口元をキュっと閉じると、すとんと俺の前に座った。
　真面目な顔をしようとしているが、
　口元にニマニマ笑いが張り付いている。

　なんだろう。
　さして面白いものでも無いんだが……。
　まぁ、嫌がられるよりいいか。

"That's correct. It's the adventurer's version of that."

Eris firmly shuts her mouth and sits with a thump in front of me. Looking at me with serious eyes, and smiling like something good has happened.

What's with that? It's nothing that interesting... Well, it's better than her hating it at least.

「それは、俺も参加するのか？」

　ルイジェルドの疑問。
　むしろ、お前が参加しないでどうするとツッコミたい。

"Am I to participate in this as well?" Ruijeld asks.

'On the contrary, what's the point if you don't!?' I want to retort.

「もちろんです。
　こういう話し合いは、戦士団の頃にはしなかったんですか？」
「していない。俺が全て一人で決めていた」

　普通はそういうものらしい。
　リーダーのいうことを聞きなさい、ってヤツだ。
　でも、俺は民主主義の国の出身だ。

"Of course. Did you not do this kind of thing in your knight order?"

"We didn't. I decided everything by myself."

It seems like that's normal. Not questioning what the leader says, that is. However, I come from a democratic country.

「今日からは、三人で話し合い、三人で決めていきましょう」
「了解した」

　ルイジェルドは素直にうなずき、座った。
　焚き火の脇で、俺たち三人は車座になった。
　よし。

"From today onwards, let's meet together, discuss things, and decide on things together."

"Understood."

Ruijeld had obediently sat down. The three of us are seated in a circle near the campfire.

Alright.

「では、第一回『デッドエンド作戦会議』を始めます。拍手」

　パチパチパチと、三人でそれぞれ拍手をする。

"Well then, 『Dead End Strategy Meeting』 has officially begun." [he says 'applaud' at the end, but noone does that in English.]

Clap clap clap. The three of us applaud.

「ルーデウス、なんで拍手するの？」
「そういうものです」
「ギレーヌたちとの時はやってなかったじゃない」

　なんで知ってるんだ？
　まあ、いいけどさ。

"Rudeus. Why are we applauding?"

"It's just that kind of thing."

"But you didn't applaud that time with Girenu, right?"

Why does she know that?

Well, whatever.

「記念すべき１回目だから拍手するんです」

　職員会議ではしなかったけど。
　今は冒険者だ、盛り上げていかないとな。

"It's to commemorate our first meeting, you see."

This isn't a staff meeting you know. We're adventures, so it won't do if we don't get pumped up.

「こほん。
　さて、前回、僕は盛大な失敗をしました」
「いや、お前のは失敗ではなく」
「シャラップ！　ルイジェルドさん、発言をする時は、
　話が終わった後、挙手でお願いします」

　ヒステリックな三角メガネっぽく、そう言った。

"Ahem. Now then, last time I had failed magnificently."

"No, you didn't fail."

"SHUT UP! Ruijeld-san, when you have something to say, please wait until wait until the other person has finished speaking and raise your hand." [He says 'shut up' in Engrish (SHARAPPU!)]

「わかった」
「よろしい」

　ルイジェルドが気圧されたように黙ったのを見て、俺は続ける。

"I got it."

"Very well."

Seeing that Ruijeld has become silent after being overpowered, I continue.

「失敗の原因は、いくつか思い当たります」

　情報収集を怠った事、金儲けばかりを考えた事、
　一石二鳥を狙いすぎたこと、
　エトセトラ。
　ま、ソレらはそれぞれ気をつけるとして。

"A few reasons for the failure come to mind."

I was negligent in gathering information, I was filled with thoughts of making money, and I tried to do too much with too few actions [tried too hard to kill too birds with one stone] etc.

Well, I'm paying attention to each of those.

「予防策として、これからは報告・連絡・相談を密にしていこうと思います。
　この３つは『ほうれんそう』といって、実に重要なものです」
「ほうれんそう……か」

　ほうれんそう。
　とても重要だ。
　これを一缶飲むだけで、屈強な大男を星の彼方までぶっとばせる。

"As a precaution, I think from now on we should report (houkoku) to each other, contact (renraku) each other, and discuss (soudan) things with each other. Together it's called 『hourensou』 and is very important."

"Hourensou... huh?"

Hourensou.

It's very important.

[shit reference about Popeye since 'hourensou' sounds like spinach (ほうれん草)]
[actually my lecturer last year brought up this same popeye idea when she taught us about 'hourensou']
[it was apparently first coined as an in-company campaign thing, since it was easy to remember because it sounded like spinach. then it was popularised in a book title or something, and is now one of those common sense mnemonics, kind of how we have DR. ABC for first aid, or like the three D's of this and that. yeah.]

「はい。ほうれんそうです。
　何かをする時は、まず相談！」
「ふむ。具体的にはどうすればいい？」
「やりたい事や困った事があったら、その都度聞いてください」

　実際、社会で相談というのがどういうことをするのかは知らないが……。
　まあ、難しいことは置いておこう。
　俺たちにやれることをやればいいのだ。

"That's right. Hourensou. Before you do anything, first discuss it!"

"Hmm. Specifically what should we do?"

"When there's something you want to do, or when something is troubling you, please talk to us about it each time."

Though I don't know how they actually discuss things in a real company...

Well, let's just leave the fussy stuff aside.

We should just do what we can.

「僕も二人に聞きます。
　聞かれた方は、考えて下さい。やるべきか、やらざるべきか、
　そうすれば、案外相手の気づいていない名案が出てくるかもしれません」

　思えば、俺はルイジェルドに相談せずに決めることが多かった。
　俺は口では彼を信用していると言っていたが、
　心の底では彼を信用していなかったのかもしれない。

"I'll be asking you two about anything that troubles me as well. Those who are asked, please think about it please. Should they do it? Should they not? If you do so, they might unexpectedly come up with a good idea."

Thinking about it, there were a lot of things that I decided without discusssing with Ruijeld first. Though I had said that I was relying on him, it might be that deep down I didn't have faith in him.

「そして、連絡。
　何か気づいたり、何かわかったら、すぐに口に出し、
　周囲のもう一人に伝えてください」

　エリスがうんうんと難しそうに頷いている。
　わかっているんだろうか。

"Next is getting in contact. If you suddenly realise something, or if you suddenly understand something, immediately put it into words and let the people around you know."

Eris is going 'mmn, mmn' with a difficult expression, and nodding along. [mmn = yeah/yep]

Does she really understand?

「最後に、報告。
　途中経過も重要ですが、
　失敗したか、成功したかだけでもいいです。
　これは、僕に伝えてください」

　一応リーダーだからな。
　自覚を持っていこう。

"Finally, reporting. Though it's important to give reports while you're doing things as well, just reporting successes or failures is fine. Please tell me about them."

For the time being, I am the leader after all. I'm well aware of this.

「ここまでで質問は？」
「無い、続けてくれ」
「はい！」

　ルイジェルドが首を振り、エリスが手を上げた。

"Do you have any questions so far?"

"No. Please continue."

"Yes!"

Ruijeld shakes his head, and Eris raises her hand.

「はい、エリス」
「三人で相談はするけど、ルーデウスが決めるのよね？」
「まあ、最終的には、そうなりますね」
「じゃあ、最初からルーデウスが全部決めればいいんじゃないの？」
「僕ひとりじゃ考えられる範囲に限界があります」
「でも、私じゃルーデウスの考えなかった事なんて思いつけないわ！」

　そう言ってもらえるのはありがたいが、
　ハッキリ言わせてもらうと、
　俺だって安心が欲しいのだ。
　相談して、大丈夫よ、あなたなら出来るわ、と言ってもらいたいのだ。

"Eris."

"The three of us will be discussing things, but you'll be the one deciding in the end, right, Rudeus?"

"Well, at the end, I guess that's how it'll turn out."

"Then, wouldn't it be fine to let you decide everything from the start, Rudeus?"

"I have limits to the amount of things I can consider by myself."

"But, if it's an idea that you hadn't thought of, there's no way that I'd think of it!"

Thanks for saying that, but to be frank, even I want some peace of mind.

I want to discuss things, and hear 'it'll be fine', or 'you can do it'.

「思いつけなくても、エリスの言葉がヒントになって、
　何かいい考えが浮かぶかもしれませんからね」
「そうかしら……」

　エリスはよくわかっていないという顔だ。
　まあ、最初のうちはしょうがないだろう。
　頭を使うのが重要なのだ。

"Even if you can't come up with an idea, I might come up with an idea after hearing your words, Eris."

"I wonder about that..."

It looks like Eris doesn't really understand. Well, I suppose that can't be helped at first. It's important to use your head.

「さて、とりあえず、今後の事について決めていきたいと思います」

　今後の事。
　十分な準備は出来なかったが、旅は始まった。
　行き当たりばったりになるが、やっていくしかない。

"Now then, first of all, I'd like us to decide on what we'll do from now on."

Though we hadn't prepared enough, our journey has already started. Though things will be unplanned, we'll just have to get by somehow.

「まず、目的地ですが……。
　当然、最終目的地はアスラ王国になります。
　中央大陸西部です。これはいいですね」

　二人は頷く。

　しかし魔大陸から中央大陸には渡れない。
　航路が無いからだ。
　この世界では、海は海族が支配している。
　決められた航路以外は通れない。

"To start with, it's about our destination but... of course our final destination is the Kingdom of Asla. It's the Central Continent. That's fine with everyone, right?"

The two of them nod.

Still, we can't cross over to the Central Continent from the Magic Continent. There's no sea route after all. In this world, the seas are ruled by the Ocean Race. Besides agreed sea routes, there's no other way.

「ルイジェルドさん、ミリス大陸には、どこから渡れますか？」
「魔大陸最南端の港町、ウェンポートから船が出ている」

　ゆえに中央大陸に行きたければ、
　魔大陸の南端→ミリス大陸。
　ミリス大陸を縦断。
　ミリス大陸の西端→中央大陸の東南端。
　というルートを通る必要がある。

"Ruijeld-san, where would we cross over to the Miris Continent?"

"Boats leave from a port city named Wenport, in the southernmost reaches of the Magic Continent."

Therefore, if we want to go to the Central Continent...


Southern tip of Magic Continent → Miris Continent
Travel straight across the Miris Continent
Western edge of Miris Continent → South-western side of Central Continent


That's the route we'll have to take.

　もっとも、裏ワザのようなルートもある。

　魔大陸の北西から、天大陸へと渡る道だ。
　このルートを通れば、ミリス大陸を経由しなくとも中央大陸に至れる。
　中央大陸に至りたいだけなら、理論上は数ヶ月は短縮できる。

　もっとも、口で言うほど容易くはない。
　天大陸は断崖絶壁の上にある大陸である。
　翼でもなければ上に上がることは出来ない。
　岸壁を伝っていかなければならないのだ。
　足場は無く、道はなく、魔物も大量にいる。
　致死率９５％とか言われている過酷なルートだ。

Though there's also a trickier route we can take.

From the north-western parts of the Magic Continent, travel to the Heaven Continent. If we take this route, we can reach the Central Continent even without going through the Miris Continent. If we just wanted to reach the Central Continent, in theory this would cut down a few months of travel.

Of course, it's easier said than done. The Heaven Continent is a continent that sits above steep cliffs. Without wings, we can't get there. 　実際には、もっと時間がかかるだろう。

　結果として旅程日数にそれほど差が出るわけでもなく、
　わざわざ危険を犯す必要はない。
　というわけで、俺たちが向かう先は、南だ。

　探せばどこかに残っているかもしれんが、使うのは難しいだろう」

"I've heard that in the 2nd Human-Magic Great War, it was classified as a forbidden art. If we rely on it, we might end up stranded somewhere, but even using it should be quite difficult."

「結局、地面を歩いて移動するしかないってことですか？」
「そうだな」

　高速で移動する手段は無いらしい。
　半年も移動し続ける……うーむ。

　いや、半年、移動しつづけると考えるからいけないのだ。
　少しずつ移動する。
　町から町へ。
　そう考えればいい。
　千里の道も一歩から、ってやつだ。

　ルイジェルド曰く、
　昔は種族毎に集落を作り、
　彼らの情報交換、物々交換の場として、町がある。
　そんな感じだったらしい。

　ゆえに、小さい町というものは存在せず、
　各種族の戦士たちが寄り集まる冒険者ギルドも、当然のように存在する。

　もっとも、昔は冒険者ギルドは無かったらしい。
　町を守るのは、各種族から代表して選ばれた戦士たちだ。

According to Ruijeld, towns were villages in the past where the various clans would meet together to trade goods and information. Or something like that.

　どおりで、魔族は雑多な種族が多いわけだ。

　そこに一週間から二週間ほど滞在。
　冒険者資格が剥奪されていなければ、
　冒険者としての依頼を受けつつ、
　『デッドエンド』の名前を売っていく。
　基本的に、悪いことはしない。
　そして、次の町までの旅費がたまり次第、町を出立する。

There, we would stay for about a week or two. If we still have our adventurer's qualifications then we'd undertake requests whilst selling the name 『Dead End』. Essentially we wouldn't do anything bad. And then, upon gathering enough travel expenses in that town, we'd leave.

「というのが、一連の流れですが、
　何か質問、あるいは意見はありますか？」

　ルイジェルドが挙手。

"Though we've gone from one thing to another, are there any questions, or possibly any opinions that you'd like to state?"

Ruijeld raises his hand.

「別に、俺の名前は売らなくてもいいんだぞ。
　そのために髪も切った。今の俺は、スペルド族ではない」
「ま、名前を売るのは依頼のついでですよ、ついで」

"There's no particular need to sell my name. I cut my hair for that reason. Right now I'm not a Supeld."

"Well, we'd just be doing that whilst taking requests you see. On the side, you see."

　ヴェスケルたちの働きでわかった。
　特別なことをする必要はないのだ。
　誠心誠意仕事をして。
　うまくいけば、『デッドエンドのルイジェルド』と名乗る。

　ダメなら、ルーデウスと名乗る、それだけだ。
　次から、『デッドエンド』の汚名は、俺が被るのだ。

Nobody recognised Ruijeld as a Supeld. It's probably because he went as far as shaving his head. It seems that on the magic continent they don't have a developed hair styling culture. Each clan probably treats their characteristics with value.

　門番には快く迎えいれてもらえた。
The gatekeeper cheerily welcomed us in.

　ルイジェルドの見た目は茶坊主というか、
　どう見てもマフィアか右翼にしか見えないのだが、
　町中にはもっと物騒な顔をした奴らもいるからだろう。
No matter how you looked at it, Ruijeld looked like a mafioso, or a right-winged extremist, but the gatekeeper looked at him with sycophantic eyes. It probably means that this town already has quite a few dangerous looking guys inside.

「ウェルカム、マイタウン！」
"Welcome to my town!"

　やはり、冒険者らしい格好をしていると違うらしい。
　本当によくきたと歓迎された。
　前に来た時は、明らかに貴族っぽい格好をしていたからな。
　かなり怪しかった。
　ルイジェルドも、こんな快く迎えられたのは初めてだと嬉しそうに言った。
As I thought, the way adventurers are treated seems to be different. We were really quite welcomed. Last time since we plainly wore noble's clothes, we were really suspicious. For Ruijeld as well, it was the first time being so cheerfully and happily welcome.

　パーティ名が『デッドエンド』であるとギルドにいうと、
　周囲から「大丈夫か？」なんて疑問が飛んでくる。
When we went to the guild and told them our party name, the people in the surroundings all wondered if it was okay.

　本物なので大丈夫というと、大抵は笑い声が上がった。
　この方法は相変わらず有効らしい。
　知らない場所でも簡単に受け入れられる。
　デッドエンドという存在のネームバリューには頭が下がる。
If we said that it was okay because we were the real thing, mostly they would laugh. This kind of method seems effectively as usual. We'd be simply welcomed even at places that didn't know of us. The name Dead End was greatly admired.

　宿に泊まれば作戦会議だ。
　今回の議題は、エリスからだった。
　「洗濯中にルーデウスが私のパンツの匂いを嗅いでいる、やめてほしい」。
　わりと真顔で言われた。
　俺はエリスのパンツに触ることを禁止された。

When we stayed at hotels, we'd have strategy meetings. This time, the topic was brought up by Eris.

"When Rudeus does the laundry, he sniffs my panties. I want this to stop."

she said, with a relatively serious expression.

I was forbidden from touching her panties.

　しかし、そうなると洗濯ができるのはルイジェルドだけとなる。
　こんな子供と見れば頭を撫でずにはいられないようなロリコン野郎に可愛いエリスのパンツを渡す訳にはいかない。
　というわけで、
　エリスに洗濯を覚えてもらった。
　本日から、洗濯はエリスの担当である。

But like that, Ruijeld became the only one able to do the laundry. There's no way that I would hand over cute Eris' panties to that lolicon bastard who can't ever help himself from patting children on the head.

And so because of that, Eris learned to do the laundry. From today onwards, laundry would be Eris' job.

　調子にのって、グラマラスな女冒険者にスリーサイズを聞こうとしたら、エリスにマウントを取られた。
　この世界には、タップという概念が無い。
　死ぬかと思った。

Information gathering was easy as well. By making use of the adventurer's guild, we could learn most things. I'd just act like a child and ask other adventurers questions. Geez, it was really simple. I was told so many things that I thought it'd be good to stay a child forever. Getting carried away, I had asked some glamourous looking female adventurers for their three sizes and was promptly taken in a mount position by Eris.

It seems this world doesn't have the concept of tapping out.

I thought I was going to die.

　ある日を境に、エリスは魔神語を習いだした。
　ロキシーの教科書が無いので詳しいことは教えられないが、

One day Eris started to learn the Magic Race language. Without Roxy's dictionary, I couldn't teach in detail, but with Ruijeld and I teaching her, she immediately started to remember.

　アスラ王国にいた頃は読み書きなんてちっとも覚えられなかったのに。
　やはり、環境は人を変えるようだ。

Even though during our time in the Kingdom of Asla, she'd never remember anything at all... It seems that a person's surroundings can really change them.

　自分だけ会話が通じないと、ストレスも半端ないしな。

Being the only one who couldn't hold a conversation must've been considerably stressful, huh?

「はい、できていますよ、お嬢様」

Even if she had decided to learn because it was necessary, it seems that Eris still hates to study.

　そして、彼女は俺に魔神語を教わりつつ、

　最初の頃は、俺もそれに参加していた。

After that, while she was taught the Magic Race language by me, she continued to learn to fight with Ruijeld.

At first I had participated as well, but honestly speaking I couldn't follow it.

Ruijeld's teaching style is nothing but wordlessly sparring. In the end we'd just be sent tumbling or we'd find his speartip at our throats.

Then he'd ask,

　何がわかるというのだろうか。
　いや、なんとなくはわかる。
　恐らく、ルイジェルドはこちらの悪い部分を、戦いの中で突いているのだ。
　戦いとは流動的で、動かせる部分は多い。
　だからこそ、口ではなく、実際にやっているのだ。
　けど、だからといって、理解できるものではない。
　それがわかるのなら、俺はもっと強くなっていたはずだ。

　多分、エリスは天才だ。
　事、戦いに関しては、俺の及ばない所にいる。
　正直な所、俺はルイジェルドの戦いの理論がチンプンカンプンだった。
　だが、エリスにはわかる。
　わかったわ、というのは口だけじゃないのだ。
　彼女は何かを理解している。
　そして、事実、エリスは強くなっている。
　彼女の戦闘力は飛躍的に向上している。

I have no idea what it is that you get. No, actually I sort of do.

It's probably that Ruijeld points out our openings or flaws by targeting them during combat. There are a lot of continuous movements when fighting. That's why instead of using his mouth to tell us, he shows us in reality. Had I been able to understand what he was trying to say like that, I'd have gotten a lot stronger.

Eris is probably a genius.

If it's combat, she's reached a place that I can't. Honestly, I can't understand Ruijeld's battle theories/logic at all. But Eris understands it. And she isn't just saying it. Her battle strength is rapidly increasing.

　まだまだギレーヌには及ばないだろうが、
　もしかすると、パウロはそろそろ超えているかもしれない。
　……もしかすると、魔術を使った俺より強いんじゃないだろうか。

Though she still can't reach Girenu's level yet, perhaps she'll surpass Paul soon.

　俺も、色々考えないといけない。
　エリスが成長しているのに、俺が今のままでは、立つ瀬がない。

　なんとかして、強くなりたい。
　そう思い、エリスの目を盗んで、ルイジェルドに本気で挑んでみたことがある。
　本気といっても、パウロを想定していた時のような、接近戦での戦い方でだが……。

　結論から言うと、負けた。
　完敗だった。
　ルイジェルドには、俺の考えてきた接近戦用の魔術が、何一つ通じなかった。

I need to consider a lot of things. Since Eris is continue to grow, I'll lose face at this rate.

Somehow or other, I want to become stronger.

Thinking this, I had challenged Ruijeld to a fight behind Eris' back. I had tried the things I had come up with for close quarters battles with Paul but...

Starting with the result, I lost.

It was my complete defeat.

None of the magic I had come up with for close quarters combat had hit Ruijeld at all.

「悪くはない。お前は魔術師としては完成の域にある」

　負けたはずなのに、そう言われた。
　昔、ギレーヌにも似たようなことを言われた気がする。

"You're not bad. As a magician, you're already perfect."

Though I had lost, he said that to me.

I think in the past, Girenu had something something like that too.

「だが、考え方は良くない。
　俺に接近戦で勝とうとする必要はない」

　近すぎるのだ、と言われた。
　相手の土俵に上がるから苦戦するのだ、と。
　そんなことはわかっている。
　でも、だからといって、いつも遠距離から戦いを始められるとは限らない。

"But your way of thinking is no good. There's no need to try and win against me in close quarters combat."

I was told that I was too close. That I was struggling because I was in his playing field.

I understand that. But it's because of that, that I don't want to be limited to always fighting from afar.

「じゃあ、どうすればいいんですか？」
「さてな。俺も魔術は専門外だからな……。
　魔術を交えての接近戦といえば、龍族が得意としているらしいが、
　俺はペルギウスの戦いを少しだけ見たことがあるだけだ、参考にはならん」
「ペルギウスって、あの空中城塞の人ですよね？
　どんな戦い方だったんですか？」
「ああ、ヤツは前龍門と後龍門を召喚し、自分は魔力爪を使って戦っていた」

　召喚。
　召喚魔術は知らないんだよな……。

"Then, what should I do?"

"Hmm. This is outside my field of expertise as well, after all... Speaking of combining magic and close quarters fighting, it seems to be the Dragon Race's specialty. I'd only seen Perugius fight a little though, so I can't use it as a reference."

"Perugius, as in the person in the flying castle? What kind of fighting style was it?"

"Ahh, that guy would summon a dragon gate at the front, and a dragon gate at the rear, and as for himself, he'd fight using a mana claw."

I don't know summoning magic though.

「その、前龍門と後龍門というのは、どういう召喚魔術なんですか？」
「詳しくは知らんが、前龍門は相手の魔力を常に吸収し、
　後龍門は吸収した魔力を自分のものにする、という感じだった」

　ゆえに、ペルギウス相手には長期戦になればなるほど不利になる。
　ラプラスは圧倒的な魔力総量を誇ったがゆえに、あまり効果が無かったらしいが……。
　並の戦士なら、五分もたたない内に体中の魔力を吸収されて気絶するらしい。

"What kind of summons were those front and rear dragon gates?"

"I don't know the details, but it seems that the front dragon gate would continuously absorb mana from the enemy, and the rear dragon gate would make that mana his own."

In other words, the longer someone fought Perugius, the more of a disadvantage they'd have. Since Laplace boasted an incredible amount of mana, it doesn't seem like it'd be very effective but... an average warrior would probably faint after just having half his mana taken.

「卑怯な戦い方ですね」
「…………そうか？」

　ルイジェルドなら、それを卑怯だと言うかと思ったが、そうでもないらしい。
　やはり、宿敵ラプラスに一矢報いた仲間意識でもあるのだろうか。

"That's quite the cowardly fighting style, isn't it?"

"...Is that so?"

Since it's Ruijeld, I thought he would agree, but that isn't the case. As expected, it feels a bit like when he killed his archenemy Laplace with a single arrow.

「そう焦るな。お前の年齢を考えれば、本格的に強くなれるのはこれからだ」

　最終的に、ルイジェルドはそう言って、俺の頭を撫でた。
　戦士として見てはくれているようだが、ルイジェルドは俺の頭を撫でる。
　単純に、子供の頭を撫でるのが好きなのだ、この男は。

　しかし、でも、どうすれば強くなれるんだろうか……。

"Don't be so impatient. Considering your age, your real growth is still to come."
[lit. considering your age, you'll grow truly strong from here on out]

In the end, Ruijeld had said that and patted my head.

Though it seems that he sees me as a warrior, Ruijeld patted my head.

This man just simply likes to pat children on the head.

A guy appeared and challenged Ruijeld to a duel.

「我こそは北神カールマンが直弟子『孔雀剣のオーベール』！
　の、三番弟子のロドリゲス！」

　最初は賞金稼ぎかと思った。
　知らん間にルイジェルドに賞金が掛けられたのかと思った。

"I am the North God Style's Carlman's direct disciple 'Peafowl Sword Orbel'!
..'s third disciple, Rodrigeuz!"

At first I had thought it was a bounty hunter. At some point a bounty had been sent out for Ruijeld, I had thought.

「その物腰、さぞ名のある御仁とお見受けした！
　立ち合いを所望したい！」

　しかし、どうやら違うらしい。
　彼は武者修行のために魔大陸を旅しているのだとか。

"With that bearing, you seem to be be quite a famous person! I wish to have a match with you!"

However, that seemed to be wrong. To improve his combat skills, he became a travelling warrior and came to the magic continent.

「ルイジェルドさん、どうします？」
「こういう手合いは久しぶりだな」

　ルイジェルド曰く、魔大陸には武者修行者も多いらしい。
　魔大陸は魔物も強く、
　その魔物を退治する冒険者たちも強い。
　修行しようなんて考えている輩にはうってつけの場所なのだとか。
　意味もなく強くなってどうすんだろうな。

"Ruijeld-san, what should we do?"

"It's been a while since I've been challenged to this kind of match."

According to Ruijeld, these kind of travelling warriors were common on the Magic Continent. The Magic Continent had a lot of strong monsters, and so there were a lot of strong warriors who eliminated them. For the types of people who thought to train themselves through travelling, this was the ideal place. Though I wonder if there's any point in becoming strong for its own sake.

「俺はうけてもいいが、どうすればいい？」
「僕は断ってもいいと思いますけど、どうしたいです？」
「俺は戦士だ。手合わせしたいというのなら、相手をしたい」

　受けたいなら最初からそう言えよ。
　ということで。
　ルールを決めることにした。

"I'm fine with accepting, but what should I do?"

"Though I'd like to reject him, what do you want to do?"

"I'm a warrior. If he wants to have a match with me, then I want to accept."

If you want to accept, then say that from the beginning.

Anyway, the rules were decided.

１．殺し合いは無し、止めは刺さないこと
２．こちら(ルイジェルド)が名乗るのは、勝負の後であること
３．勝っても負けても禍根を残さないこと

１．So as to not kill each other, they would stop their attack just in time.
２．Ruijeld's name would only be given after the match.
３．Win or lose, there'd be no hard feelings after the match.

　相手は快く承諾してくれた。

He readily accepted.

　そして、ルイジェルドは勝った。
　相手の全力を受けきるような動きで、勝った。
　手加減をしている、という感じではない。
　ただ、ローリスクに動き、相手の動きを完全に制したのだ。

And then Ruijeld won. Without being hit by any of the opponent's moves, he won. He didn't seem to hold back at all. He simply played it safe, and completed bested the opponent's moves.

「完敗だ。こんな強い者がいるとは……世界はまだまだ広いな！
　で、名前はなんと言うのだ？」
「ルイジェルド・スペルディアだ。『デッドエンド』と呼ばれている」
「なに、あの『デッドエンド』か！？
　魔大陸で何度も噂を聞いたぞ。
　恐ろしいスペルド族の男がいるとな！」

"It was my complete loss. To think that such a strong person existed... the world sure is huge, huh! And so, what's your name?"

"Ruijeld Supeldia. They call me 『Dead End』."

"What, THAT 『Dead end』!? I've heard of you again and again on the Magic Continent. That there was a man of the terrifying Supeld clan!"

　戦いが終わると、彼は驚いた。

　意外と、人族はスペルド族の特徴を知らない。
　スペルド族が槍を使っているだとか、
　額に赤い宝石があるだとか、
　そういう事を知らない者が多い。

　人族の常識では、スペルド族の特徴は髪がエメラルドグリーンって部分だけなのだ。

　エメラルドグリーンの髪。
　戦争から４００年も経った今では、ただそれだけが迫害の理由なのだ。
　髪が緑なだけでイジメられる、俺には到底理解できない。

After the match, he was surprised.

Unexpectedly, the Human Race doesn't seem to know much about the characteristics of the Supeld clan. Whether it was that they used spears or they had a red gem on their forehead, lots of people didn't know.

common knowledge only stated that they had emerald green hair.

Emerald green hair. 400 years after the war, the cause for persecution was just that. I definitely couldn't understand bullying people just because their hair was green.

「しかし髪がないようだが？」
「故あって、剃った」
「り、理由は聞かない方がよさそうだな……」

　明らかに強い相手、
　恐怖の象徴スペルド族、
　中でも最も凶悪とされる人物。

　恐れて当然の相手だ。

　しかし、やはり、武人同士。
　何か通じるものがあるらしい。
　強さを基準で生きる人々にとって、
　ルイジェルドは尊敬に値する人物なのだ。

"However, you don't seem to have any hair though?"

"There were circumstances, so I cut it."

"I-, it seems better not to ask for the reason, huh?"

Even amongst the clearly powerful, dreaded Supeld clan was a person who was especially fiendish.

An enemy you'd naturally be afraid of.

However, as expected he was a fellow warrior. It seemed like they had come to some kind of understanding. To a person who lived with strength as a criteria for judging others, Ruijeld was a person worthy or respect.

「まさか、歴史上の人物と手合わせしてもらえるとは……！
　これは故郷で自慢できるな！」

　大抵の相手は、嬉しそうにしていた。
　まるで、道端でハリウッドスターにでも会ったかのような、
　しかも、気難しいと思われていたそのスターが、
　意外とフレンドリーだった時のような、
　そんな喜び方だった。

"To think that I'd be able to have a match with a man who appeared in history...! This is definitely something I can boast about when I return home!"

Most of his opponents seemed delighted. It was as though on the roadside they'd come across a Hollywood Star, and moreover a star who seemed irritable and hard to please, but turned out to be unexpectedly friendly. It was that kind of delight.

「我こそは――――」

"It's good to meet you." [a lot of this is cut-off, so unsure. ware koso wa---- / it's me [as opposed to you,] that----]
[it might be like, 'the honour is mine'???]

　そいつを皮切りに、ルイジェルドは挑まれ続けた。
　南に行けば行くほど、そういう手合いが増えた。

These kind of guys continued to show up and challenge Ruijeld. As we got further south, they appeared more and more frequently.

　武者修行者の中には学のあるやつもいて、
　ルイジェルドが４００年前の戦争時のスペルド族の戦士団。
　そのリーダーと同じ名前だと指摘する者もいた。

Among these travelling warriors were also some learned people, and pointed out that he had the same name as the leader of the Supeld during the war 400 years ago.

　同一人物だと言うと、大層驚いていた。
　その人物には、ルイジェルドの戦争話が一昼夜を掛けて語られる事となった。
　ルイジェルドおじいちゃんの昔話は長いが、
　誇張なしで語られるその実話は、武人にとって興奮するものであるらしい。
　特に、１０００人の包囲を抜け、長い時間潜伏し、ラプラスに一矢報いるくだりには、武人も男泣きに涙を流した。

When we said that he was one and the same, they were all very surprised. It would end up as a conversation about how Ruijeld had during the war, fought for days and nights. Like a grandfather, Ruijeld would tell long stories, recounting without exaggerating. It was something that was very exciting for warriors. In particular, the story of how he broke through the 1000 man siege, waiting a long time in hiding, and killed Laplace, would have the warriors crying manly tears.

　この話を本にして流通させれば、案外スペルド族の見方も変わるかもしれない。
　『実録！　正義なき戦い　魔大陸死闘篇！』
　とか、
　『誰も知らない歴史の真実　スペルド族編』
　とか、そんな感じで。

This story might spread from the source and unexpectedly change the way the Supeld clan is viewed.

Like 『True Story! A Battle of Injustice - Anthology of Magic Continent Life or Deaths Struggles』

or 『The History That Nobody Knew - A Supeld Clan Anthology』

Something like that.

　土魔術を使えば印刷は出来るからな。
　さらに、俺は４ヶ大陸語を扱える。
　ま、国の法律に抵触して捕まる可能性もあるが……。
　頭の片隅には置いておく事にしよう。

If I use earth magic, I should be able to make printing possible. Furthermore, I can do so in the language of 4 different continents. Well, there's also the possibility that it'll be against the law and I'll get caught. Let's just put it away in the corner of my mind for now.

「じゃあな、ありがとう！　勉強になった」

　武者修行者たちは、誰もが嬉しそうに別れた。
　喧嘩別れをすることは一切なかった。
　それもこれも、みんな髪を剃ったおかげだろう。

　もう、スペルド族は全員スキンヘッドにすればいいんじゃないかな？

"Bye now, and thanks! I learned a lot."

Saying so happily, the travelling warriors would all part with us. There was not even a single case of quarreling and then going our separate wars. All of it was probably possible due to Ruijeld's shaved head.

Geez, wouldn't it be fine then if the members of the Supeld clan just became skinheads then?

　俺たちは旅をする。

Like that, we'd travel south.

　もちろん、順調なだけじゃない。
　問題は何度も起きた。
　言葉を理解したことで、嘲笑にブチ切れたエリスが喧嘩することもあった。
　ルイジェルドがスペルド族だとバレて、追い出される事もあった。
　また、俺がエリスの水浴びを覗こうとして、ルイジェルドに首根っこを掴まれて引き戻される事も多々あった。

Of course it wasn't all smooth sailing. Problems came up again and again.

After understanding the language, there were times where Eris would become enraged after being sneered at and fought. There were also times where Ruijeld was revealed as a Supeld and chased out. Also, there were times when I'd be caught trying to peek at Eris in the bath, and then be carried away by the scruff of the neck by Ruijeld.

　似たような問題は何度も起きた。
　最初の頃は、問題が起きるたびにヤキモキしたものだ。

These problems occurred again and again. At first, I'd be greatly worried.

　直さなきゃ、どうにかしなきゃ、と思った。

About how to solve it, or about how I had to do something.

　けれど、考えてみれば、だ。
　エリスは喧嘩をする時には絶対に剣を抜かなかった。
　ルイジェルドも、追い出される時は最初の時のような騒乱は起きなかった。
　町で仲良くなった衛兵から「すまんな、スペルド族だと、やっぱり怖がるヤツがいるからな」と申し訳無さそうに言われることもあった。
　そして俺は、結局一回もエリスの水浴びを覗くことは出来なかった。

But thinking about it...

Though Eris had quarreled, she had never drawn her sword.

Though Ruijeld was chased out of town, sometimes the guards who we became friendly with, would look apologetic and say "Sorry. There are people who are afraid of the Supeld clan after all."

As for me, in the end I never managed to peek at Eris.

　どれも小さな問題だった。
　大問題には発展していない。
　だからか、そのうち気にしなくなった。

All of them were just small problems. We didn't come across any big ones. that might be why before long, I didn't mind it.

　エリスは乱暴者だし、
　ルイジェルドはスペルド族だし、
　俺はスケベだ。

　生まれた時からそうだったのだ、
　いまさら直そうと思ったって、直るもんじゃない。

Eris is a hooligan, Ruijeld is a Supeld, and I'm a pervert.

We've been so since birth, and there's nothing that can be changed at this point.

　ま、やれることはやっているのだ。
　失敗しても後からフォローすればいい。
　気楽にいこう、気楽に。
　途中からは、そう思えるようになっていった。

Well, we'll do what we can. If we fail, then we can just mend things later.

We'd just relaxedly continue onwards. That's what we were thinking during our travels.

　決して、失敗を軽くみているつもりはない。
　ただ、肩の力を抜くという、
　当たり前のことを実践できるようになっただけだ。

Of course, there's no way that we'd treat our failures lightly.

It's just that we naturally became relaxed like that.

Since we had started our journey, roughly a year had passed.

We had become A ranked adventurers.


　そして、魔大陸最南端。
　港町ウェンポートへとたどり着いた。

And we had reached the southern tip of the Magic Continent.

We'd finally reached the port city Wenport.
